Title: Your job?
Post by: Shiromisa on May 13, 2013, 08:43:23 PM
Tell me all about it! What do you do? What was your favorite job? What's your dream job?

I'm currently a bakery clerk, and eventually I want to own my own bakery!

I just got hired at my future brother-in-law's toy store. I make boxes, pack up shipments, take inventory, basically whatever he needs me to do.

It's pretty good job for a pony collector. I'm his go-to pony worker.

I'm currently a housewife and then starting in August my job will be "student". My dream job is to breed and raise endangered animals, so I am going back to school to get a degree in Zoology.

Current job, student at a local trade school (medical billing). Am attempting to finish off classes at the local JC and transfer, in the next two years. I'm a double major in Anthropology and Native American Studies. Related to that, my dream job is to work for a tribe. Somewhere in the WA area. Working in the area of cultural reparation, language preservation etc.

Best job to date? Barnes & Nobles, though that only lasted two weeks (due to family issues/drama). Bibliophile me was in heaven!

Beyond that I've worked a bit of food service, retail and pet grooming. Not allergic to hard work. Though construction and or anything involving heavy equipment (but it would be fun!) is out. Due to my epilepsy.

my first job was part time reception for a clothing importer/retail store. a few months after that ended they called me back to help them catch up on bank rec's, which lead to me getting the reception job back - plus more. accounts payable/receivable, import liaison (which i loved!!!!) second job was with a company called purple pig  which actually sold rubber hoses, irrigation stuff etc :) started off accts receivable, but very quickly became credit controller for half their clients (which i also loved!!) now my job is a mum!! god help whoever i work for next, as my past 2 employers both went under - they say it comes in threes  my dream job would be to do accounts from home - i love balancing and figuring out problems :) or something crafty from home - my sis and i sell crystals at local markets (see sig :P), but would love for it to take off and support us - or even be able to open a shop!!!

Right now I have two jobs.

One is in a church (I work in the children's department putting together curriculum for children every weekend-I don't even attend the church). I like it just fine.  Pretty relaxed work, and I like working with kids.

Second job is in retail.  I work some evenings and weekends in a jewelry store in a busy mall. I love the jewelry, and the company is great to work for.  I don't like the business, but it's the best retail job I've ever had!

My dream job would be doing mission work in a Latin American country (I love Spanish). I would love to work with kids in a different cultural setting!  Maybe teaching music (my other passion in life).

I work at McDonald's, previously cooking but now only doing service. (I'm allergic to the gloves the grill team has to wear.)

I'm going to college this fall and my dream is pretty broad... I want to make something beautiful: art and writing and physical things. I figured out what I wanted to make in my life through my favourite game... which was shut down. I dream of making beautiful worlds and characters that suck you in like Ghibli movies, making plushies, just making things.

I currently have two jobs!  I work part-time as a sales associate at a mall selling fancier lotions and potions.  I really enjoy it; it's easy work and everything smells good and the products actually work! I also work as a dental receptionist...which is no where near as enjoyable.  It's a lot of people talking, and insurance tussling, phone calling,  and my least favorite, money collecting.  Nothing worse than having to collect money from poor people who need expensive treatment.  Sheesh.
I'm starting back school next month for radiology, so I guess I'll toss student on top of those two jobs for the rest of the year.
My favorite job was working as a lab/field grunt for the USDA.  I got to work with plants all day and hang out in the sunshine and eat lots of fresh picked fruits.  It was pretty magical.
I don't know what my dream job would be, honestly.  I'd love to write illustrate books all day but I also know I haven't the gumption to be self-employed.  Well that and my personal preferances in visuals and literary choice isn't everyone's cup of tea/hence not profitable.  I think a dream job would be one where I get to interact with people on a one-on-one basis and help them out somehow. And also a job where the only thing I have to "collect" is data and/or a paycheck. Haha

Right now? Cook, cleaner, babysitter, taxi driver, naggy wife....  If you hadn't guessed already I'm a stay at home mum

BC (before children) I worked at a university in admin (English Dept). Coolest job I'd say was during my student days, working in a video shop (bad pay but endless movies!!!!). Worst job - call centre - never, ever again.

