Title: Show me your Monster High Display - Just the Jisplay
Post by: Maniah on February 27, 2013, 07:07:17 AM
Im going to be reorganizing the house this weekend to make more room and to get my husbands computer out of the bedroom. I would like to spend a little of my paycheck to get a better display setup for my dolls. Currently I am just using the cheapie $30 5 shelf book cases from Wal-Mart, but they just BARELY fit my dolls. Boys, catgirls, or werewolfs cannot even fit on the second shelf, and I really only have room to put then 2 deep. No room to make bleachers so I can see the back row.. It's so limiting.

So please, show me how you display your dolls. But please make the focus of the picture on the display materials, and not the dolls themselves. I want to be able to see your shelf, or book case, or china hutch, or table.. Whatever it is you use to display them on. The dolls can be blurry blobs in the photos :)

Thank you so much!

Also welcoming any and ALL ideas!

My dolls are displayed on those exact same shelves that you have! I have actually rearranged the shelves to fit. I only use 3 shelves from one and two from the other. I have to keep my display up high though so my girls aren't into it. I also use the top of the shelves too. I won't bother posting pictures since you have the same shelves lol

Ooh. Now that you mention it, and I take the time to look closer, I see I CAN drop the shelves down lower for the shelf that was giving me trouble! I just had DVDs on the shelf below it, stacked so full that I couldn't see the holes!

I still wouldn't be adverse to a different setup, or different case :) I'd even love to see what people use for the bleacher effect.

Your shelves are the same shelves that I use to display my dolls.  Only I used a bunch of the short ones lined up.  I generally only used one shelf inside.  I don't have them all set up after our move.  I used wrapping paper to make wallpaper.  I used smaller unfinished shelves, frames, and chalkboards to decorate the walls.  I found these at Michel's craft store.  The frames can be made into windows with the right photo in them.  Then I used furniture made for the dolls to fill the rest of the space.  The display I am talking about is for bigger dolls than monster high but I don't see why it couldn't be used for them just on a smaller scale.

I want to make a new display for all my dolls too, honestly.  I think I am going to get a long shelf that I can mount higher on the walls.  It won't be so much like a doll house but it will fit over my computer so I can look at them more often.   :P

http://dont.blink.ph/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/leoque-ladder-shelves-1.jpg My main display is a ladder-style bookcase much like this one, except mine has a 5th shelf near the floor. The shelves are really tall, so I can have dolls sitting on the edge of one shelf with their feet dangling over the edge. They only visually interfere with the dolls on the shelf below if I have those dolls up really high (near the bottom of the shelf above them) on risers.

For risers, I'm just using like, some kleenex boxes on one shelf (practically hidden by all the dolls in front of it), and a black cardboard box on another. (It's long, slender and rectangular because it originally held like, a curtain rod, but you could paint and fold some cardboard from any box into a shape better suited for your purpose!)

On the other shelves (the two nearest the floor), I've added some of my Monster High furniture to the display. Clawdeen's bed, for instance, is a great item to display a bunch of dolls at different heights.

Please pardon the mess, I'm still moving things around.  I got these shelves from Target, then lined them with these tiny carpet doormats from the Dollar Tree to stop them from falling through.

I love this setup!  I can weave lights around the bars to show them off better.  I'm in the process of moving the dolls shelf (They're all set up, hehe) from the shelf below.  Then my craft stuff (too much of it! @_@) will be sorted on the remaining shelves.... and beside it in the drawers... and on the other wall in another bookshelf

Full look of my messy shelves. (http://flic.kr/p/dYkfiG)

Oh!  Umm... I made them.   They have an opening footrest too.  The two on the right are for my roomie, when I get around to finishing them.

You like them?  I was thinking of making some and selling them, but I didn't know if they were good enough, and I wasn't sure what to sell them for.

Jupiter: I love your custom ponies, they are so pretty. (completely off topic here)

I am having issues with space. currently I have a glass cabinet for my ponies and dolls, but the dolls are mostly piled on top of the cabinet. If I'm going to display the dolls out of the box, they need to be indoors so to say, because my cat is a destroyer of everything.

Mine has the same type of set up as jupi's but instead of a 4x4... Mine is a 5x5 with the middle being a spot for a tv... I will get a full pic when I get home...

I'll have to check walmart for spice racks :) Thanks! Right now I am about to start measuring. Then tomorrow night I will start moving things around. Hope I can get it all done while my husband is at work tomorrow night! Then the final night, I will put together and put up a new shelf set from wal-mart most likely. Unless I see one posted here that I like way more. Then I will wait.

Thanks... There are 53 out of box, and I had no were else to put the boxed ones so they sat behind the deboxed ones.... Eventually I will be redoing it (maybe this weekend like Maniah  ) To where I have a shelf around the top of my room so that I can put all my boxed dolls up there and then have all my deboxed dolls on the shelf.. I am actually getting the 5x5 expedit (its the same size as the one in the picture, the only difference is that instead of the place for the TV it has the same 5 cubes all the way across and down) My husband wants to move the entertainment stand into the living room for his tv...  :P

As a idea I often see cabinets and book cases on craigs list for free. I know it varies depending on your location, but it's always something to look at. Sometimes people have to move and they can't take their hutch or china cabinets with them.

haha that is where we got our bed, cause the Emeryville one is such a pain to get to (and now that we moved, its a longer trip) on sale is always good!

I gotta agree with Fred, I am also going to get the Detolf, if our local Ikea has it. I need a cabinet with a door, so my cat doesn't ransack my dolls.

I am so stoked. I just woke up and the husband is gone to work. I have 8 hours to move things around. He is bummed about it all. Lol. But he has agreed to give the new setup 1 month before making a decision on if he likes it or not. I told him that in one month if he doesn't like things, he can move them back. I won't help him since he isn't helping me move stuff to begin with. Hehe. And judging by my measurements, I can fit 2-3 more bookshelves in here.

Now I just need to get out of bed. This warm, warm bed.

I also need to decide if I'm going to spend the dough on the Walmart cheapie bookshelves, or something better. Heaven knows I can't find anything on freecycle. Bookshelves are highly sought after.

Ok. I may have underestimated the size of this task. I have unloaded three tall bookshelves and a computer desk. Ive moved everything around. I somewhat organized the bookshelves when I put the books back on them. Im trying to keep them from being stacked two deep. But oh god.. My back is killing me now!

Ive got three bags of trash sitting by the front door waiting for my husband to come home so he can take them out. In spite of all the junk I am throwing away, I still have more junk sitting around the house. And now I have NO doll space because I spread out the books >.< And all the DVDs are sitting in two boxes on the floor.

So.. Now I need a big DVD tower AND my dolly display case.

Lesson Learned. Heavy stuff is heavy and I shouldn't have tried to do it all in one night. Also, make sure you have everything you need before hand. I forgot my new setup would require a much longer phone cord so we could still have internet. Thank goodness for tethering in the meantime!

Post Merge: March 01, 2013, 03:20:31 AM

Ok. since Ikea is too far away, Im looking at Wal-Mart's website.. Would you guys give your opinions on this case?

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ameriwood-Industries-Carina-53-H-Four-Shelf-Bookcase-with-Glass-Doors-in-Inspired-Cherry/12545773

The dimensions for it are listed wrong. The Length (depth) and Height are swapped. The case is about 15 inches deep, and 53 inches high. I'd prefer it in black, but it has the doors I want, and deep shelves!

It looks pretty enough, just be sure you have room for it. And I know exactly how you feel- I had to rearrange my living room in about 3 hours once day so I could get my new couch to fit. Which is barely did, but I loves my giant couch.

My tape measure has been my best friend :) I need to double check the measurements on that cabinet as well as a bookshelf/desk combo to see if they will fit side by side. Then I can finally have a craft station that I don't have to take down every time we need the kitchen table.

My husband is being such a grump about this all. He keeps reminding me that he only agreed to try it for a month. He says I better not buy any more furniture because I might not have anywhere to put it in a month. He promise ld to not make up his mind ahead of time and that he would try to adjust, but I feel like he is not going to try. Then in a month he will throw a fit and want it all moved. For a guy, he sure is fussy.

He can be such a pain sometimes! Oh well. I might have to get my computer fixed so I'm putting the furniture on hold anyway. I have no idea why, but it refuses to load any web pages now and rarely will register an Internet connection :( hopefully my friend can figure it out.

Thanks for letting me vent!

He mostly wanted to know why I wasn't asleep yet so he could cuddle me. He has no interest in the dolls unless I'm playing with them over cooing at him. Selfish monster that he is.
