Title: Pony-related injuries?
Post by: LuckyTwirlerina on March 18, 2014, 02:39:52 PM
Have you ever gotten injured because of a pony?

I have a scar on the web between my thumb and first finger from stabbing myself with scissors while trying to take off a pony's head. I've also made myself sick drinking nearly 2 litres of iced tea so I could use the plastic bottle to make new wings for my flutters. -_-

Share your stories about hurting yourself dealing with your ponies! :P

I have got a lovely big scuff on my thumb knuckle and damaged nails from trying to get the metal grip off Snookums' and Tutti Frutti's tails today while de tailrusting them

I'm a customizer! I have lots of pony scars! The worst is probably the one on my thumb where I sliced it open with an exacto knife. Though the worst injury was probably when I was running to get one out of the oven after I'd forgotten about it. I slide on a blanket and crashed into the kitchen table and nearly killed myself!

I put a deep gash in my thumb about a month ago courtesy of an X-Acto knife while trying to remove a bait Majesty's thick neck ring.  When I finally stopped the bleeding, I was so frustrated with her that I sliced the neck ring clean off and didn't bother trying to save it.

I've pricked myself with x-acto knives multiple times while slicing off pony heads (that just sounds wrong) and cutting clay.

I nearly poked my eye out with the scissors when I was trying to cut the end off a needle for me rehearing tool. the scissors slipped off the end and flew up with out the needle snapping either I may add.

lesson learned do not be lazy to walk down stairs to get the cutters from the garage  :lookround:

Worst I've done is aggravate my back and wrist issues from hunching over working on detailed painting.

Tengentially pony related but while weaving my G4 princess banjo straps I stayed in a studio with a big industrial fan. I ran into it and now I have an inch and a half scar on my shoulder from the grate slicing in.

I once bopped myself in the nose while trying to get a very stubborn  pony head off the body of said pony.

I've cut and burnt myself many times... and I don't even customize!

I've burnt myself pouring boiling water over a few ponies. Amazingly I haven't cut or stabbed myself over a pony yet, just over all my other projects lol

I feel redundant saying the same thing: burns from boiling water and ex-acto knife gash to the left hand, just like everyone else ;)  It must be a Mark of the Pony Customizer (MPC? heh).  I wish I could think of one like the iced tea story.  That's my favorite.

Wait, maybe it's good I don't have one that interesting that comes to mind.  I'm not about to go looking for one anytime soon either, but it will come.  And when it does, I will drag myself to my laptop to report.

I have a pretty big scar on my left hand from cutting a G3's neck with a pocket knife. It looked really nasty and needed 6 stiches.

I nearly made myself sick off of acetone fumes because I didn't know how powerful the fumes were and took off the paint off of a fakie in our little bathroom

I currently have a scab healing on my index finger on my left hand. I obtained it after trying to pry off a Buddy L pony's head with a butter knife. Yep, the somewhat blunt edge of a serrated butter knife sliced about 1/4 cm into my finger, because I wasn't being careful! :( If it were a sharp knife it would have been a much cleaner cut!

Not sure if this one counts, because it relates more to my lack of shelf building prowess, but I built an Ikea Expedit in my room beside my bed to display my G1 playsets (Lullaby Nursery and Show Stable, to be exact) and there were also several boxed ponies up there. Luckily, that's all I had put up that night, because the shelf fell apart onto me while I slept :lmao:
No real injuries, other than a few big bruises and some cuts from the shelf pieces.

I find it more hilarious that I decided it was a good idea to KEEP that very shelf, and it now holds WAY more, but hasn't broken again.

I'm slightly terrified for you after reading that! xD I hope the shelf holds! A friend of mine had something very similar happen that ended in her needing stitches on her hand. Her shelf held a snowglobe!

As for me, I have a lovely V-shaped mark on my right hand from burning myself with the tip of the iron, trying to de-frizz my childhood Flower Dream's hair. It was about 2 years ago and the scar is thankfully fading, but still has a bit to go!

When my room and all the guest rooms were taken one night I had to sleep in the pony room. There is a day bed underneath a couple of wall mounted pony shelves. In the middle of the night the shelf, accompanied by 2 Dream Castles and numerous ponies not to mention a heavy wooden shelf fell off the wall and on my head. I had a bump for about 2 weeks afterwards and a little scar just at my hair line because of it. Its my pony war wound.

