Has anybody heard any good rumors about the 2013 SDCC Pony? We had lots of good TaoBao leads at this time last year, and I'm super excited to see what Hasbro has in store for us this year! :)
-
all ive seen are posibly mrs cake or the pink baby but dont quote me on that these arejust guesses
-
Some one also found a glittery Wysteria and Pinkie Pie. I am hoping for a set of those personally, preferably with characters that range from all gens. If that is the case, it could also explain why the price has gone up.

i forgot about those those seem more likely now that i think about it
-
The only rumors about SDCC or MLP's 30th anniversary I've read so far have involved Equestria Girls. -_-
-
Theres going to be another SDCC pony!? With how successful the Ditzy-Derp G4 fashion style from last year was, is it safe to say it will most likely be another G4? =) Part of me wishes they would release Derp again since I missed out on her last year! Probably not possible- I guess they release a different one every year?. That glitter Wysteria or Pinkie would be awesome! I could see Mrs Cake being some sort of promo like that, but I already ordered her off of ebay as a loose! Be cool if she came in a Sugar Cube Corner shaped box! x_x
Vagas Rarity!? =P I wish they would release that! Wait no, scratch that- they should release Minty or Sweetie Blue! =O *in my dreams*
-
I really think we are going to get Pinkie Pie and Wysteria in a set. Maybe they will also include a couple others too! They seem pretty special edition-y to me.
-
I personally think it would be really weird to have Wysteria be any part of it. I assume that they will probably have another pony the brony crowd will appreciate, and of course most bronies won't know who she is. And even if, by some chance, they were catering to us collectors...why Wysteria? While she did get several re-releases and I think she was the Crystal Princess or something (?) it still seems like a random choice for the SDCC exclusive.
That said, I don't have any better predictions. LOL.
-
30th anniversary ponies would be much better... everyone should be able to get those not only ppl who are able to visit the SDCC =)
*please hear me Hasbro!* ;)
-
Why wouldn't bronies appreciate some Crystal Empire ponies? That one has a recognizable G3 cutie mark is just a bonus. Or maybe Wysteria is actually a character that will be in the show for season 4?
-

I am assuming that they will do what they did last year and have the fair exclusive and sdcc exclusive be the same. And since it is the 30 anniversery, I am hoping the exclusive will reflect this.
Both Wysteria and Pinkie Pie were among the first set of G3 ponies released. If they are going to release a set to celebrate the anniversery, I could certainly see Hasbro trying to please both collectors and Bronies by putting ponies in the set that would appeal to both.
Here are my thoughts. Lets say that there are 6 playful size ponies in the set. If they include two g4 ponies it would undoubtedly be Pinkie and Rainbow Dash. Not only are those two very popular with bronies but they also were both in the first set of g3 characters ever released. Then say that they include two other characters from the first set of G3. We have already seen Wysteria. After Pinkie and RD, Wysteria is one of the most popular characters from that set. And who is another extremely popular pony from that set? Minty, of course!
And then ideally the last two ponies would be from the very first MLP ever (Peachy, Bluebelle, Blossom, etc.) They would have to use Butterscotch and Snuzzle if they wanted to avoid having two ponies of the same color in the set.
In this way, they could include two ponies from the 3 most popular generations of ponies, each of those ponies being from the first wave of ponies in her generation, 3 of them having been in the first wave of more than one gen ( Minty, Pinkie, and RD). It would be very appropriate in my opinion and be most likely to please the largest amount of people both collector and brony. By this I mean that bronies are still likely to buy it for the special edition of their two favorite ponies even if they don't know the other characters, and collectors are likely to buy it for the other ponies even if they don't want yet another Pinkie and RD. I am trying to think like Hasbro here. If it was especially popular then they could release non-glittery versions as a general release. Such as they are doing for last years fair/sdcc pony.
Of course, this is all just my conjecture.
-
I just hope that its something good :)
-
Im crossing my fingers for more retro-G1 :D
-
I'm crossing my fingers for something I have half a hope in hell of getting my hands on without having to sell a kidney...
-
My guess it will be another Fashion Style background pony. Something that will sell well, something they can profit from. This SDCC for adults and collectors so they keep this in mind.
They could also pull a hat trick and give us a FS set of retro G1s. G1s that were popular sellers or that are popular with the community.. kinda hard to tell since Hasbro's main focus right now is the G4 characters.
-
Well, for $50, I imagine it's going to be more than just one pony. It's probably another "favorites" set with hopefully more unique or risky characters from G4.
I just hope it doesn't stir up as much attention as Drama Pony did last year and people have more than 5 minutes to get one.
-
It would be really neat if they celebrated MLP's anniversary by releasing a collector's set of a pony rendered in each generation's style. :)
-
I know the Fair pony's price has been confirmed at $50. Has the SDCC pony's price been confirmed?

