She arrived today and guess what? She's a Pat Pend with pale grey/greenish eyes! She has almost complete sheen on them, and it's very different color of sheen/gloss than the "normal" one that i have.
Here they are with flash:

I bought this girl and am wondering what she would normally sell for, if she's a new variant or if she'd been seen before. These are the pics from the seller:

I've been looking specifically for TE variants lately, and I just can't wait to get more info on her!!
Added: This is what normal eyed G1 Sweet Stuff looks like:

I believe this photo is from My Little Wiki :)

Not entierly sure, but her eyes may be faded. I recall someone on the arena had a very lovely green eyed Sweet Stuff but her eyes were a somewhat deep emerald. :)
-
Yeah, that just looks faded to me. Pretty though.

'twas me. :) I'll pull up her photo in a bit, on theipad at the moment.
But what you're looking at here wouldbe the"grey eyed" version of the TE's. These are the "non-patent pending" versions and typically have very washed out eyes. Check the hoofs, she should be missing the "pat. pend" onone of her hooves. ^-^

Here we go - finally found my pictures. :) I don't own her anymore, but the Green-Eyed Sweet Stuff was a prototype that I came across quite a few years ago while collecting. I collected variant and nirvana TE's for many years but have since sold off the remaining ponies in my collection. Sweet Stuff, however, is the only one that I truly regret selling. :(

Is it a variant because of the non-pat pend stamp and the grey eyes? If it isn't a true variant, then i feel kinda dumb being so excited about it

Yes, it is a variant. If she does not have the pat pend on her foot, then she's a different version than the typical version. There are quite a few different reasons as to the non-pat pend., one being that they're somewhat referred to as the "German" versions of ponies. You find the non-PP in other ponies as well, not just the TE's. And there are slight variations of the ponies, most obviously in the TE's that their eyes appear grey or colorless, especially when a flash is used. I have some other pictures I'll try to dig up of non-pat pend TE's that I've had and since sold (Locket, Galaxy, and a couple others), but here's a clear and comparative shot of my two Sweet Stuffs that I took before they found new homes.

Oh, Cloud Weaver, very pretty!!
Were the German non-PP versions of ponies only sold in Germany, or did they leak into surrounding countries as well? I know i've seen the German variants of ponies in the "Nirvanas By Country" thread in the Nirvana forum, but i was wondering if they (the TE's) were they created like this or, as the others have said, they're just prone to fading?
-
Really, the gems don't fade. ;) Yes, the non-PP (NPP) TE ponies carry they "grey eyed" trait. And there really isn't a way to track their origin to Germany specificially, but I will say that the NPP ponies tend to circulate through Europe more often than the US. They are primarily found in Germany, England, Switzerland, and other like countries.
I know there's a history as to why some of the ponies were released without the PP stamp but quite honestly I don't really know the story. Someone in the nirvana forum could probably answer it.
Hope that answers your question, :)
-
Huh. Well, learn something new every day! Thank you Cloud Waever  I'll have to get a less washed-out photo of her to post when she arrives!
-
No worries. :) lmk if you have any other questions.
-
They really don't fade? I've read previously that they can... now I'm trying to remember where I read that!
-
Always something new to learn about these ponies, I guess I have more ponies to see and collect than I thought.
-
yup my nonpatpend sweet stuff has grayed eyes
fyi the non patpend are not necessarily worth more, but they are harder to come by *on purpose* so you may pay a bit more to get one (I have)
-
Do you have a pic of her, Roogna? I'd love to see it  It's funny...I was Ok with TE's as a child, but they weren't my favourite. Now, as an adult, there's just something intensely appealing about them :)
-

