Doin' a thing! And I need lots of mythological critters.
I'll start the list off:
Wolpertinger - like a European Jackalope, only with wings, this antlered rabbit is pretty neat.
Peryton - winged stag, sometimes with bird feet. Casts the shadow of a man until it kills one, at which point it casts its own true shadow.
Hippocampus - Merhorse! Tail of a sea-serpent/fish, front of a horse. I rode on one on a merry go round as a child and loved them ever since. From Greek mythology.
Mermaid - another half another animal. I love seeing art of them, how people use all sorts of fish, and the ones where the mermaid is the size of a whale and underneath a boat.
Centaur - I had an interesting dream about centaurs that were half big fat wooly cows chilling out on a hill, and that reminded me of how much I love that people make centaurs out of all sorts of hooved animals. I saw a great giraffe one the other day.
Griffins - I seem to really like animals that are a mix of other animals. I saw a cute pigeon one today that instead of being part lion, it was part rat.
-
Selkies are pretty neat.

Unicorns! I know, I know... pretty standard fantasy critter but still my favorite. I also fancy chupacabras quite a bit :)
-
Not particularly unheard of but I love Dragons and Pegasi :)
-
Phoenix and Asian dragons. I'm fond of yin-yang ideas and the thought of rebirth and eternal souls. ^.^
-
Probably phoenixes :) I like pegasi too :)
-
I really like dragons! I'm most familiar with the idea of Western dragons from fantasy fiction. I love the Dragonriders of Pern, DragonLance, Seraphina, the Enchanted Forest chronicles, among other books!
-
Ummm all of them! Honestly i couldn't just pick a single favorite. I love all the ones I already know and I love all the ones I haven't heard of yet.
-
Well it isn't a species but one of my all time favorites is Achiyalabopa! Which is a very unknown one but I love it all the same. ♥ Harpies are also pretty cool.
-
Unicorns, obviously! Pegasis, hippocampus and kelpie. Basically anything horse related lol
-
I'm quite fond of dragons, and I rather like the Questing Beast as well.
-
I've had this thing about mermaids since childhood. I wish I could become one! Would you count Star Wars creatures in this too? Because I also love Wookiees! I'm making a pink one actually. =)
Then of course there are fantasy horses, but unicorns are my favorite type.
-
I love dragons! Cute dragons, scary dragons, big dragons, little dragons, friendly dragons, evil dragons...I  dragons.
-
I love everything you guys have brought up so far, btw. Especially things like selkies and harpies which I had totally blanked on.
(also dragons are so fun and there's SO MUCH you can do with dragons)
-
Oh gosh I'm sorry I didn't realize you need to know for a project! I'm over here just babbling about how all of them are cool.
I don't know how far you're taking fantasy but I have tons of monster / creatures.
Here's some more I found in my books:
Remorhaz: A centipede-like insect thats about 20 feet long, lives in frozen wastelands underground. Found him in a monster book, he has DnD origins.
Chimera: You know this one, the dragon/goat/lion hybrid. Sometimes the dragon is a snake. The creatures design always differs it seems, and I've seen many versions.
Manticore: Similar to a sphynx, it has a lion body and a human face. Sometimes they have wings or horns. Their tails are snakes or dragons and sometimes they're just covered in poisonous spikes.
Gargoyle: The stone statues that come to life! Most of the time they have wings, many different depictions. (I have one in my room :P )
Yuan-ti: Another DnD creature. I actually never knew a lot of these were DnD creatures? They're human/snake creatures with impressive psychic abilities.
Werewolf: The classic man into beast. There are many versions.
Rakshasa: Luxurious and wealthy shape-shifting tigers. They can read minds and they're thumbs are on the exterior of their hands rather than the interior. They're immortal.
Nightmare: DnD creature, it is a black horse with a mane and tail and fetlocks of fire. It also snorts fire from it's nostrils.
Jabberwock: The creature from Alice in Wonderland.
Cerberus: The three-headed dog who guards Hades.
Sleipnir: An eight legged horse from Norse mythology. Given to Odin by Loki.
Chupracabra: Blood sucking monster from the south! I used to hunt for them, never found one lol.
Leviathan: Giant sea monster, mentioned as far back as the days from the bible.
Basilisk: Chicken head, serpent body. One look will turn you to stone!
Minotaur: From greek mythology. Human body, head of a bull. Guarded King Minos maze.
Thunderbird: Giant two headed bird. Big enough to take and slaughter whales form the ocean. He comes from Native American lore.
Jersey Devil: Donkey/Dog/Goat/Dragon creature from New Jersey. Kills animals and small children.
Loch Ness Monster: Good old nessie, lives in Scotland.
-
Unicorns. Duh. :P And yeah, pegasi, too, but unicorns are my childhood.
-
I dunno! I like them all! Maybe Selkies though..... Or the Kappa.
-
Oh and how could I forget Werewolves, werewolves are amazing!
-

