Title: Cleaning
Post by: SALTY5621 on March 31, 2013, 01:39:26 AM
As an Easter present I received a Merry-Go-Round pony (I looked up the name but it seems to have slipped my mind...) from my little cousin who for some reason has 4 G1s in near mint condition despite the mutilation of their other toys. So to my surprise the only thing wrong with this pretty girl is that she's covered in dirt and her mane and tail are dry. I know how to fix the mane and tail but am wondering about the body. Can I just use normal soap and water or will I need to do special steps to prevent damage?

Just some normal liquid soap will do the trick  :)

If you are going to give her a soak and all over clean, you may be best to remove her tail. Its just that with the washer inside so easily rusting if they get wet you may not want to give yourself future tail rust problems.

However, depending on how serious the dirt is you should be able to surface clean her without the need for a soak - thats always preferable for me as it means you dont need to remove her head! A magic eraser or baby wipes are also an effective way to dry clean a pony without exposing her to too much water.

There's a few specks of dirt on one Pony that I've been trying to get off with antibacterial hand wipes. I have to scrub and scrub, and I damaged a couple of fingernails, but I did get some of it off that way. I'm thinking I'll buy a Magic Eraser at the store and see if that will get the remainder off easier.

Good luck with yours!

i might end up rehairing her. the tail rust and hair plug grime are starting to make me worried after reading about what they can lead to... the scuffs on the hooves are also worrying... they might not be scuffs...

She looks great :)

Have you read through the cleaning tutorials? They are helpful as well if you are not sure what to do.