I'm really impressed by your collection, Wizzer. Your ponies are gorgeous.
-
Wow! I appreciate that you shared your collection Wizzer, there's far more variations than I thought! :whoa:
Edit: When we are speaking about variants, wasn't there a Fizzy with green eyes and one with pink/green as well?
-
thanx guys!!...just ask if you want more!!...hehe......and that green eyed sweet stuff OMG!!!...I would just die to have her,...I remember seeing a pic of here before.
-
Hehe, those wonky eyed Spanish ponies!!
-
Wow! SO glad I'm just really mostly pretty much focused on Macau ponies and not getting all the TE's and their variants. I'm not. There's no way that's going to happen.
-
I'd seen the green eyed Sweet Stuff before but not the other variations - very pretty. :D
I learned the hard way that the eyes do fade though. I don't have an actual before photo, but here are a couple of photos of the Fizzy I sunfaded without thinking to cover her eyes. This is the side that was facing away from the sun and it's what her other eye looked like before:

I like your faded fizzy Breyer, she sure is special. :)

Not a flash photo but non pat pend locket compared to pat pend Locket think you can just pick up the more faded eye colour?

She is cute! Congrats on adding her to your collection. I agree its a combination of fading and the fact the non pat pend version has this lighter eye to start with. As mentioned in your previous thread there is a lot of variation on TEs eyes - so many produced, so many countries a little variety is perhaps expected.
I personally don't call them variants. If we were to start calling all non pat pend ponies variants then the sheer scale of ponies which fall into that category gets massive. :P All the lack of a pat pend tells us is that they were manufactured later than the ponies with the pat pend. This indicates a European release - not Germany specifically - and not released in the US.
-
The twinkle eyes are probably my favourite kind of pony. Wizzer, your collection is beautiful, the wonky eyed ones are adorable!
-

Oh....and YES YES YES YES YES YES to more pics!! The more TE's the better to see you with :P
-
lovely pics!!! ;) ;) ;) ;)
-
TE ponies are the best!!
-
I have two weird eye variations of Sweet Stuff! This thread is so cool, mine aren't anything special but, their eyes have different facets (hard to see at this angle but the darker purple one is much... taller/pointier than the lighter one) in them, as well as being a different shade

Is your lighter eyed girl a non-pat pend, Shiney?
-
I want to say... no it's not, Shell - BUT, I will pull them out later and confirm that...
-
Wizzer218 those Spanish wonkey eyed variants are slightly terrifying!
I never knew there were so many TE variants. I learn something new every time I drop by the arena!
-
She arrived  update on first post!
-
She have faded eyes? She looks really interesting though!
-
I'm not sure if they've faded...the pink streak in her hair has, but her blush is still vibrant. I'm not sure if the sun fades the gloss paint on the eyes as well, but they're different, that's for sure :)
-
Oh my gosh!! I love seeing all the different colors in the eyes :)
-
I don't know the relative rate of fading for the gems, but the hair does typically fade faster than the paint in my experience, so it seems conceivable that the gems can fade at an in-between rate, especially since that Fizzy on the previous page with a faded eye still seems to have some blush left. Unless that's just a smudge...
-
I think I may have to do a test and try sunfading a bait Sweet Stuff with normal purple eyes and good gloss to see how it fades. I won't do it to the one in the pic...she's got great shine, and yeah, she has some cancer, the the pink streak in her mane and tail are so vibrant...I just don't have the heart to bait her if I can help it!
-
Instead of fading another one, maybe you can just ask for photos of ones that are faded and see if they have blush?
-
I don't think there are many examples of known faded TE eyes out there...I've tried looking them up via Google, but all the ones I found still have a *hint* of purple or it's a completely different color to begin with, like the pink of Fizzy's eyes, and I can't really base anything off that, since pink and purple fade differently. Most people who are sunfading their ponies cover the blush as well as the hair and symbols, too.
I had a Sweet Stuff who'd have been perfect, but i sold her recently...I guess I'll just have to wait or if someone else has a baity one that they can do the test on, that'd be cool, too :)
-
I like the update, "She's a freak! Everybody run!"
-
She has super light eyes. The colour does fade and I have seen a few over the years very light but those look as though they had no colour in them at all; not even a trace of purple. I would be tempted to think they may have been that originally. But unfortunately its not possible to say for certain. b

