EDIT:
How it works:

Spoiler
I post a goal (like "Challenge 1: the Skirt") and you either make or acquire a skirt (or more) for your doll/dollies.
If you don't need or care about skirts you can skip it or if you are busy/out of town/ join late you can do challenges as you can/want and share pics. It's really laid-back, it's just a hub for sharing tips, patterns, inspiration and support and making solid goals for those of us who run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Who shall remain nameless...  :lookround:

This is open to any kind of doll. Pullip, Barbie, Lalaloopsy, La Dee Das, Monster High, Tonner, BJDs , Blythe, etc......

Challenge #1: The Skirt

The next challenge will be posted on 1/5/13

I would potentially be interested in joining this, but I would need to wait until after christmas, since I'm probably/possibly getting a sewing machine and will be able to be a bit more ambitious with crafting. I've kinda given up on sewing things by hand since it's just so tedious and annoying >_<

Okay, after Christmas I will start this up :D OOOooo! A sewing machine for Christmas! How fun :D

I really need to get to sewing for my babies; only two of them currently have a decent-sized wardrobe; my bigger babies are all practically runnin' round nude!! LOL Which is okay with me but it's always funny when they get picked up and the comment "Anatomically correct dolls, hmm?" is made. Yeahhhh, they needs some clothes.

*snickersnort*

But, def. not til after Christmas!!!! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread..

Would MH dolls would be okay??

Yep, MH dolls are fine, I know mine need clothes.

I think this might get more interest once we start posting creations XD I wanted to include all dollie people, so I put it in here, You can link it if you like though :D (As I said before I am making Tonner doll clothes too.)

I love the idea, and I would so love to join this! but only after Christmas - the reason is somewhat the same as that of Dawn, except I won't actually be getting a sewing machine but I will get my mother's old sewing machine repaired and brought here. I can't wait, I have a Moxie Teen and a Girl who are in serious need of clothes, and since the latter arrived (just two days ago) I have been thinking of possible outfits to (try to) sew her once the sewing machine will be here.

I think it would be awesome to do an interpretive challenge.  Say the project is a trenchcoat, and then all the Pullip owners show theirs as well as the Barbie peeps and the Puki peeps and the AG folks and whatever else.

Not only is it okay to alter clothes but like in the furniture challenge, you don't have to make them at all, you can make or acquire (trade/buy/etc) the clothes. It's just to help us focus and get things one by one instead of feeling overwhelmed by all the stuff we need.

Anyway, I think I will get the ball rolling but give a week and a half for the first challenge.

Okay, skirt time! I am going to use a modified version of this pattern
Spoiler
on this page, scroll down until you see the thumbnail of the pattern http://www.monsterhighdolls.com/forum/topics/monster-high-doll-clothes-patterns
for my MH girls and a self-made pattern for my Tonner girl.

I may also try to make my poodle skirt I have the stuff for for my Bee girl and my Sea Monster's pleated skirt. We'll see if that's biting off more than I can chew while I have ponies I am working on. My bare-minimum plan is to do at least one basic black skirt for both sizes.

Feel free to use a sock, they make great skirts. Or for a full skirt some ruffled fabric is fun :)

So any style of skirt?  We're not going to specify a cut or details that must be added (pockets, waistband)?

I'm so all over this! I've actually been trying to do a skirt anyway. Are there any decent tutorials for attaching a skirt to a top or sleeves to a top? I'm having issues.

Maddie: I just ladder stitch them together, but I am awful at describing things as you well know ;) anyone else know of one?

Well here's my skirt so far, I had started one the other day and did the main sewing today. It has an elastic top, I'll probably make some ruffles for it too. It seems kind of plain right now.

I think my camera's focus thing broke when I dropped it the other day, sorry it's blurry.

Also, Home Sew sells packs of underwear elastics, they are perfect for dolls! I made a little tube bra out of some for this pic. XD

I may jump in on this if I can! I'm just getting back into Barbies since I pulled out my old childhood girls. And though I saved the Barbies apparantly I didn't think it was important to save clothes... So they need some clothes anyway! I think I may try the sock idea, I'm intrigued!

Those are some adorable skirts guys! Really stunning!

I just got home today, so I hope I can work on one tonight or Saturday.

I also have a few skirt patterns, but since I bought them I would feel bad giving them out. I'm sure the seller wouldn't appreciate it. I hope someone has a pattern to share though.

I spent about an hour today trying to make a skirt, and it just would not work the way I wanted it to!

Post Merge: December 29, 2012, 09:58:51 AM

Here's a basic skirt pattern if anyone would find it useful. You'll have to measure you're doll's waist and size it accordingly. The inner part of the circle is the waist, sew only part way up the straight seam to leave room to put it on. The pattern suggests using velcro, but you could use any closure of choice. You could use it as is with a knit fabric, or use cotton and add a waistband and hem/finish off the bottom (or add a ruffle). Sorry it's not a complete pattern with instructions but hopefully it can be useful. If someone wants, I may have time next week to draw up a waistband and ruffle pattern and write out instrucitons for sewing the skirt all together.

I worked on my poodle skirt some yesterday, should have it done today :) I also need to make a skirt for the ANTM music challenge.

Self challenge up here. It's still a learning process over here for me with sewing, but I like it better than my first few attempts at a skirt. I suppose next time I make it I'll use the actual thread colors needed. It's easier for me learning to see my stitching hence the white. :P

Far as the pattern goes I got it from Etsy. I cannot remember the ladies name, but I know it's one of those that people have complained her patterns aren't that great. I dunno the patterns aren't giving me tons of issues just my lack of sewing skills and the directions kinda are awful.

lovely skirts so far, everyone! keep them coming ^^

I will also join in the fun sometime, hopefully sooner than later. I dug up what I have to sew from, and I already have a design in mind for a skirt for my Moxie Teen Tristen, now I "just" have to make it come to life.
(ETA: also I will have to handstitch it, as I don't yet have my sewing machine)

Almost done with my skirt.  It doesn't have the straightest of stitches since I'm trying to do this as much on the sewing machine as I can, instead of by hand (my usual method).  I don't have a lot of sewing machine practice.

I am loving all of the photos!! Everyone is doing so well, I am so proud of you!

Maddie, that outfit is super cute. I need one like that to go with my red-striped stockings! Keep up the great work everyone! :D

Remember, we have til Saturday to finish up :) I did have a question for everyone: in the furniture self-challenge I alternated between bigger projects and smaller. Do you guys want to do that?

If so do you want to do belts or earrings or socks/stockings next? Or just make an accessory in general?
If not, what clothing item should be next? Dress or tops?

Loving all the pictures! What great inspiration! I'm so stoked about this thread, Salli!

I adore the holidays but I do get so behind in the studio! XD I have been wanting to do a specific style skirt for ages. Yay for challenges! :D

Accessories in general sound good to me; I've got a pair of stockings that I need to whip out real quick before my festive mood fades. Also, I think switching back and forth between simple projects and more advanced is brilliant. ;)

Title: Re: Doll clothing self-challenge: Challenge 1- Skirt
Post by: Katgyrl on December 31, 2012, 11:19:05 AM
I threw together a skirt last night, I was trying to be creative and nothing was working so I was desperate for something to show and made a very simple sock skirt. It's not too bad, I'll have to try to get a picture of it in here later. With all the time spent trying to figure out an "easy" skirt I could have just made an actual ligitimate one. Ah well, lesson learned.
Title: Re: Doll clothing self-challenge: Challenge 1- Skirt
Post by: kCherry on December 31, 2012, 01:25:08 PM
This one doesn't count but I thought I'd throw it up here anyways since Carol Anne has been wearing it all season. XD

[img2]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Qe7bHoazdQI/UOIAXFcQaFI/AAAAAAAAA_I/Ww5rCVvPEy4/s320/DSC01451.JPG[/img2]

I also made Larkin a quick "kilt" on Christmas day, (It's not really a kilt just a measure of fabric pinned around his waist. XD ) I put it on him and called it a skirt only to get corrected very quickly by my Scottish hubby, "It's a Kilt!"

hee hee hee

So cute! I love all of these skirts!!  :frolic:

Cherry, I am making a kilt too! XD and here I thought I was so original ;) lol. Not that I'm the only one who has a kilt for my dollie. I finished my bee girl's 'poodle' skirt but I need to move the applique up since I ended up making the hem higher than I originally planned. I want to make one for the blob girl when I get her but I can't decide what to applique on her skirt when I get her. The other skirts are in progress...

