I still have a third group to clean! And that will be it with this mistery lot :) I love clean ponies, they look happy.  :satisfied:

Alright, so I have been doing some pony hunting everywhere from flea markets to friends, to sellers recommended by friends, and I was given the email of a seller who claims to have many Mexican ponies in different conditions.

He said he had everything from babies ot adults to "very hard to find ponies"...

He claims to NOT be an expert, but somehow he says the ponies are hard to find.--->How does he know? >_>

I asked him for pics, but he says he doesn't have a camera. I have two friends who have bought other toys from him and they say that is the way he works: he just puts a price on the lot and you get a bunch of stuff that you need to clean and sort out.

Now, he described the ponies and from what he says, I think he has a couple of Medleys, some Baby Blossoms, two Bowties, one Star Pony and what I think is a Posey, because he says it is yellow, has flowers for symbols, and light purple hair...is that possible? A Posey with purple hair?

I don't know if I should believe him or if I should buy his stuff, he seems like a bit of a scammer. What do you guys think? Should I risk getting fakies and ponies with cuts and some Posey fakie? Haha, I have to say I like misteries and I love surprises, and the price is not high, but I dunno...

Thoughts? Advice? Have you ever done this kind of "mystery" shopping?  :lookround: :|

A lot of people know a real MLP when they see one, but don't know about how to clean them, how good their condition is, etc. Most people who say "I'm not an expert" use that sentence just to cover their behinds and keep from having to get too in-depth with a product that may be a secondary sale to them. Maybe they're actually all about Matchbox cars, but they buy the ponies knowing they're fairly easy to sell and he'll make a profit no matter what, however small.
If you have friends who have dealt with him, that's a good sign. I'm assuming you're communicating through email? If you buy with PayPal, you'll be covered under their Buyer Protection program. If you decide to buy through a moneyorder or whatever, you may be on your own. I'd take the risk, myself, since Friends have recommended him, but I'd still be hesitant. Is there a way you two could meet and yoou could see the ponies yourself?
And if it IS a purple haired posey...very cool!

Are you sure it isn't Blossom? Lavender is more prone to discoloring than other body colors and I've seen Blossoms specifically for sale that have turned some pretty funky colors. Not sure if Mexican ponies are any different as far as that goes, but I personally wouldn't get my hopes up. But I do wish you the best of luck with this! I hope you get some nice ponies!

LOL, had not thought of this. It could be a very discolored Blossom.  :P I think I will buy the lot, maybe there are interesting things. He is in another state, so I cannot go see the ponies in person.

I've bought Mexicans from a well known seller in Mexico. He never says the ponyies names, never tries to clean them, doesn't comment on their condition and lets his many pictures do the talking. He also says he isn't an expert...he just buys all kinds of lily Ledy toys and Mexican toys and sells them. I've never been disappointed with his ponies, even if he isn't an expert (he's sold literally hundreds of them, though!)

I just sent him the money via Paypal. Let's hope everything is fine and I receive ponies that aren't just bait.  :P

I recently found out that a Peruvian variant of Posey has purple hair. So that could be it too, I guess.

Good luck!

This is the one I saw while scrolling through yellow ponies. (Picture is from Strawberry Reef.) I'm not sure if her flowers were originally pink and faded or if they're originally white.

There's also a gorgeous Lickety Split with green hair: http://mylittlewiki.org/w/images/1/17/Peru-lickety-split.jpg (Picture is from My Little Wiki)

Hey everybody! I am at my mother's house and just opened the box! I can see:

-Two of the baitiest Baby Blossoms I have ever come across
-One Medley
-One Firefly
-One very bait Skydancer
-One pink pony with star symbols (I think some people call it Twilight, some people call it star pony)
-One Blossom
-Two Applejacks
-One Bowtie
-One Cherries Jubilee
-One Cotton Candy
-One yellow "prince pony" who lacks one of the two metalic jewel symbols
-One Baby Nibbles (or Dibbles? I dunno)
-Two little pony erasers (they look like erasers, one is a pink one and the other one is a yellow unicorn)

And, indeed, a pony that seems to be Posey with light purple hair. She is in very very bad shape (IMO, I am quite picky a collector, tho)

All of them are Mexican, I think, for they have no marks and well, some of them I already have seen in the past. Will post pics as soon as I can get my hands on a camera. And I need to clean and disinfect them!  :P

We shall see how they clean up. Also: how do you restore super tightly braided manes and tails?