I'd agree with this.
-
No, there's no purple or pink in them at all, Cat. I've tried looking at them under a black light as well (yeah, I'm just that intense) and while the normal sweet stuff doesn't really glow at all, hers glow a very obvious green color. Again, not a definative, but another difference, anyway.
I tried asking the seller, but they responded that they didn't know. Other than the eyes, the first streak of hair is more bluish than purple, but that's it for differences. Even the shades of their bodies are almost identical! Grrrrr....I wish there were some way to know for certain.
Does anyone else have any ideas?
-
That faded Fizzy Breyer posted seems to have no color left either though.
As for this one's eyes looking green, are you sure that's not just the way it's just refracting the blue-ish body color (or some remaining blue pigment since pink/red fades first) through the iridescent finish? It's kind of hard to tell from the pictures since the first one looks totally clear and the other two look colored.

Me too, I am inclined to say they have always been that way to :) Congrats on her
-
Thank you, nhal!
I wish I had a definative answer, but I think that's going to have to wait until I can do the sun-fading test. I thought perhaps it might be her plastic shining through, too, but the glow from the black light looks like it's throughout the gem, not just on the inside. The gloss finish on the eyes is also more silver than the "normal" one...but that may fade with sun exposure, too.
Ugh...looks like we have a hung jury until I can do the tests...
Does Breyer's faded eye Fizzy have gloss that's faded as well?
-
No, the gloss on Fizzy's eyes was pretty much rubbed entirely off. It isn't really a color just something to give the eye an iridescent effect but is otherwise clear; so, I don't know that it is even possible for that to fade. I don't have her anymore or I'd try to get some more pics with different lighting and maybe even try the blacklight to see if there is any difference between her faded and unfaded eyes.
-
She didn't originally come from the UK, did she? Just wondering because one of the MLP comic advertisements shows Twinkle-Eyes with clear eyes. But they were only prototypes, the ones sold in stores DID have colored gems as far as I know.
Wouldn't it be crazy if she was one of those prototypes, though . . .
-
I would think she is a factory mistake and not any kind of deliberate release variant. Either way very cool; but not a set release per se :)

She did come from the UK, actually. I'd love to see the advertisments! Tonight I'll take pics of her eyes under black light to show, if they turn out. We had a lightening storm here last night, and i didn't want to take the risk...

Ok, here are the best I can take with my limited camera ability. I took one of the 2 Sweet Stuffs under black light side by side....the purple is on the left and the clear on the right. I then took some shots of the only other 2 TE's I have....Masquerade and Bright eyes, just to see how they look.

Black light pics added
-
What's the purpose of looking at them under a black light?
-
It just lets any hidden colors come out and show clarity. Black lights show differences that may not be noticable under regular light :) Sometimes you can hit a fairly normal looking pony with it and errors in the plastic like regrind and age spots will show up that are normally hidden. I thought if I hit it with black light and it was actually the color of the plastic shining through to mek the greenish/blue color, then it would show, but the crystal isn't clear at all the way the purple one is.
-
Here's the advertisement! Either the jewels are clear straight through and are showing the color of the plastic that is behind them, keeping them in place, or they decided to give each prototype the same color eyes as her body.

Lol! I love those old ads!! I'm not sure if that's my Sweetie or not, but that ad just made me howl! That would be fun if it were her...I really like Gingerbread with clear diamond eyes, though...very pretty
-
I always thought from the promo pictures and the catalogue pictures that the ponies all have completely clear eyes - different from the ones they were eventually given and always looking a better quality.
-
I agree with Cat...although it would be cool if she were one of those prototypes, they look much clearer and more like a big G2 Swarovsky crystal than hers. Those are SO pretty, though...thank you for finding that ad for us
