Title: Most Beautiful Music You Listen To, When You Need Calm?

I'm just fascinated to know everyone's ideas on this, what do you listen to when you need calm in your life? Me, right now, I'm listening to the opening scene of 'Finding Nemo' where the camera pans over the anenomes. *Sigh* super calming, and it's the background music to the new 'Nemos Reef' game on ipad, iphone and for me, ipod :) Oh and if you've ever played 'Lumi' for Iphone, that music is stunning, although they recently changed it and updated  :huh:

So, what brings calm to you?

Enya^^  Or anything with nature sounds..or more recently the 'I am the doctor' theme from Dr.Who o.o  Tron will sometimes work too :)

Ah my mum loves Enya, I bought her a CD when I was 6 or 7. It's truly beautiful music! And I love Doctor Who too. Such nice soundtracks!

Second Joe Hisaishi. The music box and relaxing piano versions of his songs are what I use to fall asleep on airplanes. To find it just search "Relaxing Piano Ghibli" on Youtube and you'll find it.

OMG I say anything by Yiruma!! Particularly "River Flows in You" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7maJOI3QMu0) (Another version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-4wUfZD6oc)) Just hearing this song nearly brings tears to my eyes. >,<; Very naive (and exaggerating) I know, but the tone of this song is so calming but at the same time, gives you that weird sad feeling for some reason!! ESPECIALLY When you have Rainy Mood playing in the background with it. XD

I tend to listen to Florence + the Machine 'Shake it Out' if I need to keep myself calm like before something important, or I'm feeling really stressed out
but I also tend to seek out a lot of movie soundtracks and stuff like Enya

Aphex Twin's more ambient stuff. Stuff like Ventolin is DEFINITELY not calming, (tho some of the remixes on the EP are) but putting on some Selected Ambient Works is never not calming.

I'm a big Enya fan (listened to her when I couldn't sleep for the noise in Bali!) but I also love talking hypnosis and relaxation.

Lately I've been running my relax music nonstop :P There's several artists I absolutely love that makes such beautifull relaxing, calm almost fantasylike music:

Llewellyn
Enya
Mike Rowland

Those are my absolute favourties but I always keep searching on Youtube and find random songs everywhere that are great too :)

I listen to the unplugged version when I need to stay strong.. such an inspirational song ^^ <3

Going to agree with Yiruma, Clannad and Sigur Ros.. Lucy Rose is an artist I adore at the moment, her music is serene.. I think Tori Amos' music is beautiful also, and Beth Orton.

Ironically, Enya has the exact opposite effect on me- nails on a chalkboard.  Oh gosh, I can't stand her at all.

The music I find relaxing is Air Supply, Bread, Gordon Lightfoot, and the Carpenters.  Since I see America's been mentioned I will echo them.

Enya, Loreena McKennitt, and Sigur Ros.  Listening to the Beatles or solo-Beatles music always cheers me up, though if I'm looking for a calm mood, those first three usually do the trick. :)

Anything by Clannad; especially Eirigh Suas A Stoirin, Eleanor Plunkett, Skelling, and Coinleach Ghlas an Fhomhair.(Their The Celtic Voice edition has some stunning vocals at the end; if you listen to any versions of it, find that one.) Enya was actually a member of Clannad; so if you enjoy her music, you will enjoy theirs.

A few other calming songs by random bands are;
Please - Turn Off The Stars
Ships In The Night - Mat Kearney (This one is pretty upbeat, but it always brings up my mood)
Best Is Yet To Come - Red
Let It Burn - Red (Very sad, but a gorgeous song.)

I've also found some video game soundtracks to be very calming as well; most notably the Spyro Dawn of the Dragon soundtrack. Try listening to songs such as The Valley of Avalar and Burned Lands 2. The Fire Emblem - Path of Radiance soundtrack has some vocals such as Life Returns, Grace, and Rafiel's Aria that have a wonderfully calm feeling. <3

I listen to a lot of minimalist, drone, and ambient music. I can't listen to music all the time, I'm into music, not like 'boy I sure do listen to a lot of music!', I do, but my trade is audio engineering, mostly with music. I play upright bass, and write and arrange regularly. Sometimes I don't want to listen to a track and pick out the time sig, the tempo, key, chord progression, or anything like that. It's inevitable that I will, my brain can't not do it. Sometimes I just want something freeform, some noise, something that doesn't conform to the usual rigour of music theory, which is where things like Liquid Mind, Stars of the Lid, Harold Budd and other crap that gets thrown into the 'new age' bins at record stores get into my listening rotation.

I agree with many of you that Enya is a great one to relax to. I also like Vitas, a Russian singer. Some of his songs make me relax. Andrea Bocelli is anther soothing artist.

And believe it nor not, Depeche Mode. Not all of their songs are relaxing, but something about their music calms me.
