Title: Queen Chrysalis figure ?
Post by: Moondancer Jaye on May 22, 2013, 07:18:19 PM
Hello everyone,

I've seen some custom-made Queen Chrysalis figures here and there, but I was wondering if any of you knew if there was gonna be an official Chrysalis toy/figure/collectible? Or perhaps it exists and I'm not aware of it yet? I find her to be a great villain!! It's too bad we don't see more of her in the episodes  :(

Thanks for letting me know if you have any news or threads  :)

There will be an official Chrysalis figure. She will be released in a fan favorites pack just like the one with Nightmare Moon.

There's also a blind bag version that comes in a three pack.

Not yet- but there will be 2 this year.

There will be a "playful" or "brushable" size Chrysalis with the new "favorites" set- (even though the sneak peak suggests it will be a repainted Celestia..

And a blindbag size that looks pretty awesome.  visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Again- these will be released this year, but so far neither have been spotted on ebay or Taobao.

we should start seeing chrysallis soon, i mean other toys from that set have shtated to surface .

i really REALLY hope hasbro has made some changes to the brushable verson tho.

even if the only make diffrent wings for her, it will still bee an inprovemonet over ................that!
and a better paint job wouldent go astary either ....

Yeah, I have to agree that the brushable looks... rather like a hastily-made custom. :( I really hope the finished product is better.

I'm really hoping Hasbro just slapped together this prototype fast for the toy show and the finished product will be better. I can live with the molded shoes but the stickers for holes?! Come on Hasbro ever hear of a hole punch!!

My guess what we see is what we are going to get sadly. At least they could have given her the proper horn.

Considering that Chrysalis doesn't have a horn shaped like Celestia's, doesn't have ears shaped like Celestia's, doesn't have wings shaped like Celestia's, and doesn't have shoes like Celestia, I'm pretty upset they used the Celestia mold for her. -_-  She looks terrible.

Wow, that is the SLOPPIEST toy-design I've EVER seen. o_o
I think it is - SADLY - more than likely that they'll release her like that but I feel sad for everyone who has wanted a toy of her. New low Hasbro.. wow. This is a true shame. :C

I will say from a villains point of view that toy would insult me greatly.  Really hasbro is it that hard to get it even a tiny bit right?

I was thinking the same thing to.

I'm really hoping that the reason we haven't seen her on Taobao yet-  is because they are SERIOUSLY revising her design.

I mean, they changed various things about some of the other ponies? So crossing my fingers that they will get a better design up for poor Chrysalis.

TBH, I'm not overly-bothered by the show-inaccuracy.  Yes, the horn is the wrong shape.  But considering that Celestia is often much too dark a pink (she's supposed to be nearly white), I can see much worse mistakes.

Plus, re-using a pony mold is a lot less expensive than making an entirely new mold that you know in advance will only be used on ONE limited-release pony.  IIRC, Nightmare Moon was made from the Celestia mold, too.

Even revising a mould is extremely expensive - I'd be surprised if Hasbro is going to do more than shoehorn Chrysalis into the default princess mould, because it's not cost effective for a single release in a single pack / no chance of reusing the alterations for other characters.

I really don't expect that they're going to revise a mold or change it just for her, but it would be amazing if they did! Hasbro has made more bizarre choices regarding ponies and special molds in the past... Like Baby Honolu-loo's mold, Dance Around's mold, and Mochanut's mold.  All only used once!  Much to my sadness, since they're all adorable. :(

I'm surprised so many people are surprised, to be honest.  Hasbro would have had to make a whole new brush able mold for just that one character that couldn't be reused for another character.  If they had decided to do so now, we would probably be paying $50 for just that one pony.

I understand what you say about making an extra mold being too expensive for the TRU Favourites Collection / simple Brushable.