Repulsive, I just meant flip flopping the big and small challenges like I did in the furniture challenge I did on the dollhouse, not that we would make furniture here. ;)

Sounds like socks/stockings are next after the skirt challenge ends on Saturday :) (We'll probably do tops after that just in case you want time to order or make a pattern.)

still not much progress here :/ I'm going to an important job interview tomorrow morning and I just couldn't concentrate and/or succeed in sewing for fun. but I will do it, just let that interview be over already :3

I'd also love a stockings challenge to be the next one, that's somehting I wanted to do recently, having found some appropriate materials, but with everything I have piled up I will just keep on procrastinating without a little pressure involved :P

Great minds think alike! :P I'd love to see it when you're done, especially if you go with pleats; I'm a big chicken at this stage and went with a nice, straight "sports kilt" for my boy. LMAO Who cares, though! He's not nakie anymore and he looks very manly in plaid! XD

Yayy!! Stockings next!!!! I may go a little nuts and make several pair; leg warmers count, yah? They're sure gonna for me!

OMG!! Lon-San, I Absolutely adore My Froggy Stuff!!! :lovey: I am working on her pumpkin dollhouse right now for my tinies and I'm sure I'll be doing one of her sweaters and a robe soon, too!! She has the coolest doll channel! :D So cute!

I finally got around to taking a picture of my skirt. It's just the top part of a sock and I snipped slits in the top edge and threaded ribbon through for the waist. Not as fancy as I would like it to look, but it turned out looking nicer than I thought it might. At least now she's got a skirt! I had to make her a quick tube top so she wouldn't be flashing everybody. And the poor girl is bald right now as she waits to be rehaired (she's one of my childhood barbies that had gotten a haircut). Don't worry, Barbie, you'll look fabulous again soon!

That is very cute Katgyrl! That's so cool that you have one of your old Barbies.

Here is my bee girl with her 'poodle' skirt. The black tutu underneath is poofing it out too much, I need to make her petticoat. But you get the idea :)

I also adore the little bead-bees, how creative! :worshippy:

Katgyrl, I love those pastel colours! and madhatterda, I can only second what others have said about how well that fabric fits your girl!

I still didn't finish my entry, but here's a work in progress pic of Tristen chilling out in her soon-to-be dress:

I originally planned a skirt, but chose to go for a dress instead when upon searching for something I found something else instead, and it screamed for being made into a dress. also at least it covers everything (she doesn't yet have a top). the hat is Raspberry's (she's the Furby), who was happy to offer it for Tristen until I get a wig for her) ^^

What a cute skirt Salli! I love how you did the little bead bees!

I love your dress Loona! Reminds me of something you'd see in the 50s or thereabouts. So cute!

I actually saved several of my childhood barbies, four I believe, plus a kelly doll and two barbie playsets. One of the smart things I did as a teen was put all those in a box with the idea of sharing them with my future kids someday. And somehow that box has survived intact to today! But two of those barbie are looking pretty sad, the one pictured (which just needed new hair) and another one who was one of my favorites growing up but is pretty beat up (peeling leg, chewed right hand, dredded hair). So now my mission is to beautify and clothe them! This challange is awesome because I do so much better when I share a goal with others, it's so much more motivation when I get to show off my accomplishments. ;)

I LOVE an extreme makeover! Did you get "before" pix? That was very clever of you to do :)

The bees are little seed beads over wings I cut out from clear elastic! I cut kind of an infinity sign out of the elastic to make the wings and stitched them on at the center point. Then stitched a loop with 3 beads on it, and I don't think you can see it in the pic but I tied it off on the top and left the 2 little strings as antennae for them. I love them too, I need to make the rest of her outfit and find some of Operetta's sig saddle shoes.

I want to make a circle skirt like this for my blob girl and I am trying to think of what I want to put on her skirt. I was thinking a few appliqued bottles with one spilled over and some iridescent sequins as bubbles 'floating' up the skirt. I need to just rent The Blob. I also need a Barbie '57 Bel Air to customize XD

Kilt is almost done!

Yeah so the skirt turned into a dress.  A lot of people had this problem, too, I noticed!

I eyeballed the whole thing...  got very lucky that the bodice seams were perfect.  I still need to sew snaps onto it, but I haven't been able to get to the sewing shop yet, so forgive the fact that it's sewn ONTO Rochelle at the moment!  :D

"Well, I love it and all... but... but.."

Just messing with you!

Seriously, though. It is really cute, and I love the design. :)

Just so everyone knows, I prefer vintage looks rather than modern so most of what I make will have an older flare to it.  Its just how my mind works.

Okay well I saw this today so I made this skirt in a big hurry.  Its a bluejean mini with vintage trim. I do not have a shirt for it so ignore her horrible pink tank. I guess when it comes to making a shirt I will make one to match this or at least go with it better.
Also bad photos...sorry...its dark and I have no ideal set up for doll photos.

Back of skirt.

I basically used a barbie skirt for the pattern and made it a bit wider to accommodate my surging. I made a seam half way up the back and have a Velcro fastener at the waist.  I will sew on a snap at some point, but like I said I was in a huge hurry. I love to sew. This will be fun for me. :)

Okay, I will edit this post in a bit with my skirt pix (feel free to share pix of anything you make for any challenge at any point, it doesn't have to be within the challenge we are currently running), but I am going to go ahead and start challenge 2!

Challenge 2: Stockings

Make or acquire at least one pair of stockings for a doll.

TIP: sewing knits, especially super-stretchy ones is a totally different animal from normal woven fabrics. Use either a seed stitch or a very slight zig zag stitch to keep the thread from breaking when the garment is being stretched over the body.
TIP: sew the top hem of your stockings along the edge of the uncut fabric, then trim the hem edge to really short; fold and sew the stocking pattern THEN cut out the leg shape. It will keep your fabric from getting eaten in your machine and give you more control when sewing. So summary: Hem, sew, cut out. Sounds weird, but trust me.

Very good tip!! I was going to be employing the use of liquid stitch for this challenge and I imagined it was gonna get a little messy! XD

I'm a tad late, but better late than never (otherwise I'd never show up for anything.... Evar.) Here's my skirt, ahem, I mean dress for the last challenge. I got it done Friday night but.... well, this has been a heckabusy weekend!

:dropjaw: I wish I would've read this sooner! I spent a couple hours this morning trying to sew a skirt for the first challenge & every one of my attempts resulted in my fabric getting eaten & having to cut it out of my machine. I got so frustrated & gave up! :pullhair: Thanks for the tip, now I know where I went wrong!
Title: Re: Doll clothing self-challenge: Challenge 2- Stockings
Post by: Salli on January 06, 2013, 08:37:58 PM
Oops, sorry shockponie. Yah, I tell anyone who gets frustrated with doll clothes to forget everything they know about clothing construction. The very last seam you do should be the one that closes up the garment and I often start with sewing hems! Like on a skirt, do everything before you sew that back seam up. That is so backwards, but it makes me less crazy.

You can also buy a throat plate for your machine that only has a space for a single needle to go through and that would help, but I do a lot of zig zagging and stuff so it's not much of an option for me. There's also water-soluble stabilizer (the one I have it called 'Solvy') that you can use under your fabric, then just get it wet and it will disappear ;) (I am too lazy for that XD) You can use regular paper too, and just tear it off like perforated sheets but it kind of works best when doing longer stitches, which I don't usually use in dollie clothes. Hope this helps. :) Happy sewing!

Oh! I almost forgot. If your fabric really keeps getting sucked in your needle might be too dull or too thick for the fabric you are using. For knits make sure you are using a ball-point needle. Here's a good, simple article on choosing machine needles ( http://www.ehow.com/how_15071_choose-needle-machine.html ) some fabric store employees know how to help answer your questions (although some are either totally inexperienced or total idiots- a story for another time...).

