Title: Would you continue collecting ponies if the changed to this type of pony?
Post by: BronySD on August 26, 2013, 05:50:54 PM
I recently got the Equestria doll version of Princess Celestia and I am in love with the pony version she comes with. My question to you is, would you keep collecting if they got rid of blind bag ponies and the brushables, and replaced them with this type of pony? She's the perfect size to display, she's show accurate,  and her tail is brushable.

I think that if they could relaunch the brand and give us more of these type ponies we would get more variations, different poses, and more characters.

Oh, wow, she's bigger than I'd thought from the pictures.

I would absolutely keep collecting. In fact, I'd prefer it.  ^.^ No head/body mismatch!

It needs to be either all plastic hair/mane or all rooted. I like both of them, but can't stand it together.
[I also love all sizes, including the tiny blind bags, and the normal G4 size]

^__^ I do think that Celestia is beautiful, and if I had her, I would be making her a molded tail

I really cannot answer this as I already pretty much just collect the molded ponies. Hair & I do not get along!  Having said that, I've got these as well (I like Twilight best) & while I am impressed at their size & detail, these seem just a wee bit 'girlier' in their expressions & I don't know that I would collect them unless they had an engaging backstory.

Also WHY did they see the need to print plaid on Twilight's leg?!

Nope. I really do not like molded hair at ALL. I don't really care much if the pony is show accurate or not, plus if we're going for variety here, then what about ponies like Dewdrop Dazzle or Honeybuzz who weren't even on the show? I would be stuck with the plastic hair they gave her instead of having the fun of styling the pony and turning her into who I want to be. That's a lot of why I stopped collecting blind bags. Sure, I love the variety, but the fact that I can't really "play" with them makes them really boring, really fast.

The pony is pretty, I really like her, but I would not be happy with the switch. The QC on these pony figures is horrendous. Every one I've seen, both celestia and twilight, have had cracked faces.

Also, no therapeutic hair brushing? No way.   :P

I'll collect forever, so of course! Though, I don't like brushable/molded combo ponies too much. I'd prefer it to be one or the other, not both. Of course I still would get them.

Thanks for the feed back. I agree with a lot of you, I've been collecting since G1 and my favorite part of getting a pony was coming home and styling their hair. I just really miss walking down the pony section and seeing new ponies on the shelves. I can't get into the Blind bag ponies and they've come up with some really cool ones but they're too small for me. I'd even be happy if they came out with more boy ponies with the mold hair.

And fourthed. It has to be all brushable or all molded for me.  Other than that, Princess Celestia is pretty. I totally get how show accuracy is important to a lot of people. Totally unrelated, I'd love to see Princess Celestia and Nightmare Moon as G1s.

Yeah those Celestia and Twilight Sparkle ponies that come with the EG dolls are strange. I want to like them, but having a thin little brushable tail and molded hair makes no sense to me. What little girl wants to brush a tail? If they really wanted to do one of each, why not make the mane brushable and make the tail molded? The way they did it makes it look and feel like a cheap McD's toy pony.

Also, I don't understand why both ponies have a cutie mark that is a button you have to plug into a hole on their flank? o.0 What was the point of that, other than to enable little kids to lose them? Is the purpose so kids can switch the buttons around and give Celestia Twilight's cutie mark, and visa versa? Why? Strange decision there, Hasbro.

I thought the same thing Dragonflitter but the gem can actually switch from pony to doll, celestia's purse has a place for it..but it still really has no purpose.
Title: Re: Would you continue collecting ponies if the changed to this type of pony?
Post by: Pinkie21 on August 26, 2013, 07:19:24 PM
I don't think I would collect them the way I collect the ponies now.  I just cannot get into molded hair, aside from a few ponies who I really adore.  But I just cannot consider My Little Pony to be something without brushable hair.

I like this princess Celestia a lot, but the molded mane with brush-able tail just ruin everything to me. >.< I would rather have mane and tail molded. The mixed styles is so wrong, so not symmetric, odd... I don't know, just feels wrong.
Title: Re: Would you continue collecting ponies if the changed to this type of pony?
Post by: sd_dreamcrystal on August 26, 2013, 07:38:09 PM
I'll be quite honest actually... as I said I love my brushables and there is a reason... from time to time I take those ponies off the shelf and mess with their hair a little.. I like to play with the hair... a figure that is all molded hair would just sit there and do nothing for me... like all my blind bags...

Nope!  Still want a pudgier, larger pony with brushable hair.
Title: Re: Would you continue collecting ponies if the changed to this type of pony?
Post by: BigBrotherPony on August 26, 2013, 09:02:49 PM
I'm think she is really pretty, but that is more down to the pose and sculpt. I would like that sort of posing and sculpt combined with brushable hair.

