two granny cabinets done and filled now
for the love of mlp's i did something my husband is going to go through the roof when he finds out.
so the story goes..... about three weeks ago i bought 2 cabinets for my ponies that have been in box's (some on and of) for years some up to about 14years when i first started collecting as an adult.
here is a before pic

i was so happy with the out come of this but alas i still had a lot left in boxes and also my playsets and other gens. were in boxes too. i mentioned i would love 2 more cabinets but my husband wasn't happy as we only rent a small 2 bedroom house and i have a special corner in our very clean, dry, carpeted, bug free garage .................this week i bought 4 more :yikes: now you can hide ponies but you can't hide furniture.
i could not help myself they were a bargain.
so here is 2 of the four that have arrived home with me already
before i paint them. painting is my other interest but this is going to be a lot of work involved :shocked:

i had some great advise as to find another hobby, get involved with something else for a while, well this will sure do, that is for sure :lol:
i thought i would share this with those who would be interested in a "work in progress pony display"
in the mean time i better pop out and grab a bottle of scotch for hubby :lol: :P ........... :soda: ...........and then show him what is in the garage

You have a very lovely collection, and displays are so nice, my ponies (with the exception of a few that are taking over the scrapbook room) are all in tubs in the guest room bedroom closet. Hoping to be able to buy shelves sometime soon and get the out.

Now you see, hubby... There are four generations of MLP... So of course shabbychic needs at least four display cabinets. It makes sense, really, when you think about it. :P

I love what you done with the first ones, but Im a wood fan too so I would have trouble with painting the new ones! But your amazing! And a wonderful collection too! Im always looking for amazing deals for my collection too, you have inspired me to work on mine this weekend lol.
Please tell us how your Hubby reacts! I can't wait to hear how you buttered him up to the idea! :cool:

me too but they are mostly veneer and or slightly damaged like water stained and scatching and peeling of the vanish so they will also get a sanding, ick i hate sanding but i only use acrylic paint not enamel paint so it will need to stick.
well i was trying to butter him up last night while my son was out trick or treating and then he came home and i forgot XD then this morning i got a call down the hallway like "what is this" and i was like ha ha ha ha ummm :whistle: and i explained and he said NO MORE NO MORE :shakefist:

I absolutely adore how you do your displays, they are always so creative and so attractive. And they look so professional and finished :)
I am pleased hubby accepted the new ones lol! Cant wait to see the new pictures.

These are gorgeous, I second what hathorcat says, your displays are incredibly professional and amazing! I actually took a couple of ideas from the way you display your G4's when i was trying to explain to my boyfriend how i wanted the shelves he's making me to look :P

Your display does look nice so far! I think my husband would die if I put my whole collection on display - although I have told him that whenever we decide to purchase a house, we need to have a pony room (but with four daughters, that might have to wait until they are all in college, lol).

omg four daughters.............................thats awesome, fill the house with mlp's :biggrin: however not looking forward to when they are teenagers :yikes:
i have given up waiting for a bigger house, it could be years and years who knows, the last three house we have lived in have gotten smaller.
my hubby is in a bad mood today but i have had enough having these things tucked away. however he is warming up slowly ^.^ to the idea.

i have been doing it for years, i even did it as a trade, building and painting sets and props for theater and short films.
just google everything, its all out there how to treat what kind of furniture. i cheat and use cheep non hard wearing affordable paints/large test pots cos its only going on display only pieces :)

right i have some pics of what i did yesterday. it was a nightmare fitting in the glass shelves and doors in and then after my hubby and i finished i noticed we had the door around the wrong way :blink:
anyways these photos do not do it justice, i could not get any decent pics out of my cheep camera.
its such a shame this cabinet doesn't have legs, it would look so much better

hubby still not pleased but now wants to steal one of the cabinets, so will do to make him happy.
these pics are terrible, tis is way better in real life, will have to try and get better photos tomorrow

it looks like it from a lunch bar/bakery :lol: even husband mentioned "it looks like there should be cakes in it" :lol: he's right it does
the set up is a bit random but so are the gaps between the shelves, very tight so much's whats in between

I'm lucky in that my husband's weakness is firearms. So for the 1 rifle he's bought recently, I can justify a WHOLE LOT of pony purchases! Best of luck, and the collection looks great!

I simply adore that setup! I have my ponies (well, some of them :) ) in an old VCR entertainment unit and like how they're all behind glass but the thing is black, so not very pretty to look at. I think I will follow your lead and paint it white! :) thank you for a wonderful idea!

one for the cabinets, the one i said my husband can have was $5, to make him feel better, he has turned into a entertainment unit, the other were $15 ($11usd)each, so so much fun hunting and collecting for :D
a little of topic.....my hubby's cabinet/entertainment unit he stole of me (exactly like the one pictured above, top) he popped out the back, slid the mirror out, painted it, white inside, pale green on the outside (retro colours) jigsawed circles out of the backing board for the ps3, blu-ray, harddrive etc plug's to fit through, put the glass shelves back in, glass door etc and voila a tv cabinet
9with tv on top of course) and if and when i need it back i just fit in the mirror backing and then its a display pony cabinet again just like that :smug:
btw yay i have finished another will post pics tomorrow morning, right now my hands are aching :sleepy:

here is (a little kind of off topic) the cabinet my hubby stole of me, would make a great pony display but only has one door and it is great now having them dust freeeeeeeeeeeee wahoo :lol:

you can't tell by the photo but its a slight of greeny/duck egg blueish on the outside and slightly scuff with a shabby look, he is going to change it to look more old worldly as we love that kind of stuff and have that looking going on here.
this is going to be very interesting to see but he is very creative so i do trust him.
here is the next one for me to do when i get my energy back, my wrists and hands are a lot better today but i don't want to over do it. :lol:

Everything looks fantastic! I'm not sure how I missed this thread before, but glad I caught it. Cleaning up bargain finds is so rewarding, and filling them with ponies is even better :biggrin:

sorry these pics don't do it justice but here is a 180 view and yay everything G1 (well almost) is out.

now i am extremely paranoid about fading, as everything is all out of direct sunlight and there are blinds up as you can see the room its self can be quite bright and i am pretty sure some certain pink hair ponies have faded some what :scared:

Fabulous! Your pony room is absolutely amazing shabbychicdee! I love love love that you've got the cabinets all white in color and that you paint the doors pastel colors as well. That room is so bright and lively. :o)