Title: Re: Doll clothing self-challenge: Challenge 2- Stockings
Post by: Katgyrl on January 07, 2013, 11:10:13 AM
I've discovered putting a layer of tissue paper on top of stretchy fabric works wonders! Totally makes sewing with knits doable. Then it just tears away afterwards, and since it's tissue paper it's slightly see through and doesn't dull your needle as much as regular paper. I used it just recently when I made a pony sized baby blanket.

Thanks for the tips on stockings, Salli, I was a little baffled on how to make some, but know I think I may be able to try it! Course Barbies dont' often wear stockings, but maybe I'll make some little socks for my daughter's baby doll.

many thanks for the sewing tips, Salli (I've already searched for ball-point needles and I'll hopefully buy some tomorrow), and also for the tip about the tissue paper, Katgyrl!
I'll also join the line of those who never made stockings before, so the tips will be more than useful! I've already decided on the material I'm going to use (I'll make a pair of leggings to go with Tristen's previously shown dress), but I'm afraid I'm starting with the most difficult material possible (elastic tulle - I've heard from a dressmaker friend that regular tulle is a pain in the butt to work with, and I guess anything elastic is only worse), so I may just try to make another pair first, from a material that is easier to work with.

good news: mom's sewing machine is finally here with me! it was a little bittersweet to open the box, I'm sure the machine was last used when she was still here with us :( I wish she was here to show me some tricks, now I'll have to learn them myself.
Title: Re: Doll clothing self-challenge: Challenge 2- Stockings
Post by: Salli on January 07, 2013, 01:46:28 PM
I'm sure she will be with you in spirit, Loona :)

Ignore anyone who tells you that tulle is a pain or worse 'tulle can't be sewn with a machine'. I sew tulle all the time and it's always just fine. I don't know what people are doing to make it so horrible. I don't even change my needle, thread, tension or stitch length.  I think as long as you use the seed or slight zig zag and don't pull on the fabric much it should be fine. :)

YAY!!!  :frolic: So glad I could help.

Maddie PMed me a good question about which fabric to buy when you live far from a fabric store (actually, I would probably die). I hate buying fabric online, especially stretchy fabric for dollie stuff. I would recommend cabbaging some high-quality nylons (opaque ones are great!) or some really thin socks, like trouser socks for ladies. Patterned nylons are in right now and they are great if the pattern is small enough. The little girls' sections of stores have great colored leggings you can butcher too XD I will sew some up and post today (along with my kilt that is long overdue ;) )

oh, I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks many children's clothes have awfully cute patterns and would look awesome re-sewn into dolly stuff. I just bought some used baby and children's clothes for this purpose last week during a sale at a second hand cloth shop. I can't wait to re-think them into dolly clothes! ^^

Vertafae, Cute!!!! Good job!

Yes, I cruise the baby aisle for good small stripes (I love stripes) :D I bought a 2nd-hand girl's skirt because it had the cutest eyelet pattern on the edge. Not sure what to do with it yet though :D

Amen, kCherry! Crazy week. Do we need to extend challenge 2 by a week? Maybe we should do 2 weeks per every challenge.

Lemon, those are so good! I love the topstitching that looks like the jeans seams :) And buying stuff is completely allowed for this :)

Vertefae, I love Monkey's new stockings, and lemontwist, that skirt is gorgeous! what a nice idea to re-think Ken outfits if you only need a tiny bit bigger clothes to fit :ohyeah:

I'm also having a crazy week with almost no time in the evenings (I'm switching jobs currently, I still work at the former one but I already have to run around and arrange things for the other one), so I only got to dust mom's sewing machine today, now I'm changing the needle (I bought a set of thin ball-points), but I forgot to buy oil, which I'm sure the poor machine is heavily in need of -_- -_- -_- so I can't try it out, let alone sew.
I would also vote for a 2-week-term instead of the current one, I think that would make things easier for everyone. but only if noone minds or finds it too long (I doubt we'd get bored though ^^ ).

Amen, kCherry! Crazy week. Do we need to extend challenge 2 by a week? Maybe we should do 2 weeks per every challenge.

Not for me, I have one legging down and just one to go. I should be able to wrap them both up tonight. They're gonna be sooo cute! Even if a bit Christmassy. :D But, I notice that not many have posted to this challenge, an extension might be a good idea!! I am really loving how these are coming out and wouldn't mind an extra week to work on another pair!!!

+1, I love how they match her top!

today I bought some oil, and I oiled everything as the manual suggested. I tried the machine out, and it seems to work (it has some faults though, but well, it's 32 years old and has been used by mom all the time. I guess I'll look up if some spare parts are available, just to be on the safe side), so I'll definitely try sewing stockings on it tomorrow, as well as finish Tristen's dress!

Nice PB! I'm a chicken to try to work with hosiery even though I  love the look of a doll with panty-hose; so classy! :) Did they give you any grief?
*tries to pull off her chicken feathers

Thanks :D They weren't too bad, but I decided to hand sew (I was too lazy to get the machine out) and some of my stitches weren't very even and there were a few holes that I had to fix. I'll definitely use a machine next time.

I made some slipper socks out of minky for my dragon girl. :) All handsewn because I was watching Ancient Aliens. XD
I also made her a nightgown and a white wig. I really like the white on her.

Are we doing a challange every week? I thought it was one a month or something. Hmmm...

In case it's useful for anyone, I got an e-mail from Simplicity that they have free knitting instructions for American Girl size doll sweater and accessories. :)

jennovazombie, I love those warm, fluffy socks! :)
thanks for the link, Katgyrl. oh, I loved to knit when I was younger, we learned to knit at school, and I was lucky enough to have a teacher who could teach me how to knit with my left hand (I'm left-handed, so using my right hand as the "main" one would have been uncomfortable), as she knew how to do it both ways :P too bad, I forgot even the basic steps of knitting since then, so I'll have to get someone sit down in front of me and knit so that I can catch the movement and mirror them :)

today I finally had time to sew, and I could try mom's sewing machine out. first I made these knee-highs out of an old sock:

...then I headed on to those leggings. it really was a challenge - it literally made me sweat! there were times I couldn't help thinking "yeah, I must have chosen the most difficult idea possible for my very first try, it wouldn't be me :P " but in the end I'm really happy about how it turned out, so it was worth the hard work :accomplished:

You guys are all doing the cutest stuff!!!!!!!!! There is so much cuteness I can't even catch up, but I will try:

PBubbles: I am so intimidated by super-sheer nylons. I am going to give it a try though because yours look SO gorgeous!

KCherry:  The red and pink striped stockings are making me DROOL. I LOVE stripes. And I LOVE red. I also love how they match your top! So lovely! We are going to to an extra week (but if you want to make another pair or start on the next challenge [blouses/tops] feel free ;) )

JennovaZ: I LOVE that fur on your dragon! I am going to paint mine (silver??) before I decide on a wig, but I may do white after seeing this. So gorgeous, you made that pink look cute! Very cute nightie and slippers, I want some for me (freezing here). Cute idea!

Loona:
Your stuff looks so professional! I am so impressed! I want some! Great job on all of it :D

Katgyrl:
I was going to do 2-week long big challenges and 1-week long smaller challenges but I think people need another week and I would like another week to make stockings for 2 other size dolls, so I think it'll be most challenges are 2-weekers. Although I may do 3-week or a month long for more advanced challenges like tops/blouses, swimwear, coats and gowns.

Okay, here are finally some pix of my MH kilt. I tried binding the top edge with a super thin binding to reduce bulk but I hate it, so I am removing it and just going to try to either face it or turn it after trimming some bulk out. This is actually for my gargoyle boy but I wanted to work with Gil since he's one of my newest dollies :)

So, one more week for stockings everyone :D (and some of us can finish some skirts we need to as well )

EDIT: Duh me, I forgot to mention that these are the socks I made to go with the kilt. In the first pic you can see my red and white striped stockings and I have one white fishnet stocking done (really difficult fabric to work with).

I'm so jealous! These stockings are beautiful.

I finally got stuff together to make mine, and I somehow managed to break a piece of my sewing machine. It's so old I'm not sure I can find a replacement. I might fall behind in the challenges till I come up with a solution. :yikes:

Cherry, your doll's oufit looks great!  I love the coordinated socks and shirt.

Vertafae, love the socks made from onesies.  I love buying clothes from thrift stores that have interesting patterns and designs.  There's so much variety there, especially in knit fabric, that just isn't found in the fabric stores here.

lemontwist, I love the little lacy skirt.

Private Bubbles, those stockings are amazing!

jennovazombie, those socks look cool.  And the dragon girl looks great with a white wig. :D

Loona, your leggings look so good.

Salli, love the kilt!! XD

Finally, finally got my skirt fixed and photographed.  It was supposed to be a quick easy pattern but no, I had to go and add the lace and make it complicated.  Also, I sewed it on the machine, which I'm not used to doing.  I put snaps in the back but I want to go back and use some thin velcro instead, because the snaps make the back stick out.

I'm hoping my leggings come in tomorrow for my girl! The sweater I bought her to go with them came in, but it's a lot looser than I expected. I'm not sure if it'll look alright all together, but I guess I can find a way to take it in. It's mostly the shoulders look too bulky on her because it's too big. I hope the leggings will fit alright! Shopping for a slim MSD is harder than I expected.

Well seems Tuesday afternoon if we're at work (looks liek it might ice and the school will be shut down) I might get some sewing lessons. One of the other teachers the home ec teacher has been kind enough to volunteer to help me after school. I wonder how strangely she will look at me using the machine to sew doll stockings since mine is broken. :P

Oh cute skirt Bewilderness! I'm assuming sewing lace on there is pretty hard? I haven't tried anything with lace yet. >_<

Bewild, I LOVE that skirt! I am obsessed with lace overlays. :D Obsessed!

Maddie, if your machine was from 1858 you could still get a part for it XD seriously those old ones are SUPER heavy but they are AWESOME. Totally worth fixing if you can :)

I need to add making some things for Monster High Spirits Week on the Night Class competition (crazy hat, pj's, letterman jacket for a prize, etc...) while making these things

Loona:
Your stuff looks so professional! I am so impressed! I want some! Great job on all of it :D
oh thank you!
but I must admit it looks less professional on the back side. originally I just wanted to cut the tulle in half (apart from the top), and was already in the process of sewing when I realised it either won't fit, or it will have a hole at the back side of her bottom ^^; I'm quite of a thighs-person, so I know there usually is an additional little piece of material, but I thought "duh, I can do without". no I can't XD and as I was already in the middle of the process I couldn't insert the material exactly to the middle, so it's a little to the left. but I guess it's OK for a first try ^^ and noone will see it once that dang dress will be ready (it stll isn't  -_- ).

your kilt looks amazing! and the socks go lovely with it, it looks like your guy wears them with pride ^^

@bewilderness: thank you! so does your skirt! I love the lacey pattern, but I can believe how it made things a little more difficult. I was about to go for a rather similar skirt originally (a single-coloured underlayer with lace on top), before choosing to go for the dress instead.

how did the sewing lessons go, Maddie? it sounds awesome that one of the other teachers offered her help, how kind of her ^^

Thanks y'all!

Oh cute skirt Bewilderness! I'm assuming sewing lace on there is pretty hard? I haven't tried anything with lace yet. >_<

Sewing the lace on wasn't too bad, but I didn't measure it right or something, because there ended up being more fabric at the bottom of the skirt than lace, and it made the fabric bunch up in places.

Salli: I'm having trouble finding a part for my make if the machine. The home ec teacher at school informed me of where to hunt down a repair man that might be able to get a part for me. He is two hours away though, so it will have to wait till I can make the drive. I'm kinda putting it off at the moment since I just had to fix the wife's car. >_<

Bewilderness: Short lace or not it's pretty cute. Did you sew the lace by hand or machine?

I bought my big vintage doll some white tights in the baby section at Target. I need to get her photo taken. I did get a few stockings done this challenge but not as many as I'd have liked. I never did find one of the fabrics I wanted to make leggings out of for my Tonner doll, Dalice.

How does everyone feel about having the 'tops/shirts' challenge be a 3-week or 4-week long one?

also this week another nude and bald Moxie Teen came to live with me, claiming some clothes, so from now on I have two ladies to dress up, let's hope I'll stand the challenge ^^

Be wilderness: I think with the machines it's just a lot of practice. It looks good to me.

Salli: I have a question. Can we still do challenges if we fall behind? I've been so busy lately with our state inspections at work and my machine being crazy never tried my stockings. I'd like to do them this week though and jump back in on the next challenge. Goodness j found a shirt I want to make for Robecca, but I might have a heart attack doing it. Lol

Yep. You can all-out skip challenges, do them in backwards order, bounce around (I am still working on 3 skirts XD) as you choose. This just kind of gives anyone who feels overwhelmed by it all a suggested order and inspiration with it. :)

Oops! I never did and OFFICIAL start to Challenge 3

Challenge 3: Tops/shirts/blouses

They can be bikini tops, tube tops, t-shirts, sweaters, blouses, tank tops, even a vest. Make or buy at least one in the next 2 weeks (tentative) for your doll(s).

Here are some cute ones on My Froggy Stuff.
sweater http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCz31xQnqYI&list=PLD1F0237DBAAF9550&index=15
(if you make the back panels overlap I think you could just cut out the stitches when you are done and put snaps in?)

The classic tube-method :)

I may just buy a pattern for my Tonner doll, she has so many curves I am not used to fitting around XD Why re-invent the wheel, right?

That's what I do too! I use stuff I buy at Home Depot XD I keep meaning to look for the thin clear stuff Mattel uses at my fabric stores but I keep forgetting! I always forget notions, even when they ask me 'is that everything you need for your project?'.

I use that computer cable velcro stuff too! And the roll is so big (but still cheap) it lasts forever on doll/pony clothes. (I use it for curtains and just about anything as well!

Ooh, now that the third challange is officially started, I definitely have motivation to get my butt going on this pony custom so I can have time to make a shirt!

I ended up buying velcro off of etsy too, though it's not the transparent stuff but it's supposed to be thinner than regular velcro.  It's not as thin as the stuff used for computer cables, though.  I'll have to give that a try.  And next payday, I may go ahead and get some of the transparent velcro.

Hi guys! So I got really into the idea of the Monster High CAMs and really wanted to make my own doll and crochet some clothes. I haven't been able to get my hands on the blob/ice CAM (love the partialy translucent-ness) but found Skelita and bought her thinking she'd be easy to sell if I didn't like her.
You all have shown some real talent. I couldn't even believe one would be able to make delicate stockings for a doll. Anyways I'm in the process of crocheting her an outfit and wanted to sort of join in this thread as i've never owned a doll and attempted to make clothes. Crocheting is rather slower than sewing  >_<

The skirt is almost finished i just need to trim so threads and put a clasp in back. I've got a headstart on the tops/shirts challenge. The top is a work in progress. I plan to add a ruffles going around the top and over her shoulders.

please get well soon, Salli!

I started working on a top at the very beginning of last week, but I couldn't finish it on Monday, and never had the time since  -_- I'm sooo looking forward to finish it, but as I wasn't even at home in the weekend I have lots of things to do tonight... technically I fulfilled the challenge, as I bought some Barbie clothes (including two tops) for my Moxie Girl Sophina, but I want to finish at least that one top while this challenge is still on.

Aww Salli get well soon! My mother is home sick today so I'll be playing nurse. Hopefully it's not catching.

lemontwist - the black is size 5 crochet thread and the colors are size 10. I work with size 20 pretty often and for tiny roses i've used 3 strands of embroidery thread. It's tough but i'm getting pretty good.

Almost finished with my shirt.  Just got to do the closures in back.  Oh, and I want to put a little black bow at the top of the lace on the shirt.

And I found some Barbie socks for my ghouls.  They're a little loose at the top but I was surprised how well they fit Monster High.

