Title: Ok - so who is this lovely lady?
Post by: Marlin on August 13, 2014, 11:28:52 PM
I've just seen the auction is now closed, so I can post it, right?

Who the heck is she? I was tempted to hit the buy now, wondering if this was some rare prototype or something? I know very little about Argies (hence my hesitation in case I got a very expensive wrong), so excuse my complete ignorance if she isn't something special, but I spent over an hour trying to research her with no results!

So incredibly intrigued!!!

Sadly I am skeptic about her. There was a guy reprinting sparklers symbols on collectors pose ponies so for me all argy sparklers are tainted.

I am never sure about these

As ember1 has said there have been ponies for sale which have had new symbols printed on. I've seen pinwheels used as well.

Love pkw xxx

I agree..the seller offered her to me for a ridiculous price before she was put on ebay....but I think shes a fake for sure....as are a few others like her.

Sorry to say I am also unsure on them. Somewhere along the line I heard a story that symbols were being removed from some ponies and other symbols stencilled on

Oh, wow   How disappointing that this could be a possibility. I feel for the buyer if this is the case.

To me, that seems like a CP Bowtie who got her symbols erased and got new fake Sparkler's symbols...

There seems to be a few ponies that get stenciled on. Sparkler, micro phone and the flutterbye's on the blank white ponies, these seem to be the most common ones that have shown up.

I also think the way so many of these popped up in almost a little blitz for a while points to something just not being quite right. However that being said whether they are a deliberate scam or actual manufacture errors of the time, thats the one thing I dont think we can know for certain. Also, we have seen just about all Argies on card or in box by this time, its odd there are quite so many of these guys floating around and we have never encountered a MOC yet.

Good point, Hathorcat. It always makes me a bit sad to think that people try to cheat others with this sort of thing.

This is really sad :( apart from having knowledge and researching ponies before buying what else can you look for to identify fakes?

Research and keeping track of threads like these :( As depressing as it sounds there are always people trying to work out ways to scam other people be that through transaction or a made up pony. I am always a little in two minds on these ponies. We dont know that they are not simply factory errors, tests or something manufacturers were doing after they lost the Hasbro license. We are just very very suspicious that there is more to them. Over the last few years I have seen people pay a lot of money for G4 ponies which are both factory mistakes our outright "creations" of resellers (i.e. one ponies head on another ponies body). So for some people these do still hold value and I think thats fair enough.

If I remember correctly, any time you see an 'unknown' argie with a symbol in that color or in a dark blue, all done in one color and no symbol wear, it's probably been given new symbols.

I'm remember that guy reprinting sparklers symbol rumor, but was it found out to be actually true?! How did we find out?

Unless someone gets first hand knowledge (e.g. knows the person(s) involved and what they've done, or had one as a childhood pony), we can't know for sure, however I also hold with hathorcat's comments about MOC Argies - there have been SO many MOC/MIB Argies over the years, especially during the glut years, that you would think that at least one would have shown up in packaging, and they haven't. Plus they are usually on body/hair combos that already exist as cheaper Argie ponies
