In the past this has been one of my favorite swap themes :heart:
With Valentines Day coming up, I figured it would be fun to do this again!
The idea of this swap is Love....but not in a Romeo and Juliet sense...but what do YOU love?
Say some of your favorite themes/things are daffodils, kittens, cupcakes, penguins and beaches....your partner gets this list of fun themes and works to be creative! :D This way you get an awesome pony, your partner gets to be creative, and we have lots of unique ponies to look at!
would there be any interest in this swap again this year? I was thinking of extending the work time a little, so most likely shipping near the end of Feb? possibly mid March?

I already know what I am going to be making for my partner, I just it comes out as well as I planned in my head. :lookround:
Disliked Poses:
-G1: The Flat Foot Pose or Glory/Moondancer Pose
-G3: Core 7, Broken Neck, Donkey, Walking, Sunny Daze
I have to say my favorite poses would be the G3 Diva and G3 Fizzy Pop poses. There is just something about them I really adore.

I'm not too picky on poses. I don't think there are any G1 poses I really don't like. I do have a soft spot for the donkey pose! The only pose I really don't like are the G3s with the hard cranked heads (like broken neck pose), or the core pose, and I'm not the hugest fan of the diva pose even, but I've seen it look good on the right pony.
Here's another question: what kind of hair do you like?
I've lately fallen in love with monofiber! I haven't tried hairing with it yet but it is just SO silky! I also love nylon, which is the only other kind of hair I've seen for myself. I'm not a huge fan of yarn or purfume puff style hair. (though I've seen both look cute in certain situations). But I'd be happy with whatever kind of hair my partner wanted to use, as long as it's brushable (not a huge fan of sculpted hair)!

As for poses for me...
My favourite poses are: Valenshy, Periwinkle, Crystal Lace, Diva.
Ones I do NOT like at all are: broken neck, core poses, G3 pegasi. Anything else is fine. ^_^
As for hair I prefer brushable. However, I occasionally don't mind sculpted as some people have made it look splendid. No yarn or anything like that.

I prefer brushable hair. Any type is fine... I know I've said in the past that I don't like monofiber, but, now that I know how to style it, I actually love it now. XD So, feel free to use any hair type.
I've come up with an idea! I just need to get my bait prepped so I can start working.

Coconut Creme, Diva, Sea Spray poses for the most part.
I do prefer Nylon or saran hair, but the other stuff doesn't bother me as long as it's real hair and it's styled.

And I'd have to agree with NoDivision's dislike list. Most of those are pretty horrible.

To answer my own question about poses, the only pose I dislike is the Core 1 pose. Literally everything else is fine -- even broken neck!

Poses...
These are faves
G1: I love the Buttons/Galaxy pose or Gusty's pose.
G3: Sea Spray, Heather Winds, or Jan Carnation (but most any will be okay). NoD's dislike kinda nails it too
G4: Fashion Style is preferred, the normal ones are just too small for me.
Oh, and hair: I prefer Nylon or Saran, but I can deal with the other kinds if need be :)

Hair: My favorite is nylon, but I haven't had much exposure to the other types. Whatever suits the customizer is fine by me. :)

I got the painting done! I have most of the hair colors, but I ordered the other colors needed, so... I'll try my best not to start rerooting before then! ^^;

Poses: Donkey, and gah! I forgot about the broken neck. That one just disturbs me.
Hair: I've fallen in love with monofiber, and nylon is always nice. I've never tried saran or any other doll hair before, but I'm not against it. And for non-doll hair options, I don't really care for yarn. But beyond that, as long as it fits the design, I'd be happy with it.

what kind of hair do you like?- Im happy for my partner to use what they want to however Im not a huge fan of yarn:) I do like nylon,saran or any kind of doll hair I love poofy hair like on the perfume puffs.Im also happy with sculpted hair :) x

