Title: Embarrassing music?
Post by: Blushes on August 22, 2014, 05:03:16 PM
What's the most embarrassing song on your ipod? Maybe a song you can't live out? A song from your childhood?

Mine is currently the entire Wicked Soundtrack, a few songs from three days grace (from my punk stage in 6th grade), Monster by Skillet, and finally Shoot it Out by 10Years. All favorites from 6th-7th grade.

They sit awkwardly between Thrift Shop and Katy Perry.  I don't know what it is that keeps dragging me back to them, but I just love  the fast beat of the "angry/dark" music and the different instruments of the Wicked soundtrack. I'm such a nerd.

I think probably the "12 days of Christmas" by Jim Henson's Muppets.  It's is in my Christmas list, but once in a while when i mix all songs, it might come up and it's always a bit of a shock to hear Beaker or Ms. Piggie when I'm not expecting them ...

I don't really get embarrassed by things I like so.....I don't really have any? Unless you count a couple of country songs that were dedicated to me by some ex-boyfriends that I never actually listen to. Mostly because I hate country.

I remember being embarrassed to ask the assistant where I might find Kelly Clarkson's latest CD.

I have the Japanese version of FiM Smile song and I sometimes embarrass myself humming and grinning widely when it plays. Other than that, I don't get embarrassed by music :)

Wicked is nothing to be embarrassed about :P I often have this sound track blasting from my car as I sing along at the top of my lungs...pulling into the the work car park!

I listen to a lot of country - in the US thats cool. Over here its not :P I am not embarrassed by them but I can imagine some people may be.

For me it's not that much songs by themselves, but their names (and their artist's names; ah Japan). The one I definitely wouldn't want for anyone to see is Masculine Devil by Goatbed  Or any Goatbed song, if they are looking at the lyrics...

I suppose Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past soundtracks along with Backyardigans music might be considered embarrassing. However, I don't want to waste any energy being embarrassed by it. I like what I like, and music can promote such a sense of well being.

Perhaps the fact that I have classical music in there too balances it out. :P

Easily a third of the music on my iPod is fandom music (mainly MLP, but). Also, I've yet to finish completely clearing out all the Evanescence and 3 Days Grace from my angsty teen days.

Yeahhhh I got over being embarrassed by music a long time ago.  If the song was recorded and commercially available, others have listened to it a lot so there's no need for me to feel like I'm the only one who likes it!  :)  Although there are definitely songs I like that people would NEVER expect me to!

I don't consider many of your songs embarrassing, hun <3  It sounds like you concider them that because you liked them when you were in grade school.  I could say the same with the Backstreet boys or Hanson (though they bring back memories, they aren't on any of my playlists nor have I heard any of their songs in a long while).

Give it time, youll see.  It wont matter to you anymore what others think of the music you still listen to.

I do get annoyed when people go past the 'I don't like ____' and actually bash them in without realizing that there could be others that do, though.  Notably Nickelback but there are others.

Considering I have a playlist three days long of just broadway showtunes and Wicked's on there, I'm cool with this.

Not really embarrassed by it, but I got a ton of Disney music including the Disney Eurobeat collection from Dance Dance Revolution.

That sounds AWESOME. I must look that up now. I love eurobeat music, and well, anything with a beat.

Tokio Hotel. My BFF got me into them four years ago and I still like the band. Even though their are a boy band. Which is so far from my typical country, classic rock, or world music. I do prefer their songs in German to the ones in English.

I tend to keep the fact that I know of the band and like their music to myself. But now all of you know. :P

Durch den Monsun~

Ahem. Yeah, not embarrassing, don't worry :) I used to like them, even if only for the fact they sung in German and I'm weak against German songs. It was years ago though and that's the only song I vaguely remember.

Hmmm. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Broken Doll sound a little weird sandwiched between Otep, FFDP, In This Moment, and Marilyn Manson.
But hey, that's how I roll. \m/

Goodness, you shouldn't be embarrassed about Vocoloid music at all ^^

Besides, they are growing in popularity (ok, exploding!) in NA.  To the point where the organizers for Miku were stunned by the sheer number of fans.

Its not just Japan anymore :)

Eh, I've just grown so adjusted to actual singing voices from ponies now that vocaloid sounds so robotic to me now ._. Plus it brings back bad memories DX

The entirety of The Lion King soundtrack.

