Title: Dispute help?
Post by: Vertefae on April 11, 2013, 06:06:45 AM
I purchased some fabric on Etsy on March 21st. On April 1st I tried to contact the seller to see if they had shipped. No response. So I opened a claim on April 4th. It was escalated to a dispute on April 7th. Today magically a tracking number shows up in paypal showing the package was mailed from China on April 8th. Paypal is asking me to respond. But it only gives me the option of canceling or changing the reason. I'm not going to cancel this. How do I know that the package was what I ordered? I don't know what do to. Theres no spot for me to sent a message to paypal. It does say that paypal hasn't checked the tracking number yet. So should I just wait?

With paypal tracking has to show delivery.  If it doesn't then you might as well not have it.  I'd wait till they try to verify that the package was delivered because when they can't they should rule in your favor.

I wonder since they provided a tracking number that it is giving you the option to change the reasoning? Because I would definitely not cancel it.  Is there some sort of options under that or do you manually have to type something in?  I am just curious.

But in terms of the dispute itself, I am pretty sure once it has been escalated to a claim, Paypal will review it and make a decision within 20 days.  It's sooner in most cases but since they provided a shipping number it may change.  Thus asking you to change the reasoning or cancel it.  Have you tried tracking the package to see if it really was shipped?

okay, thank you! I wasn't sure if that was what would happen or if they would close the case since there was a tracking number. I will NEVER order from them again. If I had known it was coming from China I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. And then on top of that, taking so long to ship. I think if I hadn't of escalated it, they would have never shipped at all.

ponylady- the tracking number says:

CHINA PEOPLES REP

and this is what the dispute looks like in paypal.

It indeed looks like it was shipped but sweet baby jesus what the heck took so long  I think your right that if you had not opened a case they never would have shipped.

Anyways I would just leave it open for now and not respond until the package actually arrives.  Because I am taking the change reasoning option is if you receive it and it was not as described. And when it does it arrive you may have to use that option. Let's hope not but if you cancel it and it never arrives or is grossly misrepresented you will not be able to reopen the claim.

I wouldn't worry much in terms of Paypal not siding with you though in the long run.  It most likely will end in your favor if there are any more issues.

Nothing like shipping on time eh? good gravy. I would keep an eye out for the package. They do have a habit of not updating until it's out for delivery. You might see it this week or next.

Its being reviewed by Paypal. The package hasn't moved at all.

I'd sit back and let Paypal refund you.  If the package hasn't arrived yet and they are investigating by this point, it's unlikely it will arrive in time!   Waiting weeks to ship, after you pay... *shakes head*

Paypal closed the dispute. They said they couldn't find in my favor. They did however refund me. I'm confused.

  *Blink*  now that *is * confusing!  unless they refunded you themselves rather than taking the money back from the seller since you didnt have the item, but there is proof it was shipped?  :drunk:    still I'm glad you got your money back

It is most likely a courtesy refund by them.

Well that's nice I suppose. Should I leave feedback or wait and see if anything ever arrives? And what type of feedback would you leave?

I think the purchase was covered by the buyer protection through paypal (its like an insurance) they couldn't find in your favor because evidence of tracking was provided-

I suspect you will get your item, there was another long holiday in China that slowed everything down at the beginning of April-

I always find it annoying to discover (only upon completion of my purchase) that the Etsy seller I have purchased from is overseas-  I try to look carefully these days but it is tricky.

So if the package does eventually show up, I don't need to repay the seller since it wasn't her that refunded me? I don't want to have something I didn't pay for. I didn't know she was international until the tracking number came through paypal.

You *could*, since Paypal will likely chase after her for the fees for refunding you out of their pocket.  But definitely leave honest feedback first!

Jeez...that's worrying!  The only thing I have noticed in the past when I have ordered from China, is that it will keep saying it's still there forever. And then BOOM! It's in the states and in customs. Hopefully that will be the case for you.
