Title: Let it snow!
Post by: SourdoughStomper on December 11, 2012, 02:14:25 PM: We haven't had much snow yet this season. Which is kind of odd. It seems to snow every couple of weeks since it got cold, and then it melts away in short order.

I find myself wondering if we're going to have a "yellow" Christmas again this year, instead of a white one. My kids want a decent snow so they can go sledding.

So at the moment, you can maybe find a teeny bit of snow here and there in shadowy areas, but it's mostly snow-less round here.

Post by: June on December 11, 2012, 02:20:42 PM: We haven't had snow for Christmas a few of years in a row, but last weekend it fell so much that there is still about a half a meter on the ground. It made me really happy even though I couldn't go anywhere for a couple of days lol. I hope it will stick for a month or two.

I wish you a white Christmas ;)

In fact it's raining this very minute. *sigh* :cloud: Winters are pretty dismal around here, but at least it keeps things very green and pretty during the spring and summer. And, BTW, here in the Seattle area, it does get sunny. In fact we have long stretches of perfect weather during the summer months. Too bad snow isn't as common in my little corner of the world. It's not uncommon to only see snow one week a year. :huh:

Thanks SDS.....Maybe put snowball in plastic envelope......even water would be good where I am! Short sharp shower of rain a couple of days ago....followed by hot dry wind.....no use at all!

So what's on the ground looks deceptively like a light dusting of snow, but it's hard as a rock and you risk life and limb venturing out onto it. :razz: Darned climate change. I miss my three-feet-deep of snow before end of November!

(On the brighter side, I didn't have to get my son new snowboots until last week, so bonus! :lol:)

Oh yes, this too! The last time it snowed here, I was still working direct patient care, which meant if we thought we couldn't get back to work, we had to stay in the hospital and sleep there. I'd heard horror stories of trying to get sleep in rooms crammed with cots, so I was determined to make my 35 mile commute. I-40 was terrible, the scariest thing I've ever driven in. Cars going off the road and down embankments left and right. To make matters worse, all the jerks with 4-wheel-drive SUV's and such were breezing by doing the speed limit 65mph+ in the left lane as if it was just lovely, and with the wake they created, it was all I could do to keep my poor little Civic from fish-tailing. Then I got home and my yard was iced over, so I had to climb the hill in bare hands and tennis shoes, so scared I was going to slide down that I was literally crying.

No thanks. This is the time of year I start wishing for the Virgin Islands or something.

Most of the snow stays north of the Florida border, but we rarely see that white powder. I imagine if there ever were a snow thick enough to stick, they would cancel school because a) The bus drivers don't know how to drive in snow and b) IT'S SNOW IN FLORIDA!!!!

One of my favorite AZ tourist-type items was an "Arizona Snowman" in the snow globe. :snicker:

I suppose we do have a tiny dusting of snow in the shady areas now, but not enough to count. I want a real snow, not another green Christmas!

I don't miss snow. Grew up near Chicago. And spent time in the Illinois Prairie. ;)

I've only ever seen snow once, and it was only a little bit, not full on. I was bridesmaid at my cousins wedding, and we were in spaghetti strap dresses, us Aussies can be stupid and simple at times lol. Not much thought went into where or the season with that wedding lol.

It does apparently snow near here in winter, I would love to go see it one day, I have just never had the chance in the two years I have lived here :)

One year for Christmas my father decided to go out at midnight on Christmas and drive an hour to the mountains to bring back 3 truckloads of snow to cover our entire front lawn so we could have snow for Christmas. That was the best christmas ever!

Y'know, I should have made it so one could change their vote. :blush: Because it is now finally snowing outside (again). Maybe this time we'll hit pay ~~dirt~~ snow and the kids can go sledding!

I have seen/been in snow - not for me! WAAAaaaayyyy to cold!

I am an Aussie and happy to have cold, windy even frosty winters with lovely sunny days.....NO SNOW THANKS!

Its cloudy though and it almost tries to snow, but never really makes it. Apparently we had a light dusting at 4am yesterday morning, but it was very light and looked more like the end result of dusting a cake with icing sugar and a sieve. We do sometimes get snow if its really heavy everywhere else, but here, we are in a bit of a valley with floodplain all around, so usually the grounds too wet/warm for snow to settle and we don't usually get the weather coming to us anyway.

We did have about 30 white cattle egrets in our yard the other day. A flock of them was looking for bugs in our recently cut lawn. That is as much white as we will get. I told my husband we should cut the grass on Christmas Eve so they'll show up Christmas morning. ;)

This. Totally this. I spent one "white Christmas" in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with my dad's family. We did all the winter stuff like sledding and it was fun when I was 12 or 13 or whatever. But now, give me 70+ year round!

They had a huge blizzard here on Christmas Even in 2009 (the year BEFORE we got here, of course) and I'd love it to happen again. Got only one decent snow last year. It's been unseasonably warm here, so I wonder if we are getting any snow at all :(

There have been some winters when we've wondered if there will be snow on the ground for christmas.
We are predicted a higher than average snowfall for this winter... I know it's gonna happen, just hope my car can handle it...
