Title: Hair problems.
Post by: LadySatine on October 11, 2013, 06:12:21 AM
Okay, first thing, I haven't emailed Tina yet. I ordered three skeins of electric banana and got them in August. I am just now getting around to the project that I am using them for. There is a major problem and I want to know if anyone else has had this. This is not pony hair. I don't know what kind of hair it is. I don't know if it's to make the skeins weigh more/look thicker or what. But I am annoyed to say the least.

Here is a picture. The one on top is old stock I had and the one on the bottom is the new I received.  >_<

Anyone else had this problem? I do intend to email Tina.

Ew, that's no good. I ordered from dh just a few days ago and the hair came in yesterday, silky and beautiful. The baggie was broken though and the hair had fallen out and gotten a little messy because it rained and the envelope got wet.

I also have this problem, but only with some colors. I'm relatively new to this, so I just figured it had something to do with some colors being different than others. It's an odd texture, really, but it's hard to tell the difference once you're done working with it.

I've got a couple hanks that have similar crimping in them, but as I've yet to make customs as paid commissions, I didn't really mind.  Now, I don't know a lick about the doll hair industry, or any part of how packaging it or anything works, but I seem to recall someone saying that that crimping sometimes occurs when the spool or whatever it's called of hair starts getting towards the end.  Have you tried washing it to see if the crimp will come out?

It's normal. I believe it happens when it's close to the end of the spool. Sometimes a good wash in warm water will help.

Most of the hanks in my last order looked like that. I think it looks fine once you're done working with it though.

It doesn't look the same colour, either. Maybe you got sent saran or acetate or something by mistake?

Are you sure you didn't get a substitute color? Sometimes if they are out of stock they will send a similar shade unless you click the button that opts for a refund if a color is unavailable.

I personally think thats whats happened here, that doesn't look like Nylon, and I don't think its just because is from the bottom of the spool.

Kaostat is correct, this has been explained before as hair near the inside of the spool and it makes the hair crimped as it lays on top of the strands below it. It winds tighter here and that seems to be the reason for it. Do make sure the wight is correct, but I would say doing a little straighten in hot water should fix this up.

It IS just the texture that is off---not the color right?

The one thing about dollyhair when ordering is that you have to read every word on the page. I normally hit the "check out now" button I don't use paypal option so I'm not sure what other screens you may or may not see. But this is at the bottom of the mine when I order You have to put NO in the bottom or you will very likely get completely different hair.

The colour looks pretty different to me.

The color may just look different because of how the light hits the different texture? If she sent a different color as a substitute, it would have a different color name written on the bag, wouldn't it?

All three of the bags say mlp electric banana,  so it's definitely not a different kind. I will try washing it to see if it looks better. And it does look like a different color in person! I always put  no in that box when it's for a commission also so that rules that out.

If the color seems off, you might want to drop her a line about that, too, just in case she still has more spools of that particular shipment of electric banana.  I believe that it's happened to her before that some of her orders were not dyed or whatever correctly at the factory before they even shipped to her so that the color was slightly off, and she has put notes alongside those colors when shopping so people know.

And yes, every time that I have received replacement colors (and yes, I always say it's okay, so long as it's still nylon - I've never been surprised by her that way), it does say the correct hair color name on the bag as opposed to the color that I wanted, and I've also always received a tiny note with it that says "We are currently out of (color), I hope you enjoy (other color) in its place" or something similar.

I'm going to email her then, I will see what's up with that.

If it is a replacement color, I received no note of it in my invoice or in my package. But like I said, I didn't ask for a replacement color in the first place.

I want to bump this as I am super annoyed. I have heard nothing from Tina about this.

Maybe Tina will see this on here. (annoyed times 12)

ETA: I've emailed her again and left her a pm here. Hopefully one of them will get answered.

This hasn't happened to me, but I too would be really annoyed! I understand the hank sizes varying a little from time to time, but to get what would possibly different color hair.... how odd!

I thought the color looked very different- it's not at all as saturated. Please keep us updated - looks like it's been at least a week since your first contact? Keep e-mailing :\

Just got an order in yesterday- 9 hanks. At least two are that same... odd... crinkly stuff. It is definately not just end of the spool. It doesn't condition out smoothly. It feels thick and dry and not silky and smooth and soft at all. Much harder than pony hair. Not a fan of it. It doesn't look too nice either.

I will definitely keep you all updated on this! Nothing yet...

Yep, conditioning did not help for me either. My commissioner said she didn't mind it on the first pony I did since he's all done, but wants the rest done in normal hair. And I don't blame her one bit, she picked that color for a reason. ;)

So I'm going to head over to the DH trade thread. If anyone here can help me, I need just one full skein of electric banana.

Yeah, one of mine is white and it's rather... translucent? I realize whtie hair is usually a little lessopaque but it seems especially so. The other colour is a chocolate brown, but I ordered a few browns and I didn't check which particular one it was.
I got two extra hanks with the seven I ordered, a pink and a really bright yellow. I think it might actually be electric banana, I'll check when I get back home.

Worriesome- I've always found dollyhair to be such great quality, I wonder what the deal is?

I would be happy to trade or buy if it is. Are you looking for anything specific?

I know it, I've never had any problems before! This makes me so sad.

Ah, no, it's tennis ball. And also crinkly. :/

I've had the crinkled hair before, the end-of-spool hair, and it's always smoothed out fine with washing and brushing. Sounds like this is different? Hmm.

It's definately not regular nylon pony hair. Mine is very hair and dry and even though I conditioned it it isn't soft and silky. Like when my regular pony hair comes in I just want to touch it ahhh it feels so nice. But this stuff feels like. Not smooth, or soft at all. It's like. crinkly and dry and hair and it simply does not soften.

Well, the different colors of nylon hair do have different textures, so I don't know that feel alone could tell you if it wasn't nylon hair. I know that a while back there was some white hair that had some weird non-nylon strands in them, and we knew they must be different fiber because they wouldn't take dye. One of the other properties of nylon hair is that it styles well with heat - have you tried using boiling water or a flat iron to straighten it? That might be a good indicator.

I've not used a flat iron yet, but I curled the ends of the mane and tail and that didn't seem to make a difference. I will try my flat iron though and let you know!

I bought some hair off ebay a bit ago, but I don't remember the colors. I'll check when I get home. If there's any Electric Banana, you're welcome to it!

Nylon hair really don't even need boiling water to curl. I found that hot tap water was typically enough for the most part, even if in the end it becomes a soft curl instead of tight ringlets. I think if it wasn't nylon it wouldn't take to curling easily with just hot tap water (with the exception of a few colors apparently)
