So the National Fair was amazing and made me miss our local fairs! I haven't heard anything about MD or VA fairs yet, and I do know some pony people in my area can't make those, so I am looking at renting facilities in Alexandria, VA, just over the river from DC, inside the Beltway. I was thinking about late September through early October, before the holidays start to make everything crazy. I'll leave this post up for a week or so to get a rough head count, and then see what options are available to us.
This would be an all-generation event.
I'd also like to see what you'd like out of a local fair here: buying/selling/trading, socializing, watching movies, playing games, showing off collections, maybe mini educational presentations (history of ponies, nirvanas)?

I'll be glad to help with what I can Jadis. Princessmaker (Debbie) and I have usually run the Va meet but this year we both have had so much going on that we have had zero time to plan or do anything where the meet is concerned. I know that we even had VA meet as our fair table but I that was because we didn't even have time to update Summer on changing it to something different. I'm sure some were wondering what was going on, but it's just been a really busy year for me with my job and personally.
I'll gladly help out with ideas and games or stuff like that, I still have some of last years meet supplies, although I don't have everything since quite a bit of it is spread between my place and Princessmakers. I can do an inventory of what I still have and PM you Jadis.
We also still have a facebook page for the VA pony collectors setup that you could used for advertising and notices on facebook, etc. hopefully this link will work:

Thanks Gezibing! But I don't want to take away VA Meet from Karen and Debbie, since their meet is more state-focused. I'm dubbing this Metro Meet, since it's VA/MD/DC.
I'm not sure if we'll want a website or not yet, but I'll contact you if I need any help with it!
For those asking about vending: I don't think this meet will be very big, and I haven't scoped out venues yet, but I will make sure we have tables/space for people to set out wares for selling and trading.
And, on a personal note - AnitasMom, more small plushies please! I don't have the space for your big ones.

I completely understand, I actually just canceled plans for tomorrow night. For an introvert with anxiety issues, there's no greater rush than canceling plans.
But that was some random meet-and-greet thing, and I have more than enough IRL friends now. (Six, in case you were wondering.) This will be pony people! Pony people are great. Because pony people will understand why you need to have a little sit-down in the hallway like I did during the VA Meet a couple of years ago.
Now, the places I'm looking aren't near metro stations, but that's not an issue - I'll pick you up. I lived in Fairfax, 66 is just a nightmare, I totally understand why you'd want to metro in. Just get yourself to the Crystal City stop, and I'll come get you, then we'll head to the venue together.

Hey everyone! Sorry about the lack of updates. I'm disabled and life has been...exciting?...lately so Metro Meet got shoved to the back burner for a bit. (Dramatic Coast Guard rescue! Lawsuits! Job offers! Broken relationships! Family reunions! Dragon Con! Sick pets! And not enough naps by half.)
BUT I have found a lovely venue, Metro-accessible, with on-site parking! Just waiting for application approval and estimate now. But hopefully we'll be set for the Metro Meet on:

GOOD LORD. I'm not sure we can come, maybe we can, but still can't commit, but it sounds like you need to hold a "Life crisis" group talk so you don't have to repeat the stories fifty times. Dramatic Coastie rescue...!!

Bad news, everyone. I'm going to have to cancel the Metro Meet for the time being. I thought we were pretty set, but what was a very reasonable $400-$500 rental turned into $1000 and I just don't have that kind of money on hand. To further complicate things, my health has been pretty bad lately. Usually that's something I can push through, but to hold the kind of meet I wanted to have, I needed either money or decent health and right now I just don't have either.
So while the Oct. 11th date is dead, I am still hoping on having Metro Meet in the spring, sometime in March or April. That'll give me plenty of time to stock up on supplies and build games.
I'm really sorry about the delay, everyone, but don't give up on me yet!

Bad news, everyone. I'm going to have to cancel the Metro Meet for the time being. I thought we were pretty set, but what was a very reasonable $400-$500 rental turned into $1000 and I just don't have that kind of money on hand. To further complicate things, my health has been pretty bad lately. Usually that's something I can push through, but to hold the kind of meet I wanted to have, I needed either money or decent health and right now I just don't have either.
So while the Oct. 11th date is dead, I am still hoping on having Metro Meet in the spring, sometime in March or April. That'll give me plenty of time to stock up on supplies and build games.
I'm really sorry about the delay, everyone, but don't give up on me yet!
I hope you get to feeling better soon, that is the important thing. :)
