What's your fave gen to collect, and why not pop a comment below telling us why you prefer that Gen to others? My favourite Gen is G1 I just love everything about them, especially their sweetly painted faces and poses, and I think a respect for their age as well makes them more precious to me ^_^

G1 for me! When I run out of "normal" ponies to collect, there's always variants and merch. I love the thrill of the hunt - it's so much more satisfying to stalk ebay and the boards and private sales and the flea market for things I want than it is to go to Walmart and buy it off the shelf.

I love G1 and G3 pretty equally, but I voted for G1. They're the toys I grew up playing with. However, G3 is pretty awesome. I actually own more of those ponies now.

G1 for me , even if I have to admit I love the G4 Pegasus and unicorns as well as the FS . ^.^

Voted G3. Their designs are overall the most beautiful to me and they have such a HUGE variety! They're a cute size as well, especially the babies! My only gripe is the huge lack of unicorns, pegasus and boy ponies :( It would be the perfect gen if they had a few more of those thrown in!

I choose G1, but I love G2 almost as much. I grew up with these two generations and I also think they have the best designs and color combos.

I grew up with G1, I will grow old with G1.
They make me happy and bring back lots of great memories. :)

G1 because it's what I grew up with. Old school all the way. Though I did collect G3s when they where new. G2 hit when I was in high school, so I ignored them. Not on purpose. If I ever ran out of the other gens to collect, I'd start in on them.

G1! I grew up with them and they were my favorite toys. Brings back a lot of good memories and I love the size, look, and diversity of G1 :)
G3 comes very close though. So many beautiful and cute ponies and they were what got me back into collecting :) I only wish there were more unicorns in G3 :P

I picked G4.
Their small size comes at an advantage, as I don't have a lot of space on my desk. Another advantage is that because they are currently being released, I can keep up with what is coming out fairly easily (out of all the ponies out right now, I am only missing 12 out of 60 including what is yet to be released.)

I love collecting G1 and G2 equally but G2 is funnier because they are harder to find. I like a challenge ;)

G4. I like being able to buy the toys new, from a physical store, and it is fun to watch for news of new stuff, taobao findings, etc. I also like that they are small and I like their aesthetic.

I collect in phases. Right now I'm primarily on a G1 kick and am having fun hunting down who's left on my list. I used to be a pretty hardcore G3 collector, but I quit collecting as the Core 7 came out and I'm still trying to get my checklist reorganized so I know who all I need to actually finish the G3s (that, and that most of the G3s remaining on my list are not common...). My goal right now is to stay on top of new G4 releases and super good deals on who I missed before I started collecting them, but I'm not really concentrating too hard on them at this time. G2s always excite me when I find good deals on them, but I haven't actively hunted any of them before.

G1 - I grew up with them so to me they are what MLP is all about. I have collected the others at various stages and have ended up selling most apart from my G3 collector ponies they just aren't the same for me or have the same charm.

I went for G1 but I have more G3 just because they are less expensive and easier to find.

I'll pick up any pony I see but, I prefer G1.

I collect G1, G3 and G4 ponies. I like to collect the G1 ponies that I like. I don't collect them all cause there are some poses that I don't really find cute. That is the same for G3 ponies to. I like to keep most of mine NIB so that limits when I can buy. They are so over priced right now if NIB. And I also like to buy NIB G4 ponies to.
I have to say there is not one generation that I like more then others.

G1. I love their overall design the best - pastel shades, stumpy little legs, chunky heads, soft welcoming look in their eyes, the tiny smile. And the variety! So many different colours, poses, styles, gimmicks and gadgets! They range from really simple to rather complex, and each and every one of them looks friendly and welcoming, no matter what condition they're in (well, maybe I would make an exception for BBEs...). I just adore my little collection and I know I would trade out my 200-odd G4s in favour of keeping my 20-odd G1s any day.

I said I love all the Gens equally! As long as it is a pony, I want to collect it :P
That being said, I'm on a big G1 kick right now since I started collecting them kind of recently (6 months or so ago) and I really want to expand my little herd. Right now I have 9 G1 ponies, and I adore them. So much variety!
G3 is fabulous, too, though, since that is what I grew up with and I get major nostalgia whenever I find one! I normally get my G3 girls at the thrift store, but my dad got me some on ebay for Christmas. I :heart: my G3 herd!! I even like G3.5, but not as much as regular G3.
G4 is really fun for me, too. I really love how the ponies have kind of an anime-esque look, because I really like anime a lot. It is also fun to buy them in stores, and I like the show a whole lot.
The only Gen I don't have right now is G2, but I think they are gorgeous and Silver Swirl is a major grail pony for me. I hope to have some G2s really soon!

Honestly, I think all the gens are charming, but G3s are a personal favorite of mine. The first time I held one at a second-hand store, I just melted. They just really clicked with me. On the other hand G1s are just classic and have an air of purity to them. I would probably be more into G1 collecting if more were available near me...

I grew up with G1 so G1 for me but I do collect G4 as well but G1 is my ultimate favorite so many different designs!!!

I collect mostly G3s so I put that, they are (as well as G1) my favorite gen. G3s just are easier to find in good condition. The G1s I do have are my childhood ponies, except for a few I bought as an adult. The poor things had it rough tho :( I don't actively look for G1s but I'd never turn down a boy pony :D I want more! Haha I only have two.

