Title: Figma Snow Miku Fakie (Show me your anime bootlegs!) NEW PICS ADDED!
Post by: Sprinklecupcake on June 29, 2014, 07:14:17 AM
EDIT: So im editing the original post and making this a 'share pictures of your anime fakie and cartoon character' kind of thread. You guys are the BEST for making me feel at home with my love for my newest fakie, Mika!!!!!

If you have any bootlegs/fakies of any anime characters that you just absolutly love and adore for its beauty or because they were simply too hilarious looking that you had to own it PLEASE SHOW ME THEM! :-)

So here is my first one!! This is my goregeous  'Figma Snow Miku' fakie. I got her by accident, thinking she was the real deal (which honestly was too good to be true) I purchased on ebay from a chinese seller.  Although when I got her I immedietly knew she was a knock off but I felt amore when I held her cheaply made but cute little plastic body in her hands! I think she is BEAUTIFUL for a fakie and I will display her around Xmas for the holidays! My husband calls her 'Mika' xD

For legit Figmas, you're best off using websites likes Mandarake.jp (for second-hand figures. Use the Japanese characters to search as it'll get more results), and AmiAmi (though their shipping is often expensive as they use boxes way larger than necessary). Buying from Ebay, especially Chinese and HK sellers, nearly always means a bootleg, and if the price is too good to be true, it often is. The Snow Miku line is limited and exclusive to WonderFestival and GSC's online store, so she'll likely be more expensive than regular Figmas, so just bear this in mind :) Myfigurecollection.net is also a good place to check out for bootleg warnings and for general info on the better places to buy figures, from both online stores and other users~

If you like her despite her being a bootleg (and I hold a special place in my heart for those horrific "it hurts to live" bootleg figures, you know, the ones that don't even look like the figure they're supposed to be!) then that's fine, you're allowed your own opinion, after all! I know people that intentionally buy bootlegs if they can't afford the real thing!

Sorry to hear you got a fakie! She is terribly cute though :) IMO if you like her and enjoy having her, even though she's a bootleg, ignore what others say. She's *your* figure, not theirs. ;)

She is certainly cute even for a bootleg, but yeah, I'd warn against buying off eBay if you can help it.

As CupidStrikes said, for second hand figures, Mandarake is definitely the place to go, they have some really good deals!

I'd display her anyway though, because she is rather pretty!

I remember seeing her a few years back at an anime expo :)

I love the vocoloid music but couldn't bear myself to spend soo much on a figure.  A friend ended up getting me a shirt instead (I ended up getting sick and missing the rest of the con)

She might not be real, but she is still adorable!

Sorry she's not the real figure you thought she was, but you have her now, you may as well love her. I mean you didn't intentionally hunt down this knock off so I can't see why you should feel guilty or let others make you feel bad for it. If you like her, then that really is a good thing, after all you spent money on her and now she's yours like it or not. Love her. Take pics. Ignore the rudeness or, if you have trouble doing that, only post her pics places where it won't be an issue. You have every right to enjoy your stuff. I also see no reason why you can't still get a real one if you like. The 2 could be friends. :silly:

Why on earth should you be ashamed? She's absolutely wonderful! Personally, I'd ignore spiteful people, and avoid them, she's your figure, you paid for her, and she's lovely. I know the pit feeling that 'she's wonderful....but she's fake.' But she is lovely, and could step in until you can afford the real thing at least? I personally like her :)

I will say this is one of the better looking fakes I have seen.

Even if she is a bootleg/fakie, I still think your Mika's pretty cute! I agree that she is one of the better looking Miku fakies I've seen. It is a bummer that she wasn't the legit figure you hoped she would be when you bought her, but at least you didn't pay a whole lot of money for her (like $65+). Good thing that you left feedback on that seller so the same thing doesn't happen to others.
As long as you like her, take pictures of her if you want to! Sorry to hear you got some mean comments on IG (people can be pretty rude there). Like others have said, just ignore/delete them. :)

For a fakie she looks pretty neat to me. Im not an anime collector, to look at, I wouldn't have even known she was a bootleg. If you enjoy her, who cares what others think. I only have a tiny pony collection, but I can proudly say there are more "fakies" in it than original mlp. Why? Cause I like them and I don't care what others think :) its my stuff not theirs.

I had the same problem with mlp fakies back in the days. Everyone else said eww while I thought they we're the cutest things ever. Shame I went with the others and just recently embraced my love for them.

Love the heck out of Mika! She's a real beauty.

Probably most of the hate she got came from weeaboos.

It seems the Anime figure and BJD communities are the ones that actually attack other people for getting bootlegs. Most collectors of American toys don't really mind people having fakies as you can see here and on the MH Arena.

Sorry to be a noob, but what's a "weeaboo"?
As a Fakie pony lover, I appreciate all kinds of fakes, including anime! There are even grail fakies out there (like Princess Rinse n' Spit) who even non-fakie lovers appreciate! There's nothing wrong with loving the "oddball" especially when they're as adorable as that one is! I'd display her anywhere you want

A "weeaboo" is an Anime fan that takes it to the extreme. They think everything Japanese is the best thing ever and anything not Japanese is inferior and often wish they were Japanese themselves.

Ah...so...a jerk?
Basically. xD Or  like "That one obnoxious person that doesn't shut up about how great/horrible something is".

Examples are:

" Ugh I dunno how anyone can watch dubbed anime!  [Japanese] Subs are the best! All anime are better in Japanese!"
" I hate living in the US! I wish I lived in Japan/was Japanese! I would so eat real ramen all day and wear my cosplay all the time!! "
or
" OMG! Sugoi! That chibi neko is so kawaii desu ne~! :P " / "That guy was such a bishounen! I want him as my senpai! You don't know what that [all] means? Ugh, you are such a baka!!! "
(It pained me to type that last one out, lol!).

lol... that's hilarious.

I just wanted to say, sometimes the fakes appear up at cons too. But seeing them in person, it's a bit easier to tell based on how they look. T__T; And it can be so frustrating finding a good deal, but not getting a fake.

:) Enjoy your Mika, she's a cutie. Figmas are really nice quality. I had a append Miku and I loved her to bits. I ended up selling her to get a Nendoroid version instead, since I have have a bunch of other Nendoroids...

I am also in the camp that she is your figure, and don't you dare let anyone bully you out of loving it or any other toy you might like, fakie or not. There's no room for that kind of negativity from others in a hobby that's supposed to be fun. I mean... We are all adults playing with toys here, so what's the point in people having attitudes like that? It just makes no sense to me. :/

Dealing with jerks aside, I am sorry to hear about your bad experience in terms of being misled by a dishonest seller. There's no room for people like that either, but I'm happy to know that you are going to love that figure anyway and make some lemonade out of lemons. :)

OMG, those are priceless! I'm a complete noob at anime (Ok...I know up until about 1998 when I was introduced. My fav is "Wings of Honneamise") but even I can see something ain't quite right about those! :lmao:

I've no pics of anime bootlegs, but I can show you my favourite fakie....Ok, well, one of my favourites. Her name is Princess Rinse n' Spit....at least, that's what everyone calls her. I think she's beautiful and I've recently FINALLY got my hands on one, AND I got her working again (her light up head lamp crystal, anyway) she's supposed to either make clip clop noises or play music, but she's silent so far...
Anyway, here's the picture that made me fall in love. I don't know whose it is, but if it is yours, THANK YOU!! She's awesome!

The bootleg stands are much bigger on the base, lighter, and don't use the magnetic poles you see behind them. They use little hooked plastic poles that you stab into holes on their butts..... ALSO! Anyone has these for sale, either series? Let me know? I still REALLY want the real ones.

Oh wow those figures are all lovely!!!!! I would have never guessed those were booties!!!!

So I have a question, I have a Keldeo (Pokedoll?) plush who I got on ebay for $7. I was reading that legit plushies from japan never sell that cheap unless they are bootlegs. However, mine seems real? He has a cloth tag from the pokemon center in japan with japanese characters and a pokeball. His quality feels great, just a bunch of loose strings, an unstuffed horn, and his mouth embriodery is slightly misaligned. Also part of stitching on the his blue chest piece came undone and he did come with a cloth leg tag but not a paper tag I would imagine be cliped to his head with a plastic tee thingy. Could he just be a minor factory reject and I got a good deal on a legit pokemon center keldeo? He might be a bootleg as his mane looks slightly different than the model placeholder image I see of him. I have some pictures below! ( isnt he just so precious!!! <3) Someday I am going to have Vick autograph him and put him next to my sexy japanese Edward figure!!! <3 <3 <3

If the seller was in Hong Kong it's probably a bootie. If they were in the US or Europe or Australia it is probably a second hand one and it's really hard to tell if it is legit in that case.

Thanks! I tried to look up info on who I bought Keldeo from but now its too late and I cant look back over a year xD Its probably a bootie since I got him so cheap but I love him regardless!  He is actually snuggled up to me right now <3 I might actually collect bootleg pokedolls since I spend so much $$ on the games, official guidebooks, and the cards LOL! I have a friend on IG who also collects bootie pokedolls and they are still so adorable!

I wouldn't exactly say cheap is a bootleg for sure. I have a Banpresto plush Cure Dream that came from Japan for $8 shipped.

At least your Keldo plush looks good for a bootleg (if it's a bootleg). It's light years ahead of those bootleg Pikachus I saw years ago where the red cheek marks were just red circles of fabric lazily glued on. Pretty sure some were missing a mark because of the lack of effort and terribad glue.

And these were at a legit local retail store in America! Not some shady Chinatown alleyway. They closed like a month later. Did Nintendo crush them? No one knows.

If your Keldeo is a bootleg, it really is a good looking one - it looks legit to me. Especially the tag/label. It may very well be a legit plush.

At least the Pokemon Center (site) will be back in the states, so yay for being able to get the plushies/merchandise cheaper than from Japan directly. xD

It's not just Chinatown stores and dodgy Ebay sellers that have bootlegs. I've heard that many "Local" anime goods stores stock bootlegs (whether knowingly or not), and bootlegs are often sold at conventions, etc, so you have to always be vigilant!