Poses. Hmm. To be honest, if a pony has a lot of my favourite things and / or has been made with love then I'm content with whatever pose it is. But if that's too vague then...
For G1 I like most adult earth pony poses (including SHS) except: collector pose, shy pose, Tootsie pose, Quackers pose.
All adult unicorn poses are good, especially Galaxy's pose.
For pegasi I only like Whizzer and Masquerade poses.
I don't collect seaponies. Flutter ponies are fine (with or without wings). My favourite flutter pose is Honeysuckle's, because of her elegant legs). For wingers I think Highflier is pretty cute (and again, I don't mind a lack of wings).
I'm pretty lax on G2 poses, but I dislike Lady Sky Skimmer's (with the back foot bent oddly at the ankle), and Queen Sunsparkle's (stands with as much ease as a G1 Quackers, which is not a lot!)
All the adult G3 poses are fine by me! Which is vague... >< Gem Blossom, Sunny Daze and Valenshy are particularly nice I suppose? Fathead ponies are cute too (like Butterscotch).
Hair... As long as the mane and the tail are made of the same stuff feel free to do as you please with it! Nylon's fine, as is perfume puff style or yarn or ribbons or sculpie or whatever inspires you... but not feathers please. I don't have any experience with monofibre so I'm neutral. If you like it, go for it.

as for poses- I like most poses I'm not fond of the G1 Collector pose other than that I'm good

Poses: Absolute faves are Valenshy, January Carnation and Periwinkle. The only poses I'm not a fan of would be the broken neck pose, the open mouth core poses, the donkey pose and the Sunnydaze pose.... other than that, whatever pose works best for your design is cool with me ^.^
Hair: Nylon or saran are my personal favourite kinds of hair, just as long as its brushable I'll be happy! I love brushing hair when I re-organise the display case ^.^

Poses: I'm not a big fan of donkey pose but other than that I don't dislike any poses.
I'm not too picky and kinda wishy-washy, I know. I just like to give lots of artistic liberty.

Hair: I like all kinds except for sculpted and yarn, unless it's a perfume puff type thing.
Poses: I'm not that picky with regards to poses, but my least favorite is probably donkey. However, I have seen some really cute customs with that pose.
I'm excited about my partner's likes...I've had to research almost all of them! So fun to work on things you aren't familiar with.

Bait is in the mail as we speak. The hair arrived today- then to the endless amount of work going into her clothing. I did manage to get the little extra sculpted and painted since the bait is still in travel mode.

I scrounged up a bait and since I had a day off yesterday I painted it and sealed working on the hair today, I may have time to do another custom I used that as an excuse to order hair from a new supplier so I'm waiting for new hair to come for the possible second custom.

I spent daaaays brainstorming ideas for this piece - and i think I finally decided on design :) I've gathered some supplies, selected and prepped my bait, and tomorrow I'm hoping to do some of the airbrushing :)

Ordered my bait, got a design idea, and once I balance my budget I'll put in my hair order. I'm super excited to work on this project!

I think if the hat works with the design of the pony it could be okay. I'm not a hat person myself though.
I have color ideas, and have ordered some hair, but that's pretty much it at this point. I need to look through my baits and pick one. Currently I'm finishing up a private swap, so I'll dive into this one as soon as that pony is about ready to ship.

Hats on ponies? Some are just awesome (top hats, pirate hats, cutesy winter hats). Tiaras or hair jewellery or bows also work for me ^.^
I'm planning to attempt a minor repose, but I'm also drawing up an alternate design in case that goes horribly wrong :P One bait is prepped, and most of the hair colours are here.

I was out with a UTI yesterday (the day I had planned on starting my custom) but I feel much better today (thank you modern medicine!) so I'm hoping to get working on her!

I like the little eye gems on G2s, they add a little bit of pop to the eyes. I'm not as big a fan of Twinkle Eyes on customs. Painting eyes is personally one of my favorite parts of customizing.

Eye Gems: I'm not a big fan of the Twinkle Eye gems. I like the ponies, but I would prefer them without the giant gems. The rhinestones in G2s, on the other hand, are a nice small touch. I do like them because they don't consume the entire shape of the eye.

Progress - I've made some! Feeling very proud of myself as I've managed to do the base layers of the airbrushing AND get the rehair done! Another few sessions with the airbrush and then the detail painting can begin!

