Title: My ebay curse. Now I'M going to demand cheer me up pictures!
Post by: Marlin on April 23, 2013, 04:58:48 PM
Ok - fully admit it... I am just venting. But OMG I am so miffed right now!

I've seen other threads where people will talk about their frustrations with ebay. I'm gonna join the herd. It's not a gripe about ebay and its functions - just my plain bad luck, really. EVERY TIME it is just a case of a $1 more that someone else was prepared to bid! Granted, I can't be sure just how much more they were prepared to go to - they might have won by a dollar more, but it could have been $15 more if I had kept going up a bit at a time.

I really am just whining. A lovely buy now got taken up which I would have gone for only I didn't know the shipping cost and risked asking the seller who instead of replying took a best offer from someone else HOURS later (it's not like the pony got snapped up in an instant). And moments ago I miss out on a lovely Perfume Puff who went OH SO CHEAP compared to what she normally would go for!!!! Trouble is, I have to factor in shipping otherwise it becomes a totally uneconomical pony to buy (my problem, I know). I knew there was a good chance I wouldn't get her - but I'm almost livid that the winning bid was only a $1 more than my hopeful one!!! Congrats whoever you are who won that much coveted pony. I'm just being a sore loser, I guess.

Sooo... pics, people!!! Show me something! Something that other people will enjoy, too. How about some ponies who you fought hard for. Wanted forever and finally got! Could be anything - something that was just full on satisfaction when you finally got them! Throw your story in too, for good measure!  :)

Awww! You're a sweetie - thanks! Feeling better already  :)

I just dug out a photo of a pony I had longed for for ages. She was another who I kept missing out on on ebay, to my immense frustration. Eventually, one of my favourite sellers here on the arena told me she had her - and voila - Baby Honeycomb was finally mine!! One of the ponies in my collection who I was simply over the moon to finally have!

How about a happy ending eBay story?

My lovely Mimic. I won her on eBay (no fights or anything) but about a year later I was hard up for cash and sold her (along with a few other trophies.) I got talking with the winner and told her about the Arena. She joined! Yay! About six months later, I was sorely missing my Mimic and imagine my surprise when the very same buyer offered to sell her back to me.  So I got my Mimic back and made a new pony friend along the way! (And she included this wonderful green pedestal too! :cheer:

Once this person & I were fighting over this British mag with Ralph Fiennes years ago  & in those days I had money, so I won, then right after the seriously intelligent, I'm serious , seller just listed another one.    You learn a lot on eBay. recently I didn't bid on some pony I wanted & had the same experience, it went for some ridiculously low amount even these days I could afford. You know what they say you can't win if you're not in.BTW bid on auctions on small holiday weekends, nobody is home, bad timeing for selling, good for buying.I also fought for a Kosmic Kiddle & nobody can bid fight like me when I've got money  & I'm the comeback kid. My daughters say I screamed "Yes!!!!!!!!" but I too sold the Kiddle with ship & rock after I got t-boned. I couldn't get..Dallas

somebody had already, woa, I managed to get two later, one being a bin for $10 on eBay, I'm a coward will do BIN if  offered. Right now, I'm trying to sell 3 or 4 former grails to get one. :(

that little rant person is too funny

My first grail pony, and the crown jewel of my collection. She was the first one that I had seen on eBay for under $100, so I tossed a bid in just for fun. There were 18 hours left in the auction, so surely I'd be outbid. Right? Imagine my shock when 18 hours passed with no further bids! I guess it was just meant to be. :hearts:

It's great reading these stories and seeing those piccies  ^.^ And thanks for the tips, too! Ebay is just a bane, really! I know everyone has bad runs - I'm just getting a bit tired of mine lol!

Clones - your Mimic is so pretty! One day I shall have her!  :P

I have had good luck and bad on ebay, but most recently it has been very good! I nabbed two large lots of G1's for only about $2 per pony  :frolic: Hear is the heap that just arrived! There's even two Italians in there! They were listed as mostly bait but I've not found many flaws that can't be easily fixed by a run though the spa.

A lot of ones I don't need in there but a lot I do as well! I'll be selling off the extras once they are all cleaned up, and this will just fund more ponies

or this girl I got a while ago BIN for $5~ she had no hair but that didn't upset me any!

No pic as yet but I got my re-haired Mimic for £54.00 (including delivery). I put in my bid just before I started work one morning so it was about 4.55am (i start at 5am) and the bid was ending at 5.30am.

I have my issues with ebay, there are people who can set up a thing to bid just before a sale ends so you have to keep seriously close eye on sales of some ponies. And when sellers are vague about shipping costs and you have to ask about it and might lose because of the time it takes some of them to answer.

And the sellers who take ages to post something and don't answer your message asking if they've posted it like the seller of the CP Bowtie I'm waiting for who hasn't bothered answering me. It doesn't take two minutes to say 'its in the post' or 'I'm posting it on this day'

I way overpaid on this girl, but I just HAD to have her when I saw her. I've always loved the soda sippin' ponies, and this girl is just so minty. When I saw she had a working float, I was hooked!

Ugghh I cant stand that either on ebay! :0 Sometimes I get outbid by a few cents!!!!!  I fought really hard for my SDCC 2012 Ditzy-Derp! I was lucky to get her under $100 in the box but dang did I sweat as I watched time eat the minutes away in red! Its like... every second it counted down was a huge tick tock in my brain!

I know your frustration there, I keep trying to get a hold of a G1 Birthday girl.. :( but the ending hours are always so odd that I can't make a snag bid so I've lost 4 times on her *UGH!* but eventually I'll get her..

Just takes patience darling!

I've had to go cold turkey on ebay for a while. Been spending waaaay too much.

Maybe I'm weird, but I love staying awake at all hours to watch the last hour of an auction, and it doesn't bother me that much if I don't win.

There's an odd auction up there at the moment for a Pinkie Pie. Not sure what one it is though because there are two different versions of Pinkie shown in the pic. Right facing inkie is a Valantine's version, and left facing pinkie is a crystal empire one with the new head style and gem highlights in the eyes.
I tried to ask the seller which pony they were actually selling and they didn't understand what I was talking about.

I hate asking questions and getting the whole 'i don't understand your question' back. I'm probably a really annoying ebayer too because if I see a pony listed under the wrong name I send the seller a message to tell them the right name. And when I see ponies and the seller says they don't know the names of them I tell them the names. I'm just trying to be helpful but I'm sure I annoy them.

I can stare at ebay for hours, it bothers me when I lose a bid on a pony that i really really really want.

My Greek Bluebelle. Ok, so I didn't really fight hard to get her, but she is a fun story. A pony pal of mine posted the link to her auction on her facebook page. We were all chatting about how it sucks when a good deal comes up on ebay and you don't have the money. She bad a BIN, and she was gone within 3 hours of her being posted on facebook. A few days later my husband and I were talking, and he told me that he was sorry, but he got me something for Valentines Day. (I don't like V-day). He told me that it was something that I mentioned that I had wanted within the last week. After guessing for about 36 straight hours he says to me, "You didn't tell me you wanted it....you were telling other people." For some reason I said, "The only thing I can think of is that Greek Bluebelle." He said, "Ah she's Greek, that's why she's coming from Greece." I couldn't believe it. He had saw the facebook posts, and went and bought her for me!

This girl on the other hand was a thrilling win for me! I had lost out on so many auctions for her. Then a year ago right around my birthday, I saw her up for sale. She has a trimmed tail, and I guess that that turned a lot of people off. I threw up a bid of $25, and won her! She was a birthday present to myself. I actually like her bobbed tail. lol

Just yesterday. I missed a pegasus Ploomette that ended up going for a great price. You just have to remember that ponies will come around again! In the throes of post-auction frustration that doesn't help much, but you'll get a chance again.

Once, I saw Beautiful Bows going really cheap and I thought I'd give it a go. I fought someone on Ebay over her in the very last seconds and the other person won. By 50p.

I repeat. 50p.

But oh well, that's Ebay life ! I usually win it all, so I can't really complain :)

On the bright note, I fought for Princess Sparkle as well and I got her ! :D Man, I wanted this pony since I was a child (she was one of my grails, really) and I was really excited to finally have her~

I hate when that happen. I was so sure I was gonna get a really minty G2 Miss Painter last week, but someone else bidded the last 5 seconds. >_<

I don't have any pics yet, but I bought 4 of the Dutch Baby ponies from ebay. They were a little over priced but I'm so glad I found them. I'm only missing Baby Rabbit.

Ohhh I never "fight" for my ponies.  I simply am more than willing to throw cash at what I want.

If I am watching an auction, you had better believe I will bid my absolute max - with shipping already calculated.  If I want it, I'm not bidding at the asking price - I'm bidding at least $10 over what I expect the deal to go for.  I'm not looking for the deal - I want my pony!  :-p

I imagine there are others like me... I bet if Hathorcat and I went at it over an accessory, we would have one happy seller!  :D

It happens too often I bid my max and get outbid at the last seconds LOL
but sometimes I get to win them the same way , is just the time of the bid ending
sometimes you can not be there for it, but If I'am I do my best to bid at the end.
if I'm not there, then I bid my max and forget about it,if I win great,if I don't...then there will be another one ....or not !!!!aRGGJJJJHHH
LOL
sometimes rare ones won't come around again .
I lost one time an orange carriage euro release and I have not ever seen one again :(
it was the reason I joined here and I was able to get it from Germany with the help of a very nice Arena Member
It was not cheap and it was not easy to get it,so sometimes you have to factor that in, if it is rare,it might be a nightmare to get one .
so that is when you have to jump on the cell and be there for the end LOL

:)I was able to score some G2's this week ,it was not easy to win them and I had to even set up my max , I was about to get outbid for 34 cents, and it took 2 dllrs more to win it :)!!!

pony business is serious business :) but lots of fun too :)

I imagine there are others like me... I bet if Hathorcat and I went at it over an accessory, we would have one happy seller!  :D

ROFL...oh my goodness how well you know me :P

That was exactly what I was going to say. I always do a happy dance when I get a pony...but some accessories...I have literally run around my house making squeeing noises. If its an accessory I have been looking for for a long time or have never seen up for sale, you can bet I ll be winning that at all costs lol...I ll then kick myself for a week for spending so much...then it will arrive and I will do the dancing around the house.

Although the best item recently was a dutch baby barrette which I got after a trade with the awesome Daffy :) Now that was a happy day!

I know it sucks at this time Marlin - while I ll admit I am that crazy ebay bidder myself, there have been times I have grossly underestimated an ending price and missed out. So  - I hope you get a bargain soon.

I don't have any photos, but just two days ago, I was in a bidding war with someone over a lot of 4 ponies. It was my grail, the pink Eyelash Princess in it. >.>

I lost by 50 cents, if that much. I couldn't get my bid up in time. I was so mad.

But then Himmie stepped in on here and traded me the pink Eyelash Princess.
So, grails complete! <3 adore Himmie.

Stock image because she hasn't arrived yet, but I recently won Nightmare Moon for less than £10 :D The only way I ever bid on ebay is to think of what I want my maximum bid to be, then snipe it. Otherwise I'm going to leave time for another user to get in a bid war with me, and I would always lose because I'm poor at the moment xD I never bid when there's more than 6 seconds to go. Of course, I still lose when someone else has already put in their maximum bid and it's higher than mine, but I was not prepared to pay more than them before, and by not leaving myself the time to bid again I make sure I don't keep bidding to win and overpaying.

Adorable rats, Ravengusty!

I just lost an ebay auction for this girl.

tried to bid and ebay suddenly decided I needed to log in again. By the time everything reloaded the action was over...
But the pony went for TWICE as much as I was going to bid anyway.
There must have been a heap of bidding in the last few seconds! She went from $30 to over $130.

Ok, finally. Here´s my best Ebaystory that happend a while back:
I had been looking at this lot that didn´t ship abroad, but I couldn´t stop watching it. I mailed the seller asking her if she could consider shipping to Sweden, but I never got an answer. When it was less than an hour left I realized that I could ask for help at the Arena...! So I did and Partypony offered to help me! But at the same time the seller replied, and she told me she could ship to Sweden but that because people were already bidding she couldn´t change the settings and she didn´t know how to add my ID to the biddinglist. Right now there is like 10 minutes left of the auction. I search Ebay for instructions and ends up in a chat-conversation with their support. (I have never gotten help at the Arena before, so I was a bit stressed about the whole thing with just a few minutes left and don´t knowing the right procedure. So I really wanted to bid by myself.) When it is 4 minutes left of the auction I manage to copy-paste the intructions and send them to the seller and she adds me to the list of bidders. AND I WIN THE AUCTION!
I have never had so much adrenaline in my body before in my whole life! And the lot had like 4 of my grails!
 :frolic:

So sorry that happened to you. I'm sure the ponies you're looking for will turn up some way, some how. It happened to me...

I saw this girl on ebay last fall going for ~8 dollars with free shipping; I was stupid and didn't buy her when I had the chance. So, I ended up scouring listings for the next six months trying to find one with a reasonable price, as she quickly went up to 40 dollars on BINs and higher on auctions. I was especially worried when I heard she was an international release, since the last thing I wanted to do was jump through hoops to get her shipped to me. Luckily, I found a 15 dollar listing in March and bought her the second I saw her. So keep looking, I'm sure your ponies will come around eventually. :)

With ebay in general i have this curse where if i bid too far away from the end date the price ROCKETS with other bidders but if i snipe at the last minute i can get things at their low price. it;s annoying that i cant just bid and leave it anymore. XD but there is always some fun in sniping. :D

I have lost so many ponies auctions by just a few cents!!! I hate it and would get very upset about it a while back. But now I just put in my max bid. And if I get out bided then it was not to me. Sorry to hear that your not having much luck on there.

I see a lot of ponies on there that are very pretty!
