Title: Alternate Generation Swap - FINISHED
Post by: Miserati on April 18, 2013, 06:13:21 PM
Alternate Generation Swap

Hello, it's time for an Alternate Generation Swap! What does that mean? Well, you take a pony from an existing generation and recreate the design onto a different generation. For example: A G4 Fluttershy made into a G2 Fluttershy or a G1 Rosedust made into a G3 Rosedust. This is a swap intended for existing ponies so no original characters or ponysonas please.

This is made to be a pretty simple swap with just paint and rehairing. Of course there may be minor sculpting such as wings or unicorn horns and it could scale up from there depending on if your partner has a list full of merry go round ponies but for the most part it should remain fairly simple and therefor the timeframe reflects as much with the work time being under 9 weeks. In the swap form you will be able to specify what generations and ponies you'd prefer and other details.

Examples
Peach Blossom & Morning Glory as G4s (http://i1086.photobucket.com/albums/j450/harvestasya/pbmg.jpg) by Miserati
Breezie Fizzy (http://simplysteffie.deviantart.com/art/MLP-TE-Fizzy-Breezie-304610648) by Simplysteffie

Swap Rules

01. You must have at least 5 Arena feedbacks. E-bay SELLER feedbacks are welcome for 2 of these. Meaning you can have 3 Arena feedback and use 2 SELLER feedbacks from eBay. No Buyer feedbacks from eBay are permitted.
02. All swappers must have made and posted customs within the last 6 months.
03. The shipping date will be July 1st.
04. The deadline for signups will be May 2nd or until we have 15 participants. There will be check in points along the way and you MUST check in. If I cannot get ahold of you for check-ins you will be omitted from the swap, will not receive a pony and appropriate feedback shall be left by me. If for some reason you will be out of town or unable to get to a computer to check in for these times, you must check in PRIOR to the check in date. With that you are expected to keep track of these dates. Although I will take the appropriate actions to get a hold of you for these dates, it's expected that you check in on time and communicate.
05. Partners will be chosen based on skill level. I will do the best that I can at matching by skill- my partner list will be sent to a mod, who can make any changes to partners they think needs to be made.
06. Sign ups start on April 25th and will go for either 1 week (May 2nd) or until we reach our maximum of 15 people.
07. Life happens to everyone. If, after you join, you find you are unable to complete your pony, for any reason, please PM me immediately! I would much rather know sooner than later so I can work on getting a replacement partner or make a replacement myself.
08. Partners are to remain a SECRET. That is the basis and suprise of a swap. Do not contact your partner to ask questions directly. Any questions you have you can either message me (Miserati) or ask a general question in our swap thread and hope your partner responds.

DEADLINES:
Gauging Interest- after approval, sign-ups will begin April 25th and last til May 2nd or until we have reached 15 people.
Check in #1- May 31st
Check in #2- June 21st
Ship- July 1st. Finished ponies need to be approved before mailed!

If someone drops out last minute or went MIA for mailing- their partner WILL still receive something, even if I have to personally make them something myself.

Shipping:
Customs must be well packed for shipping.
Do not use newspapers, paper towels or colored tissue paper in direct contact with the completed custom. (It can stick or cause discoloration.)
Do not ship customs that are sticky/tacky or not fully dry.
Do use some sort of padding like bubble wrap, white tissue paper, peanuts, etc.
*KEEP your receipt/tracking numbers when you mail your custom off, this may be the only proof you have in the event it is lost. This rarely happens, but it has happened.*

Other:
Please make sure the dates and rules are acceptable to you before you apply.

figure if i knocked this one private swap out in 3 days (woulda been 2 if i didnt have to run out for this glitter tomorrow) then i should be able to handle this one as well =P

ooh just now realized there wasnt a question for which generation you prefer to work with... for me i prefer to customize G1 and G3, tho i have worked with G4 and dont really mind it- theyre just so teeny!

Title: G1 to G4 princess
Post by: Aednatia on May 01, 2013, 01:01:01 PM
So I was just wondering with the Alt. Gen. Swap upon us if my partner were to list any princess ponies, I'm not sure what I would do.

example say Princess Tiffany was on it. Would you keep her a Pegasus or turn her into an Alicorn/Unipeg?

[moving to Customs ~ many thanks ~ hathorcat]

Merged with Swap Thread (Poll removed to prevent confusion) Thanks! ~ CSA
Title: Re: G1 to G4 princess
Post by: PandaBerryInSpace on May 01, 2013, 01:08:07 PM
Turning them to an alicorn would be an interesting twist, especially keeping with the updated MLP canon. If your partner is like me, and wants something creative and different in their custom, then go for it! However, if your partner is one who prefers to keep things true to the original, stick with regular sized Earth pony -- they put them on the list because they liked them as-is, and they probably don't want such a dramatic change!

(By the way, to anyone who ends up being my partner in the swap, feel free to make my pony an alicorn, or do any sort species change, I don't care at all! :P)

Quoted, because I agree. I know I couldn't decide! But I imagine some people would hate to see G1s as alicorns. Just ask every single swap member, then pick out your partner's answer. :)

I'd keep them the same, as I feel they would be 'lesser' princesses. Not full royalty with a power over something in Equestria, but rather as, something lower, like real princesses while Celestia and Luna and the like are more like queens.

the questions thus far: celestia style princess ponies- i dont mind really. if theyre well done then either way is fine by me.

order of importance: pretty sure mines random. XD i just spent the day thinking and jotting names down, so yeah, pick whichever one tickles your fancy.

Question: So when you all made your favorite 5 list, did you put your favorite first or does it matter?

Nope doesn't look like I did. I kinda randomly chose from my want list.

>edited>changed my idea so the question below no longer needs to be answered.

My partner listed a rainbow pony..would you be interested in a backwards rainbow-  pink, purple, blue, green?

>update> Ideas done, bait already in stock.. need to order hair..

hmm... backwards rainbows are fine by me. not really a stickler for color order unless im making a replica etc so yeah... for me i like factory ish but with artistic wiggle room, so dont worry too much! =]

yes, i put mine in order of favorites. makes sense to list favorites that way, to me that is.

another question: do you want your g3s turned g1, g2 or g4 to have the tinsel in their hair or no tinsel?

Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: Eluluu on May 03, 2013, 01:05:30 PM
to tinsil, or not to tinsil:

honestly whichever you think looks good is fine by me, im kinda leaning toward yes on tinsil- but only in the case of princess-type ponies, but i know it can be a bit of a pain to work with, so if you wanted to just do a pinch of 'brilliant' hair or some substitute like that id prolly be fine with it. or just leave it off. its not a huge deal =P

I *think* my favorite was listed first, I just tried to pick one from each gen. rather than top favorites 'cause I like variety in my customs. Also, tinsel is cool w/ me if my partner feels inclined. If not that's ok too.

I've got my pony picked out, & a bait. I just need to get started ;P

my bait box is still on some removal truck somewhere out there - might have to get a bait from somewhere else... *peeks over to the most recent boot sale find ponies*

my preferences would be any of the first 3 really - but mainly because they are my army ponies ;-) the last two are two of my favourite ponies anyway - so I'd be more than happy to receive one of them too. just go for it!
love tinsel, but no tinsel is fine too.

same with the gen swap - thats fine to me. i think my chosen unis would look strange as non-unis, but just convince me ;-)

The first pony is almost finished -- just waiting on some hair. As for the second pony, the body is painted, but the head needs redone, since the first try had a bumpy patch on the side.

quick question that just kinda clarifies one of the previous ones asked... if one of the ponies you listed you wanted turned G3... lets say for example, Lofty as a G3... would you like it if i were to glitter her up in G3 style, meaning the wings would be glittered... or if you wanted... (another random example) Moondancer as G3, would you be adverse to the glittered horn and nose-blaze?

just seeing if the G3 touches would be ok or if you just want it more G1 on the new form than the G1 as a true G3... if that makes sense...

so yeah its just another spin on the 'to glitter or not to glitter"...

I'm not a G3 fan of any ways so nothing G3 for me :) But if on other generations, that's fine

glitter or no glitter on the symbol is fine either way, but no to the crazy glitter all over the g3s wings and horn/nose.

Non glitter is fine with me, though I would like the breeds to stay the same. ie: peg-peg. uni-uni

another question. you know how a lot of the g3 bodies are shimmery, do you want your g1, g2 or g4 to have the same body look if using a g3 pony?
Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: Eluluu on May 09, 2013, 06:05:24 PM
shimmery or flat... both are fine by me. i kinda like the shimmery look on G3s but without is perfectly fine as well. =P

Bumping from the second page! :P

I decided that I'm just going to scrap the second pony for now -- I didn't like it. I might decide to make a second one later. Either way, I love how the first pony is coming along; I'm ridiculously proud of it. I'm still waiting on that hair.

I'm waiting on hair too!! But I expect to wait a while still.

In the meantime I have one 90% finished. Just need to do some minor sculpting. And I have 2 other baits picked out that I'm not sure what I'm doing with yet.

Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: StrawberryMeadow on May 14, 2013, 03:56:25 AM
I'll just do as many as I get though tbh. Seeing as it's not even first check-in and I've finished one, no reason not to make more IMO. Replicas are easier for me because someone has already told me exactly what to do, no thought process or planning needed. Ya kno?

But I don't expect to get all the ponies on my list, I'm doing it 'cause I enjoy it. I love a challenge!

LOL I just ordered hair from a new site and I get a message that all my hair is on back order till the 16th.. well two days isn't so bad.. BUT I'm positive I know where they are getting their hair from and I chose not to go through them cause they were out, and I was hoping this site would have some sitting on the shelf. So this should be interested waiting game. I really hope the main distribution that told me they were out will sell to the store at least.. other wise I wasted a week waiting for hair.
Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: babyblueducky on May 14, 2013, 12:05:37 PM
i got 2 ready. i was planning on one, but i got two baits that were in the pose my partner likes. i was able to make 2 off the list that was simple enough for me to make. i think its because making an existing pony is faster and easier to make than a themed custom.

My bait is prepped, goin out colormatching when the bf gets home... I actually don't have this color! Getting a bit of a late start but I now have all other prior obligations wrapped up and I work fast. I'm gonna shoot for two customs myself =)
Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: Aednatia on May 15, 2013, 09:24:52 AM

Two. My partner listed two that are really simply and I have plenty of baits (although no hair) One will be my second ever full body repaint so another reason I wanted to do two is just in case the repaint looks bad and she gets scrapped

I feel like I'm really behind already.  (stupid hair order)

Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: tsukikakushi on May 15, 2013, 09:33:30 AM
You're not behind, I've just started :P My bait has been sitting prepped for 2 days, but today is painting day! I'll probably do 2 ponies 'cause they're relatively simple. The only thing that takes me forever is hair.
Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: Unicorn_pops on May 15, 2013, 09:38:08 AM
Undecided about how many. Really want to complete the first one really well and not rush thinking I have to do more. I've had my bait prepped now for forever but have yet to start on it. Trying to find out it's hair color match.

Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: StrawberryMeadow on May 16, 2013, 01:21:17 AM
So last night I felt pony-inspired. I had a lot of 6 g4 baits and a G3 I needed to boil and get the heads/hair/plugs/tough glue out of. So I spray the G3 body, leave it to dry and go downstairs. Halfway through the process (all heads de-haired, 3 plugs out so far) I was dealing with a tough-muther AJ neck plug, and I'm thinking to myself "having my finger wrapped around her like this makes it much more stable, and it makes me more careful too so I won't cut the chest..."

well I'm sure you know what's coming....

Yeah the knife flew out through her chest plastic and straight INSIDE my finger. The. Whole. Knife. Blade. Into the fleshy bit at the bottom of my left index finger.

So there was blood, flesh parts, sadness and a ruined top and a destroyed AJ.

Guess my second pony is on hold for a little while. *le sigh*

Hairing pony #1,  which brings me to the next question... hair length: factory, a little longer than factory, or SLH?

Me, I prefer slightly longer than factory, but not crazy long unless it's a BnG or winger. =)

Little longer than factory for me too.

So got the FBR done and the symbols painted. Had to order some hair since the pony required more than I had ;) Still undecided about making two or not. Just seeing how the first one turns out.

Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working

long hair is lovely as long as it gets washed and styled nicely. As in dried with a hairdryer and brushed out straight or properly curled. Long hair that's still greasy from the bag can make ponies look so cheap  I also hate when Nylon does that lumpy thing, where it gets all the kinks in it when it's not dried being pulled.

HOW BITCHY DO I SOUND?! :yikes:

Between the two, I'd say go with thickness
Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: babyblueducky on May 28, 2013, 09:57:06 PM
hmmmm.... thickness can sometimes cause them to be weight heavy, depending on the pony and gen. either is fine, a tad more longer or thicker.
Title: Re: Alternate Generation Swap - Working
Post by: Aednatia on May 29, 2013, 01:10:38 PM
A little bit thicker. G3 and G1 are pretty good about havin a decent amount but the G4s are to thin.

I dropped my pony on the floor, paint was still wet.. So half an hour later of cleaning with anger/touch of crying- I'm getting an airbrush.. YAH

I got two beautiful Ponies in the mail today! I love your first ever G4 :) I'm guessing my partner was Stormpony. I got your note but didn't have your arena name on it but your last name was Storm and they came from Australia ;)  So Thank you so much Stormpony!! Please show off those ponies!

I got mine. I was spoiled by ApetureScience with a G4 Fashion Style G1 Button

I'm glad you like them PandaBerryinSpace, I was soo worried. Crayon pony is fragile and kept cracking paint.

There's still a handful of people who haven't received yet but no worries! Everyone has been checked in for a while, it's most likely because your package is international.