Cute stuffs, everyone!!! I can't wait to see more! Salli, do feel better soon, Hunny!!!!
Here, haz a happy! :bunny:

I made Carol Anne a chic long-sleeve shirt out of a very distressed shirt that I loved literally to pieces! XD I kept the fabric to re-purpose as it was sooooo soft. I think she likes it! :D Larkin needs one, too.. Hopefully I'll have the time to finish his today (I'm cranking up the machine for his shirt! :yikes: ) But, if not today hopefully tomorrow. I still have one more pair of stockings to make and  some leg warmers for Maji. Who knows if I'll ever get around to them, though! I has wa-aaaay too much to do! LOLz

Crappy pictures, but they do get the point across.
(Oh! Look! A Bunny!!! :lmao: )

And because we couldn't have too many froggy links even if we posted all of them to this thread, here's a different sweater tutorial that I referenced making this shirt,

cute shirt bewilderness! And those socks look great!

That shirt is really cute, cherry! I'll have to go check out that video.

I attempted to use a pattern to make a shirt for my Barbie yesterday, and I failed. I think I might try again and modify the pattern a big to make it easier to work with. Those 1/4 inch seams are just so tiny!

Bewlid and Cherry: those tops are so amazing!!

Thanks everyone for the warm wishes :) I think that bunny cured me ;) I am feeling TONS better today. Not 100% yet, but I feel that post-super-sick euphoria that makes me almost feel 100% :) And my bestie is movin back to where I live, that makes me so over the moon.

I also found my camera! (In my sewing box of course ) so I will try to get pics of socks today. Also, Bewild: Barbie socks for MH or other small dollies are genius!

Hooray for fluffy bunnies!!! Glad to hear that you are feeling better, Hunny!

Should have Larkin's shirt done tomorrow, but I had to share; here is a good example of why I always fear using my sewing machine:

ROTFLMAO
I sooooo prefer to sew by hand!! LOL But, I'm going to start using my machine for at least an hour every week (and straight pins!) until we get used to each other! XD I've had it for over a decade, and it's a great machine. I just have to get over myself and learn to love it. I can do it.. I can do it. I can do it. :)

Bewildress, Wow!! Cleo looks HAWT!  :enthralled:
Cherry, Oh my!!! I'm loving that!

Ok, so, I was having issues with my BIG 71 cm boy... finding clothes even in his height that would fit wasn't working, so I had the idea of altering baby clothes... GW fashions for my boy yielded more clothes than I spend for one pair of jeans!!

I posted two in BJD doll thread, but here is a new one:

kcherry:  :lmao: That is so something I would do too! I have to give you props for not breaking your needle sewing over that much safety pin! Seriously, that's mad skill right there. I'm always paranoid just letting my needle hop over a straight pin. The safety pin really is cute, you should leave it in.  ^.^

So I attempted to make the sweater from the froggy video (very cool, thanks for sharing by the way!) and I watched it and thought, "oh, easy, I can make that" and then made a sweater for my Barbie, but it wasn't quite working out at the end, so I went back and watched the video again and apparantly I should have payed closer attention because I did all sorts of things wrong! Dumb things that I already know how to do that I just forgot, like cutting the fabric the right way to give the doll stretch, or making sure my collar piece was long enough to go all the way around.  :argh: So now that's two shirts down that look pretty crappy. I really need to step up my game and actually pay attention to what I'm doing!  -_-

Cute, cute, cute you guys!!
That print adds so much character to your boy, Ali! I soo feel your pain trying to buy/sew for the big dolls!!! :yikes: And, of course the big babies would be my favorites! XD

Shaiyeh that stylish top is way cool!!! I just love the cut!! Really, really sassy! And that cardigan!!! Very nice job on that ensemble. :like:

Yayy katgyrl!!! Glad you persevered!!! Her sweater looks Fabsome!! LOL She looks so nice and cozy! :3

I spent wa-aaay more time on Larkin's face today then I did his shirt, but he's uber grateful, so it's cool! XD Glad I had that nifty scarf to hide the overly wide neckline! I learned bunches with this one, boy! LOL

I made pink leggings to go with my Barbie's sweater last night! They actually look pretty good too! (and on the first try! ) Although I am coming to the realization that these Barbie patterns I bought are not made for the average person to really be able to sew them. The instructions said to fold down the top of the leggings to make a casing for elastic, but then the waistband would have been half way down her but! So I just added a tall waistband of some pink ribbin I happen to have, and it worked out very nicely (I love ribbing). I'll have to edit my post to add a picture later today. :)

kCherry, love the shirt!  What a great way to remember an item of clothing you loved.  And I love the pink safety pin too.  ;)

Alicat, that shirt is awesome.  It looks great on him!

Wow, Shaiyeh, those look fantastic!

Katgyrl, your sweater looks really elegant.

Y'all, I am so excited.  For the very first time, I just used my sewing machine to sew on Velcro!!!   Also, except for basting the lace on, the rest of the skirt is also machine-sewn!  The lace keeps wanting to stick up on one side, I'm going to get the iron and see if I can fix that.

Holy cow that is some tiny knitting!!

Well, I have been on (still on) that roller coaster of: "I think I'm getting better! No, wait, I'm not. Yay! It's over. Nope, wrong again."  >_< Good grief.

Anyway, everyone's stuff is looking so amazing and it's inspiring me :D I did some fabric shopping today and worked on part of a top for a dress. It's complicated. Kind of a spin on an Elizabethan era gown. So yay! I did something. Wow, is my house a mess though. I was doing so well on my Spring cleaning before I got sick too. Ahh, well.

I finally managed to get here... sorry for disappearing :P I've also been sick for a couple of days - I don't know if it was a virus or a stomach infection, too easy-go for one and too bad for another, but thankfully it's over now, and in the end that's what counts.

bewilderness, that shirt looks so pro! I love it, and it goes totally well with the skirt!
same goes for the floral-patterned skirt, I love the pattern and the lace too!

kCherry, Carol Anne's long-sleeve is so posh! love the little details, and it's such a lovely way to commemorate and give a new life to something you loved to wear ^.^

Alicat, your boy is totally sexy in his new outfit! *drools*

Shaiyeh, I want to steal your skills! I absolutely love everything you made, I'd so wear them if they were life-sized :)

Katgyrl, that sweater looks so fluffy and warm! <3 and the pattern is so elegant.

Private_Bubbles, I love Evelyn's new top, and also the headband! do I see right the headband matches the top's straps? what a nice idea :)

Salli, oh, it's such an out of the frying pan, into the fire-type situation :( please get well soon! but do try to enjoy your time while you must stay inside, time for creativity :)

I'm still not finished with the top I mentioned earlier  :cloud: I wanted to go on with it on Friday afternoon, but at work I got a text message from my boyfriend saying he's got sick too, and he spent the afternoon and the night lying in bed and sleeping (if he could), so I didn't want to make a noise with the sewing machine. I made some accessories - necklaces and matching bracelets - for my girls instead (which I totally forgot to take photos of, sorry  ). I could finally get back to sewing today, and today I had something else in mind, so the top got postponed again. instead I made a sweater for Tristen out of a half-a-pair hand-warmer I found in a second-hand cloth store.

here's a WIP photo for fun, she looked so funny I couldn't help taking a pic of her in this state (warning: mummy in the picture :P ):

I made a little jacket for one of my daughter's dolls yesterday

Made it out of little girl corduroy pants - used the hem of the pants for the sleeve cuffs. I also lined it with gold silk (I happened to have some scraps on hand), honestly because it was easier than trying to put a 1/4 hem on the neckline and bottom edge! (why do these patterns give such tiny hems!!)

Also, this doll has the most un-barbie like feet I've ever seen, I wonder if any of you know anything about her? Her face looks barbie-like, but she's much thinner than Barbie (at least my old ones from the 90s) and her feet are rather wide and flat. Anyone seen a doll like her before? (I got her from a thrift store)

Everyone who made tops gets their merit badge ;) And NinaMarie gets 2 for crocheting a doll-sized monokini!! That's insanely amazing!!! And you make me so impatient to get my hands on the new CAMS :)

Sorry for the radio silence, I have been doing zero sewing. Sick, hurt, cold, dealing with my oldest son's medical testing, running my pony swap... whine, whine, whine... okay, done.