I'm so glad I have no shelves above my bed after reading these! :scared:
I was in the middle of deboxing my Princess Cadance and Applejack brushables last year in the kitchen, when my phone rang in the other room. After I answered it, I ran back into the kitchen to finish deboxing, but didn't realise my mum had been in and left the cupboard open, so I smacked my head on the cupboard door xD I had a huge tender lump for a few days lol!

Edit - I was saying to my mum earlier about how I'm severly lacking shelf space to display my ponies and she suggested another shelf above my bed - no way!!

Oh, all the usual customizing injuries, plus chemical burns from Jasco while deflocking, severe sunburn from digging through bins at the outdoor flea market, puncture wounds from sewing needles, hands and nails turned strange colors while dying, etc.  The usual.  ;)

I twisted my ankle because while sledding, the CMC fell out of my bag and I jumped off and yelled "OH GOD I'LL SAVE YOU!"
So painful. -_- Yet still, I do not regret it.

Not too long ago when I was rehairing a Perfume Puff-style Pony Bride, I sliced my thumb on a pair of scissors. It was my fault- I was being extremely careless. I thought it was just a tiny scratch and at first I didn't even know I needed a band aid. No, that information didn't even cross my mind until I realized that I was getting blood on the pony. :whoa: That was a bit of a shock. (Note: The pony is clean. )

I don't have any customizing injuries since I don't do customs  :P  but I have been thonked on the head by a falling pony. Whilst I was re-organizing my shelves, my G3 Good Morning Sunshine interactive plushie fell on me head first, that HURT  :dizzy:  well at least it wasn't  my G3 Walking Talking Pinkie, she's huge and would probably kill me if she fell on me

I have sustained minor cuts on multiple occasions from getting over-excited while opening pony mail. Once I accidentally scratched my knuckles with my own fingernails and drew blood.

Also had a near miss when my hair straightener caught fire due to wet pony hair.

Moving shelving units around in the pony room last week, I forgot my BAB ponies were on top of one and they all fell on me. Not too bad, you think. Only Pinkie was wearing BAB roller skates. Those things are HARD!  I've still got a sore spot on my head a week later.

I tried to remove that rusty thing which is middle of the tail, not that round thing. Wasn't careful enough with screwdriver and it slipped underneath my thumb nail.

That thing drives me MAD! My pliers wouldn't prise it open so I had to use my nails and totally ruined them. I can't get Secret Tale's off at all!

You need a set of pliers. Unfortunately you do normally have to destroy the clasp. You need to press the clasp flat in one direction and then at the fold press it flat in the other direction. Repeat that several times. Eventually the metal will simply break and allow you to get it off.

I've been high as a kite on acetone and this horrible sticky stuff remover while deflocking a Lofty. I've also burned myself in hot water - I soak grubby ponies in the bath in hot water and before I get them out I add some cold so I don't burn myself but I forgot to do that part that day.

Haven't really had any proper injuries yet, but I've gotten prickly-feeling eyes from having my face too close to acetone and superglue fumes, and have also superglued my fingers plenty of times (nearly every time I use superglue, actually).

Oooooh! I did that! While deflocking I was using paint stripper without a mask and I was seriously on a different planet for about an hour afterwards. I remember skipping around the house with Twist and making neighing noises...ok so I dont remember too much of that but my mum says thats what I was doing and she was too busy laughing at my stupidity to either take me to the hospital or simply try and calm me down.

I don't know why, but I don't seem to get high on the acetone fumes, at all... I get a little cranky sometimes, but that's usually just that little niggly headache I get sometimes afterwards if I did a whole pile of ponies...

Hahaha, it's probably just as well I get the prickly-eyes feeling before anything else. Stops me from staying near the fumes long enough for that to happen!

Whilst removing a pony head with an exacto knife (think it was Sundance) I cut my left index finger (non-palm side). I have a quarter inch long scar.
When rehairing a super plasticizer leaked hard as a rock te skyrocket I shoved a needle head into my left ring finger right below the top crease. don't know how I did it. All I know is it hurt and went more than half way through my finger. I have a permenent red dot on my palm-side it's like scar tissue...
Then there's the countless times of burning fingers with a curling iron.
