This would be a swap where we list our top 5 (or 10; either one) favorite songs and then the partner listens to them, chooses a favorite, and then customizes the pony based on what he/she felt or experienced when listening to it. What color, or what imagery comes to mind? Put it on the pony. Got a favorite lyric? Incorporate it somewhere into the pony. That kind of thing...
It might be a bit tricky since everyone has different tastes in music, but it would be a great way to share opinions and ideas, and appreciate music better as an art form.
Someone else might have to host it, since I don't meet the requirements for hosting yet.
Let me know what you think though. And don't be afraid to tell me this is a bad idea, 'cause even I'm a bit uncertain of it. :blush:

My entire music library is video game and Japanese music. I get the feeling that yours can't be worse than mine. Mine would make me appear like I don't have a life. XD

I think this sounds like a really cool idea that would result in some really neat and interesting ponies. It would definitely have it's challenges, but I think it could be a lot of fun.

I think it would be fun! I'd love to give it a go, though my partner might be disturbed by some of the stuff I listen to.

*high fives* I have crazy eclectic taste in music, but video game jams make up the vast majority of my library too! Thank goodness for ocremix.org right?
[edit] because I got so excited to find another vgm enthusiast that I forgot to say I would be totally interested in this swap and hope someone finds the time to host it!

That would work too. It would be very cool, especially if the video didn't physically appear to match the song, but it had an underlying meaning that did. Excellent way to express opinions on interpretation. :)

Well, I was thinking that is how i sometimes do things...don't know if anyone else notices certain things in songs and they just stand out to you or not. Like in the music video for Mona Lisa by Panic At the Disco, I can't help but think of how steampunk everything looked...or in Love Story by Taylor Swift, she was Juliet in a beautiful dress. Just things that make me thing of them that would be neat representations of the songs.
Or if there is a set of words that inspires ideas in your head.... Made of Scars by Stone Sour is a good one...just the title is almost enough!

This sounds like fun. I don't think my music is too out there that someone couldn't create a pony from one of them. And I doubt any of you listen to as weird of music as you think you do.

It seems like there's a decent amount of interest! If anyone agrees to host it, I'll be glad to pitch it to the mod on his/her behalf. I wonder, could I be a co-host despite not having participated in 5+ swaps?

I would be interested, and the music I listen to definitely has lyrics that translate well visually.
But my taste in music is so weird XD

hm, my honest opinion is that i would be happy to translate any kind of music into a custom, but i fear that i don´t know what icould expect for mine. i mean, if we just take the song, without video, coverart and such,.. there is so much room for interpretation, it´s insane! OoO
we -could- give a video or coverart to it for inspiration, would that be okay? or is that cheating? ;)
i guess it is impossible for someone else to expierience the same while listening to the same song. i wouldn´t want my partner dissappointed because i interpreted the song different. u.u"

And this topic is back from the grave! XD
I've actually put this swap on the back burner for now in favor of a Nintendo swap that will be coming around in October. But this one is still on my mind and I know people are still interested in it. However, since there is no date set and it's been a while since I originally gauged interest, someone else is welcome to take over and host this swap themselves. It won't bother me. If not, you all can expect this one to happen around the beginning of 2014.