I am going to clean my office today and get my sewing machine all ready to roll. I have some small quilts I have to make too. I really need to make some MH boy pants so I can give one to a friend who traded me Ghoulia's boots and some spare MH heads XD and to sell on Etsy. BUT I know pants are hard.

Question: do you guys want to do something easy next? or we can move into making pants or dresses. Some easy projects I was thinking of were belts, scarves, hats, or some sort of jewelry. Let me know your opinion so I can post tomorrow :D

oh Salli, I hope things get sorted out for you soon!

I was so busy recently I never had the time to check in here, but I never got a notification in the last week either, so I thought others were busy as well. the too long silence was kind of suspicious though, and now as I peeked in I realised I was right! don't know where those notifications went, they weren't in spam either :/ I'll need to catch up with the last posts...

today I finally had some time for sewing - however, I still keep procrastinating regarding Tristen's dress and that top I started earlier one Monday. today I woke up with the thought that I will make my girls some thighs. first I was about to make two (I have several old thighs I preserved for further use after they got holes on them or became unusable in some other way), a silvery black and a purple-black striped one, but I kept on finding suitable colours and now I have six pre-stitched thighs waiting to be finished with the machine, and there's a 7th one planned :O I didn't finish either of them yet, I was lazy switching the black thread in my machine to colours that'll fit, but I'm planning to finish all of them tomorrow. my girls won't have any other clothes but thighs, lol XD

as for the next challenge, I'd love to do an easier one, because in the meanwhile I could hopefully catch up with some other clothes I planned to make for earlier challenges. also, I think an easier one might re-gain the thread some more attention, and more people would be encouraged to join. I'd especially love to do hats or jewellery, as they are both accessories I'm planning to do or finish in the near future anyway, and a little extra pressure might make me finish them easier :P ^^

She is just a swimming summer Barbie they made that I think came in flat flip flops or maybe no shoes but in a swim suit.  That is why she has those types of feet...they are beach feet lol.

Thanks for the kind words guys and the extra merit badge

  for you Salli!

I also cast my vote for an accessory challenge. I have already set my sights on attempting a hat for a friend's doll. But am ready to be challenged at anything. (except pants, not sure crochet is the best medium for that)

Jennova, love the shirt.

Oh my gosh, that is her! She had those pants on when I found her and the necklace is still attached. Wow, thanks for finding her for me, bewilderness! That is so awesome of you!
You're welcome!

Thanks, guys. I've actually had a really great weekend :D

Accessories it is!!

Challenge #4- Accessories!!!

That's right, anything. Hats, scarves, jewelry, bags, shoes, tiaras, glasses, whatever you like. Make or acquire at least one accessory for your doll(s).

Ooh, I'm intrigued by jewelery. My poor barbie (who is still headless but now is more than half rehaired, so getting closer!) has earing holes, it might be fun to see if I can figure out how to make her earings. Thanks for all the links, Salli! I'll be checking those out!

So i haven't checked this thread for a while (guilty face).

Vertefae, that outfit is adorable ^_^
Mintymints, that looks so cute on Frankie.
Katgyrl, I love that Barbie jacket! It's so clever how you made it :)
Nina, you have some great talent, I love the ruffles on that outfit, and the monokini.
jennovazombie, the style of that top is so cool.

An accessory challenge sounds awesome! i just have to decide what to make :P

Yep! I was going to look into making long gloves for my dolls. I need them in both sizes (MH and Tonner 16").

PBubbles: no worries, I didn't even make a top/shirt! XD I will though. Man, January and the first half of February kicked my butt.

Anyone feel free to post more links :D
I am setting a goal to make 1 accessory today.

Here is a free pattern for fashion doll gloves, I think they are a bit big but then again, I am used to the MH and tonner dolls who have removable hands.
http://www.perestroika.ca/html2/gloves/gloves.php

Okay, I finally broke down and bought a pattern for my Tonner doll. It comes with a pattern for gloves too, yay!

ooooh, those videos were so much fun to watch, thanks for the links, Salli!

I need to make that fedora, I love fedoras ^^ and that Edwardian hat's awesome as well. but so much things to make, so little time - this week I got and will get home around or over 9 PM all weekdays but Friday, so I won't have time to start this challenge before Friday :( but I'm already full of ideas, so I made a reminder list of what to make, I hope I can manage to complete at least half of the list on Friday and Saturday (I'm not even aiming at the whole list, I simply know I won't be able to do that...).
here is the list of accessories I'm about to make:
- a necklace and a bracelet that matches Tristen's dress (the dress itself is finished, yeeeeey! :frolic: )
- finish those bracelets that match the earlier mentioned necklaces I made (they aren't fully finished yet, just the necklaces)
- a bow for Tristen's hair* that matches a bow on her dress
- at least two scarves
- at least one pair of earrings
- at least two hats (and the fedora)
- fluffy ear warmers

*okay, first I'd have to make a wig for her... that's also a WIP, but I'm waiting for some supplies to be able to make the wig, so that might take a little longer :/

just to know how to arrange my time spent with dolly stuff: will this be a quick challenge (one or two weeks), or will it last longer?

I've actually been working on this! I made at least 5 necklaces so far (I'll get pix later in the challenge) and some earrings for my Tonner doll and MH girls. I am trying to make an Egyptian one for my MH Cleo but man, I am not naturally gifted at this. I tried to knit a doll scarf today but I think my yarn (from my stash) was too thick. I think I will try to grab a sock-weight yarn this weekend.

We can make this a 2 week challenge if we want, that would give us time to work on different kinds of accessories. What do you guys think?

Loona: I want to make some hats SO bad. Earwarmers! Such a great idea!

Duh me!  I sew rosierjay talking about making doll neckties and realized that I keep forgetting to look them up online for patterns. All my boys need ties. To go with their fedoras right?

I am going to kind of try to use this pattern a little and tweak it so I can make tiny ones.
http://www.american-doll-outfitters.com/free_tie_pattern.html

also, the person who did this pattern recommends using Fray Block instead of Fray Check for doll clothes because it doesn't dry so stiffly, I will be trying this...

I'm working on a hat pattern right now, it's supposed to be like one of those canvas fishing hats.  It does not want to cooperate though.  I need something to go on my gargoyle boy's head.  Also, I'd like to make some earrings for my girls.

Well, here are a couple of photos of some of the jewelry I made my dolls. I kind of like plain jewelry that goes with a lot of things. Here is my Tonner doll with her pearls. The choker is separate from the long pearl strand so I can mix and match as I want. And some earrings.

Salli, those pearls look so delicate! love 'em!  :accomplished:

yesterday night I realised I won't be able to be here at the finish of this challenge, so today morning I took a pic of some things I did for this week.

let me introduce Mia. she's my second Moxie Teen who came to live with me in January. she's a MT Arizona, however, I decided to call her Mia because that's the name she had tattooed on her back with black transparent marker. thankfully I managed to get it almost completely off, but she stays Mia, after all her previous owner seemed to call her by that name (or it is possible that the owner was called Mia, but whatevs :P ).

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

she looks kinda like a snow fairy in so much white ^^ her hair isn't actually a wig yet, I just tugged a hank under her beanie to see how she will look like (I had other plans regarding her hair colour, but seeing her overall appearance she might stay blonde). apart from her bracelet and the furry vest everything she's wearing is self-made. I made the necklace earlier, the leggings last week (I chose to make leggings instead of thighs in the end, once they will have shoes thighs might be difficult to handle), the no-sew tutu this week (I finally got to make a no-sew tutu! ^^ ), and the two beanies and the earring is for this challenge. that's about all I could accomplish from my above list, but at least that's something :) I made the beanies out of a pair of white socks and used nail decoration rhinestones on them. I also made some simple stud earrings out of these rhinestones.

and an update on Tristen's dress, here is how it came out in the end:

the bow with the button on it was attached to the original material I used for the dress, so I decided to re-use it (and re-did it a little). there were 2 bows, the other one will be for her hair. I added some extra colour (that matches her dress) to the latter, so that the bow won't get "lost" so much in her to-be black hair. here is a preview of her to-be beanie and hair:

Those look great Loona! And I love the all-white ensemble :) I don't think she looks like a snow fairy :) The blue beads add just the right touch. Very cute hats!!