Haha, that was totally okay! I also asked because I was interested/for discussion. But thank you so much for the list!
-
Unicorns. I've read practically every book on them. I also am quite fascinated by its different cousins, K'i-Lin, Kirin, Karkadann and the super mega unheard of Campchurch (Sea Unicorn).
-
Ahh, Eric Northman... :lookround:

Intrigued by the campchurch
-
Dragons are number 1, hands down, then unicorns and griffons.
-
Mermaids! I just love them and I think they even exist
I also love unicorns. :satisfied:
-
I like so many of them but far too many to list here.
Nightmare: DnD creature was made into a toy, you might be able to find one on toy stable! They also made a dragon lion cross one too, I have one and it is awesome!
I also have a mini book called the monster alphabet it was a kick starter project.
-
Ahh, Eric Northman... :lookround:
Uh yes please! Lol.
I like unicorns mermaids and dragons. I like a lot of fantasy creatures.
-
How about gremlins?

Ahh, Eric Northman... :lookround:
:like:
I am Scottish so my favourite has to be unicorns of course :)
I also love the idea of the Ghillie Dhu - he is a tree fairy. Its such a Celtic thing but most of our mythical creatures tend to be quite nasty and evil or just plain dark. As well as kelpies you have each-uisge - they are basically even more nasty versions of kelpies but the main difference is they live in salt/sea water where as kelpies live in lakes/streams and fresh water. Or equivalent of werewolves are called Wulvers - they have the body of a man and the head of a wolf. And of course bean shidh - more commonly known outside as banshees.
Sounds like a fun project!
-
Displacer beasts, chupacabras, werewolves, gryphons, dragons, gnolls, and Pokémon ;D
-
It's a toss up between unicorns and dragons...
-
Dragons, definitely. As a child the movie 'the flight of dragons' cemented my love of them forever ^.^
-
Nekomata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nekomata)! As well as unicorns, selkies, werewolves/werecats.. pretty much all of them. XD
-
I suppose it would be dragons for me - after all, what's not to like about a giant lizard?
Although Griffins get to come in second, just because I like to randomly quote Dragon Age and say "Does this story have griffins in it?" whenever someone starts telling a story that sounds like it's going to be endless.
-
Unicorn, Pegasus, Alicorn, Pixie, Brownie, Faerie, Elf, Gnome, Knocker, Troll, Goblin, Ogre, Orc, Giant, Dragon, Nessie, Bigfoot, Nymph, Sylph, Undine, Kitsune, Nekomata, Hua Po, and there's like a billion others, but those are the ones that are the coolest/most beautiful to me.
-
El Chupacabra!
-
Werewolves and any other shapeshifter!
I also rather like manticores, too.
-
Unicorns, pegasus, dragons (especially Eastern dragons), gryphons, werewolves, elves, mermaids, satyrs, centaurs. Just to name a few. :P
