Title: Winter sun fading vs summer...
Post by: slj84 on March 30, 2014, 09:36:18 AM
I have a cheif who is perfect except his head and body are two different shades.

Right now in ohio we still have some really cold weather and our sun isn't all that hot.  I want to stick him in the window just to try, but then again it's chief, being a fairly sought after big brother with no age spots I don't want to fry him either..

I've never had a pony burn in the winter sun here, but has anyone else?

I think it still works, it just takes much, much longer to have results.  I have to bring in all my projects during winter as we don't have good windows for it, and I don't want to lose them under the snow...

Now I wonder because it takes longer, if those ponies prone to burning could be put out in the less intense sun?

I would be afraid that he still might burn. Even though he doesn't have spots I wouldn't risk it, imo.

His tendency to develop age marks would scare me in any sunlight unfortunately. But if you are brave then, I do think a sunlight which has a lower UV intensity is a better idea. So perhaps testing him in winter sunlight is the best idea. Good luck whichever way you go!

Okay update!  I decided to put him out on days that were sunny but not full blown full sun.  I rotated sides daily.

Here is my cheif before

He makes chief #4 for me :p he was my only boy when I was little so now I cant say no to him.  Not bad for a $10 eBay find!