I almost have a doll scarf done. It's just a stockinette stitch, apparently I can't purl stitch with tiny yarn. I wanted to do a ribbed scarf. Oh well, it'll work. Not sure if I'll have time to do a fedora today, I will try though.

Do we want to do a 3-week dresses challenge next? Or pants?

Shai- the accessory challenge was for whatever accessory(ies) you wanted to make. That looks really pretty :) How do you use it?

PBubbles- I didn't even think of wigs, but you are right, that is an accessory!

Good job everyone!! I didn't get everything I wanted done, but I did make some nice jewelry and bought a doll dress/stuff pattern I kept putting off getting XD

Since Katgyrl and I are the only ones who chimed in an opinion we will do pants next!!!

Challenge #5- Pants/SHorts/Leggings

Make or acquire a pair of pants/shorts/leggings for your doll :)

Post Merge: March 04, 2013, 08:22:40 AM

pants: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT1qfQs4sJ4

My method for pants is to turn the pair of pants the doll came with inside-out and copy the pattern.  :lookround: Then make adjustments as needed/desired. Remember, use big seam allowances when stitching, then trim it down. Also, remember my rule for sewing things not in the same order as you would human pants. The video above does a good job of this. Sew as much as you can before closing up the garment (i.e. put pockets on, decorative topstitching, and hems in before sewing the legs together. Good luck!

I want to make a little flower to stick on the hat. I also made two "boy" beanies.

Don't think i'll be participating in the pants challenge. Crochet and pants don't quite go together lol
I did find some hot pink lace pants in my old barbie stuff that fit my doll so I'll take a pic of that later.

I've been contemplating a thread in the MH section to show off my "crochet fashion" and see if I'd get interest. The bag was super simple so i'll definitely make more.

I'm also wanting to see if I can get someone to do a clothing trade with me. I'd really like some cute tops for my gorgan and I'd love to have someone make me some in return for some crocheted doll stuff. And i can create for any doll not just MH.

I've gotten behind--been sick and it's gotten even worse over the weekend.  Argh.  I swear, a butterfly in Argentina can sneeze and I'll get bronchitis.  Got a shot this morning, so I'm feeling a little better, hopefully soon I can get back to working on stuff.

YAY!! Pants! Very cool, kCherry! (p.s. I love your dolls' hair too! I want to rehair a MH Clawdeen like your boy, I just love it!) Also, your Grace doll is stunning! LOVE her outfit!

NinaMarie, yes, you should definitely open up shop. :) I know a lot of people would buy your stuff (and ME!).

As for me, I have done ZERO. But my office is still deconstructed and I just got my swap ponies off in the mail yesterday, so I am hoping to do some sewing this weekend or maybe even today. I have several pieces of snakeskin-print fabric I want to make boy pants out of. I want to see which one I like the best. I am guessing the red/black, but the white and black will look cool, I'm sure. I am so glad I have a Deuce to model them for me :) Oh! And I picked up a Barbie brand Carlisle Cullen doll  :dribble: (couldn't resist) so I may make him some clothes at some point.

I have a fun little challenge to start Sunday ;)

Okay, I am going to finish my pants this evening but my camera battery charger is now AWOL (stupid half-redone office  >_<) so pix will have to wait.

My little challenge for this week is in honor of St. Patty's day fun :D

Make (or acquire) something green! Anything. Clothes, accessories, wig, whatever :D Have fun!

NinaMarie, your crocheted accessories are absolutely lovely! I'd also be in for a sale or trade for them, do open a shop ^^

I'm also at zero for this challenge -_____- I was away for the weekend, and I'm starting to work until late because the end of the month is approaching.  I'd love to do a pair of shorts I have in my mind for awhile now, but I don't think I'll have time for those soon... thankfully leggings also count in this challenge, I still have some of the previously mentioned leggings pre-stitched, hopefully I can finish at least one of them this weekend.

Salli, I made your little challenge without knowing about it :P today I bought a green boy undie in a thrift store because I loved the Moomin pattern it had on. I'm planning to make a tee for one of my girls from it with the pattern in front. I also thought of making some little purse for myself, but the pattern is pressed (also, it isn't new), so I'm afraid it wouldn't last long if I carried it along in my bag.

That's so funny, Loona! :D YAy! for green :D

I haven't been doing so hot at the sewing with my office deconstructed. But we are putting the attic floor in today (hopefully) and I can get all the boxes of stuff that is temporarily homeless in my office up there so I can at least work! Geez. Whine, whine, whine...

Anyway, I think I will let the pants/leggings challenge and the green challenge just continue until the start of April seeing as how we have Easter coming up here and that can be a major holiday. Oh, and our local school Spring Break is the last week of March (so I may not get ANYTHING done with my kids home for the week). My goal right now is to find my camera battery charger....

Also, if you have been looking for an excuse to acquire more shoes for your dollies, maybe there are some green ones out there... ;)

I finally got around to making a pair of pants! I don't have a model for them since they are for Galactica's monster high boys. This was actually my test pair so I could see how the pattern worked out, I think it turned out pretty good. There are definitely some things I learned and will be doing differently with her actual pair of jeans.

And then I technically got another pair of shorts on the new Ken doll I got! My sister found him for $1 at a thrift store. His poor little hands look a little melted, and his toes a little too, but not too shabby especially for a buck. I just can't make myself like the new Ken dolls that have actual hair, I like these older molded-hair Ken dolls so much better. (I almost feel a little naughty posting him with no shirt. The boy needs a shirt :P )

She's already done with my bag! Woo hoo!! So excited :D

Sorry I have been AWOL, it's Spring Break here and Easter on Sunday, so I am overwhelmed this week. So, enjoy the break, next week will be back to business- and I found my camera battery charger!! YAY!

I almost finished my pair of pants and something green :D So we will start something new next week :D

Got my bag from Nina Marie and I just love it!! :lovey:

Also, TRU has packs of LIV clothes/accessories in the Clearance aisle for $0.48 each! I grabbed one that I liked the handbag in, and I know the accessories will look great on my MH dolls and maybe even Dalice...

What do we want to do for our next challenge? I am thinking dresses since I was inspired by all of the adorable little girls in their Easter dresses yesterday and that is one thing I am sad about not having a daughter :(

Dresses would be fun!

Question: does anyone have teeny tiny doll buttons they'd be willing to sell a few? I have found one or two sites online that sell them, but you have to buy 100 at a time and I only need about 10 right now. :P Also I'd want to know I'm going to like those buttons before I buy that many! ;)

Glad you like it Salli

I'd like the dress challenge. I just finished crocheting a dress for the most recent ANTM contest (my first time entering and 4th place, go me!). And i've seen some others working on dresses too.
You could up the challenge by requiring it to be a spring-like dress

Edit: Katy i've seen a few listings on etsy for less than 100 of small buttons

Challenge #7: Dresses

(p.s. extra credit for Spring dresses!)

no-sew dress: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKQHvxK5qmY (I was shocked at how cute the were!)
simple sewn dress http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HkIEZQgqCs

We should start a "Spring Runway" thread just for our dresses. I feel like they need their own show.

Technically I have three new "dresses" that are covering the nudity of my new monster high girls (yes, I caved and bought some MH! These three are my first ;) ).

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

They are made out of baby socks - I raided our single sock pile of lost matches. I jut cut neck holes and arm holes for Abbey and Lagoona's dresses, and the ankle part of the sock is where their butt is (it's a little too big but it works for now) and for Cleo's I cut the top all the way off and cut vertically down the middle of the back then cut horizontally to make ties so it would be fitted.

