Boy oh boy, have I got myself into a hole with them too!
I have a copy of the list that has the bag numbers, and have marked the ones I have got at this time, but really struggle to read the numbers on the actual bags >< Doesn't help that a) I have really bad eyesight, and b) the numbers are printed onto the crinkly part of the bag!
I cannot read them at all, and have resorted to making myself look really suspicious in every toy shop in a 20 mile radius, standing there, feeling the bags very carefully, looking at the pictures, felling them again and then checking my list. I can FEEL the shop security guards watching me and muttering "What is she doing??"
Anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?

I totally look silly in the store doing this. I suggest bringing an accomplice to help you look at the numbers and decide what to get. Bringing a list and an extra person really speeds up the process.
Also, if you try and buy most of them from the same store, same box, it is easier to find all different ones, since they generally have one of each pony in each box.
-
Bring a big ole magnifying glass! Then they will just think you are crazy instead of nefarious.
I think the blind bag ponies are a very very very frequently stolen item which is why store people keep a close eye on those looking at them. I find it slightly cheaper and easier just to buy the whole box...
-
I don't look at the codes, I just buy whichever one I pick up. This is partially because the surprise element is fun, and partially because I am worried people will think I'm stealing them if I hang around by them too long.
-
Yeah, the detail all those code lists leave out is that the bags are not very easy to read.
-
I agree with BrightIdea! I always bring an accomplice to help check bags! Sometimes I go with a friend and we both have lists!
-
Haha, I know that feeling. If anyone looks at me funny, I politely explain what I'm doing. If they're looking to buy too, I offer to share my list with them. The store employees generally either look impressed or relieved that I'm not ripping them open, and once I made a little girl very happy by finding her a Rainbow Dash!

I've gotten some funny looks too, but no one has said anything to me.

list???? what list??!?!?

I only wanted the Spitfire from one of the waves so the lists were really helpful. I was tricked by a decoy code into getting a Rainbow Dash though. XD That accident was potentially very dangerous to my money as after seeing it in person I actually like the Rainbow Dash and started wondering if I might want more than Spitfire after all.
Here's the list with pictures I used ponylover: http://www.strawberryreef.com/Index/G4/IndexBB.html

I have a Twilight Sparkle with her card if you want her.

thank you!!! I've printed it off to help me pick through them, and this will make it easier!

I try to buy entire boxes so I don't have to stand there and check the numbers, but on occasion when I can't find a full box, I stand there with the numbers and my phone and try to make it obvious what I'm doing. I usually have a handwritten piece of paper with the numbers I need on it so my boyfriend can help me too, which I think makes us look less suspicious, lol.
-
LOL - you can feel a bit odd and obvious going standing and squinting to read the packets. If anyone looks at me though I have been collecting too long to do anything other than smile politely and keep on digging and squinting to try and find the code :P
-
Yeah, I've gotten some odd looks before too. But I figure if they ask and I can tell them I'm looking at codes and they should be happy I'm not one of those people that rip all the bags open. =)
-
I would probably just ask someone else to read out the code for me ;)
-
totally , I now just order the whole box from the Hasbro site and sell the ones I don't want, but the codes are sure hard to read, I have had my share of opening some of them and have gotten a double :( which you can still sell open though :)
if you are in the US is super cheaper to just buy the box from the website :)

There's also a MLP Blind Bag ID app for Android, if you can use it!
