Ok, so a few days ago I found this video on the internet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZqnrwpvoEo
Now, I don't speak Japanese... but my best friend does! I wanted to ask her for a full transcript, but she has a 6 month old baby boy. So I just asked for a brief summary if she had time.
I got an email back from her. She only had time to watch the first five minutes before being interrupted by her baby. ^.^ But here's what she was able to tell me about the video so far.
"First they visit the mlp booth which I think was put together by the company that's importing mlp. The reporter oohed and ahhed about how cute the display is, how pink it is, how much it looks like a cake, etc, then they cut to a formal presentation made by the company. Basically they just introduced mlp for all the people who had never heard of it. They explained that its a 30 year old American cartoon that often features themes of love, friendship, etc. the girls commented on how cute they are and how they are sure that girls in Japan will just love them."
I'm really excited about MLP hitting Japan! It should have happened ages ago. I can't wait to see what kinds of things the Japanese make. I love my anime plushies. I'd pay good money for plushie ponies made the same way.

As someone who likes anime stuf and Japanese cutesy things in general, I am very curious to see what kind of merchandise they come up with.
-
Japanese pony merch???? Yes please!!!
-
Fashion Style Applejack on the table? Hasbro, you tease.
-
Very cool!
I cant wait to see the merchandise which they come up with in Japan for this line!
-
If Japan makes their own items I am going to certainly be buying that. I love their take on everything. Yay this may just make G4 exciting for me since I really don't care for anything they make or sell here but the blind bags.
-
Echoing everyone else here. I collect anime figures and other Japanese merch, 'cause their stuff is awesome. I foresee some awesome stuff in MLP's future!
-
I hope we get an influx of new members from Japan here. Then I can trade ponies for anime toys. :P

I just had a vision of some of the G4 characters in Nendoroid style. Ahhhh. I hope we get some awesome merch, and that it won't involve a proxy to get it xD

This is what i was thinking. ( and i like anime and manga too! *high five* )
Its awsome that the MLP is in Japan now. :)

When they were reading the descriptions of each pony since after reading the name they'd translate the romanized English to the Japanese word for clarification. Kinda interesting.
I really hope Japan gets exclusive merch, and this answers my earlier question of "when I go back to teach will I be deprived of ponies?" and the answer is no! Yay!

Mane 6 Takaras, anypony? :3
I just wonder if they're going to take the line in all new directions like they did in the 80s. It would be fun to see new interpretations of the characters.

Oooh yes please~
That's so exciting, I love ponies and having them in Japan where their adorable-ness would be even more appreciated! Huzzah~
I want to see some more cute pony toys in different styles, most definitely!
-
Fluttershy just became 20% more adorable singing in JAPANESE!!!!

Also, this may be weird, but the ponies look so natural speaking in Japanese like they were meant to. Oh well, I guess that's because the FiM ponies were designed to look "anime" in the first place.

That is so cool!! :) Thank you for sharing!!

Oh my golly!!! Cuuuuute~ Thanks for posting the link, this show is gonna be tons of fun in Japanese

Really, this sounds like it will very great, especially if My Little Pony becomes popular in Japan as well. It would be great to see how the franchise is taken in Japan toy-wise: Whether they'd go in a completely different direction like they did in the 80's or whether they'd stay close to the western designs.
Either way it should be interesting.

Japanese pony merch???? Yes please!!!
^^ This. I wanna see kawaii ponies!! Of all gens, please! :squee:
-
is it sad that i learned more about mlp in that 30 mins than i'd learned in 30 years.
and yeah i'm totally buying the dvd release of that. probably cost a few hundred dollars, but totally worth it.
-
Fluttershy's Japanese voice is definitely spot-on.
-
I foresee MLP gashapon :P
Some things I spotted:
In the character presentation-
The word genki is uttered and camera focuses on Pinki Pie, lol.
A few seconds later, repeated with focus on Rainbow Dash.
and this-
tomodachi wa mahou (トモダチは魔法)
"friends are magic"
-
Well, if super cute Japanese merchandise is going to start rolling out, I may be emailing my friend in Okinawa to start picking things up for me. :)
-

Yeah, it sounds just like Andrea Libman. That's how it should be IMO.
-
As long as they stick to G4's I'm thrilled. Japan has much more of a throw-away culture than we do so I guarantee you most of those ponies are going in the trash when they get tired of them. They don't save hand-me-downs or even have hoards of thrift stores so much as the good ole US. There's no room to save stuff in a tiny country with a huge population.
-
i went to some to the recycle shops there.
they were really nice.
and a lot more in the kansai area than i would have thought.
and it really depends on the person. the group of friend i have at the church were always giving toys and clothes to new mothers etc.