I just got a CAM vampire girl that now needs a dress, I think I'll check out those links. Thanks for those Salli!

yay for dresses! I have one in progress, but I also have plans for another one, and this latter might as well count as spring-themed imho, so I'll try to make this challenge
...unlike the last one, I never got to finish a single pair of trousers or leggings :cloud:

love your dresses, Katgyrl! I can only second that baby and children's socks are such nice things to make dollie outfits from, they often have such a lovely pattern, and some clothes or accessories are quite easy to make out of them.

Such cute dresses, Katgyrl! Socks are the best :D I wonder if a pair of American Girl doll-sized socks would make good doll clothes? They would be tighter.... Hmmmmmm. Also, Congrats on the MH dolls, watch out, they multiply. I have like 37 now or something and I'm not sure how.....

Don't worry, Loona. My pants did not work well. I need to redo the waisband  -_-

YAY jennova!!! I hope moving it went well. :D I have so much adorable fabric to make dresses from. I need to chain myself to  my sewing machine sometime this next week :D

I plan on making more, but I had a migraine and wanted something easy to sew. :) It's non-fraying fabric so I was able to just cut out arm holes for her!

Cute dress Jennova!

Yes, my 3 MH have already multiplied into 5  :P

I got two new dresses during my visit to Target today. I peeked in the MH section (dangerous) and saw they had Operetta and had to get her since I'm a huge Phantom of the Opera fan, and then saw this cute outfit for Lagoon that I had to get (so now her little sock dress is on the CAM vampire girl I just got)

Aren't they cute? And look, Operetta has a friend already.  ^.^

Not really clothing, but I made my daughter two chairs the other day for her Barbie house.

I used the instructions from the Froggy website, they are no sew no glue! I used baby onesies that had stains on the fronts and put them around sections of a poster mailing tube that I cut to size and shape. Easy and Quick! And so far they've stayed intact.

Here's a pic with Cleo and Lagoona (before she got her new dress), they are a good size for MH as well.

Cute chairs Katy!

I got a knit dress done a few days ago, but haven't had time to post it yet.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

It's made from a sock. :D The sock had this ribbed part in the middle for "arch support" so I used that for the neckline part. I made her a hat using the toe and the ankle ribbing, but I accidentally sewed the ribbing on backwards  :argh: so I didn't take a picture of that.

Abbey looks good it in, yeah? Though I'm debating putting it on Rochelle now that she's here (she came today!) since it's more her colors. I'll have to make another one for Abbey if I do.  ^.^

I see there's not much movement here recently :( needless to say, I didn't get to make a dress either -____-
however, technically I did do the challenge, because my Moxie Teenz accessory packs I ordered awhile ago have arrived, so Tristen got a new dress (the wig won't be hers, I just wanted to try it on) ^^

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

(and I got a new camera ^^ after a year of being without I finally have a small compact camera again :lovey: first I was a little disappointed with its quality, but I think it's only its screen which is bad, in full size the pics are pretty good for a small and relatively cheap compact. it will be perfect for always having around, and I'll spare the HQ pics for a better, non-compact camera, which is my next goal of purchase. with my new job and better salary I can hopefully start putting money away for one at last - it's been a long-time dream for me :) )

aww, I hope you get better very soon Salli, sickness can so ruin trips :(
I'll also have two short trips this week (a one-day and another one during the weekend) and I'm looking forward to them, also the week in general, but I'll have so much to do (I'll have some really long workdays and I'll also go to a concert on one evening) I have fears of how I'll manage everything :P

I've been making ponywear, but no dolly clothes. It's actually been sunny here so I got to get out in my garden a couple times last week! :frolic:

MH sized fedoras sound adorable! I can't wait to see those, Salli!

Hasn't it just been gorgeous here?? I got out and cut a bunch of flowers from my garden to bring into my house. I can't wait til my jasmine is in bloom.

If I ever get another scanner I will scan in the MH fedora pattern and share. Going to be sewing today so I will be making some doll dresses too. I made a sketch of some groups I want to make, the biggest of which I call 'basic blacks'. I need everything in black for photo shoots. Dresses, tops, bottoms, jewelry, accessories, you name it. Then I will do it all in white. Speaking of which...

I have a dilemma....

I have a TON of clothes now. My question is: How do you organize them?!?!?!?!?!. I used to have a little bag and a bead organizer for shoes and 3-d accessories. Now I feel like I can't find anything because they are all in a jumble!! I was thinking of maybe trying a binder with baseball-card-organizer-sheets for clothes like tops and bottoms. I want to be able to see things separately. But what to do with shoes and jewelry and bigger clothes like gowns and coats. Ideas anyone?????? S.O.C. (Save our closet)

Post Merge: May 01, 2013, 09:40:04 AM

I'm an idiot. A hang up jewelry organizer sounds awesome for bigger clothes. And I even HAVE one I am not using! I think I will try the binder for the smaller clothes. Still not sure how I want to store jewelry and accessories...

I have a little three drawered box covered in this funky fabric. It used to be my mom's growing up. I am now using it to store my clothes in. I'll try snap a photo for you guys later today. Hanging jewelry storage things sound like a good idea.

Swimsuit challenge would be appropriate for this time of the year

Altering totally counts, as well as buying, finding or trading. The challenge is to make or acquire one (by legal means only please ;) ) of whatever.

Still sick. Finally giving in and going to see the doc today, probably getting antibiotics, which I hate taking. After 3 weeks of this pain and inability to breathe....? I surrender.  :bawl:

Sunday we can start our swimwear challenge :D I am working on some dresses as we speak.

I'm bAAAAaaaaack!!!!

So, this summer was madness!! I did make some things for the Battle of the Modelling Agencies on Flikr! but I still have yet to make my Tonner girl anything new or my doll clothing storage. Wait! I take that back, I organized my doll shoes and handbags. (I'll get pix later today)

I am determined to make more clothes, and even have some commissions. I just finally found a website that sells tiny doll zippers and I also ordered some snaps.
http://fletcherpatterncompany.com/index.php

I haven't made a swimsuit yet, although I did buy some swatches of swimwear out of a clearance bin that look like they'll make amazing swimsuits for my MH girls. Did anyone make anything over the summer?
Anyone making Halloween threads for their dollies?

Welcome back Salli!

Thanks for the link to the tiny zippers! I keep trying to find those but it seems like most places want you to buy them in bulk! I may try to order some zippers and snaps, I've been tempted to try snaps instead of Velcro but I can never find tiny enough ones in the fabric store.

I didn't get a whole lot of sewing done this summer. :S But I did recently make a few pairs of leggings for MH dolls, and a headband! I'm working on a outfit for a commission right now. It's taking me WAY too long to complete! I'll be excited to post pics of it when I'm done though, because I'm really excited for how it will turn out!

My dolls are SO GROUNDED!! They have trashed their shoe vault!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

jk ;) it was me  We had a big photoshoot this week and shoes and clothes are everywhere!!! I am grounding myself.
Anyhow, I wanted to post my storage that I have finished. This was formerly a bead organizer that I got for free and I spray painted it white with Krylon Fusion for plastic. Then I fastened it to the wall of one of my doll shelves and now it's a lovely shoe closet. It is so much easier to shop from than other containers when I need shoes and it fits right in with my living vicariously through my dolls because I wish I had a shoe vault and that many shoes.

I forgot that I started using this medicine container for my doll earrings and bracelets (they are SO SMALL!!) and it works amazingly well. I even have the jewelry kind of arranged by color, golds go in yellow, silvers and blue go in blue, etc... I want to either take off the black writing with acetone or decorate the lids with stickers. I am going to try the acetone first because I like being able to see through the lids so I can find stuff without having to open every compartment.

I am going to try using trading card protector pages for my smaller clothes, I will keep you update on how that goes...

Salli I love your dolly shoe closet!

I got two scrapbooking organizers recently that are like little briefcases and open on both sides, with compartments on one side for embellishments and a bigger space on the other for paper. It works perfectly for my daughter's Barbie clothing! We put shoes and accessories in the smaller compartments on the deeper side, with shirts and pants in the bigger compartments, then the other side is big enough to fit the full dresses. It works great and her barbie stuff is not all over the floor because she's trying to dig out the clothes! I'll have to see if I can take a pic, my camera's being weird right now.c