Its been confirmed its the same release...so I would guess it will be around the same price.
Now...I know what I really want...I am not going to get it. I know what I wouldnt mind...G4 FS Firefly and Surprise would be very cool.
But, and feel free to throw fakies at me, I wouldnt be stunned if the "figure" we are getting [bear in mind its a figure that has been confirmed and not a pony] is Discord.
You may ask me why...the reason is 1) a higher price point so I am assuming a more complicated release and 2) why are we 3 years in to G4, the same time into Brony-dom and perhaps one of the most adored and worshipped characters, has had no type of release at all [he doesnt even look to be part of the pending blind bag releases]?
And if not him then probably Vinyl Scratch, Lyra, Bon Bon, Trixie, Big Mac, Dr Whooves or a similar beloved background character in FS style is most likely.
-
Never even thought about it beind Discord! That would make sense... I'm kind of hoping for one of the other background characters in FS form though... lol ETA: Or a FS Firefly... that would be amazing!
-
Personally I hope that it's not going to be a G1 pony in G4 style... sorry but I don't care for those despite the customs looking good
-
Does anyone know what someone attending SDCC has to do to order one or do they just show up? Two of my non-pony friends are going and they have offered to pick it up for me if I give them money.

-
You have to queue :P And you have to queue to get a ticket in order to get in the queue!
There are a couple of threads on the Arena from last year with some great tips if you search back!
-
I got mine from harbrotoyshop online and hope I'm lucky enough for that again this year!
-
What if it was the main six in their G1 colors! Surprise anyone? Dazzler?

Same here... I wish I could get to the fairs, but I just can't so the toyshop it is...

I just hop that it's a Fashion Style and not a Brushable Set.

I just hop that it's a Fashion Style and not a Brushable Set.
I'm hoping for the oppisite seance i don't collect fashion styles
-
That's exactly the reason why.
I live in Australia, so there is NO WAY I could possible get a Brushables set at a decent price. The only way I could possibly do it is if I organized an American tradebuddy/friend to purchases for me and I pay for the item + shipping BEFORE it appreciates to 150$ >_>.
-
That's exactly the reason why.
I live in Australia, so there is NO WAY I could possible get a Brushables set at a decent price. Hasbrotoyshop is my only hope. But then I have to pay another 20+ for shipping.
its also gonna depend on the set to how easy they are gonna be to get i hopeing its something bronys wont want eather way
-
I'm thinking it's going to be a mix of Brony and Collector based. Like the Glitter Wysteria and Pinkie Pie floating around.
Collectors rake in lots of cash, but bronies even moreso. Hasbro won't want to shut off such a lucrative cash cow.

very true as I started as a broney and am now a collector as long as i like the set i will be buying it

Hmm... I'd have to agree with Hathor. Seems much more likely that the SDCC pony will be an FS style pony. The target audience at SDCC is not going to rush for ANOTHER release of the mane six. Collectors may not rush for that either (as much as glitter ponies are awesome, I'm not paying more than retail for more mane six characters, even if there are a couple new characters thrown in). The Discord idea sounds pretty plausible, and I think it would be super neat to see. I don't think Hasbro would put a lot of effort into a play size version of Discord (maybe a blindbag), so this might be our one shot at getting him in a decent sized figure.

It's a little more complex than that I'm afraid. Let me see if I can find my friend's horror story from last year.....
Found it!
I had no idea how popular that pony was. I usually show up at 10am when
the doors are already opened and no lines to the exhibit hall. I got to
the convention extra early just for you, 6:30am. So I waited in line for
30 minutes until they let us enter the building at 7:00am and I ran
upstairs to the Sails Pavilion to get in the hasbro ticket line (the 2nd
Line). I was told Friday that tickets were going to be passed out at
8am, I was maybe #200 in line, that line stretched outside of the sails
pavilion and became an amusement park line. After an hour and a half
(8:30am), I got the ticket to go down stairs to get in line at the
Hasbro Booth. I know enough about Con to know every booth keep stock on
a daily limit of figures that they sell. So I knew I had to find a way
downstairs to get to the hasbro booth before the masses. And
unfortunately the doors open at 9:30am and my ticket said "can't be used
until 10am", I knew it could be sold out by then. But I was hoping for a
miracle.
I found a way to sneak past security using my pro badge, I made it down
stairs through the back of the convention, which places me closer to the
hasbro booth. (score) I made nice with some people that had handicap
stickers, they were waiting to be let in early before the main crowd.
They were let in at 9:25am, and so was I. Miracle.
I ran to the Hasbro booth, and got in my 3rd line, I think I may have
been #25, don't even know how those people even got there before me, but
# 25 is better than 200. A guy walked up to me and asked if I was buying
the Transformers Bruticas for $100. I said no, so he asked if I could
buy him one. He seemed kind of shady like an exhibitor that was going
back to his booth to sell it for $400, and he more than likely had
bought his limit. But I said sure as he passed me the $100. Just as he
did, a mad rush of people came out of no where getting in line for
Hasbro, it wrapped around the booth, and they started a 2nd line away
from the booth by the back wall. Insane.
The line began to move and the Hasbro security guard asked me for my
ticket, I showed it to him, and he said I can not go in until 10am, I
said I had a panel I needed to be in at 10. He did not care. "Here take
mine" I heard as the shady guy handed me his Friday ticket from the day
before, which the guard then accepted. So I was allowed in. Another Miracle.
As I said, I was maybe #25 in line, and when they reached the 4th person
in front of me, they pulled down the Pony sign that said "In Stock." I
could not believe it, to come so far and to be so close. And the lady
said they were not just out of Pony's for the day, they were out of
Pony's for the rest of the show. You should have heard the gasp, and
shrieks of horror that came from people. I could only imagine the anger
on the other 1000 people behind me in line when they found out. And
worse of all, I dreaded having to tell you this bad news. It has always
been a challenge getting you your ponies every year, but this year was
by far the worse, but to to fail you, is what made it even harder. I am
so sorry. :-( :'(
If the Fair and SDCC do both have the same pony, my friend will be happy that he doesn't have to repeat this again this year. I felt bad that he went through all that for nothing.

MINTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
-
Oddly enough, I can see them doing a nonpony character more than I can see them doing a nonbrushable. And let's face it, Discord is not very brushable, as designed. That's why my vote goes to Steven Magnet!
(I'd love a Discord, mind you, even though I'd never be able to get one.)
-
They will be making a Loa pony!
-
I really hope it's not Discord, though the use of the word "figure" makes me think you could be right Hathorcat.
Though I guess if it was then at least I wouldn't feel obliged to add it to my collection so it would save me some money! :p
-
Wow this thread grew! :)
I have a question, can this new SDCC 2013 Pony raise or lower the price of the 2012 Derp on ebay if its a G4? Im guessing it might make her more expensive or no change at all.... Im asking because Im looking for her MIB....but ebay is kinda crazy. Wondering if I should buy one somewhere now in case her value jumps.
-
I don't expect that the new SDCC release will affect the market price if 2012's SDCC pony. Her price may vary due to the passage of time alone, however!
The speculation about a non pony figure is interesting. I really hope for a pony, myself! If they make Discord or something else, I guess that'd be cool, too!
I hope we don't see Twilight Sparkle in her "final form" as the SDCC pony. Retail shelves are going to be littered with her in the coming months!
They will be making a Loa pony!
I knew it! :D

Really? That would be cool - do you have the link to the post?
Last year Hasbro confirmed that from now on the exclusives would be the same so that would be brilliant if the Fair have managed to negotiate themselves something completely unique! And it would certainly point at something different and less FiM orientated - perhaps a G3 as a G4 would be more likely at the Fair and something completely brony focused at SDCC.

Ok, I went back and read some of SweetTune's post about the Fair again. I couldn't remember exactly where I read it, but I knew it was on the Fair board. Somebody else over there asked if the Fair and SDCC were getting the same pony. SweetTune said that due to her contract with Hasbro she's not allowed to answer that right now. So it could go either way. This was in the massive 43+ page thread about the ticket sales. The way she worded a few things gave me hope that they might be different ponies. But that might just be wishful thinking.....

Holy cow! My friends love me a lot but I don't know if I'd feel right asking them to go through all of that if they might end up empty handed and miss out on enjoying their vacation. I am going to have to come up with something AMAZING to bring them back from Hawaii.

That would have been me... I have asked repeatedly but the only answer I get is, "There is no answer right now". I suppose it's not necessary for me to know, as I'm not attending personally, but I do think it's a ridiculous lack of response for people who might be planning their trip around these facts. :( I don't agree that Hasbro thinks it's appropriate to hide this information from us.
-
Thanks Sailorstitch :) I remember those posts.
It would be brilliant if it was the case of different ponies as it increases the likelihood of a collector rather than FiM focused pony and more chance of those attending the Fair managing to get one.
It would also be a change of plan from Hasbro as last year when they were asked they said no more G3 and the pony for both would be the same.
Lets keep everything crossed!

This will be my first year going and my issue is that I don't want to stand in a long line just to see I don't really want the exclusive. Knowing before hand would be awesome : )

My understanding was that the exclusive was always supposed to be secret and only unveiled at the event itself. I thought that the only reason they announced it last year was because it had already been widely leaked through Taoboa. I might be mistaken though.

I think you are right. I think it is always supposed to be a surprise but thanks to Taobao and ebay in the past we tend to pretty much always know about it ahead of time. The Fair ponies had been seen before official announcements in the past but I think because last year's was doubling up as a Comic Con release and was essentially confirming Hasbro's acceptance/targeting of a different market, it got an earlier and even larger "release". Plus they made it an EW exclusive in order to garner some extra PR for the brand.
Even if it doesnt sneak on to Taobao or ebay prior to the Fair/CC, I would bet we ll get a similar announcement this year in order to hype it up.
-
Oh my gosh, I was reading through this thread last night before I went to sleep, and namely the 'horror story' above, and ended up dreaming I was in line to get the 2013 SDCC pony, which turned out to be wildly unpopular for some reason, since I got there late and there were loads left and no one was at the stall. And the exclusives were an articulated deer/pony, one in blue and one in pink...
Sorry, completely irrelevant to the conversation, but I just had to say xD
Also I've been trying to get myself Ditsy Doo recently, as seen in my sig. I knew she was hard to get but wow, that's crazy :L

But that might just be wishful thinking.....

This is pretty common for event exclusives of all kinds. Most companies don't release information about their exclusives until closer to the event date when they make official information available to the press. It's common across all kinds of collectibles, so it's not like hasbro is being some kind of tyrant.
Also, if Summer isn't allowed to release this information, then we should respect that. If she's said no once, the answer obviously isn't going to change until Hasbro releases the information.

Someone on the forum said she had a dream a while back that the exclusive turned out to be fakies! I had a dream a few months ago that the exclusive turned out to the a huge box of 50 squinkies, and not even mlp ones. We are all so anxious about the exclusive that's it's affecting our dreams!
I'm really sorry, but that made me giggle! I would be so mad if the exclusive was a fakie, and I'm sure so many other people would be as well, good thing it was only a dream!
Now I'm imagining how fun it would be if they launched G5 with a con exclusive. Things would be nuts!

Ugh, not looking forward to the 2013 SDCC pony. If it's a G4 pony that's a popular character, it's going to be a nightmare like last year. I want to collect every pony from G4, but con exclusives make that really hard.
-
Just throwing this out there,... is there any possibility that they will try to slip in one of the new Equestria Girls dolls into this? I am not sure how I feel about the whole concept but would they even do that? It is supposed to be a PONY right? Is there a typical style, like playful pony or fashion style size?

before last year they were g3s last year we got g4 :muffin: Pony fashion style

I have a feeling that I am not going to be able to get this pony either, I cant afford the last year one. Or I do not want to spend that much for one pony.

Here's some good news about the sparkly Wysteria and Pinkie Pie. There are more showing up, and they were made this year.
I think there is a great chance of them being at least some sort of special edition ponies, even if they aren't for SDCC or the fair.

This, sadly. :/ I hope it's not so much of a mad rush as it was last year - that was ridiculous.

Now that is an interesting idea.
We saw in the other EG thread that these are sometimes being released in packs "pony and doll". We have the mention of "figure" in the original release. Hasbro have confirmed that Comic Con is the big release of the EG brand and the release is more expensive than we would expect for a single FS pony [in fact 150% more expensive than 2012]. So yes I could totally see that.
The only argument against this is that the Pony Fair is 2 weeks before Comic Con. If they are keeping the same item between both locations and if CC is the big release of the line, it would seem unlikely that the Fair would get a 2 week pre release on the line before the big reveal at CC.
However, perhaps this could indicate that both events will get something different?

Hmm. At $50 I really hope the fair pony is the same as the SDCC one. I know that there is little to no chance of it actually being what I want it to be, so I'm just waiting for an announcement of some sorts. I just hope it's soon. lol

I don't think that the Pinkie and Wysteria are going to be released. It would be pretty silly (even though Hasbro is the definition of silly and unethical..) to release just two ponies for a 30th year anniversary (or if they are for the fair, 25 dollars each) and if they were in a pack with other ponies, I think we would have seen the others by now. Soon to be released ponies usually come in floods on Taobao like Baby Molasses and Mrs. Cake are, where we have only seen 2 Pinkies and 2 Wysterias, both on eBay.
But this could all be wrong, just speculation on my part :P

whats up with the wiesterias and pinkies any ways?
-
I think they should make the SDCC pony in a G4 character mold and the fair pony in the G3 mold. As far as which G4 character I think it should be, I vote Big Mac.

whats up with the wiesterias and pinkies any ways?
The glitter ones? No one knows yet...could be test/proto - could be an actual release. Only time will tell.

Are there any threads with pictures of Wysteria and Pinkie Pie? I keep seeing people talk about them but I haven't been able to find any pictures.

Oh my gosh ^^ Those are so awesome!

Those are really cool, but I don't think they will be the exclusive. I LOVE the pink and black balloons on Pinkie!

I love Wysteria - I really hope she is released.
