Title: FS Shining Armor Rehair Questions
Post by: Shenanigans on January 13, 2013, 05:54:44 PM
I debated whether or not to get this set because I just hated SA's hair  But I love both Cadance and Shining Armor so much that I broke down and got them today... and I figured "why not rehair him?!" :) So I have a few questions!

What two colors are a perfect match to his hair (Dollyhair?)
How much hair do I need to order (this is for the Fashion Style one, not the "troll hair" castle one XD )
How to take off a G4 FS head

This will be my first rehair (well, I attempted it once like 6 years ago but it was a FAIL  ) so I'm a bit nervous, but I want him to have pretty hair like the other FS ponies :)

I usually use about 3 hanks worth of hair for a FS pony, providing that they don't have super long hair.

Pull it off.  I usually cut two triangles in the "lip" of the head (the part that goes back into the neckhole), one in the front and one in the back, to make it easier to pop back in.

If the head is incredibly stiff to pull off and you don't have someone strong to help (I ask the guys at work, theyfind it hilarious I want them to behead my ponies!) pour boiling water over it to soften it up. :)

The FS heads are NOT like the usual ponies, and they do not have plugs that you need to cut out. Pull the head to the side to try to get the plug from around the...thing that holds the plug into the body (really loopy from sleep meds, not sure how to word that!), and if you have trouble, soften the plastic in some hot/boiling water.

If I recall someone taking apart a FS Luna at some point... the FS head's have a neck plug like the G3s did... If you don't have someone to help remove his head hot water helps in getting it off alone (My suggestion would be to take him into a hot shower :shifty:)

I believe Atomic Turquoise and Bobby Blue are the best matches for him =D
At least that'd what I've rehaired my playset one in.

Thanks for the replies!! Well, I just twisted his head a bit and it came right off :) But how in the world am I supposed to rehair him?! I can't even stick one of my fingers in there let alone see what I'm doing!

Looks like I may be commissioning someone to rehair him for me :whoa:

If you get the hair, I could do it. Or I could show you how and you could. It's really not too hard.

You can scrape out the hair with some sort of tool.. like a screwdriver or something. Then you can use a reroot tool! :) They're very easy to make- I used this tutorial to make the tool..

Thanks!! Rainbowjuice, I will probably commission Kat since shipping overseas is so expensive. I mailed a t-shirt to my friend in the UK and it was $9 o_o

Thanks, Dainty :D I actually have some stuff to rehair, but I don't know if I'm ready to tackle a G4, lol. I do want to learn how though!

Story of my life :p
He'll look WONDERFUL when he's less troll-like.

If you're worried about tackling a G4 (which is easy) I have a tutorial http://jueboo.tumblr.com/post/26993865946/customising-with-rj-bait-prep (http://jueboo.tumblr.com/post/26993865946/customising-with-rj-bait-prep)