Slowly freeing myself up from kids, so not sure what to do (bit of a dilmena at the moment). It'd be cool to work from home - I have a couple of ideas I need to give more thought to, but it'd be great to step up my art commissions a notch. I still want to be around for the kids after school/during holidays etc.

I work at the business college of my university, doing tech and classroom support as well as lab monitoring.  Since I came home for the summer, I'm hoping to get a temporary job at GameStop.

Dream job?  Game designer for Nintendo.  Heck, even making a contribution in a small designated area (character design, specific programming area, etc.) would be wonderful. :)

I'm a PhD student, so that's basically my work - which is in Fisheries and Fish Management... my dream job used to be a professor, but now I'm very much leaning towards wanting to get a state or federal level job and work as a fish biologist, or potentially even a crew member of a commercial fishing vessel... I'll be way over educated, but, I realize now my true love is to be ON the water, touching fish!

I work at the local cinema and doing fairly good. Within the year I've been there I've been promoted to shiftleader and also learned to manage the tech side of it (ie starting movies etc). It's a very diverse job with great coworkers and I love every minute of it.

Before that I worked at a grocerystore, managing the bread and candy department. I loved my coworkers there and the boss, but things was a lot harder for the workers and being a small store I never got the title or payment for what I did and only got paid the same as the rest of the floor people but with a whole lot of more responsibility. It's great to now be at a place where I get the appreciation for the things I do.

My dreamjob is what I educated myself to. I am an archaeologist and would love to excavate things, but it's way harder to get in to that business than I ever imagined and I have slowly given up on ever working in that field. :(

I live in a college football town, so two years ago I worked in the visitor's center next to the stadium for the season. I would only work on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. It was a nice job- I would organize and fold clothes, take hangers off racks, open boxes, sell bottled water out in the front (that was a little frightening), and run a bouncy house.

I hope babysitting counts, because I've done a lot of that!

I'm too young to have a full-time job yet, and my dad will not even let me get a summer job! I'm glad though, that I was able to work at the visitor's center. ;)

I work at a toy store doing all the thing you do working in a store, I have only worked there for half a year but I already gotten some larger assignments like talking to sellers, ordering thing and get to deside what toys we should order in. So atm life is good! :)

I dont really know what my dream job is, I do like working in a store so for now I will do that!
I may go back to school when my fiance is done with his education (he has a year left) so we dont have to worry about money so much. :)

I work for a factory which makes circuit boards. I am a Final Inspector there and I check all the boards before they go to the customer or assembly house. The boards I check go into all sorts of things from TV's and radio consoles to planes (domestic and military) and medical equipment, some of the boards I have inspected have also found their way into hi spec racing cars (Formula 1/McLaren) and even been sent into Space!!

My job did not need any professional qualifications to start with. I was fresh out of university having failed my degree in Sociology and didn't have a clue what to do with my life. After months of zero call backs and failed interviews, my step-mom said she had some jobs going where she worked, she said it might not be what I wanted or was expecting, but its a job. 10 years on, and I am still there!!

As for my dream job, well I think I am kinda there already!!  I would love to gain some more professional qualifications, I already have my IPC certification!!

I'm a keeper of 3 cats and 4 chickens!  Oh- and also a lawyer (ducks a fakie).

I'd actually like nothing better than to go back to school for something completely different like Entomology- then write myself a grant so I could study cool bugs in the Amazon basin...  of course, the cats wouldn't like that much - and my partner has informed me several times now that she wouldn't go with me so I guess I'd be pretty lonely

I'm an artist, writer and creator of fuzzily soft sculptures that are often mistaken for toys.
But at the moment I'm on disability because of chronic pain issues (all very boring) and that makes it difficult to work on anything.

My dream is to design things and have them all made in a great big factory :)

My dream would be to be a visual artist (like painting, sculpture, photography... whatever), but I have zero artistic talent at all, so that's out of question :< I would also like to make computer games, and this one is actually quite possible, so who knows, what will future bring^^

Did you see this?
It breaks my heart. I literally feel sick to my stomach over it. In Belize, they razed a 2,300 year old Mayan pyramid last week to use the limestone for road fill.
Archaeology is my passion/dream job, too.