Eyes gems i dont really like the G2 eyes but i do like the twinkle eye poniea im waiting for a hair delivery but i think it will be a while before it arrives due to the snow:)

I don't mind rhinestones in and around the eyes. I do love twinkle eyes.
I've been working on this pony over my other swap. FBR is finished, hair is in (so much glorious hair!). Just needs her head back on so I can start my detailing and sculpting and to stop being lazy. I'll probably start on the good stuff on Monday.

And I was brushing it on the bathroom sink
And there was some toothpaste there
And I accidentally toothpaste on the pony's legs
I washed it off and everything but
Now the pony smells minty fresh
So I hope you like minty fresh, yeah

Not until your partner gets the pony, usually. With some swaps, it might be too easy to guess who the pony is for, and it could ruin the surprise.
I know how you feel, though... I have a shelf full of swap ponies that I'm dying to share, but I can't yet. XD

I think I have my design all worked out finally. I want it to be perfect! :biggrin: I'm just waiting for my hair to come so I can color match with my painting. I feel like it's been ages since I placed my order but I think it's only been a week. :P
Question for my partner: Do you mind hasbro eyes on your custom? I noticed most people paint their own eyes, but I am not sure if I feel brave enough to attempt painting eyes yet...

like pandaberry said, you can absolutely post photos of your pony, but I ask that you not post them until your partner has their pony, so there is no chance of the surprise being ruined :)

I got myself all set up to airbrush my bait this weekend, and after a few hours, realized....yeah...my airbrush is not working. given its about 8 years old, and i am hard on it....i guess this was bound to happen....but maaan.

Waiting on a hair order from RetroDolls, but I know Shannon's been ill so I'm not too worried. Also need to make a trip out to Michaels and get some paint.

Hasbro eyes are fine by me. And I have nothing against gem/twinkle eyes.

I'm fine with clothes! I'd prefer non-removable, but removable is fine too! I think that would be super cute.

I don't mind whether clothes are removeable or not. Mostly I like jackets, belts, legwarmers etc rather than full outfits, but some dresses I've seen can be gorgeous. Whatever my partner wants to try is fine by me. ^.^

Hasbro Eyes: I like Hasbro eyes, they're quite pretty.
Clothes: Usually not a big fan of clothes in general. I've seen several gorgeous kimonos but otherwise clothes don't do it for me.

:( Well, painting didn't go much today. Despite the fact that the company states their paints are airbrush ready, it didn't really work. I will have to make a trip out soon to the craft store and add airbrush medium to my list.
I love the color though, so switching paints isn't even on option right now, lol.
Clothes: Both are good by me.

Clothes - I'm a lot pickier about non-removable clothes than I am with removable, but I can't say I dislike the idea of either one.

Clothes are fine. Im not going to play dress up; itll sit on a shelf to be admired so removable or not doesnt matter.

Speaking of sculpting! I got most of mine finished last night. I'll have to do some sanding tonight and one extra little detail, and then it's on to paint! I might have to break out my airbrush for this... hving never used it before, I'm a little nervous!

ok, so now I'm torn. I've had too much time to think while waiting for my hair and now I have two designs I can't decide between!!
so I'm going to pose a question with the hopes of not giving too much away to help me decide which one to use:
One design has more to it but it's also kinda similar to a Hasbro pony, and the other design is much simpler but also much more original.
If you could choose between the two, which kind of design would you prefer on a custom? :D

Hmm. I don't think I personally have a preference. *dodges tossed fakies* Either would probably fit into my herd, but maybe if I explain my logic that would be helpful?
-Hasbro-like and complicated. Well, it's pretty established that I like Hasbro ponies :P I also have Hasbro-like customs like Giant Majesty (G1-G3 styling pony) and Sunscotch (a beautiful G3 Butterscotch that has Van Gogh's Sunflowers painted on her flank). So this seems like a good idea. I like complicated designs -they're fun and fascinating.
-Original and simple. Original is always good. All the customs in my collection have their own quirks that make them special <3 I like simple designs because they're usually beautifully executed and their details are striking. I'm looking at one of my custom shelves right now and the simplest pony -Neon Cupcake- is one of the most noticeable because she's bright and her simple design is bold.

