Alright, I need some input and opinions which I know I can find plenty of here! For super secret purposes I need to know which eye style you prefer the most. And no, I'm not talking about which show or which pony or which gen you like most, this is simply about eyes.
Feel free to post in here your reasoning, or what you may like if you could take parts of one eye with another gen's eye. And of course I have pictures for examples (though I do not own any of these, and grabbed them off of google).
G1 Eye

The G1 ones are easily my favorite, though I like the G3 as well.
Hasbro managed to get a lot of expression into the G3 eyes, which I really think is important. The G3.5 eyes... no. Just no.

In a way, I like G4 eyes the best. There's quite a bit of variation in the styles that seem to imply different personalities. With a generation that doesn't have a lot of pose variation at all so far, the eyes grab a lot of attention.
But beyond that, I love them all. Each style is suited to its generation. G1 eyes are simple and cute, G2 eyes are elegant, G3 eyes are modern and endearing, G4 help capture the feel of the show that made the toys so immensely popular.

I rather like G3 eyes. But my favourite are Twinkle Eyes, just because of the freaky backstory.

I love that G1 eyes look kind and wise and gentle. G3 eyes are also great... Not a fan of all of them (the half-lidded eyes aren't always my style) but they're always colorful and creative and bright.
I'm not a fan of the eyes on the G4 toys, but I love them in the show. Very expressive!

I remember that when G3 was just beginning, I thought the eyes were too busy. But I've really grown to love them. I am having trouble deciding between G1 and G3 for the poll...
I do really like G2 as well, they just aren't my faves. G3.5 is the worst. While I like the rounder eye shapes in G4, there's something off about how the Twilight, Rarity and Fluttershy shapes look. They're all so pretty in cartoon form but I feel like they weren't translated to toy form quite right. :S They could have done better eyes...I've seen plenty of gorgeous G4 customs to know that!

G4s are my fave because of the variety and expressiveness. Or maybe because they try to mimic the Japanese "anime" eye look.
But I agree with the others who posted before me - the G1 eyes are simple and look wise/calm. ^.^
I don't like the little shapes (ie. small heart, dot, flame, star, etc) in the G3/3.5 eyes.

G1s always looked sweet and innocent to me! They're by far my favorite!

G1 wins my emotional vote, but I like the anime style of G4 too.. G3 are hands down the "prettiest" :p Well there you go.. I cant choose!!

G1 eyes, with G3 eyes being my second pick. (Although I don't like the tiny hearts / stars in them.)
The only G4 eyes I like are Twilight and Rarity's style, the other ones look rather lifeless to me. Especially Fluttershy's, they just look off.

:) I love the G3 eyes, the 3.5 eyes are more toward anime ... :) it's all great though.

I love the G1 eye. It's not only the paint, but the molding behind it that I like. I love my G4s but... they do seem a little off to me. Especially Fluttershy's eyes. They're cute in the cartoon though.

G1 - the eyes were always the thing I liked most about ponies and the G1s really have pretty and soulful eyes. I don't think they ever have been able to recreate those eyes :)

I love G1 eyes- they're just so sweet.
Of the G4s- I think the new Sunset Shimmer eye is pretty (although it doesn't convey the feeling that the G1 eyes do...)

The G1 eyes just look more natural. G2 eyes are too squinty. G3 are too big. And G4 eyes are too cartoonish, but are more expressive, so that would be my second choice.

I voted "Other" - I'm a TE lover and always will be. :lovey:
Though I really am torn between the G1 and G3's for second place. They're so similar in style, but I think I would lean more towards G3's, because I feel like they offer more expression in them than G1's.
G4's are so different, not in a bad way, that they don't always bring me to that "pony" feeling. ^_^

Wow, I'm pretty surprised by the results! My personal favorite is G3, because the shape and expression is nice. I also am not a fan of the little eye stars and hearts. Eyes seem to really make or break how a pony looks overall, very interesting stuff!

Specifying! I love the color swirl and shaped shine of G3 eyes, but I also enjoy the variety of eye shapes of G4s.

