Does anyone ever find some ponies names don't really seem to match the pony?
Like I just found a G3 Velvet Bow, and I was thinking her name would be something star related as her symbol seems to be a compass rose type star with a heart in it.
How do you get 'Velvet Bow' from that? XD
-
Yeah, like the original six names don't match their ponies. Bonnie (the one who came up with my little pony) said she got to name them but she named them, not because of their symbols but just random names I think is what she said.
-
Yeah Minty (G1) looks more like a clover/lucky, Bluebelle has stars, Peachy/Snuzzle is hearts, Butterscotch is butterflies, cotton candy is just spots, the only one who's kinda right is Blossom with her flowers.
-
The Year 1 ponies are named for their body color, not their symbols :) The symbols were rather arbitrary. In fact if you look at the prototypes, the original six all had Cotton Candy's spots symbol. Only in Year 2 did Hasbro decide to match the name to the symbol.
I would say then Hasbro got more "loose" with the name/symbol connected as time passed!
-
But Butterscotch still kind of fits because she is butterscotch colored!
One that always gets me is Steamer. I mean, his name fits, but it reminds me of things that are too gross for the Arena. If you are mentally 13 years old like I am, you get it. That said, I think there are at least a dozen nicer names for a train Pony than Steamer. Tracks? Casey? (I also like this better than Slugger) Lionel? Whistle? Thomas? Anything but steamer!
-
Sundance is one I guess I don't get... I love her but... yeah, hearts and dots on her bum and white... I always thought she'd end up as a "Bride" release as a kid before there were the other bride ponies.
At least Steamer is called Tracks in other places... lol but I know what you mean...

"Tracks" can also have negative connotations. I think they should have just called him "Whistler"!

I think the same about 'Floater' but at least you can get the connection to the symbol with these ones!

and there's poor Star Glow with the most boring name ever.
I call her Moonlight Sonata. Makes much more sense with her piano symbol.
(And Velvet Bow was released with a velvet hat that had a bow on it.)
-
Woosie! What do mice have to do with feeling that way? Spiked cheese? XD
-
The sparkly sweetheart sisters don't make sense. I think they mixed them up! Sunblossom should be the one with the suns. Starflash should have the stars. Bright night and Twinkler both don't fit any of the ponies except the one with the stars.
-
G2 Honey. I've said it before and I'll say it again: her cutie mark, it isn't bees, it isn't honeycomb... it's a freaking carrot.
This pony is pink with pink and red/white hair (can't remember which exactly). Hasbro was being really silly with that one.
Actually, okay, they were being silly with almost all of G2. There were many ponies that they couldn't even come up with a proper name for (Miss Painter, Miss Teacher, Countryside Pony, etc.). Spring didn't make much sense, nor did Nightshine (bright colors and a ball? Really, Hasbro?).
-
I think this all the time! Mainly when my mum picks up a pony, looks at its symbol and renames it something much more appropriate than its real name! For me a lot of the Newborn Twins make no sense at all...Doodles & Noodles? Speckles & Bunkie? Huh?
-
The white G2 twins that came with wand symbols and magic hats. Why, call them Giggles and Wiggles! :P
-
Tumbleweed. She needs a tumbleweed on her! I was so disappointed.
Milkweed is the same thing. Great names if they had the right symbols.
-
Maybe it's because ponies get their names before they get their symbols. Hasbro is just trying to add a little realism. :P
-
for me, TE Bright Eyes will *always* be Tic Toc, lol, her name always seemed so generic! Of *course* her eyes are bright, she's a Twinkle Eye pony!
-
I don't Fire Fly's name, she has lighting bolts as her symbol! Not bugs!

This!! I always get them confused because their names should be switched
And I agree with Hathorcat, the NBT have some of the strangest names. And Doodles and Noodles make me think of babies with noodles coming out of their nose for some reason :yucky: Some of the G2s have really strange names too.

This happened the other day.
I quizzed my S/O about Wigwam when I got his Headdress in the mail I was like "Do you know who this one is?" and he said "Yes! That's chief!" I said "Chief is the other one, this is wigwam"
"Then why is he dressed like a chief?"
Haha. Truedat!
