So let's see how this works. I'll go first to help break the ice.

First up:
My most recent custom, flame kissed Moondancer. I am not entirely happy with her. Is it the pony itself or is it a rut?

Hmm. Well, compared to some of your other flame kissed ponies I feel like the rainbow effect on this one is a lot more vibrant/pronounced. It's beautifully done - but I think maybe if if were a little bit more subtle that would look good - especially with a pony who is as clean looking as moondancer.
Also (and this part is totally personal preference - there's nothing wrong with the way it is now) maybe the hair could use an extra piece or two? Maybe a piece that falls over her face a bit?

Hmm. Well Moondancer is my favorite pony, so I automatically like this. I think I agree with NoD on the rainbow effect. I love it, but I think for a pony like Moondancer, maybe a bit more subtle would be better. I love the hair as it is. I think maybe in the future you could try making the moon more sharp, less rounded. I love the moon on the left side. The one on the right side is the one that looks kind of roundy.
I'm not sure if that helps or not, but I love that you posted this thread. It's good practice to give constructive criticism and to receive it as well. :)

Nichi- the only critique I would have is the curl in the front. Otherwise it's a pretty pony!

I'd like to see the blonde color that's in the tail more in the mane too. That might be my preference. Agree with Karin on that one pesky curl. That location makes it draw so much more attention than the other ringlets! Do like the color scheme though!

Colorscapesart: i don´t know...rivets in the hair? and as ND told adding a piece in the hair, she is great.

CSA: I agree about adding a forelock to her mane. But she is very pretty indeed!
Nichi: I think the you need to add a contrasting color somewhere on her, they eyes is a good suggestion and easy too. She is very cute, I love the Sundae bests. :)

Maybe she would look a little more unified if the pumpkin color matched her hair color more? It is a great hair color for a halloween pony.

Yes, that sounds good. I left her hair long so I could even reuse that hair for another custom.

Curls! You do wonderful straw curls LadySatine and I think the straw curls would look perfect on her and suit her over all design well.

I'd like to see a hint of pink or black in her hair. It's pretty, but doesn't pop or tie together for me. I think the symbol is great though!

Hm. I would suggest maybe adding some hilight or shadow to the pumpkins to make them a bit more dimensional. I think because of the spiderwebs it took my brain a moment to register that it was a pumpkin. The shape is great, but I think a touch of dimension would make them really jump out :)

I kinda agree with what's been said
CSA - I also think a forlock might help (I partially blame the pose - it's a difficult one to work with). I also think the left symbol looks better and sharper than the right side. maybe some of it is the spacing? Also, the left side and horn seem to have taken the black wash better than the right side. So...just tweaks? I do love the hair shapes on her :)
Nichi - the tail seems to have more of a light color than the mane (I loooove the mane's blend!). The front curl didn't turn out as perfects the others (I know from experience how frustrating that is and how you may not know till you take the curlers out) - very cute - I actually like this look better than the original
LadyS - I think the cutie mark is cute, but it could use some more definition from outline, shading, or both. Maybe something darker to tie into the hair more. You might also consider adding a small pumpkin/web to her forehead - I think it could be a nice touch with the simplicity of her symbols :)

Yellow!! She is so beautiful!
I love her wings and I love her paintwork.....separately. The strong black lines do not work well with her soft pastel colors. Her hair, eyes, and symbol are so elegant and precious!

Ooh, I don't even like the original Dancing Butterflies, but that is beautiful. The only thing I would change a bit are her eyes, I would go with more hasbro, less stylized look. The wings are very pretty.

I'll post! This is one of my more recent customs... we're talking a long time ago though! I did some rehairs recently so hopefully I'll start to get back into my customising :)

I love her! Her color, hair, and design! If I was to see anything to improve upon, it might be the ice cream dish. The texture/color and a little confusing, some smoothing and maybe bringing in some more color (it could be a lighting thing). Brava!

Scrub-adub, try working with thinner paint, you have a lot of brushstrokes. The sculpting needs a lot of smoothing. When painting the hair, take care not to get purple on the body. The colors look great though!

daffydilly - I would have liked to see the icecream and cherry 3d as well ;) great hair colors on her
scrub-adub - what hannaliten said...as for the paint, you can go back with white paint to cover up any purple from the hair that got on the body....but maybe try to paint slower so to better avoid getting hair paint on the body
there's a good base here. my rec would be to take your time more with all aspects from sculpting (including sanding after it's dried and before paint), to painting (making sure to thin the pain and do lots of coats for smoothness and coverage.
The eye looks pretty good

I made these Scully and Mulder ponies because I'm a big X-Files fan. But, they look kind of BLAH to me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe not enough colors? I'm at a loss. :| (and yes, the eye gems are missing, at some point I will get some and add them, in the meantime I gave them a large eyeshine, ha ha)

Scully looks really great! maybe find a way to give her a tiny cross necklace? (amazing symbol work!)
mulder looks kinda blah to me (to use your word :lol: )
maybe some "lights" on or coming from the UFO? could shine across the body too....and *maybe* use a sponge to paint a darker shade down his spine like shadows falling?

I don't customize, but I wanted to leave a comment here because I bought Colorscapeart's flame kissed Moondancer! I don't usually collect customs, but I was drawn to this one because she is so unique.
I love how she appears multi-colored, like various hues of metal shining in the sun. The way her hair is sculpted is brilliant. The only thing I can possibly see is that the symbols are different sizes, but that kind of suits her and that may have been done on purpose because metal art is usually not symmetrical. And maybe the placement of her tail laying up against her rump on the NDS could have been situated a little further down to allow for another star to be visible.
I absolutely love her, and CSA, I had to search her over multiple times to even look for possible suggestions. She is stunning and definitely not a "rut." You are very talented :D

I think you've had great suggestions. They both are well done in their current state. Honestly it screams g2 to me if it has tinsel in the hair (and maybe tail). Also maybe painting the hooves to match their hair color will give a bit of pizzaz?

I did think about giving Scully her necklace somehow, so to hear someone else mention it is a good sign, I will definitely do that. :) And those are interesting ideas for Mulder, I'm going to contemplate them and see what I can do! It is pretty much too late to put tinsel in the mane, but I like the suggestion about the hooves, that could be neat.
I'll be sure and post pics when I finish "editing" them ^.^

I don't even care about X-files and I love Scully! I agree with the adding more detail to the UFO/trees to Mulder and I don't know how you would feel about cutting his hair shorter. He looks very 'pretty' with long hair. I think these ponies are both very well done though :D

I know very little of x-files beyond the theme song.. I do agree that something with the one with the UFO is kind of lacking
