Official Disney Thread!

Hi Arena members! I wanted to start a Disney thread for all things Disney because I just love it! And I wanted to share and talk about Disney with other fans (being that Arena is pretty much my only message board online!) I welcome all fans of anything and everything Disney! We can talk about anything in this thread that has to do with Disney, from movies, to merch, fan club, news, etc.!

Here are some discussion topics to consider for more focused conversation too!

I grew up with Disney, watching the old Mickey/friends shorts, and of course the classics. I saw Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King all in theatres when they first came out (those are the ones I remember best)! I think my first Disney film was Snow White, but I remember Cinderella the most vividly. My favourite Disney film is probably The Lion King but I love so many of them, and of course the Pixar films (Toy Story!)

Right now I'm into Brave and I just got myself a lot of Brave stuff during the Disney Store's Black Friday sales event! I got Classic Merida, the Elinor doll, giant stuffed bear Elinor, and a stuffed Angus. I also got the DVD/Blu-ray combo on sale for like 8$USD at Amazon. I was like SCREAM! I wish I could buy the LE (Limited Edition) Merida/Elinor set like burning  but I only work part-time (go to college at the same time) and I just bought family/fiancee presents, so I am dirt poor. BUT AH GODS I WANT IT.  -_- I love Merida and Elinor!!

The last Disney movie I saw was Wreck-it Ralph and eee I loved it!! Vanellope was AMAZING! I highly recommend this movie for strong and butt-kicking female characters! Sometimes Disney is bad in that area so I was like YES Disney you are doing it RIGHT!

Does anyone here have a D23 (http://www.disneystore.com/mn/1001064/) membership?  ^.^ I don't live near the parks so I've been wondering if it's worth it if you don't live near theme, since a lot of the discounts/perks focus on the parks.

Some of my best Disney memories [being that it's the season!] are of Mickey's Christmas Carol which I watch every holiday season  I just love it so much, and of course the book, by Charles Dickens is also one of my favourites now that I'm ~grown-up~ (what's that mean).

Anyone else dying to go to New Fantasyland (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/new-fantasyland/) (new Disney park expansion)?  :dribble:

I'm still playing Epic Mickey 1 (haven't finished yet because my sister owns the Wii  ) I think it has horrible gameplay but I play it for kicks!

Did you guys hear that Disney bought Star Wars? OMGS! I am a friggin huge Star Wars fan...I love Disney but uhh...NOT sure how to feel here. Although I don't like Lucas either. I'm just sort of waiting to see what happens!

And of course, Disney definitely has it's drawbacks without it markets kids/specific genders which I think is SO annoying and really in some ways damaging.  But, I think many of the Disney movies can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone  :D

So, what are YOUR Disney stories and thoughts?

I just saw Wreck It Ralph. I LOVE its score. I'm waiting for it in my library. And I just borrowed from the library a Disney tribute CD by Jenny Oaks Baker, a violinist.  http://www.jennyoaksbaker.com/

My favorite Disney movie is Oliver and Company. I'm getting into the Disney Princesses more because of Once Upon a Time. But I've always loved the villains!

Aww, I love Oliver and Company too! I loved the songs when I was little (BILLY JOEL in Disney movie ). I know what you mean about Wreck-It Ralph omgs  it was basically FLAWLESS! I loved the song at the credits as well.

Have you seen the Disney Villains (http://www.disneystore.com/disney-villains/mn/1000017/) swag? It's pretty intense!!

I have the "Pretty Wicked" purple t and I loooove it. The Evil Queen mug too. I want that Snow White print so bad.

Oliver is such an underrated Disney movie!  Wreck it Ralph the movie was awesome too, I have zero complaints. And Paperman? Gorgeous.

My favorite new-ish Disney movie is Brave, and my favorite older Disney movie is The Little Mermaid.

Right now I'm having fun buying each Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack as they re-release them. :)

I feel like the Mother Gothel doll is so perfect that it's frightening  !

There are a lot of "Classics" that don't get that much love. I still have all of these movies in their clamshells and I think I've watched them all like a million times. I think Oliver was also around the time of The Black Cauldron which is just horrifying (I was scared to death as a kid!) but there are some films that just never get as talked about! Which is a real shame. I wish even Robin Hood had more merch. (...and non-animated features...like...Bedknobs and Broomsticks, anyone?)

My g/f was in love with the Paperman short.  ;) I'm going to surprise her on Xmas with something themed...!

I love Disney!  Some of my favorite Disney movies are Bambi, 101 Dalmatians, Fox and the Hound, Fantasia, Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules.  There are a lot more I could put, but I will leave it at that.  :P

I was taken to Disney World in Florida for my 6th birthday and it was AMAZING!!  We stayed in one of the cabins, and we got to go into the park about a half hour before every one else (part of the package deal we bought).  I saw an ice skating play, the fireworks at Epcot, and Chip and Dale sang me happy birthday!  I'm hoping that when I graduate college in about seven years that I can go again.

I haven't got to see Wreck It Ralph yet, but it looks very good!  Not interested in seeing Brave though.  I just really don't care for Pixar movies.  The only ones I like are Toy Story and Finding Nemo, though I don't watch Finding Nemo too much because it is a little long for me to sit through.

Some of my favorite Disney songs are "He's a Tramp", "Hellfire", "I Bring You a Song", "Why Should I Worry?" and "I See the Light."

My favorite Disney princess is Jasmine, followed by Aurora and Tiana.  My favorite villains are Maleficent, Captain Hook and Frollo.

Oh, and I love the Kingdom Hearts games!

Sorry if I wrote too much, I just really love Disney!   :lovey:

I loved Wreck-it Ralph!  I've seen it twice.

I am a little obsessed with Disney villains.  My favorite is Ursula.  "Poor Unfortunate Souls"?  Best villain song ever.

I looooooooooooooove Ursula. I'm going to die when they show her on Once Upon a Time. Ahhhhh. But I hate the thin doll they made. Just no.

Oh my gosh, you just reminded me that I didn't say my favourite characters!, who of course Chip and Dale!! I also went to Disney for one of my birthdays (but I was older) and they also came to see me. I had breakfast with Mickey Mouse. I thought I was going to die and go to heaven. XD The front end of the Disney parade also sang me Happy Birthday, but I was so mortified I ran away crying.  Lmao!

I didn't actually enjoy my trip to Disney except for the characters. I felt like I had outgrown some of the staple rides and attractions. My family didn't have enough money to take me before then and I felt like I'd really missed out. I was like, 'This is kid stuff!' Now I am nostalgic however and feel like I would have a great time if I got to go!

Some of my favourite songs are, "From Zero to Hero" (Hercules) "Be a Man" (Mulan) "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" (TLK) also "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (TLK).

IMO Mulan is best princess. She's kicking butts and taking names! But I still argue that even Cinderella was a BAMF. I mean, she lived in that super abusive house and ran away to the ball all by herself, she was like Forget the haters! Of course, a lot of the princess cliches are so not cool.  I mean, Aurora, etc., she doesn't get to do anything.

I highly recommend Wreck-It Ralph to everyone that hasn't seen it :D It's very clever, quirky, retro and funny! It gets you right in the feels with Ralph and Vanellope's relationship. But there are a lot of great relationships in the film.

I'm not kidding, I was terrified of Ursula as a kid  :lookround: Like when she sings into the mirror -- I was like arghhhhhh. I used to watch The Little Mermaid a lot as a kid, but not so much now.

StarDapple, what are your thoughts on not liking the Pixar films? Do they just feel too long, or something else? I'm curious what you think.  :) I'm a big fan but I'm interested why you feel differently!

Have you guys seen the previews for the new film "Oz" by Disney? I felt like not thrilled with it. :/

@ StoryDreamer: Do you mean the designer Ursula?? I didn't even think of that till right now!  Yeah, I agree, Ursula has got to be Ursula!

Disney will always have a place inside of us...I think thats apart of the magic that started when we were kids :)

I went to WDW maybe 5 years ago and had a blast (soo many majical moments..its crazy!)  Will probably end up going again if personal issues tame down and opportunity arises.  That said, im stuck in my own past and like what I liked when I was a kid.  I havent really seen the newer disney films and kind of wish it would go back to cellshading..but thats me :)  My top 3 are Little mermaid, Lion king, and Pocahontas, though Tinkerbelle has a very special place with me as well as Jasmine.

I still prefer hand drawn to the new CG animation, but my favorite princesses are Rapunzel and Snow White.  Opposites on the spectrum in so many ways!  I've always been a Rapunzel fan though.  That has been my favorite fairytale ever since I was a child and it still is even though Disney's is so different from the older versions I love.

Another favorite of mine is Jane and I recently fell in love with Queen Elinor.  I'm not a big fan of Merida though.  I don't relate to her at all.

I also love Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine.  I'm a princess movie fan.

Wreck-It-Ralph was totally awesome. My boyfriend and I went to see it and we both LOVED IT. Turned us into mush though. Wreck-it-Ralph is a good one that can appeal to guys or gals equally it's got the cuteness and aww factor that most girls love, as well as a strong female character. Ralph is great cuz he's misunderstood and has an inner battle to fight, and all the retro video game references are loved by gals and guys alike. Me and the boyfriend had a really mutually good time at this one, unlike Frankenweenie which I loved and he said was lame.

I love a lot of classic Disney movies as well. Ariel is my favorite Disney Princess, I also love Pocahontas. I haven't seen Rapunzel or Brave though I would like to and the BF has mentioned wanting to see Brave so I will probably milk that for all it's worth and talk him into renting it or something for us.

Lilo and Stitch is an absolute fave, saw it when it came out in theaters, and used to have the dvd but it got stolen when I went through a particularly nasty breakup along with my special edition Finding Nemo (Which really sucks as I've looked on amazon and that one is EXPENSIVE to replace and original was a Christmas gift from the folks, still makes me sad and this happened YEARS ago...)

A favorite from Childhood is Alice in Wonderland and the Cheshire cat in Particular, I liked the newer one, but not as much as I thought I would. The original is still best. Alice doesn't get enough publicity. Also one of my favorite books.

I also really rather like some of the Villians too now that I'm older :) Would love to have some of their merch though I don't yet.

I've been a huge Disney fan for many, many years. Disneyland Paris is like a second home to me, even though I can't afford to visit more than once a year :P

For movies, I love The Lion King. Simba has been my favorite character from any movie or series for many a year now. I'm also a huge fan of Lilo & Stitch, Aladdin, Mulan and Oliver & Company. I really want to see Wreck it Ralph, but from what I understand UK is one of the last countries to receive it :(

Also, I still prefer 2D animation over 3D in most Disney films. I'm sad they're turning to 3D :(

Oh yes, and I LOVE Epic Mickey. I've always been curious about Oswald, so that was another reason I had to buy it. And I love Gus too.

My dad keeps a video on his phone of the time I was like, six? at disneyland and the Baloo person in costume scared me and I pushed and knocked them into the bushes and the Chip person in costume chased me and I ran away screaming.

Thanks for filming it, dad. THANKS FOR NOT RESCUING ME.

StarDapple, what are your thoughts on not liking the Pixar films? Do they just feel too long, or something else? I'm curious what you think.  :) I'm a big fan but I'm interested why you feel differently!

I think the length may be part of it, but I'm not entirely sure on that either, since I can watch the extended cut of Lord of the Rings with no problem.

I honestly think that, to me, Pixar tries too hard.  Like in Wall-E, it just seems like they kept shoving the point of the movie in my face.  Kind of like "DO YOU GET IT???  People got super lazy and trashed the planet and now they're FAT!  And they can't do anything!  GET IT?!?!"  It's great that they are trying to put messages and themes in their movies, but I think it would be much better to be more subtle about it.

And though I haven't seen Brave, it seems like they are doing the same thing.  They want to break the Princess mold, which is fine, but from what I've seen and read it just feels like that point is way too in your face.  And besides, didn't they already do this with Mulan (which is an excellent movie IMO)?

Even when they aren't trying too hard, most Pixar movies just don't hold my interest.  I've actually ended up falling asleep while watching several of them.   ^^;

I'm not trying to bash anyone that likes or loves Pixar, these are just my opinions.  You love animation too, and that's great!

I just saw Wreck it Ralph over the weekend.  It was fantastic!  The best movie I have seen in a while!

What are your favourite Disney films?
Let's see... I really like beauty and the beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Wreck it Ralph, Brave, Rapunzel, and Robinhood

Who are your favourite Disney characters?
Belle, Pocahontas, Ralph, Merida and her mom, Jasmine, Rapunzel...

What was the last Disney-related purchase you made?
I bough the book the art of wreck it Ralph and a cute wreck it Ralph t shirt on eBay yesterday.

What are your best Disney memories?
Seeing beauty and the beast in movie theaters, playing with Disney dolls as a kid, taking my daughter to see brave and wreck it Ralph.

What movies or characters do you dislike?
I wasn't a fan of the later ninety early 2000 Disney movies, but now I don't mind them.  I think this was more of a "things were better when I was a kid" kind of thing.

ARE YOU EXCITED FOR NEW FANTASYLAND
Hadn't heard about it.

Thoughts the latest Disney news, games etc.
Not much, jut happy to see what they have to offer in the future.

They keep trying to "break the princess mold" with each new princess movie.  It started with Ariel.  Even though she falls in love at first site and gives up her tail right away "for a man", she was still not a traditional princess at the time.  She was feisty and spoke her mind and disobeyed her father and made things happen.  Then you have Jasmine running away from being a princess.  Again she was outspoken and sassy and wanted to do things on her own and not just let things happen to her.  Then there is Belle who was an outsider bookworm atypical girl in the village.  She breaks the curse with the Beast so now you have both prince and princess working together.  Pocahontas, Esmeralda, and Mulan are all active "princesses" creating there story and saving the day.  Tiana doesn't even want love and instead strives to have her dream job.  Even Rapunzel (who should NOT be a very active princess because she has been locked away for all her life), takes matters into her own hands when opportunity presents itself.  Plus they made her a very athletic princess who fights back when she can.  And now Merida, the princess who is all about athletics, sport, fun, and has nothing to do with love at all.

With every princess they try to make her more and more "anti-princess".  But really, there is nothing wrong with a princess acting like a princess.  Cinderella is still one of the most beloved princesses and she is as stereotypical as you can get.  I like the variety of princesses we have, but they don't need to break the mold because it has already been broken.

I agree completely.  What's wrong with wanting to be like a princess?  I know when I was a kid, and I was very much the tomboy, I dressed up like a fairy tale princess and had a great time.  I doubt we'll ever see a Princess behaving like a Princess though, at least not for a long, long time.

So true.  They are coming out with a version of the Snow Queen soon.  I wonder how they are going to portray the two main females:  The Queen and Gerda.  I guess they are changing the story up a lot and they are calling it "Frozen".  The girl who is supposed to be the main hero who saves her brother from the Snow Queen will not be called Gerda for example (she will be Anne) and I think she and the Queen will be sisters (Anna and Elsa) and there may not be a brother at all.  I think it is going to be a story of sisterhood.

I like the concept, but the story is going to be very different from the original much like all Disney adaptations are.

Anna is most likely going to be blonde and her sister the Snow Queen has white hair so far.  I was hoping Anna would have brown hair.  Of all the princesses only Belle has brown hair.

I've got a question for everyone!  Do any of you collect Disney merchandise?  I collect books, stuffed animals, plastic figures, keychains and other miscellaneous items.  I focus mainly on 101 Dalmatians and Bambi, but if it's Disney and I come across it at a garage sale or something, I will most likely buy it.

Heh, when I first went to Disneyland Paris when I was about 5 years, my (now late) grandmother wanted me to have a princess dress. I refused entirely, and strayed over to the swords/boys section instead :silly:

Ah, the only princess I ever liked when I was younger was Jasmine. As an adult, I like Mulan, Jasmine and Ariel, but the others I'm still not interested in at all. I don't hate them, I just don't care for them though, if that makes sense. Or maybe I'm still a little disgruntled that Disney like to leave out other princesses in merchandise (Like Princess Eilonwy, for example) or non-human princesses (Nala? Faline? So underrated).

But on a lighter note, yes! I collect Lion King memorabilia primarily. I also pick up the odd Stitch item here and there, as well as any general Disney items that I happen to like (which is not as much as I used to sadly). I also love Oswald, but there's not much in the way of his merchandise still :(
Title: Re: Official Disney Thread~ Go see Wreck-It Ralph!
Post by: Marigold on December 05, 2012, 07:21:51 PM
Part of the reason Eilonwy is left out is because The Black Cauldron was locked away for YEARS because it was hailed as being too dark for public consumption.  After its initial debut it was hidden away because of this.  It wasn't until much later that people remembered it existed and Disney desided society was ready for it.  So she is not well known.

Also because she is younger she gets put in a different catagory with Alice Wendy and now Sophia.

Omg, they actually changed the name to Frozen  -_-  it's almost as if Disney is absolutely petrified that their movies will sound anything like princess movies. Ugh...
Title: Re: Official Disney Thread~ Go see Wreck-It Ralph!
Post by: Marigold on December 06, 2012, 05:28:07 AM
Yep Frozen.  One one hand I hate that they feel the need to change classic names.  On the other hand maybe there will be a degree of separation between the Disney version and the "original"* tales.

So possibly people out there think of Tangled as a different telling of Rapunzel rather than being the new canon story of Rapunzel.  Where as something like Beauty and the Beast made by Disney has replaced the original version of the story which was quite different in many ways.  Disney version is now the more canon telling of the story.  Same with Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Snow White etc.

*I put original in quotes because many fairy tales do not have true original versions.  For example there are many versions of Rapunzel that existed before the Grimms Brothers put the now most well known version onto paper.  In fact the first Rapunzel was probably Persian and had long raven black hair.

Some do have clear origins:  For example The Little Mermaid story was created by Anderson and was not based on any previous story (aside from the mythology of mermaids existing).  But most people still think of Disney's story as being the canon version.

My emotional attachment to Beauty and the Beast borders on the absurd. I've just felt so strongly connected to Belle for as long as I can remember. Seeing the movie in theaters again during the 3D re-release last year? Moved me to tears. Looking at all the pictures of Beast's Castle in New Fantasyland? Practically moved me to tears. I don't know how I would even deal with actually being there in person, it would be overwhelming (in a good way)! Regardless, it's definitely a life goal of mine to visit now.

While I still love the princesses, I've grown more and more fond of the villains as I've gotten older. I am crazy in love with Maleficent and Ursula, as distinct characters, practically removed from the context of their movies. I love to collect their merchandise just as much if not more than my BatB.

And I agree, everyone should go see Wreck-It Ralph. It's just a wonderful, sweet movie.

StarDapple, I can see what you're getting at, I think! I have many friends who consider everything Pixar to be perfect. Personally, I can't get behind "Cars" because it was so blatantly made for young boys and I am selfish. ;) I want something deep; something I can discuss over tea and call a "film."

"Wall-E" had its moments, but for reasons similar to what you stated, it is not part of my collection.

If you have not seen "Up," I think you should give it a try! I've found to be one of their most powerful works.

The "Toy Story" series stayed pretty solid for me the whole way through, which is impressive given that it's a trilogy!

Anyway, talking strictly Disney... I am one of those "Lion King" kids for sure, though as a young child, I used to watch "The Little Mermaid" day in, day out! :) I also love movies from their "Sketchy" phase, like "Sword in the Stone." That style was so delightfully expressive!

Lion King was so well done.  And the music impressive and powerful.  I feel the same way about the music in Hunchback, although I still can't get over what Disney did to the story.  I've read the book and it is a tragic story where everyone dies or is unhappy except the goat and Esmeralda's husband.  Yes, husband.  In the book she "marries" some strange man (not Pheobus who is portrayed as a womanizer who does not love Esmeralda)  You have to read it to understand why the "marries" is in quotes.

Oh god, I live 5 minutes from pixar and I feel like a super jerk for being mostly bored by them. I think my biggest problem with pixar is that it is so male-oriented. I did however enjoy The Incredibles and I was very happy with Brave so I hope I will like their future projects as well.

Actually, I completely agree with you on the male-oriented thing. That's a big problem with Pixar. Brave was a big deal because of that. I hope they make more films where the main character(s) are female.

I'm one of those Lion King/ Beauty and the Beast kids. I grew up with lady and the tramp and Cinderella. I remember going to the Disney store for high quality items. Alot has changed since then including releasing nothing but CGI movies.

I am simply not a pixar fan. They lack that special feeling you get from hand drawn animation.

Up was sorta cute after the depressing beginning. The beginning kinda ruined it for me. I am willing to go see wreck it ralph when it comes out to rent.

I think I love Pixar for their storytelling, because imo they are sooo good at it (like Toy Story, Finding Nemo as my favs). I don't dislike a film based on the fact it's CGI, but I'm really not happy that like every movie is now CGI. There's definitely a give-and-take happening though. I was sooo stoked for the Princess and the Frog because it was harking back to those great hand-animated features, but then I thought the story was really badly executed and ended up not enjoying it at all.

But overall I definitely agree. I feel like losing all the beautiful and lush painted backgrounds, etc., is a real loss. I remember watching the "previews" for Aladdin and the animators showing how they made the characters move. It was so cool. I really hate how animated films are generally linked with "childish" impression. First of all, films like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, etc., were not shallow. Yet a lot of people come away with that impression, like 'it's animated? those movies are for kids.' -> implies the movie is stupid. What the heck??? (I also get a LOT of crap at my house for liking Disney films, stuffed animals, etc., like ~that's for kids grow up!~). I feel like hand-drawn animation isn't seen as viable for really profound stories now. And society also seems to think that it's too old-fashioned to be relevant. Why are animated stories always thought of as "less" than stories told with real-action or even CGI films? And what is with the CGI proliferation anyway?? Is it mainly Pixar's success...? I suppose there was also that movie Avatar that got everyone all hyped up for ~3D films~ (I don't even like them!).

:( I feel like hand-drawn animation has been left in the dust for no good reason. I don't think it's, for example, Pixar's fault, but I do think it's probably related to Pixar's success...? (And maybe hand-drawn animation is more expensive, but I don't know, the credits on a Pixar film are huge.) Hand-drawn animation has really been relegated to that "only for dumb kid's stuff" more than ever I feel...at least in USA. I know some countries, like Japan, have actually figured out how viable the medium is. e_e (Well, I guess anime probably isn't hand-drawn these days, but it does have the look of hand-drawn animation.)

I think Princess and the Frog ruined it for hand drawn.  Disney blames its lack of success on the animation when it is entirely the fault of poor storyline design.  It had the potential for greatness.

Then Tangled is a big success and it is CG so they are reaffirmed in their thinking instead of realizing that Tangled had an incredibly good story and was well executed.  It would have been a hit if it was hand drawn too (and I still wish it was because Rapunzel is my favorite tale and I prefer the magic of hand drawn animation).

I don't think either hand drawn or CGI has any advantage over the other. Both are only as good as the effort put into them. Bad hand drawn is just as hideous as bad CGI. And anyways they are very close to the point where CGI looks like hand drawn. The short "Paperman" really seems to blur the line between CGI and hand drawn.

The way some people hold hand drawn above CGI bugs me. It is the same kind of mentality artists who work with digital illustration tools have to sometimes deal with. Creating with a program is just as difficult as drawing with pencil and paper. There is no "create art" button that can be clicked and art appears as if by magic. It is just different tools that an artist can use.

I watched Up.  It failed completely to hold my interest.  The only part I liked was the "SQUIRREL!!!" part, and the Doberman, cuz I love Dobermans.  <3

I personally MUCH prefer traditional, hand drawn animation.  There is just so much more life in them, to me, than in CGI pics.  All of my favorite Disney movies are hand drawn.  I would have loved it if Rapunzel had been hand drawn too.  I love Tangled, but I saw some of Glen Keane's art for it, and was blown away!

I think Disney is starting to believe that CGI IS better than hand drawn and will get them more revenue.  I don't believe one is better than the other, but I hate to see hand drawn fizzling out.

I prefer hand drawn.  I like how it looks better.  I think it looks more "magical" and appealing.  But those are my athletics.  I like CGI too especially now that it is really getting good looking.  Finding Nemo is amazing in CGI and I wouldn't have preferred hand drawn for it.  In fact, I like CGI mixed with hand drawn best.  Mixing the two media produces something very special.

With Tangled, I loved the CGI animation but because I prefer the look of hand drawn I wished this movie would have been hand drawn.  I love the hand drawn art of her I have seen and because the story has always been my favorite, I would have wanted her to be in my favorite style.  I wanted it to look like a painting like some of the original art for it.  Maybe mix some CGI with the hand drawn art, but give it that classic amazing hand drawn touch.  But, that said, the movie was spectacular.  The CGI looks amazing, especially with her hair, and I can not really complain much about how it turned out in CGI form even if I wanted it to be hand drawn.

I saw Wreck-It Ralph. I liked it, but it also felt really condensed, like they really wanted to expand on this world the creative team came up with, but time constraints didn't allow it. Can't blame them for not wanting to make a 2 hour family movie.

Paperman looked great, but I feel like the woman looked like so many CGI-animated women. Big ol' eyes, round face, button nose. Can't the ladies have interesting faces?

Aw, I LOVED her!  I thought she was unique looking and I really liked her hair.  But you are right about most CGI having big eyes and rounder faces.  This however was a fusion of 2D and CGI from what I read.  Not sure how that works but it felt like a little of both to me with an emphasis on the hand drawn.  So I thought it looked more hand drawn than anything else.

She just looks like your typical "Disney" girl. Tiana kind of had that look too.

Yes, that is true.  I guess I like that look, although Disney can (and has) done some girls who look less typical.

C'mon, Disney, give a lady character a nice, distinguished nose. Men ain't the only ones who have 'em.

And smaller eyes. Please and thank you.