Even if they are "bait", there are people who still would want them - especially if they are nirvana's.
Personally, I have a soft spot for sad condition argentina ponies  :lovey:

AJ and Bowtie!! Eeeee!! And I'd LOVE to see the lilac Posey...I'd be interested in her, baity or not! Are you able to take pics at all? And the erasers! I have a HUGE soft spot for pony erasers, MLP or not  congratulations, I'm so glad that they turned out to be what you wanted, even if not in the best condition. I've found Mexis clean up incredibly well, though, even ones that appear to be beyond hope! So excited for you!!

I am debraiding Posey hair at the moment, the braids were tiny and tight. Some of the hair is breaking as I undo the nots and braids.

Posey doesn't have a very full mane or tail and the tail is also sort of breaking. Don't know if I am making myself clear.

Some of the other ponies are very rusty inside and sort of sticky on the outside. How can I make the stickiness go?

I, too, have a soft spot for sad condition ponies. Sometimes I think if I had the money, I would rescue all the baity Mexicans I see at the flea market every Saturday. :(

Hi everyone!

I am in the middle of cleaning ponies and trying to deal with the manes and tails. Most of them are right now soaking in hot water with detergent because they were really gooey and dirty and it grossed me out and I'd rather have them headless and with no tails till they are completely and absolutely dry than having such dirty ponies around!

These are the three I have cleaned so far. Here is an update with three pics! These are their best sides  :P because Posey has highlighter marks over her NDS and the prince does not have the other symbol LOL.

Enjoy! Tell me what you think!

Ahaha, I was noting that with "display"- usually you only see one side. I have a Sweet Pocket who displays mint/near, but she has Sharpie marks hidden from view!

Are you planning to try to sunfade/whatever her or leave her as-is?

She did clean up nicely, but truth be told, my camera doesn't capture the highlight marks very clearly, and they are a bit worse than it shows in the pics.

 haha yeah ok haha she displays fine! I have never sunfaded ponies, how is that done? I have heard about it, but I myself have no experience doing it.
It's fairly simple, but kind of risky. I personally have never done it, but I read up on it a lot because I had some pretty discolored ponies. You'd have to test it first to know if your pony is on the "safe" list- some "tan" or develop cancer everywhere and some overfade.
Basically you cover the pony with the affected area exposed (if you are fading a whole pony, cover only hair/eyes/symbols etc.) and stick it in a window for a month or so (give or take depending on the severity of what is being faded off and the length and intensity of sunshine available). Paper towels under aluminum foil works best, but the foil can get hot and melt hair/etc. if  not properly checked on. Some painter's tape can be used, but some kinds bleed color into the pony. To cover things, a thick layer of white acrylic paint is reported to be okay and easily removed with rubbing alcohol with no damage. I'm skeptical, as a family friend said that she took the symbols off with rubbing alcohol because she didn't like them.  But most people who've used it say it works fine. If it's a full-body fade (even if it's a few marks, the body may be faded to help keep color even), a mirror behind the pony helps. Just rotate and keep an eye on them. To test them before fading, use the bottom of a foot for a month or so. If you feel good about it, then expose the marks and have at it. Good luck if you do try!
To be honest, though, that wouldn't be necessary if they came off with a Magic Eraser. They're make of an abrasive sponge-like glass crystal stuff, and are MIRACLES for cleaning ponies and really anything else. Another alternative is a hydrogen peroxide or Oxiclean soak, but they require breaking any neck seal you've got going on there.
