Title: Poor Powder... (Pics are heavy! UPDATE: 13-8-2013)
Post by: TornadoTwist on July 27, 2013, 02:52:02 PM
So I got a sort of... bait/custom Powder in the mail Today from a seller from Ebay who sells Bait Ponies. So I guess she got them from other people. Anyways I like restoring as long as the hair is still looking good. I hate rehairing XD Well I got Powder in the mail today and...

The poor girl. She's all dirty and sticky. I guess the following pics will say enough:

shes rocking a bit of an early 90s cyber goth/raver look though! It kind of suits her. I like her hooves!!  I want to see her restoration when you have finished :) Powder is one of my favourites.

Somebody put a lot of work into that.  But yea, now that they've let her go, its time to restore her.

Restoring Powder Day 1: Managed to get off most of the sticky dirt and the glitter mess. Thank god her eyes are still perfect under the glitter. The only part I hope to restore is the discolouring under the removed parts… Is there a cure for this? Like, those yellow and red/pink parts under her neck?

Ooo, looking good so far!
Purple is always so tricky to deal with :S I say clean her as best you can and then see which areas are left discoloured. Maybe start by sunfading the bottom of one hoof to see how she takes it?

She's really not that baity... LOL. No chews, fab hair, and all she needs is some sunfading for those discolorations (as previously mentioned). Your progress is wonderful so far!

Haha, wow! Interesting customizing job... and you're doing very well at restoring her! It's too bad she's stained where the paint was really heavy, though. :(

Oh, she's brilliant already! If you can't sunfade her like others said, maybe buy/make an accessory to cover it up? She has snowflakes, so why not a nice scarf or mini "winter" coat or hoodie to cover the marks up if they are not coming out? :P *dreams of pony hoodies*

Oh, I think day 1 has gone really well! Do you think an oxyclean bath and good scrubbing with a toothbrush would help with the pink staining?

Wow, she is looking much better already! :)

Careful sun-fading may be the best option for the pink staining. Pink is the worst...

Oh my goodness! And lol my head went straight to Toy Story as well :P

I agree sun fading is your best bet. She looks so much better already. I cant wait to see her progress.

Unfortunately pink marks usually don't wash away. Your best bet is to wrap her up with tinfoil and only expose the parts you want sunfaded. Full sun, time and occasional re-positioning is what will help her.

Restoring Powder day 2-3. I got back from my Vacation and got the time again to work on her. She’s now all done of the sticky coat she had. Dont ask what it was. A mix of bacteria and dust I guess. All her Glitter is gone. I had to remove the Cutie Mark. but I will repaint it later. She still had some Pink Glue/Paint between the body and her head. But I removed it by carefully slicing it away with a knife. Now I will hopefully be able to sunfade the marks away. I also need help on how to restore her right hoof as you can see on the pic. After the sunfading I will do her hair and the finishing body cleaning. And then repaint the CM.

Good work so far! I think you should take her head off, put her in hot water and then gently push her leg from the inside so it returns to it's original shape.

This was what I was about to suggest. Not only that, but if you open her up, you can be extra sure to get all of the glitter that seeped inside the neck and possibly inside the pony.

She looks great so far. :frolic:

Awwwww, she looks lovely! I kind of think the original paint, reimagined by a proper custom artist and better supplies, might be neat too. :)

And some hours later and... IT WORKED! :D I also reposed her a bit. Her behind legs were a bit too close to eachother. I will only post After Pics. Since you can see the before ones more up this page. :) Thanks everyone for the positive comments! I will make her ready for sunfading tommorow. Any tips? Im planning to put her in a plastic transculent bag outside against the birds and have her wrapped up in foil. But I head there was something with sunfading purple ponies? Ah well. Some tips would help me alot! :)

Great job :)

If you are putting her outside in plastic make sure the bag has air flow. Other wise you will end up with condensation forming inside - which is not good for ponies.

I Guess I can do this by just making some holes in it? :)

Yes that will do perfect :) The plastic will swear in the sun so if you dont let air in and out you get moisture build up.

I usually swear in the sun when it gets too hot, too  ;)

TornadoTwist, you've done a fantastic job bringing Powder back from the maple-syrup-and-glitter hell she was in. I can hardly believe she's the same pony from the first picture to now!

Thanks everyone :) I think I will use the paint method where I will paint her completely white but not over the discolouring. And then remove the paint with alcohol. :) I heard thats better for Purple Ponies.

Wow... you did a really good job at restoring poor Powder. She look lovely! I can't wait to see the final effect.

As for sunfading her... I can't really help you with this one, as I have no experience with sunfading ponies in colors other than yellow, white and pink, and I'm kind of scared of trying this one out (currently I'm sunfading Little Giggles and she seems to be doing okay, but her color is much, much lighter than Powder's so...). Hopefully other, more experienced collectors can help you out with this one.

Keep up with the good work! :)