I voted G1 eyes. But I like G4 eyes too, they fit the G4 ponies perfectly. :) I mean, G4 pony with G1 style eyes would be just weird.

this would be a hard decision for me. I love G1 eyes. They are classic. But I also like G3 eyes. The harken back to G1 but they are more varied. I like the little symbols in their eyes. Especially the ones like Applejack and Waterfire. And even though I don't really collect G2, I've always like the concept of the little gem in their eyes.

Torn between G1 and G3, G1 is so calm and wise with the pretty extra-think black line on the top. G3 is so vibrant and full of fun though!

It is a complete tie for me between the G1 and the G3. I can't decide!

Other. I :heart: the original G1 eyes best of all, so sweet and shy-looking... but like some others have said, I also really like the shaped eye-sparkles of G3. (I think it was Applejack's eye-symbols that sold me on that.)

^^ So true! I just got my first 25th Anniversary re-issue pony (Skydancer) and the eyes are... off, somehow. Not quite right.

I love the G2 ponies, but voted for G1 eyes. For some reason, some G2 eyes look really evil.

Best eyes on a G4: Cadence
Worst eyes on a G4: Its a tie between the first Luna brushable and the molded Celestia figurine. If you look at them from the front they have this bizarre deranged look.
The other gens had pretty eyes too. I love the gems in the G2s and the sweet looks of the G1s.

G1. I'm not a big fan of crystals in the eyes (they look more evil than bbe's). G3 and beyond are too big and the bigger they get the less proportionate to a real horse.

So considering what you just said Crumpet, is that what it is for most G1 eye lovers?
This is helping me so much, and I'll of course show you guys what you've been helping me with once I'm done :)

G1 eyes. Especially the beautiful Greek eyes. And unusual colours like Rosette's orangey-brown eyes :)

G2 .... Gem inside ! And blue or violet lashes are much softer than black. Second favotite - g4 unicorns`s oriental eyes. :flirty:

I love the magenta eyes of G1!
Zecora and Sunset Shimmer have the best eyes of G4, IMO. I reeeeally love Zecora's eyes.

G1 eyes are my favorite. They're simpler, more realistic but still cartoonish, and have a softness to them.
I think it's so interesting how you can really get a feel for each generation just by looking at their eye styles.

I can't decide! I love G1 eyes but I also love G4 eyes. G1 eyes are so sweet and elegant. G4 eyes are so different than all the others. I voted G4 but I absolutely LOVE G1 eyes.

I think she's joking that there are so many G1 fans here, that the answers are going to be heavily weighted in favor of G1 over the other gens. Don't get me wrong, I love the G4 eyes, but there's just something about a G1 eye that I can't resist.

The eyes are one of the best parts about the G1s. so unique and gorgeous! The perfect mix of cute and sweet and rarely replicated even in customs <3<3<3

I picked the G3 eyes. They're just so beautiful with the two tones and symbols in them. All the other eyes are great too, though.

But I love pretty much all the eyes! G2 would have been my second pick. I love the eyes on them even if I don't collect them.

While I love G1 eyes, I think G3 did the most with them. All the multicolor eyes, and the ones with the different shaped little "shimmers" like waterfires flame and applejack's apple... just so cute!

Funnily enough, I used to really dislike G3 eyes because of the little heart/star/apple/etc. shaped symbols! I guess I thought they were tacky or something; now I just love them! They're a cute little way to give the eyes more pop and personality.

G3 for me, I love how they incorporate two colours together, & the little icons are cute, although sometimes they can be a little distracting.
G1 is a close second, they look so innocent & gentle. :)
I think the gems in G2 are a nice touch, but they don't translate very well into the artwork. Sometimes the eye sparkles can look a little creepy xD

I picked G3 eyes, because they maintain the sweet, classic, cartoon shape of the G1 eyes, while adding multiple colors and symbols that just make them really exciting and lovely. :) I can't resist that extra detail and exuberance.
I definitely like how much shape variety there is in G4 eyes, though. And Nightmare Moon has the best eyes of any pony, in my opinion. :) The gradient just makes them look so much more alive than any of my other ponies!

Kinda old, but definitely g4 to me, hands down. Sorry, but in my opinion all of the other gens look less cute and more realistic, and I just don't like em. g1s are gentle and stuff, but they're just not my thing