While I grew up with G3s and love them a lot, I have nearly all of the ones I want and am nearing the end of my want list so it's starting to come to a close for me. So my favourite to collect is G1. They're all older than I am and I had to hunt down and pay collector's price for almost every singe one. And restore most of them. So while my childhood G3s mean the world to me, I'm darned proud of my G1 collection and they're my favourite to collect because I have to work for them! :lol:

I picked G1 as that is the Gen I am most focused on. And that's also because I am completing sets that were started as a child and brought me the most memories and smiles. I also have some from all the other Gens, but my G2's are "complete" because I only wanted the the First year ones. I have G3's but mostly Dollar Store Exclusives, and I collect G4 because I liked them. I don't have a lot and I do like how their small size allows for more room.

G2 is my love. I love their designs and artwork, their body shapes are so pretty. I love the variety of colours and symbols. I grew up with the G2 computer game and it stuck with me ever since so I knew I had to collect them again.
They're also smaller than G1 and there's less overall so they take up less space on my very limited shelving

This is a tough question. I adore collecting G1 and finally bringing Ponies into the herd that I wanted for years. On the other hand, G3 and G4 are great because I can still buy them new for reasonable prices. I love to buy in-box and then be the first to open the boxes. It's very nice to not have to wonder what a Pony has been into before I got hold of it. ;) And I love G2 also and hope to bring some of those Ponies in eventually.

Had to pick G1, the gen I grew up with is still my fave, although I collect everything but 3.5.

Picked G1 for the simple reason that's what Clare already had so I'm just adding to it really ;)
As a 'newbie' to pony collecting I find G1 the most appealing, closely followed by G3. We also collect G4 but probably wouldn't have done if it wasn't for the excellent (although hard to come by on UK TV!) FiM cartoons.
G2 to my untrained eye look more like llamas than ponies (sorry G2 fans :unsure: )
Each to their own in the end though - it's all MLP goodness :)

I love every generation, because they all are soo unique and I always find something I like <3 But G1 will always be my absolute favourite and before selling any G1 I would happily give all the others away.

I love G1 because I get massive nostalgic flashbacks when I see them, but I came to love G3 almost equally. G4 used to be in G3's place but I have grown tired of it. I still like to look at what comes out next and I like to discuss the cartoon and the toys, but I no longer feel "fanish" about it.
The G3s are currently taking over as they are easier to hunt down than G1s and cheaper. So I'd say G3 is currently my favorite.

Love them all but G2 I'm crazy about , G4 is now my second favorite, used to be my main one, until I jumped into G2s , G3 is next and G1 last, their prices and problems of condition like cancer and deep cleaning needs turns me off to them, but I have picked some here and there , the last 2 I added have cancer :(.
so i'm on the fence very much on them. and g2's are taking all the resources so far :) and having tons of fun finding them.

I love the G3,5. They're like a crash between anime and ponies. I especially love NC, merponies and any variant of RD and Starsong :heart:
But my heart belongs to G2. Gotta catch them all!

I only collect G1 Nirvana Ponies and a while back I decided to only collect the very rare ones of them and selling off my semi-rare ones:-)

G1 had the greatest variety by far. It's not surprising since it had the longest run of any line. I collect all generations(yes, I even have a few G3.5s), and G1 is the most interesting to collect. I like the G1s for their variety, the nostalgia factor, and a host of other reasons. G2s have some of the most creative accessories of any of the generations, and you get some crazy color combinations that no other generation has seen before. G3s had some beautiful ponies, great accessories(scooters!), and the holiday ponies totally rocked. The G3.5 had some interesting accessories, particularly for the newborns. The G4s started strong with decent variety, and I love the size of the brushables.

G1 - just one look at their stunning packaging art, the production quality, their concepts, the diversity and you could totally see the difference.

G1 and G4. I like them both but I voted G1 for variety.

I like the sheer variety of early G3s, but it makes me smile so much to pick up a new G4 character that I don't own yet! Crossing my fingers that they keep adding new characters in addition to the Mane Six. :)

I love them all except not so much this newest ones!
I am collecting every generation and have noticed that am getting bored if have running buying from the same generation. Collecting remains it refreshing for me when I varying my orientation between the generations and merchandise. :D

I don't have a preference, I love anything My Little Pony. I believe I have ponies from every generation except for G2, and that's just because I havn't found one when I have been yardselling or thrifting!

G1. They're the ones I grew up playing with, the ones that were in the cartoons I watched, the ones with the greatest variety. They are the original My Little Ponies! :biggrin:

G2! :blush: They were my childhood generation, and even though I only have one she was my very first and therefore my most special pony. I'm getting some more soon, and I'm so excited--they really epitomize MLP for me.

G1 here as well - though I am building my G3 collection as well. I think G3 was really in the spirit of the original ponies in how much variety there was, as opposed to the pattern that began with the end of that line of repeat, repeat, repeat!

I collect all 4 "major" gens (so no 3.5/Ponyville), and my preference varies a lot depending on my mood and whims. At the moment, I'm kind of on a G1 kick, so that's where my vote went. :)

I went with G1 - my ponies are 99% nostalgia items, so in a way I'm not even a true collector, I suppose!