But then

a) Don't release this character as a simple brushable but in some kind of Collector's Edition/Collectors Series at a higher price but with better execution
b) Do not release her at all

I doubt there will be many people out there who will love her for what she is like now. Even kids will resent it. I knew I did when I was a kid. I made my own toys out of clay instead. ^^

Agreed. They can hardly bother making new molds for the regular ponies. Not to mention that this set is getting a very limited release. Available at only one store chain and it will not be available worldwide.

I won't be surprised if she stays the same-  I expect she probably will.  But I can still hope

... and then go ahead and buy a Chrysalis that rocks from Hannaliten

I disagree that not making her at all is a solution.  The last thing I want is for Hasbro to not make new characters just because it isn't cost effective to make them show-accurate.  We would never get new characters that way!

I think the best we can hope for is that she is so popular in current form that they decide that she would sell well on her own as a collectors item, i.e. Nightmare Moon.  And make no mistake, we would still be paying out of the nose for it.

I also don't think that the majority of children will be all that bothered by her current incarnation.  A few, yes but not the majority.  All it takes is a little imagination and children have that in spades.

Well, I HOPE you are right in that. I really do.

All I can say is that for me, personally, the low quality of the G4 toys has driven me away from collecting (current, I still have my G1) MLP and the Franchise in general, right into the arms of Mattel who are, for whatever reason, able to do a much better job. ..and I really want to like MLP and see Hasbro make awesome toys of it!
Seeing toys like this does not help respark anything within me, tho. :,C

Honolu-loo was in a relatively expensive playset (compared to a single).  The other two moulds were generic enough they could well have been used for other characters down the line, but it was at the tail end of G3 / changeover to 3.5.  Probably there were plans to re-use Dance Around / Mochanut's moulds, but they got tossed in favour of the Bore Seven.

I don't mind that Chrysalis brushable is 'cheap'. Yes I'd prefer if she was in a whole new mold too, but I'm happy with her and I'd buy her anyway.

I won't be getting the set unless they change Chrysalis. I understand them re-using Celestia's mold for Nightmare Moon, as the only thing that's really different about them is their wings, but this Chrysalis attempt is just pathetic and discouraging. It actually convinced me not to get the set after I'd already planned on getting it. I don't want to own that abomination. :P Even if her hair is a really pretty color. I'm one of those who'd rather they not release her at all than do so like this. I'll pick up the blindbag version of her when it's released, though.

That leaves :muffin: Pony and Diamond Tiara as the only two I really want out of the set, and frankly, they just aren't worth it. Lyrica (isn't that the name of some kind of medication?) is one of the weirdest choices ever to include in a "Fan Favorites" set, since nobody really knew who she was or gave her a second glance. Personally, I don't really care for her and the other three are all re-releases. I'm not complaining too much though, I don't really mind not having to spend my money. Hopefully, I'll be able to pick up the couple I do want for a decent price somewhere down the road.

Personally, I'm just happy to have her in any way.  Hasbro could just say "forget this" and not make her at all.  *shrug*  I really don't expect Hasbro to be as thorough with details as, say, Funko.

Stickers for holes and a mold that looks nothing like her.
I *really* hope this isn't the final product for her :/

Have any of the g4 fair toys looked different when they were actually released VS shown at the fair?

I can't believe a mold is THAT expensive. I mean, I know it is, but for a decent product, at this time, with the huge fan base, Hasbro could probably get a mold for free from some devoted fan. If mold cost is the only thing determining that Chrysalis now have regular feathered wings well... I can't even measure my disappointment.

I will probably get the set anyway (help?) because I want the pony that can not be named. And I may need an army of Cadences to handle my army of Pinkies.

The blindbag Chrysalis is not that bad and the mold won't be used for anyone else too. Why not make a neat brushable of her?

They are for the price point of the product though. I mean the set will be $40-50 and contain 7 ponies. With G4 Hasbro are after the fast moving, cheap end of the toy market - unfortunately this means investment in variety is unlikely.

However, I do hope to be proven wrong.