I'm a graphic artist. ^~^ Right now I am doing production work. I love it so much, because I actually get to work on really awesome/cute art. My only hope is that one day I could do the art that makes it onto product, but for right now-- I'm happy "fixing" up all the artwork.

Quite honestly I want to be a housewife-- but, well, that's just not financially possible.

I'm a stay-at-home-mom.  We have four daughters.  :)  But I do have my bachelor's and master's degrees in Illustration, and I do freelance projects from time to time.

My husband is a technical artist.  He works in the video game industry - right now he's at Sledgehammer, which is one of the studios Activision contracts with to make the various Call of Duty games.

So I guess you could say we are somewhat an artsy-fartsy family, lol!

I'm a barista, and I work at a cafe in a private hospital. It's easy work, and I like the people I work with, but the hospital politics are a pain, and if I had something else to go to, I probably would.  I've been a Jillaroo (LOVED IT!) and a receptionist, and a vineyard maintenance worker, but I'm hoping to move back to something outdoor-sy, which probably won't ever happen because we live in the city now. :(

So dream job... to work under the sun :)

Never mentioned a dream job!

Ideally I want to work with bugs in some way. My goal is the bug zoo or seasonal live butterfly exhibit at my local museum. I see a lot of little girls who cringe at the bug zoo and I think a girl handling the "gross bugs" would take the edge off and help with a lot of fearful kids.

I am currently working part time at my veterinarian's office while I go to college to become a veterinarian myself.

If you have any questions, pm me!

I'm a mixed animal vet.  I love the randomness of my job, I currently work in a 3 vet clinic (including myself) and I'm the only vet willing to see thing other than the typical cats and dogs.  For example - yesterday I saw a guinea pig in respiratory distress (sad) then went out on a farm call to see a horse with an allergic reaction to vaccines.  My boss can be a bit difficult, but the fact I'm able to see horses really helps a lot!  The big thing I would like to see changed is I would like to be able to see reptiles!

I work in a medical laboratory. I process specimens and ship them to labs around the country for specialized testing. Dream job? Not really. Especially since I was the third grader who fainted during "The Magic School Bus inside the Human Body". Though I was terrified in the beginning (thinking I was going to faint having to handle blood), I am pretty used to it now. I've got a degree in English and Italian Literature, but I don't work in that field. When I moved to the UK after graduating, I ended up in the field that offers plenty of jobs for people with foreign language skills: customer service. I work for one of Britain's biggest online pet pharmacies, which is great because I love animals and I'm pretty passionate about their health. At the beginning of 2013, I was promoted to manager / teamleader, so rather than dealing with customers myself, I mostly advise my team on how to deal with them and liase with other departments, making sure everything runs smoothly. It's not my dream job, but it's a good job, and I work in a great team.

I am a registered nurse and I work in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.  It is stressful at times, sometimes I have 40 patients to take care of. It is very rewarding working with the elderly and so easy to love them. For some, the staff is the only family they have. It teaches you a lot and you have to be understanding and supportive of family members, as some are going through difficult times.  I only work saturday, Sunday and monday, so my schedule is great :). I love my job and love being able to help our senior citizens

My best job to date was a seasonal job at a restaurant on Mackinac Island, MI.  I met a lot of people from around the world and had a whole lot of fun, not to mention Mackinac Island is really fun.  Google it.  :)

I work at McDonald's, previously cooking but now only doing service. (I'm allergic to the gloves the grill team has to wear.)

Hey, me too!  However, they refused to move me out of grill, even on my doctor's suggestion.  Instead they ordered "salad gloves."  They're just like the blue gloves, but they're clear.  They are very loose and baggy and a real pain, but the terribly painful rashes I had on my wrists and all my fingers finally went away after about 3 months.  If you want to work back in grill, talk to them about ordering you some of these gloves.

Ooh, well that's cool... I get told at least once a week to just wear blue gloves, or blue gloves inside the grill gloves. But with blue gloves on I can't feel or grasp anything, which means I'll just go slower and slower. There's one manager who doesn't seem to believe that an allergic reaction is a big deal, despite the fact that my mom's reactions to the same materials lead to anaphylaxis shock and rotting skin. At this point I'd really just rather keep working in service though.

Yeah, if they won't take you seriously then don't worry about it.  My head manager said the same thing, that I'm too slow on line because of the gloves and I should wear them inside the normal gloves.  I tried it for 2 days and the rash started coming back anyway, so I slathered up with hydrocortisone cream to put a halt to it and now I won't touch those gloves in any way, shape or form.  They don't want me wearing the blue gloves on line.

I work out at a mental hospital. It s a very hard and challenging job sometimes. But I must really like it cause its been 6 years now on the job now! I work with the older people that have alzheimer's and dementia. I do have some wear and tear on my body now cause of the hard work of the job.

Before this job I worked at a call center for 3 year and could NOT do it anymore! People are so mean when they call in. I was coming home so angry all the time. I knew that I needed out!

I worked at a Godfathers while going threw high school along with a dollar Discount store. I loved both of them. I left both of them when I moved out of my parents house and into a different town. At this other town I worked a few different jobs. Got myself a CNA job from my aunt that is a nurse. I did not like the people that I worked with there. I moved back to my home town a year after leaving. I got my job back at GodFather's and worked there till I got the call center job. I would still be at Godfather's, its just that it did not pay enough.

My dream job would be to work at home. Not sure what I would do. Just hope that its something I would love :)

Thank you for the great offer!  I just finished my first year of general education, so I've got a ways to go before I actually get into vet school.  :P

I want to see all kinds of animals as well.  I live in a farming community, so I will be seeing plenty of cattle, horses, pigs, and other farm animals as well as cats and dogs.  I'd love to work with birds as well.

I work at Build-a-Bear! I am what they call a "bear builder" or BB. :P I stuff animals, greet customers, clean the floor, host parties, stock... everything but the register. Haven't been trained on that yet. I guess I could say this is the best job I've had so far because all the past ones I've worked have been boring (for me) data input office jobs. They were all obtained through my dad too so I also did not have the satisfaction of finding and getting my own job. I also meet loads of sweet and interesting people, and very funny kids.

My dream job would be to write for a living, particularly creative writing, but it's hard to make a full-time career out of that so my second choice would be a job in the marketing field which is my current major. My "if-I-could-do-anything-I-wanted-no-strings-attached-dream-career" would be as a fashion designer, but I haven't the actual talent for that.

I work as a cashier at a grocery store while going to college. I LOVE it. Most of that has to do with my previous job which left me feeling upset in many many ways. Everyone at my new workplace is so nice and professional. The work itself is easy, not taxing on my body, and pretty laid back.

I have an AS in Science and am getting ready to transfer for a BA in Chemistry and minor in Geology. I'm not sure where that is going to take me, but I do enjoy the work.

My DREAM job is to be a mom though. That feels like it's farther down the road than my BA is, I don't know how that'll work out. XD

I work in the Deli in a Tops supermarket  I HATE it. They decided to sell Boars head crap and they are such a pain in the ass about the way stuff is done

Dream Job - historic preservation or something like that. I have a BA in history and 1/2 through a MA in military history but ran out of $$

I'm currently still unemployed, which sucks financial wise, but is great for a hobby nut like me... still trying to get work. The brother in law is gonna try to get me into game stop which might be cool... but I really want to get in DickBlick, which I think I would enjoy more. I know more about what they sell, and... employee discount? Hellooo! Videogames, I don't know as much about anymore... so I dunno.

As for dream job? I wish I had one. Never really had any lofty goal in life. I just want to work somewhere that I know all the answers at, preferably with weekends off (I have a lot of weekend rituals- all geeky)... and if it involves art, or MY art, that much the better. I'm too much of a pessimistic realist to say "I wanna be an artist!" *shrug* I just don't see myself really doing anything with it besides just as something on the side for fun and the occasional commission.

So yeah, a simple job that I understand with a decent amount of routine, I'm a creature of habit and change makes me nervous. =/

I'm an administrative assistant for the Water Quality Control Division.  This means I assist the engineers that do inspections of waste water and drinking water facilities.

