Title: ebay selling vent
Post by: miss on April 09, 2014, 01:53:58 PM
So here I am, putting lots of things on ebay, as i desperately need to get everything gone and fast... I just seem to have so many people messing me about... non payers, people arguing over postage, and people being very rude about shipping times, when i have clearly listed things with a 5 day dispatch time, as I can't get to the PO everyday. People asking for things to be sent unrecorded, after they have bought them (no way!) I just don't know how I can be any clearer about my listings, and how ebay works. if people don't like the postage, don't bid, if people don't like the 5 day dispatch, don't bid, and why don't people get postage and packing is postage and packing, not the price which is on the packet.... I wish the old ebay feedback system was in place.... then i could give them the natural or negative feedback they deserve...

Anyone got any hint or tips who sells regular? had no complaints (yet) about the items, just the post and dispatch....

Shipping ASAP is always good.  If you can't get to the PO every day, then you'll have to make that very clear in your listing.  Shoppers can be very impatient.  Also, try to keep shipping and handling costs down.  One good thing to do is to try to get second hand shipping supplies (get used boxes from stores, friends, and always save bubble wrap to reuse).

If you get NPB, then block them.  They are not worth your time.  If they don't pay by your deadline, too bad.  Ignore their sob stories.

I sold on ebay for about three months, but then I got scammed out of $40 by an overseas buyer who did a chargeback.  I appealed the charge, but I ended up losing my pony and my money. I don't have the patience or courage to deal with ebay again after that.  I can't go through my day with the constant fear that I could get scammed again at any moment and that there wouldn't be anything I could do about it since ebay always sides with the buyer.

Oh yes, I had someone leave me a neutral because apparently my 2 business day shipping policy was unacceptable because eBay estimated the item would be there in two days.    When they contacted me I explained that my listing did state I ship within two business days and eBay does not take that into account when estimating arrival times.

The kicker.... They bought the item at 11:00pm my time,  and had contacted me less then 24 hours later asking why the item hadn't shipped yet.  Apparently the post offices are open 24 hours.

My post office is actually open 24/7 with a machine for printing postage. Plus eBay does allow you to print labels online which is really handy.

I set my shipping to allow for 3 days although I usually ship within a day. I do this just in case something comes up and I cannot ship right away.

Ive just woken up to an abusive message, it was too early, and i replied with less than my normal yes ill do it attitude...

I've got shipping set to 5 days, you get a little warning from ebay when you do a bid...

my blocked list is massive! lol ill be adding some more after this :/

I wouldn't mind so much, but I don't want to sell any of it, its heart breaking to have to do, and people are being jerks about it.... my beautiful ponies are being ripped away from me and shipped around the world, ill never see them again. some could be opened and not stay mib, i have to not think about  it....

yes to the postage costs too, I've been keeping them as close to the sticker price as i can, and I've refunded plenty of people were its been wrong too.

Ive had some one try to scam me for £185 once, paypal ruled in my favour, they were trying to get a charge back from there credit card....

thanks for the tips all!

The bottom line is that a lot of people now are too lazy to read terms, too stupid to understand people have lives to lead, and too impatient to wait for anything

If it helps any we recently bought numerous items from you via the Arena and Ebay and found the despatch time, postage cost, and everything else most satisfactory  :worshippy:

I know what you mean sweetie and I'm sorry you've been messed about   I've been messed about more on ebay this year than I have in all of the other years of selling and buying on there put together! (and its only April!)
TBH If you are clear in your listings about how long its going to take, the only other thing you can do is message the buyer and make sure that they know what the shipping/handling time is as soon as they've made the purchase (incase they were too lazy to read the listing, at least you'll probably bget their attention with a message ;)  )
Block any of your own non paying bidders and  make sure your settings block other people who have been NPB's in the last month (thats what it is on ebay UK anyways).
And dont send without tracking - the person who bought the item can see its being sent with tracking - and thats how it will be sent - helps prevent scammers-
oh and dont listen to sob stories - some people will tell you anything to try and get an item on the cheap or to scam you out of money or to use delay tactics :(

As long as you have terms in your listings, if you have to call eBay for any reason or have a complaint about a buyer or if they complain or leave bad feedback, you can have it removed. Try not to be bothered by these people. They are just being spoiled. Our society has grown to be more and more this way with new technology. We have no patience. We are more rude as a society as a whole and we play the blame game. Just look at the U.S. presidents. They are always blaming the one before them for any problems.

Add the handling and supplies to the item price, not to the shipping :)
If you can't get to the PO , schedule free pick up online at usps.com for the packages :)  they will pick them up for free when the daily mail delivery comes to your door :)

It really is amazing how few people actually seem to read listings and the terms they are "agreeing" to! Perhaps you can mention the 5 day handling time at the very top of the listing so they can't ignore it as easily.

I can relate to the postage cost issue. I got tired of people deciding what postage "should" cost and penalizing me for it, when I was charging actual postage costs. If you are able to calculate the postage costs ahead of time you can add them to your item price and offer "free" shipping. This way you get an automatic 5 stars on your DSRs if they leave feedback. It is a hassle but can cut back on the haggling over postage costs. It can potentially bring up issues though if someone asks why same item X sold for Y amount and yours is listed for Z amount (completely ignoring the fact that shipping is free). There are pros and cons both ways.

The other option, like HoustonCollector72 pointed out is to add handling/packing fee to the item cost and just list exact shipping charges in the shipping area.

Oh, miss, I feel your pain on the shipping period. While you can print postage off online and some post offices are open later, sometimes its just not always possible to get to the post office in that 48 hour window. I have 5 days shipping on all my auctions but after too many problems with unreasonable shipping expectations, I only seldom sell on ebay now. I think the thing that baffles me is, I honestly cant imagine even bothering to contact a seller until we are a good week plus after the payment [if I would even contact them...unless it got to the ridiculous]. Shipping is just something people have to be [but unfortunately are not] patient about.

I put 5 day handling too, i put it in all my listings to oand i had one buyer go CraZY cuz i hadnt changed it in the actual ebay terms, it was my mistake but they were horrible about it, i even included something for free and they still dinged my stars, i gotta call ebay and see what they can do, prolly not enough but sometimes if they leave false positives you can get it removed which is what they did to me

At least they left positive. But some people will never be pleased no matter what you do.

I've had a horrible seller leave "positive" before because it was the only option but she absolutely cursed me out and called me all sorts of horrible names because she wouldn't honor her claim to combine shipping.  It was absolutely awful.  She even posted my personal information such as email and first/last name on the comment.  Ugh - NIGHT MARE.  She even created a second profile to harass me because I had her first one blocked.  Terrible terrible seller.  [non-pony items]

Anyway, ebay was super helpful and promptly deleted my comments and froze her account.  Never ever again!  Oh she was terrible.  ><