Getting a good deal doesn't always mean a bootleg, it could just be that you picked a good time to grab that Keldeo or that the seller didn't start the bidding higher because they didn't think it was worth so much ^^ Whilst he might seem flawed, the sad thing about exclusive merchandise, is that the higher price point and exclusivity doesn't always mean the product is better quality than any other mass-produced merchandise.

Yup, bootlegs definitely get sold at conventions, that's where I picked up my Puella Magi Madoka Magica figures.  I think they're supposed to be a dupe of the Nendoroids but they're bigger and they don't look very well put together, but I still think they're cute and cost less than half the price of the legit Nendoroid  figures.

For display purposes they're just fine  ^.^  I prefer collecting the the bigger character figures and would rather spend my money on the official ones of those.

Here's my officials  :)

I totally agree that if you're happy with the bootleg then I don't see an issue.  I bought a Sailor Mercury Figuarts off of eBay a while back however and she turned out to be fake, (the price was a bit too good to be true, I should have known better) but the Sailor Moon Figuarts are apparently awful and you can't even pose them properly, so I just decided to return her instead.

The Figurearts rarely get good reviews from what I've seen, and I recently saw the legit (I think) Mars in person and eh...I'm glad I didn't chase a per-order for Sailor Mercery (it sucks that Bandai has the licence, really). I'm not a big fan of jointed figures, as I find the joints often stick out and look very ugly, and these were no exception.

Those Madoka prize figures are awesome :D I have a set of Banpresto ones that prolly cost me around or under £15 each, including postage (and they are legit and actually really good quality). If the series you like has prize figures, they are definitely the way to go, or Nendoroids. It's very easy to pick up many Nendoroids for cheaper than bootlegs - My Madoka Nendoroid was second-hand but like-new and cost me I think £20 after shipping. Bootlegs tend to be around £10-£15 and considering the gap in quality, I'm glad I paid the extra for the real thing. Thing is, with figures you generally tend to get what you pay for (I would double-check the reputation of the company first, there are a few that tend to disappoint more often than not). My Alter figures cost me upwards of £45 each after postage, depending on how good customs was to me, and they are stunning.

I bought the Sailor Moon Figuarts, because it was the first figure of the new merchandise available and she looked great and as a huge moonie naturally I wanted her.

She a first edition so I decided to keep her MIB, with the intention to buy another to open later, but with all the scouts being released at varying prices (especially the outer senshi) I decided against it, and at this point the Figuarts Zero had been released which I wanted more because I prefer non-posable figures.  I was just going to save up for the Zeros as the first Sailor Moon one seemed reasonably priced .. and then they released the the rest of the inner senshi.  Seriously, £100+ for Sailor Mercury, Venus, etc, not a chance!  :drunk:
As much as I'd love to have them that is crazy amounts of money, so I'm hoping they drop in value after a while once they've all been released.

You're so right about prize figures, they're like a budget option but they still look beautiful!  The build quality is amazing.  I picked up my Homura prize figure at London MCM this year for £22 and knew I had to have the set right away! (unfortunately Homura and one other Madoka, which had slight damage so I never took, were the only ones I could find at the con)  I found the other 4 on eBay from a seller in Japan for a great price and bought them in a bundle, so I saved a bit on the figures and got combined postage rates.  I managed to get the whole set for under £100.  ^.^

I was so happy to see the release of the Banpresto Sailor Moon prize figures.  I'm going to buy them now instead of the Figuarts or the Figuarts Zero collection, for now anyway, in an ideal world I could afford them all!  I'll no doubt be able to buy the whole prize figure set for the price of one Figuarts Zero!

There are sets of mini Sailor Senshi but...they are randomly packed from two types - a regular expression, and a winking expression. And the winking expression is kinda...meh. I'm hoping that Banpresto's Moon prize will mean we'll see the others. I want a Mercury and Venus so bad but I'm not paying the prices for Bandai's exclusives

I did buy an expensive Ultimate Madoka/Godoka scale figure, and I think she was worth every penny. I have this one:

(only downside is her wings keep falling out grrr) I couldn't resist that sweet face of hers. The other upside to prize figures is they have more interesting poses than the more expensive GSC ones, especially Sayaka. I loathe that piece of art where she's doing the aeroplane arms as so many figures and merchandise seems to copy and ughhhh those poses are so dull and flat, there are so many poses from the anime to pick from and they picked that one...

The cheap Pokedolls are likely factory rejects. This subject came up frequently on PKMNCollectors. Rejects are of much higher quality than bootlegs, but they're not 100% up to par with the Pokemon Center's incredibly high standards.

Often, the flaws are really minor. The sale of these items is a huge grey area, much like some of the Pony things we see on TaoBao.

I have a factory reject Flareon plush. I'll have to post pictures here when I get home!

Kurama might be a fakie as well since it was $30 and that included shipping from China.

I am totally fine with bootleg anime things, ponies on the other hand not so much.
