All this talk about prototypes and taobao has made me curious on everyone's prototypes.

I've got a Gilda with unpainted wings and tail, as in they're just the normal skin color instead of a darker orange, but she's not very exciting to look at. :|

The Rarity/Blossomforth hybrid are headswaps, not done by myself (I hasten to add) but I bought them separately, one off the sales forum here and the other off ebay. I think they look kinda cool together!! The Blonde Pinkie is Cherry Blossom's body with Pinkie's cutie mark. That's a bit more difficult to fake outside of the factory - unless you have super skills with a teeny paint brush!!!

I looooove blonde Pinkie - thats one of my favourite frankenponies and I wish they had made Pinkie that way - she is so much cuter!

I have been considering what exactly is the difference between a prototype and a factory error. I guess prototypes are tests, never meant to be sold, they are sometimes unfinished ponies as factories may run different tests fro body mold, painting, eyes, hair, etc... don't know...
Stella Bella and Holly Blue seems to fall on the factory error category for me, but they decided to use the "errors" as exclusives.
Does anyone have a more clear explanation? These is just my guesses on the issue but I would like to have a clearer concept in mind ^^

The Argie white prototypes in Posey's pose are very cool. Which symbol variants are there of this prototype? Are there more of them without a symbol vs with symbol?

@Buffy - there are 4 of her floating around in total - Glacia has pictured hers here too - I am sure one of them will go on the market eventually. If I ever consider selling or auctioning I will let you know. :) I would absolutely love to find out one day what they were created for!

Neither of them were official pony's - they were purchased by meet organisers and UK PonyCon for their own events as in the case of the latter Hasbro were unwilling to supply an official pony.

@hathorcat- There are 4? I thought you and I each had one, and a friend of yours had a 3rd one, but that was it :awake: When did a 4th one appear? You've got me really curious now :)
I would like to know their value someday, as they are pretty cool, but I don't feel like selling mine to find out :drunk:

Yup 4. :) Although there were supposed to be 10 originally lol...then 8...then 7...then 6... then when the original box arrived there were only 3. Which split between you me and someone else. However, when I got a shipment of non pony items about 6-8 months later [cant remember exactly to be honest], my friend had managed to get another one - she now lives with another awesome pony friend :)
But at present its still only 4 and the little man who sold them to my friend has never had anything unique again - plenty of other Hasbro and MLP items but never anything which hasnt been seen in stores eventually or Taobao initially. I keep hoping...
So the source was the same guy. I would be curious on value as well but I am not sure how sought after they would be and I dont feel like selling mine either at the moment to test that market out.

My Princess Cadance with gradient wings. Her cutie mark is also a little smaller and her color slightly different than the one that actually came with the Wedding Castle. She's my only prototype.

I think it all rests on how easy it could be to re-create them. Its quite easy to swap the heads on ponies to create a couple of (what i call) Hybrid ponies. It could also be do-able to re-hair them in a different colour. Its also possible to remove the original pony's cutie mark and paint on another (though you'd need serious painting skills!!). These ones are not too valuable, though they are fun :biggrin:
Then you have true prototypes, like the Funko blanks I have seen on a similar post, and the G1/3 blank or incomplete ponies I have seen in answer to this thread. Also the G4 Sweetie Blue - some reckon this is a prototype of the much wanted Mrs Cake, and the G4 Minty.
There are also the pre-releases, like the Mrs Cake and Baby Molasses G4's. I think if there is no official release on these then they can be classed as prototypes. If they are officially released then they are just normal (albeit extra special because you got one first) ponies.
This is only my humble opinion though :blush: I know there has been some controversy over these, but I think they are quite fun :biggrin:

I'm loving everyone's photos:) I still waiting on a bunch of mine to come in but I found these variant blind bag Royal Riff ponies on ebay and just had to have them. These photos are from the seller. They still have more too including a yellow earth rainbow dash, lavander and pink earth pony flutter shy's and a different blue rainbow dash. I just bought the boys because I thought they were neat with the Barber pony's eyes. I wonder if they're all just color tests since all the other clear ponies have painted hair? There seems to be a few handfuls of them floating around so who knows!