So I had something happen... and I can't be the only one this happens to, right? So I got the head off this pony with the neck in tact, but I did have to use a knife a little bit to cut through the glue. And it looked fine, I was gentle and neat, and while the bait was sitting there waiting it was a great fit and popped right on and looked clean and lovely...
now that I've finished all the body sculpting and painting, I put the head back on, and the neck seam looks awful. WTH???

I just got my hair from RetroDolls today. ^.^ And I tracked down some airbrush medium at Dick Blick (yay coupon!). I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. My boyfriend's been off work the last couple days and we've been busy cleaning out stuff in preparation for moving at the end of Feb.

I'm about to finish up my second custom I need to take a picture of the finished one. I have the next day off so I'm planning on getting a lot of work done and I hope the hair I ordered is here by then.

Oh dear. :huh: That doesn't sound good.
My own airbrushing issues have been mostly resolved. The airbrush medium worked well for the paint, though I used more than the directions said. The metallic paint still clogged up the airbrush, but it took a lot longer. That's a win, right??
I got about half my pony painted, so it's just been finding the time to do the rest of the airbrushing.

OH YAY!! :D eyes are my favorite part! (and believe me, even now, I will take them off and re-do them two or three times if they arent working right....no shame in a re-do)

I had a good evening of working on ponies this week while my bf was working an evening shift. My girl for this swap is super close to being finished. ^.^ Need to paint the eyes, seal her, and add on some extra details. Hair styling will probably wait until after the move so it doesn't get messed up in the box.

I only got everything done so fast cause of my great new super organized and spacious work space that my wonderful other half set up for me. Having a proper work space where all my tools can be organized helps.

So funny story about my work place AKA my offcampus house room.
A panel in my wall that leads to a crawl space fell open and released dust and who knows what into my room. My allergies got so bad I haven't stayed in my room last night and tonight. Thankfully I keep all my customizing stuff and WIPs in ziploc bags and airtight containers so those are fine.
I'll be getting an air purifier tomorrow so hopefully I can move off of the common area couch and back into my bed!

Im going to be re-hairing over the weekend then im all done:)

All I have left to do is rehair. And it's been a complete disaster.
Half of one hank I had to toss because of tangles and another 80% of it is now in a ziploc bag as a giant hairball. I tried brushing, boiling, hot water, wetting, damping, everything I could to keep the hanks from tangling but they just turned into giant messes.
I'm going to have to order new hanks and pray they get here on time. Any advice from the seasoned rehairers on how to avoid tangles?

I think two tone colors are good I kinda had to do that on the extra for my partner I though I had enough blue hair to do a mane and tail but I was just a tiny bit short so I had to blend in some extra blue in another shade but it works

Thanks! We had a ball! My fiencee had never been! And it was both of our girls first time...we didn't tell the 9 year old we were going until we pulled up! She got so many autographs and pictures with the characters!
Tho the one year old and I came home with a cold :/ it was still a ton of fun!

Apparently the postman attempted to deliver a package to me yesterday, but my boyfriend didn't hear the door (and I was at work).
The only thing I can think is that it's my pony??

I have been keeping track of who is clear from the swap....but some ponies were shipped a while ago....im worried if they haven't arrived yet.

My tracking information says my partner got her pony last week, but I haven't heard from her yet...

I'm still waiting for my pony to come. I was wondering if I should be worried, but I didn't want to harass you again, jupi. ;) I live on a main road so I do worry about things getting swiped but so far I haven't lost any mail...

I really hope my partner's package arrives safely. :shocked: If not, do not worry partner, I will make a replacement. I'm nowhere near as quick a worker as Summer-blade though! :P

It sure took it's time, but my package came today!! :yippee:
I had given up and was super excited to see a package in my carport! There was no note, but I'm pretty sure it was from Candy Bang. The custom is absolutely gorgeous! And it's a twinkle eye pony, my favorite!! The paintwork is exquisite, and I love the blend of colors in her mane and tail! She is so pretty, I am so happy! Plus I got a bunch of yummy goodies, and even a beautiful Sky Dancer who has perfect symbols!
Thank you so much Candy Bang, your package totally made my week!! The wait was definitely worth it! :lovey:
