Title: Dutch Vlinder Symbol Missing...opinions needed??
Post by: applejackbunny on May 11, 2013, 09:51:43 AM
I posted this a while ago in the Pony Corral but I had no pics at the time. I thought I'd post again with pictures so everyone can see what I mean  :)

I got my Dutch Butterfly pony quite a while ago on ebay but she only has her symbol on one side and it *really* doesn't look as if it was ever there - I mean if it had been rubbed off with acetone wouldn't you see a bit of a rubbed patch, I mean doesn't it leave a dull patch?

Anyway, I'll post my pics and I'd be really interested to hear if you think it's a factory error or if you think it's been removed....thanks!

In my opinion, she looks like a factory error. She's gorgeous though, definitely going on my wishlist!

Some symbols can be removed without leaving any kind of mark behind - I think it would be hard to prove she was a factory error.

It is possible to remove a symbol without a trace being left on the pony.  I think in this case though, if it came from a collector, then it might have been being prepped for a symbol restoration.  If it came from a random eBay seller, then I would definitely say there is great possibility of it being a factory error.

I have to agree that it would be difficult to prove, but I would not rule out the possibility.

She's still beautiful!

She did come from a "random ebay seller". I also find it odd that the rest of the pony shows no signs of wear (her eyes, hair, body and remaining symbol are near mint) so why would just the symbol on one side need restoration, or have been rubbed off deliberately? Not saying it has or hasn't, just trying to piece it together :) In reality of course, I'll never know, but it's fun to try and figure it out!

And yes, she is very beautiful and was one of my very first Nirvana ponies and I've had her for over 10 years - she's very special!

If you remove a symbol with aceton on newer g1 ponies like these, you won't see anything left behind. So it's difficult to tell. I came across a lot of dutch ponies on the dutch flea markets and I remember them from being in-store back in the '90's. Never saw some with on one side a missing symbol.

perhaps ask the seller where they go the pony from? :) that might be a clue.

I'm sure there's at least one other Vlinders with a missing symbol.

This is what I thought. I think it would be really weird if the symbol needed restoration, while the rest of the pony is so near mint. I would guess factory error. Looks cool!