I also have a few variants that were already shown like Lyra Rays, Trixie Shy, Pinkie w yellow hair, and the Fashion style Rarity with Celestia's hair and what was probably a rejected/unfinished fashion luna that came out before her single release. She has the same hair colors, only difference is her wings don't have glitter and they're not glued in. I also ordered this gal recently since I thought she was pretty with the tinsel. Haven't decided if I'm going to give her a symbol or not when she gets here.

OMG, How on earth did I miss that Wysteria???!! She's awesome:D And in G4 form *squeels* If you ever need to sell her, please keep me in mind;) I love that she's translucent, maybe there's still hope yet that we'll get some lovely see through ponies:)

I have this strange green Twinkler.
Most ppl told me she's faded/discolored but I still don't believe it!
Symbols & blush are perfect and so is her hair.
So I have no idea if she's a frankenpony, a factory error or a prototype and I don't care - so far she's unique and I like her :D

She was at ebay.com one or 2 weeks ago... I really wanted to get her, but $180 was really to much for me.

There is still a crystal Applejack up on ebay for like $275 or something. I've sent a few "offers" but they are really stuck in the $245 and up range which is INSANE, and WAY way too much for a non-vintage prototype, unless it were one of a kind which I know it is not.

I really want that Wysteria one but I would have just admired if I saw the auction. I have seen crystal Applejack but the price is too much. Wysteria is way cooler. :)

Same here! They won't budge past that $250 range :( I had funds set aside for a baby greek minty but decided to "borrow" some from it to get these two girls. I love them and thanks everyone! I'll look at their numbers later and update. That's was the first I've ever seen of Wysteria and I really like this version of pinkie better too.
Edit to add: I'm drolling over those Fashion Styles!! So many that I want...let me know if you ever decide to sale :)

Oh wow, so they are made recently! I bet these 2 will be out soon as part of a special set. Last year we saw Drama Pony around this time and she ended up being the comic con/fair pony, so I am betting these 2 have something to do with that or may be in an anniversary set.
Looking forward to seeing them soon :)
I will be getting the baby and Mrs. Cake soon, but I have a feeling they are very newly made as well.

Don't mind all the extra Mrs Cakes in the background, I really should have done a proper photo shoot with them but was so excited and wanted to show my friends that they arrived :blush: I have some more Taobao ponies on the way. I'm totally addicted to factory error ponies now.
and the # on Mrs Cake's hoof is 30071. I'm curious to know when she was made compared to the glittery ponies. Baby Mollasses doesn't have any black #'s on her hoof

Mrs Cakes foot stamp means she was made on 7th of January this year - so thats a good sign that she is not an older prototype like we have sometimes seen.

I own one prototype pony. She does not have mane-holes and her tail is a hairpiece which is not fixed to her body in any way (it tends to fall off sometimes lol). She came with the yellow hat and the pink saddle which are made of pretty sturdy plastic :

I think it was sometime last June, and yes they are from Taobao. There were maybe a dozen Fluttershys (a few arena members have these) and only one Rarity. The strange thing is that according to the manufacturing date, they were made sometime around when wave one ponies were being made. So yeah, it took a really long time for them to surface.
It is interesting how they have revived the translucent idea with those recent Wysteria and Pinkies. Maybe we will see some after all :)

Congrats! I did consider trying to bid a bit more for Wysteria, but I don't think my wallet could afford it :P I'm super excited for my Pinkie too :frolic:

I did not buy any Mane 6 blind bags for waves 2, 3, 4, or 5. Why? Because I already had them from wave 1. But I DID buy the translucent Mane 6 from wave 6!
Please apply this to your brushables and release translucent Mane 6 so I will buy more Mane 6, thank you!
