While scrolling trough Ebay I came across this strange version of the Queen Chrysalis Brushable. The one thing that I noticed first was the fact that her hair is much lighter then her official release and that the "saddle" has a more lighter color.

There are quite a lot of them on Ebay right now and the question remains if she's just a prototype/error or a possible future release. We will let you know as soon as we know more.

the difference in quality makes me think she's a knock off

I know it most likely isn't, but the first one kind of looks like it could be what she looked like when she was slightly younger - not CMC level age, but still younger, like teenager or young adult age.

I kind of lean toward the knock off version too... Since they look air brushed or spray painted, and not with a great deal of skill (what should be hard lines are soft). As far as I'm aware, most g4 ponies aren't painted this way.

It looks like she could be the same pony, but with entirely light hair (it looks very similar in shade to the lighter hair in the released version) and no gradient applied to her back. With the quality it could go either way - we've all seen the conditions of some ponies that make it to the shelves (melted head Cadence anyone?) so she could be one of the few ones bad enough to not meet whatever quality control standards they have.

The fact is that she's already on multiple listings on Ebay so it's not just one. There are about 10+ of these already online.

I am leaning towards prototype rather than her being a bootleg, too, despite the dodgy quality of her paint and neck joint. Though, it wouldn't surprise me if Hasbro released her again. They released Nightmare Moon twice, after all.

I quite like the lighter hair, personally, but I'm not buying more ponies from Chinese Ebay sellers for a while

With that quantity of her floating around I think its possible she is a release. She looks like a cheaper version of the original release - single colour hair, one colour on the saddle. We have seen cheaper made versions of some ponies released already perhaps she is getting packaged up in another set? It is odd that there are so many but its certainly possible they were test runs only now hitting the market.

To save anyone reading this some time: she looks nothing like this (other?) rerelease:

That seller is also selling a NMM that looks slightly 'off':

I think they're just knock-offs.

That Nightmare Moon did look weird, but I couldn't put my finger on why. It's worth noting that this same seller has been selling large numbers of blind bag fakies, and (as far as I can find), they're the only seller with this new Chrysalis as of yet.

(I'm still gonna try to snag one, but I won't pay much if I can help it.)

Some of the same factories that make the ponies for Hasbro-  ALSO make a few more from the same molds (maybe using extra hair/parts/etc.) for the Chinese market.  Very common thing to do.  http://www.qualityinspection.org/china-factory-taobao/

That's what I think these ponies are- especially if there is a large number of them.

But I guess it could be a future release.

There are soooooo many of them on eBay right now, I'd be quite surprised if the prices didn't go down significantly. With any luck it'll be like when the market was flooded with glittery boutique Pinkie Pies and I got mine for a dollar :D

They look fake to me, kind of bad quality!

Gonna assume these are bootlegs. The quality of the airbrushed paint and rough neck plugs is the exact same as a Chinese G3.5 Starsong fakie I got in Euro General. That line of fakies seemed to try to exactly replicate already licensed MLP characters but the airbrushed paint and plastic were much more matte than a real MLP. That Chrysalis and Nightmare Moon both look like their plastic is much more matte than a real Hasbro figure.
