Title: Sweet Rainbow Bakery
Post by: KaibaGirl007 on May 28, 2014, 07:12:17 AM
I spotted a new playlet which I don't think has been seen before: http://www.smythstoys.com/my-little-pony-46sc/my-little-pony-sweet-rainbow-bakery-137669itm.aspx?qwSessionID=689e7269-926d-4f73-b9ef-f9ed5620ff68
Seems a insanely pricey for a single pony and accessories

I think it's cute!  ^.^
It's definitely a set I will not be unboxing though.

That Mrs Cake has different eyes than the last version. And roller skates!? To help her.. bake faster?

I honestly think they should have just included Pinkie Pie in this set… (never thought I would be asking for another pinkie pie xD)

I like how the register has a key bigger than the cash drawer. And the cake also has a key

I do think this set is cute, but we have already seen a release of Mrs. Cake. Personally, I think this set would have been good with some of the candy/baked goods themed blind bag characters.

Some ponies that would fit well for this set would be:
Spoiler
Sweetie Blue

Pudding Pie

Cinnamon Breeze

I like this set and do not mind that it comes with Mrs. Cake (since I do not have her yet) but this would have been a good time to maybe add another male to the G4 toy world and give us a Mr. Cake. I love that cute little Pinkie Pie themed key which kinda makes me think Pinkie Pie should have been in the set.

They could have re-released Cupcake/Plumsweet/Cherry Pie with this set :( Also, it's a shame so many places are willing to stock the more expensive and ultimately shelf-warming playsets (Twilight's coronation castle is around £10 now, some places still have Cadence & Shining Armour's castle...) rather than the £12/£13 sets that had Mrs. Cake and Twirly Treats in.

Neat, but yeah, seems like an lost opportunity.  They must have CRATES full of Mrs. Cake Brusables!! XD

I like the unlocking key accessories though!

Hm. Cute accessories, I really have to admit that but... the price is just wow and her eyes are a little creepy I think lol.
Buuuuut : i dont have Mrs Cake yet and I definitely want her. Hm.

I believe we saw promotional photos of this set, around the same time as the stock photo of FS Applejack & Daisy Dreams. I think at that point a Pinkie was shown to be included in the set? But I'm glad they didn't throw her in there upon release, since we already have the tinsel brushable and the body markings brushable. I think a rerelease of Plumsweet, Cupcake or Sweetie Swirl would have been cool to include, but so many people never saw the Princess Bakery (including myself!) that it's nice just to have another chance at a Mrs Cake figure.

Interesting that they would make a separate Mrs. Cake for this set alone. (Her eyes in the other set are completely different.)

Wonder if they are trying to appeal to the collectors who need to have EVERY release if it's even the littlest bit different?

Would have loved to see a Sweetie Blue brushable with this set. :(

It's so stupid of Hasbro to re-release this character again so soon and in such a large set by herself.

It's so stupid of Hasbro to re-release this character again so soon and in such a large set by herself.

The set with Twirly Treats has been incredibly rare in some places, making her pretty sought after. Here, I think I've only heard of two instances of people finding the set in a store.
It's possible Hasbro are hoping enough people want her still to be willing to open their wallets a bit more. I just hope this release makes her loose price drop on Ebay.

Yes thats when we first saw it. And then it popped up on Amazon Canada around the same time as the EQG car and the Sugarcube Corner Pop playset as well.

I agree it would have been nice to see another pony it other than another repeat release.

I was just about to mention this too. Looks like maybe it was a last minute decision to switch her out?
Anyway, this is a cute set, I'd like to get it when it drops in price (since I won't pay full price for re-releases).

My first reaction- WHY NO SWEETIE BLUE! We just had a Mrs Cake playset! Im never gonna drop the tinsel Sweetie Blue thing ever. Come on' Hasbro, she would be perfect!

But I am glad overall Hasbro is giving us non-mane 6 characters in the playsets. I notice she has new eyes! Im suprised she doesnt have any rainbow power hair or legs. Is that Pinkies little key? What.

Haha roller skates to make her bake faster xD

If you do let me know cause the closest TRU from me is an hour and a half bus ride for me :/ since I don't drive.

What is with the current trend of tossing a bunch of accessories with a pony and considering that a "playset"? (This is aimed at Hasbro, not at the TC.)  Do customers these days not want or deserve proper playsets, where there's actually something you can keep all the bits inside?  Even the super simple ones like the Pretty Parlor and Poof n' Puff were capable of this.  I adored my Lullaby Nursery because it kept everything together and I could carry it outside to play.

I'm glad I got the first set: love that chef's hat XD

I can't wait to hunt down the accessories to this on the 2nd hand market.

I wish they'd release an actual playset of Sugarcube Corner.  Interlocking Castles are great & all...but actual Ponyville buildings would be great.  Or at least re-releases of the first playsets (barn, tree, boutique).

Certainly is here. I've never seen it in the wild; TRU UK don't carry this size playset, and neither do any of the other toy stores, it appears.

Its not actually a playset. Or Hasbro are not calling it that. Its an Accessory Pack. Retailers can pretty much call it whatever they like however. And I think they are relying on the cardboard backdrop to justify the "playset" tag.

I think this is totally cute! I don't mind that its a re-release of a non-mane six, especially since she is different and not "super happy eyed."

A new pony would've been better, but at least it's Mrs. Cake instead of another Pinkie Pie.  I don't even care how she got Pinkie Pie's key.

This does make me wonder if we'll see accessory packs for the other main characters.  The toy key was clearly inspired by the show--or, more likely, vice versa.

You see, Mr Cake was injured in a freak meringue accident that morning & Mrs Cake began to panic about making it to a big catering job so Pinkie whipped out her magic key & unlocked the cake so she could put all the smaller cupcakes IN it so one pony could carry everything & she chucked Mrs Cake on roller skates so she wouldn't be late to her catering engagement but then Pinkie was called away on FiM business & forgot to take along her key. It all makes perfect sense, really.

I was going to say something similar as the first poster.  While I understand that this is technically cheaper, I miss the days of g1 playsets where there were actual buildings.

I never found the Celebration Bakery so I'm fine with this release as I can finally get Mrs Cake! It's avaliable to buy at Smyths if you are in the UK. However,£20 is really overdoing it for one pony, a few accessories and some cardboard backdrop :/ I'll try and wait for it to be reduced but I don't want to wait too long in case it sells out quickly :/

Hmmm... While I really like a lot of the accessories, I already have Mrs. Cake and her accessories from the first set..... and the little play backdrop for this new one will NOT hold up to actual display or playing, the "floors" are too thin and unsupported... so I would not have room to contain all those accessories. Shame.....

Oh I 100% agree. The lack of actual building defeats the purpose for me. And I worry that with Hasbro providing things like these accessory packs and retailers selling them as playsets and managing to keep the price lower than a playset would be, it may end up reducing actual playsets. Unfortunately I think at best we will get 1 or 2 playsets a year - and so far they have almost always been repeats - basically Castle after Castle.

What I do wish Hasbro would do is bring back some of their earlier buildings - the school house and the barn were not amazing as they were really just frontage but its better than just some cardboard and reissued ponyville accessories.

Unfortunately with the Sugarcube Corner release I worry that they are going to put their effort into the POP line now.

As long as the size is compatible even if they decide to make all the playsets part of the POP line it should be fine. Just think they could put a whole lot of playsets out without taking a ton of shelf space.