I hate it when they mix both together... To me it should either be all moulded or both the main and tail should be brushable. and hopefully with a little more hair than present !

I am fed up of their receeding hairlines and limp, thin tails. I just got Pinkizilla and she is in desperate need of a comb over. She is double the size of a Fashion Styling pony, but with less hair ! She only has two rows of hair and it starts way to far back. FS have for rows of plugs :/

Although i love the Gs's (brushables and FS) the limited poses are quickly turning me back to G1's. G1's seemed to try harder, even at the end when the Rockin' Beat ponies came out in a desperate attempt to remain current...I found one today and actually like how loud she is! Clashing colors, Jem-style angular symbols a la late 80's...it just makes me smile. Not all suns and moons and stars and hearts.
I love brushable hair, i don't like the molded stuff except the Funkos and even then, they're kinda boring book-ends. I love ponies...and ponies should have hair manes AND tails!

I would for sure, I got the 2 ponies from the EQG and I hope they release Luna and the rest of the mane 6 like this :)
would be nice to have a complete set of them in this version
hope the Funko Celestia looks like this one in a bigger scale .
I'm already collecting the Funko's so I would be for sure keeping on collecting them

Not a chance. I love the EG pony molds and I highly prefer molded hair, but I hate the happy meal molded & rooted hair on one pony thing. It looks absolutely terrible to me. I was really excited about the EG Celestia until I saw her tail is rooted.

I don't mine either way, honestly, I'd even be happy if they switched to just molded hair, or just dolls even, or plushies only, even just blind bags. Hard to not please me when it comes to ponies. Only thing that would bug me is if all they sold was molded hair versions of all the brony popular BG ponies in FiM, and made Lyra/Bonbon and the seemingly random lesbian ships canon and market them highly.
And even if they did THAT, I'd still buy them.

I'm such a passive collector, only thing that bugs me is other collectors and fans.

No, they remind me of McDonald's ponies but even if she had a moulded tail as well I wouldn't be tempted.
Title: Re: Would you continue collecting ponies if the changed to this type of pony?
Post by: hathorcat on August 27, 2013, 02:19:43 AM
Nope. Moulded hair is not MLP.

I actually do think she is pretty and if she had a moulded tail [removing the McDs vibe she has going on] she would be a pretty ornament. Also she is pretty mould so even with brushable hair [mane and tail] she would look lovely.

However, I want ponies with a mane and tail I can brush. I am not that hard to please but for me Funko and Blind Bags are more merch angled than traditional plastic pony with brushable hair.

So it would not stop me being a pony collector of course but it would dampen my interest in any new ponies significantly.

I will stop collecting when they won't stop doing the core 7 thing on the G4 ;)
(ah you know what I was trying to say)

I do like the look of the "new" style but the molded tail bothers me as well - also that I have to buy the stupid (sorry I just don't like them - cuz I like PONIES and not ponies turned into dolls) dolls to get that pony...  >_<

I thought the same thing Dragonflitter but the gem can actually switch from pony to doll, celestia's purse has a place for it..but it still really has no purpose.

Ohhhhhhkay that makes more sense. Especially since they're doing the "decorate accessories with plastic gems" angle in the pony toys.

Though to treat a pony's cutie mark like a gem you can then switch over to a purse or clutch is still kinda weird...

The half-molded-half-brushable ponies remind me of cheap McDonald's ponies.   The sculpts are good, and boy do we need more new poses!, but I don't like the mismatched hair. I prefer brushables first, then all-molded hair, and lastly the combo-style.

I like them!  I'd feel a bit less-than-chuffed if the line was switched entirely to this sort of pony, but I  me my McPonies, and they rock the molded-body-brushable-tail combo.

I've been flirting with the idea of buying the Celestia and Twilight Sparkle EQG dolls just to get the pretty ponies in the packages... but I think I'll wait and try to nab her on eBay or at thrift or something.  Unless I spontaneously develop obscenely vast extraneous wealth or something...

I would still collect but I don't care for molded hair. I like brushable hair. Molded hair is no fun. You can't do anything with it. I also think they look cuter with brushable hair rather then stiff hard plastic hair.

Molded hair means more chances to make mistakes with painting. Also, usually McDonald's ponies are the only ones with molded hair and a brushable tail. For these reason I am pre-inclined to believe that ponies with molded manes are not very high quality. Anyway, I think brushable hair is pretty. :)

I prefer the ponies with plastic tail and mane. I don't like that usually they are brushable. I wish they'll launch colections with everything plastic. I think this way the ponies look prettier and closer to the show. I really like Celestia here, she's soo pretty! ^_^ I would buy her, but we don't have them here yet.