Yes, that trumps all of the cheesy 80's synthpop and late 90's-early 00's girly pop I have on my phone.

It's either Salt 'n Pepa's "Push It" or "Char Chokka Hoi Hoi," the theme song for the cricket world cup in Bangladesh earlier this year.  It makes me ridiculously happy.  A selection of lyrics:

"Whole World;
 Jaw dropping... Jaw dropping...
 Blockbuster
 Cup waiting... Cup waiting...
 Stadium shouting,
 Bombastic rocking,
 People are cheering,
 Everybody hearing..."

Excuse me while I grin deliriously.

My playlist of Irish language covers of modern English songs probably counts. I had no problem blasting it in the car with the windows down but I'm still kinda embarrassed to admit I listen to it if I'm talking to someone.

not embarrassing, but i wouldn't let other people listen to it, haha.

I don't get embarrassed about the music on my ipod.  It's mostly metal and broadway with a good dose of alternative 90's nostalgia thrown in. I have most of the songs from MLP on there, so I guess that would qualify, but I don't care.  I have a pony tag and pony stickers on my car, so getting embarassed by the Grand Galloping Gala seems silly, lol.

Me too! I do have an iPhone and I have nothing against digital music, but if I'm going to actually purchase something it's going to be CD, Vinyl, or nothing. Why would I want to pay for digital files that are lower quality than a CD which could be wiped away if anything ever happened to my computer when I can buy a CD, put it in my computer and rip it into a digital file of any quality I want? I do understand and respect that some people like the space saving and convenience of instant downloads, but for me personally I just can't justify paying for something that I can't physically hold in my hand. With CDs you can rip them into digital files yourself, and most current Vinyl releases offer codes that you can redeem online to receive a digital download of the album. To me, CDs and Vinyl are just as collectible as Ponies or any other toy or collectible, while Digital takes away all of the fun out of collecting music.

Anyway, I don't really consider any music to be embarrassing, though I might find some songs to be annoying after awhile. You like what you like, and you can find anything from the Spice Girls to Napalm Death on my iPhone.

Embarrassing music...you mean besides a two hour block of every FiM song from seasons 1-4 and Equestria Girls?

I tend to keep my music to myself. My MP3 player has an...eclectic mix of country, 80s rock, video game soundtracks, Weird Al, Lindsey Stirling, a sprinkling of brony songs, and six Andrea Bocelli cds. (Not his opera albums! I can't stand opera. Nobody believes me when I tell them that albums like Romanza or Passione aren't opera.) Only a few of his songs are in English. Most are in Italian with a few in Spanish, and a few in French. Beats me what he's saying, but I could listen to it aaaaall day. :lovey:

I don't encounter many people who appreciate Bocelli.

how about music i probably SHOULD be embarrassed by but am not? xD
I have ALLLL kinds of music moods, so much so that I can usually listen to just about anything and be content.

but my most public one, is what I listen to in the car, as well as sing out loud too (sometimes more loud then actual singing)... Is current pop music xD, I especially love things by Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, and Sia, because they're just so "singable" haha.

Hooray for several hours of Hanson songs! I have mine with pride too  They are still doing so well for themselves after all these years

Wow, I figured I was the only one with Goofy Movie songs on my ipod! High Five to that!

No shame for me whatsoever! Which is funny cause I'm normally very paranoid about things like that :S

My soundtracks/film/tv section on my ipod gets more attention than my main music. I guess there's something from everyone's childhood. My work mates have a blast when it's late night and I let them play their favourites over the speakers at our shop. Countless tunes from animated movies, shows, cartoons, games. I'm tempted to list but I'll just get carried away, so I'll just note some of the sillier ones:

If I Had Words (Ending credits to Babe with the mice singing)
a compilation of background music heard in Arthur
the New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh opening theme
Building the Crate song from Chicken Run
season 1 theme from Rocko's Modern Life
and many old favourite Sesame Street segments!

I guess having the entire Pokemon: 2.B.A. Master CD on my iPod is the most embarrassing thing I have, not that I'm particularly ashamed of it.

I'd say the real embarrassing music is the Christmas stuff, that I intentionally play on repeat, year round. :lookround:
