Title: Show me your Breyer Collection!
Post by: achab1984 on November 17, 2013, 11:11:41 AM
I would love to see others Breyer Horse collections. I had a very big collection when I was younger then sold them all off when I moved out of my parents house. I started to re collect and got to almost 300 and then old them off cause I needed to. Now I only have 6 breyers!  I am getting one in the mail this week and I am kind of excited to get the New Breyer smell again!!!

Please share with us all :)  I will take a picture later this week when I get the one :)

I'll snap a pic of my small herd later. Used to have a lot more as a child but they were very well played with, I have bought a few off ebay to replace the ones I had.

When Photobucket isn't being a complete booger I'll organize some pix of my herd!

I collected them back in the late 90's, but sold them all when I went off to college (needed the money). I kept two for sentimental value, though! This is the best pic I've got of them at the moment:

I'm not an active collector (in my opinion, why spend money on collectibles instead of art supplies?) but I do have a few that I've collected over the years. My Traditionals are Hidalgo, Pat Parelli's Casper, and Moonbeam; I have a Classic that I think is Rex; and I also have some random stablemate horses and three of the dogs.
Edit: What the heck, I'll post a picture now. It's a bit dark, but it'll do. By the way, I have no idea what happened to Rex, I think he may be in my closet.

Beautiful models, everyone! Photobucket is still acting cranky so I'm going to have to just link it. Sorry for the cruddy lighting; recent storms mean no sunshine here!

Aaand it linked to a slide show instead. Whatever, PB.  Say, anyone else here ever travel to BreyerFest? 2014 will be the 25th anniversary and I'm kinda stoked about it! It will be my 19th 'Fest.

Welllll I don't really collect Breyers anymore, but I do have a good amount of them. My NIB guys still live with my mom till I have a place to put them.

These cabinets are by our laundry room and there are the pretty etched ones but also just plain ones on the side. The top up there where there is a little railing. We are buying a storage shed around Christmas and those boxes will be gone. All my NIB horses will go around the railing, sorry it's a bit messy there laundry stuff is in that area where I fold.

This is my china cabinet in my craft room

I actually love Peter Stones and have been collecting a small herd of weanlings...but my new dangerous obsession is resins and micro pewters. I adore them and they might have taken over my love for ponies. >_>

Now behold my obsession hidden in the lower cabinets of the china cabinet. Actually I just started collecting them this year and most are still blank and need paint. >_<

They're the ones that came with the Delivery Wagon, and they weren't easy to track down.  I finally had to resort to buying the whole set off eBay (I usually wait to find things at Breyerfest).  The shire is easily my favorite Classic mold.  :D

I loved Breyers as a kid, but I was more of a Grand Champions kid.

I always wanted Breyers but I too had GC's, cheaper alternative, lol - I actually never had a single Breyer. I found ONE once at a Flea Market for $2, and found it a better home but, every time I see them at flea markets, most of them are $10+

Are there any good sites where a newbie could learn what kind of things to look for at second hand places?

I don't know a good overall place to look but just for model horses identify your Breyer is goo to figure out which one is which. Model horse sale pages and Blab are good sources to help with prices.

Other stuff I dunno! My wife is a member of a local flea market group that discusses items. Might look for one of those.

Thanks for the info.  I was afraid you were going to tell me they were from the wagon set.  Oh well, I'll keep looking.

We've been to Breyerfest almost every year since 1998 - we missed two I think.  I am bummed Breyerfest is the same weekend as the Pony Fair next year.  We are trying to work out a way to get to Breyerfest at least on Friday and then on to the Pony Fair for Saturday and Sunday.  I hope it works out!

Avene1984, I was admiring that one on the Breyer website earlier!  He is soooo gorgeous.  He'll be joining my herd soon, I should think  ;)

I don't have any pictures of my guys, but they are my prized possessions.  I'm not sure how many I have, but they have taken over my bedroom and have filled several book cases.  I've never been to Breyerfest, but I go to the occasional live show when I can get work off.  All the shows in my area are on Saturdays, and that is the day when I work (I'm in school during the week), so I'm on hiatus right now.  Next year when I'm at college I won't have that job any more, so maybe I'll be able to start again.  Don't get me wrong, I adore my job!  I wish I could keep it next year, but logistically it would be a pain in the rear.  Performance classes are my specialty, but I did get reserve champion in the entire Original Finish halter division at my last show with a Stablemate I had bought for about $5.

My mother has an enormous collection of Breyers, many of which are MIB and special runs. She has made vague noises of selling them off one day and hope that if she ever does I at least get first pick through them. :p

Much to my chagrin, Breyers were what made me give away my childhood MLP collection when I was a pre-teen. I foolishly decided I should only collect realistic horses and ponies and packed my ponies. >_<
Title: Re: Show me your Breyer Collection!
Post by: achab1984 on November 20, 2013, 09:12:39 AM
I did the same things also and I was not even a teen. I collected Breyers, moved out and had a daughter. Sold off all of my Breyer when the ponies came out in 2003. I collected till 2008 and sold off all of my ponies and bought Breyers again. And now I am back into ponies and sold off all my Breyers but 6.  I wish that I would not do this! But I guess I do it cause I don't like to have a lot of things around me. I am starting to get over whelmed by my ponies. That is why I have some for sale. So it does not seem so overwhelming.

I also wanted to go to BF, but I've never been. I'll go someday.

I don't like a lot of clutter either, so once the guys start clogging the space they are given I sell stuff. I'm not buying new shelving ect for more ponies or Breyers. They either fit or leave. If I have them organized and packed away on shelves it doesn't bother me.

I am the same way, I have six right now and I am very happy. I have been wanting to get back some of the ones that I have had before. But I have bought some of them three and four times. I really don't think that I need to buy them again. I am just going to enjoy looking at pictures of them. :)

Maybe just pick the ones you really like and buy a few back. I have a hard time selling them. I grew up in a horse an cattle farm. I've always had a horse and the horse bug. @.@ my grandma bought my first Breyer when I was six. I know when I went through my models I had 300 something Breyers and about 100 GC. I guess it could be a lot more but for a childhood collection that's kinda big I think.

I'll blame my family! We found a Breyer dealer that was also my mom's friend. They just exploded everywhere.

I can't remember when I started to get into Breyer horses. I want to say the early 1990's. My collection peaked somewhere between 200-300 horses before I started to downsize. I can't even remember who my first model was. Since my herd reduction I collected on and off for many years. Recently I sold off what I had remaining except for 4 of my traditional sized models and a bunch of stablemates which I still collect since they are easy to display and cheap.

I would take a pic but they are in storage except for my NIB Esprit who sits on top of my dresser and a Stablemate I recently acquired from a lovely trade partner here on the arena :)

Oh yes they have, back in 1995 they were about $20 to $25 each. And the SR and LE horses were $30 to $35 at the most. And the foals were any were from $12 to $15 each. Some were even $10 if you bought them from a big Breyer dealer.  It sure has changed a lot!

These are my 2 newest acquirements.  I found them at Meijer in Big Rapids, MI, 4 hours from here.  I was on my way home this past weekend from Grand Rapids where I saw the We the Kings concert.  I'm having a lot of trouble finding Breyers in my area lately.  I know these 2 are not the expensive kind, but I still find them very beautiful.  :)

I'm going to Breyerfest so maybe I'll see some of you around. I'm probably going to be at my friend's book signing there.
