HI everyone,
I found a new variant of french skydancer. So I am going to call her Seadancer due to the fact that she has French Seashell's colored hair as her predominant color.
I came across this beauty on french ebay.. The auction ended in the middle of the night here and I set up 2 alarms to make sure I got up in time to make a last minute bid.. Well.. I won her! I do not think many people saw the auction as she was not advertised well.
Here's the auction link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MON-PETIT-PONEY-MY-LITTLE-PONY-VINTAGE-83-HASBRO-PAT-PEND-MADE-IN-FRANCE-/190854004521?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=e9dqjJ8I7XLmX8nz8F%252BvIrcP1uQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
The story doesn't end there.. So I contacted the seller and she was so kind and said she would ship to the US for me. She also told me that someone else offered to pay a lot more for Seadancer after the auction ended and wanted her to cancel the sale to me. Can you believe that? I mean who would do this? Anyway she told me not to worry that she fully intended to sell to me as I was the winner of the auction. She also told me that the pony was one of her kids toys when they were growing up. Her kids are currently 22 and 30 years old now...
So onto the pony.
She came in yesterday. She is gorgeous.. I know there are two other versions of french skydancer.. One with pale yellow body rainbow hair with pink stripe, and one with a darker yellow body rainbow hair with coral stripe. This girl has a pale yellow body.. Seashell's green hair for her mane and an accent stripe of pink.. The colors in her tail are blue green and pink. She is stamped Made in france 1983. She has a squishy body like my french gloryshine but is a good half inch taller than her.
I just think its so neat that even all these years later we are still discovering new finds.. Who knows what else is out there.

Amazing. Can't believe some cheeky idiot who offered more and expected her to seriously sell to them. Plain rude. They missed it, tough luck.
Well done on this beauty!
-
Very strange, because when I emailed the seller to know more about it (because she had in an other auction a seashell which had some whool added in the tail, so i was really wondering if it was a rehaired or not) she answered she found it in a lot in a garage sale and bought it to a little girl, and that to her opinion the girl would not have done this... Why saying this and after that saying it is a childhood pony ?
Did you try to remove her head to see how it is inside ?
I hope it is the real deal, it's so exciting !
-
The whole conversation was in french so I may have translated it wrong.
I will go copy and paste the convo so an expert can sort it... I translated through one of those translation programs.
Can we have a French speaking member give us the real translation?
Here it is.
Dear pegasusunicorn,

sounds right translated for me.. (had 2 yrs school french) :) did you remove her head?
-
I was chatting to maycrestmom about removing the head last night. I have been trying and trying to get it off since I got her. It is factory sealed on and I do not want to damage her pulling it off..There is no reglue residue on the part of the neck I have
been able to get open.. But I am really concerned about tearing the pony. From what I can see its definitely factory sealed on there just like glory shine.. Any tips or advice?
-
wow she is amazing congratulations! what is it with these odd French rainbow ponies? I am wondering if they got a number of re-releases.
since the French ponies are soft there is always a chance you will rip the neck seal, you need to very carefully cut through the glue with a sharp knife.

squishy ponies are weaker than regular ones so i totally understand your fear of damaging the pony. from the pics the hair looks like original pony hair. its weird that there are colors in the tail but not in the mane like yellow (or is it just a reflection in the pic which makes it look yellow?)
and btw: your gloryshine is gorgeous!
-
It might be reflection but she doesn't have any yellow in her tail.
-
wow she is gorgeous!
-
She's stunning! Congrats!

O MY GOD.. that was the most nerve racking experience EVER
I was able to get half of her neck seal open and the rubber is soft enough where I was able to bend in and see inside..
ITS FACTORY WEAVED!!!!!
Thank god.. I thought I would ruin her.. her head is soooo sealed on that if i remove the whole head I think I will rip her.. I can
show to maycrestmom next time we do our meetup so she can confirm.. But she does have a weave!
-
Congrats Ember! She's beautiful!!! Also if you want to pull off the head use a box cutter and slice through little by little and very slowly. It works well even with Spanish piggy ponies which I think are the most squishiest ponies.
Very interesting that quite a number of these variants (like the greek CP) are popping up a lot on eBay lately!
-
Thanks Pinkroze.. I really appreciate the tip.. Since I got half of her head off and was able to see inside I do not think I want to break the seal on the non display side..
But anyone else like maycrestmom who inspects her in person will also be able to see the weave as well so I think its a good comprimise having broke the seal on one side but to leave
the other in tact.. I also don't want any nasty quarter inch gaps in between the mane and body.
Here is another view of her so you can better see the colors in her mane and tail
She has two rows of green in her mane and an additional row for the pink streak.

AND here is her display side neck seam after I opened it to peer inside.. Should I reglue it down after maycrestmom has looked inside for confirmation?

I think I have seen one like that before but the tail looks different, Bibinettepony sold some ponies late last year one skydancer had her hair all chopped off but you could see the mane was very similar to yours but cant tell about the shade off green? Her photos are still up on the photobucket link, It leads me to believe there is a few around?

Anyhow she is really pretty congrats : )
-
Wow good catch there.. Well I guess that confirms it then.. There are two!
She is definitely one of the rarest frenchies though because I certainly have never
seen her before that auction and I have been scouring for frenchies for ages.
I also notice something in that side by side comparison picture... The seadancer with the buzz cut in her picture has
darker seagulls than the normal french skydancer.. Mine also has very deep dark green symbols..
-
wow she is very very lovely , congrats on getting her.
-
She's very beautiful, congrats on finding her :)
-
Ok so then this would be the updated french oddball list.
French cc unicorn
French cc shy pose
Reverse bowtie
Lilac windy
Dark purple windy
Gloryshine
Suntie
Seadancer
Am I missing any?
-
Very pretty pony  congratulations and that one in the photobucket album looks just like her (except for the buzzcut of course)
-
Wow what a beauty! :lovey: what a great find, congrats!
looks like bibinettes skydancer on photobucket has indeed (had) the same haircolor!
-
Yes. And I think her tail from what I can see is an exact match too. Look when it falls toward her front legs.

She's gorgeous! Congrats!!
-
we should update the nirvana gallery if it worked :D
-
nhal039 super awesome eyes to confirm that punkrocker frenchie as the same!!!
:-) and yep, PKW I am with you on thinking that the variants like this were probably the re-releases after the traditional rainbows - that makes sense
yay :-) I just love the fact that new old ponies can still be discovered :-)
-
Yes definitely. Check out this link and scroll
to rainbow ponies. I think they produced the oddballs from the groups of ponies pictured together probably
at the end of the first year rainbow release as a second mini release like was suggested.
My theory is that regardless of what symbol they have they were mini modified re-releases of the first year rainbow ponies.
I theorize that something could have happened to the stamps for the symbols of parasol and sunlight so they went with bowtie and cc symbols for both instead.
None of this made sense before because we didn't have a skydancer for the set. But I was looking at the US pamphlet photos I had an AHA moment.

Sunlight. We have suntie which has bowties symbols but most resembles sunlight.
Skydancer. We now have seadancer.
Moonstone. I recall a french moonstone in the gallery that had a different color body than the normal french release.
Parasol. Released with Parasol's body and eyes but with blue hair and bowties and cotton candys symbols
Starshine. We have Gloryshine.
Windy. Comes with lilac and dark purple hair
-
It could have been something similar to the princess variants where they were using up the "remnants" in the factory.
Moonstone ~ there is one with reverse coloured symbols and if memory serves me right there is one with white and blue paint instead of the the blue and silver paint.
Starshine ~ coral coloured stripe instead of pink stripe
Skydancer ~ coral coloured stripe instead of pink stripe
Windy ~ blue body of moonstone with moonstones magenta eyes, but windy's symbols

It's all a mystery.
We dont know when the coral hair versions were released. They could have been different batches from the first release.
-
It is a bit of a mystery, it seems with the French rainbow ponies the closer you look, the more you see
I have a pink stripe Starshine MOC but I don't get any clue from it

-
Amazing can you post some photos pwk?
Has anyone found one of the non rainbow haired oddballs on a card?

Wow she's gorgeous! Let us know the translation. Is the card marked with a year?
-
I haven't been home to check her card yet. I wanted to check the year though and the blurb on the back :)
I have been thinking about the odd haired French ponies and there is a glory with a blue tail as well :)
Love pkw xxx
-
I think she looks amazing in those colours!! Much prettier than the us rainbow!
What an awesome find, canĀ“t believe so few people had noticed the auction, you lucky duck! ;)
-
She would have been a weird pony to have even been a rehair as she has that extra small line of plugs where here pink stripe is (on a rainbow, where there should have been two identical length rows) , so that should have pointed her out as odd anyway. I think she looks great and eagle eyes nhal wow! Nice pic of her and Gloryshine together :)
-
What an amasing find !! She is gorgeous !
I confirm for the reversed symbol moonstone and the white symbol moonstone (although I can't show any picture as I don't own them).
It's so exciting, all these nex variants popping up !!!
-
thank you Psydo :bigups:
SO! finally I have my MOC French Starshine in front of me.
Her card is French and Dutch and at the bottom it says "Made in France for Unica - Kortijk/Heule/Belgium and Otto Simon - Almelo/Holland EN 27"
Love pkw xxx
-
Wow, huuge congrats! She is gorgeus. I love the hair.
This is a really interesting thread, all this mystery with nirvanas.
-
Was she marked with a year PWK?
That's interesting reference. I guess france exported
To Belgium.
-
I want a French pony so bad!!!
-
Aw she is wonderful :D
-

To Belgium.
Belgium also imported Italy ponies as I have an Italian seashell on a similar card.
Starshine and her card are marked 1983 :)

Very interesting! Does make you wonder if there are any more rainbow variants out there. It does seem a reasonable explanation for Suntie and alt Cc as well.
I'm pretty sure Belgium did sell some French ponies, possibly Holland and well. Certainly there are reasonable numbers found there second hand, but they could be holiday purchases.
-
oh admittedly that's what I assumed - kinda like when piggy ponies show up in boot sales I think well that was to "keep the kid happy" while on holiday... but that would be cool to think of the possibility of more of these French variants as regular sales' exports
just love we are still discovering about MLP even 30 years later :-)
-
Congratulations on your pony find, Ember1. She's a beauty!
-
Thanks everyone. It was a bit nerve racking as its always a gamble when
Finding new variants. I am so glad she turned out to be genuine
And to have a new french oddball added to the list.
