Title: Sunset's Backdrops -just finished: mini Wedding/Cloudesdale
Post by: Sunset on May 15, 2013, 06:32:21 PM: I'm making this thread to help me keep track of all of my current backdrop sales and so that others can see my newest stuff. I will be selling all of my back drops on ebay just because that is easier for me unless someone is interested in making a commission.

For those who are interested, I will be selling these hand painted backdrops for displaying and photographing your ponies. They are done on 16 x 20 sized loose piece of canvas using acrylic paint.

Yes, I've been contemplating a Cloudsdale one, too. I just haven't decided whether to put the whole of Cloudesdale in the background or do a scene inside Cloudesdale.

I just bought another pad of canvas at Hobby Lobby ( 40% off!) so I'm sure that more will be coming soon. I do however really need to finish another non-pony painting that I have been putting off for quit a while now. oh, and house work, too :P

You know, if you take high quality photos of these and upload them to deviant ART, they have a print store that lets you create a million different sizes of these so you can let them replicate them for you without having to paint everyone and more people can get one;)

Yes, I have recently joined Deviantart and looked into the print costs. If people are interested in very small prints it might work out. However, the prices I am selling them at currently are on par or cheaper than what they would be selling them at for the size. And I would only get 20% through Deviantart whereas if I sell them myself, all of the profit comes back to me. I thought about selling small prints (postcard size) through Deviantart but I just didn't know if anyone would be interested.

I will ship international. It would be the cost of shipping plus $2 for the mailing tube (that's how much buy them for.)

Dream castle is on ebay right now starting at $20. The link to my auctions page is in the first post. :) I'm also happy to take commissions. Prices vary depending on size and how complicated it is (how long it will take me to paint.)

Seriously Sunset you need to get some high res scans up onto DA- I think you can take your paintings to any print shop and they will put them on a zip drive for you- then you can just upload them to DA!

Your stuff is great!

Have you considered doing some Monster High backdrops? That would be fun and I know people love taking pics of their dolls...

re: Deviantart prints: I have been contemplating putting up some of my older paintings for sell (like the Monet inspired ones). People seem to like them but I just can't bring myself to sell the originals.

I appologize in advance if you've already stated this; what materials do you use apart from canvas?

I suggest getting really good scans and selling a pdf or the like with a printable version (A4 or A3?) to sell, and if people complain to you on deviantart that you're selling them for money ignore it.
I've seen a lot of people get harassed for charging a nickel for really good digital materials.

I use acrylic paints but other than that that's pretty much it. The backdrop is just propped up against my easel when I use it to photograph ponies so there isn't an attached stand.