My favorite job was either teaching English in Japan on the JET Programme or working at a small town history museum -- besides working at the museum front desk and in the gift shop I got to lead ghost tours, add town ambiance in a hoop skirt and bonnet, and help with children's summer camps.

My dream job is being an author and artist full time while being able to pull my weight at home with what I earn.  (My husband is super supportive of this but I still don't feel comfortable putting all the bread winning on him while I "find my audience.")

I feel your pain! I worked at a deli for 2 years and they sold boars head. It made me hate going to work everyday. I loved my coworkers though, hated the manager. It made me never want to go back into food service again. Which I didn't and don't plan on it.

Im a failed claims technician for Cigna Home Delivery Pharmacy. IM not quite sure how to describe what I do besides fix peoples mess ups, I also do a lot of medicare reviews *sigh* lol. I really love my job though, for what I make and the people I work with and sometimes the patients are fun, I had one tell me she would buy me dinner if she lived here last night LOL.

My favorite job was working as a personal banker for US Bank, my customers were amazing and the job was super easy.

worst job EVER was Wells Fargo, I would rather be a hooker on the street than ever work for that company again lol, obviously im being dramatic but im not kidding when i say it was bad, their turnover rate is insane :)

Unemployed. Boo.

I had a job which I got just before Christmas but it just imploded on me.

I 'work' as a volunteer for one of the main animal charities in the UK, I am essentially a dog walker and 'cat cudddler' and go up there one day a week. I also go up to help my brother out as he's a 'media volunteer' which essentially means taking photos of the animals/

I'm a full time student. First year of A-Levels. One more year before uni. Hate it. Because of my health, I am a year behind my friends. I'm in the year below with immature jerks, and I am going to miss my friends so much. When I go back after study leave, they'll be gone and off to Uni. It makes me cry regularly. But I can't complain in a way, I wasn't ready for university anyway. I hadn't sussed myself out, and I need to do that before I can walk with my friends.

Currently I'm a Care aide ( Looks after seniors) The place I work at focuses on seniors with memory loss or dementia. I wake seniors up, and get them ready for the day, or get them ready for bed. I also serve them food in the dining room
At this job I also do housekeeping, which entails the usual, toliets, beds, dusting/vacuuming etc. This job I'm trained to clean rooms, be the dinning room prep lady, Dementia floor housekeeper (which includes, extracting carpets) I'm also trained to be the dishwasher here as well. As you see I wear many different hats in this building, but it's never boring. There's less then a dollar's difference in pay between the two jobs, so I really don't mind doing either.

My favorite job, well I'm also a trained masseur and I enjoyed my practicum work in the schools spa clinic.

My dream job is to go back to school and become an RMT (registered Massage Therapist). I would also like to be able to do something with my Art as well (I also have a visual arts diploma)

Right now I work in a print shop running a variable data printer that prints codes on medical packaging to prevent counterfeiting.  While I'm paid well and have full benefits now, my favorite job was working in pre-press at a different print shop making plates for offset printing presses.

Worst jobs: Working at TRU and Meijers in high school.  Dealing with the public sucks and so do the irregular hours they force you to work.  Facing shelves is psychological abuse!

My current job is in disability services, specifically residential care. I work in a house, usually with another staff member, and we help the residents go about their day doing personal care, cooking meals, organising outings, administering medication etc.

I really enjoy it because I always wanted to work in a job that involves helping people and feeling like what I do is meaningful. I also have a really good manager who is very supportive of her staff and has given me a lot of leeway now that I've gone back to study.

As for dream job...well, I'm currently doing my masters in clinical audiology so I guess working in a clinic or hospital. Right now I'm leaning more towards paediatrics but I'd like to get a bit more experience before I decide for sure.

I work at a chain pet store. I'm a cashier. It's a little mind-numbing but I love to visit with all the different dogs.

My favorite job was working at a chain bookstore.

My dream job is to be able to quit retail and work FULL TIME as an artist and writer. Right now, it's all part-time stuff.

You lucky dog! I would love to add that to my career list. Ridden and schooled all three breeds all my life.  :lovey: One day I plan to add at least "real horse owner" to my repetoire.
