Title: Ebay Seller creates label 5 days after I pay with BIN UPDATED
Post by: tulagirl on November 15, 2012, 02:15:07 PM
I bought something on the 10th.  I wrote the seller immediately asking for a date for shipping. No response. Wrote her today...no response, but then a tracking number shows up on my account today.  Mind you it doesn't track so there is no way of knowing if this item will ship today or even tomorrow and with the weekend and the fact that this is not priority mail it may be after Thanksgiving before I get it.  I say that because the mail might not run on Thursday next week.

I am so frustrated with sellers doing this to me.  Making me wait 5 days, not responding to my messages, and shipping who knows when.  I really needed this stuff to get started with my project I had planned.  Now I will have to wait probably another week due to the weekend and holiday.  To pay by bin and using a cc...really she had her money a long time ago.

I guess I just have a short fuse now with all that is going on, but to me this is just really bad business to not ship for nearly a week. Just because you give me a tracking number...doesn't mean my package will be shipped even in the  next 48 hours. I mean it might...but who knows.

She says she ships within 48 hours. Thats way sooner than 5 days...  I guess if she had been willing to at least write me to explain it wouldn't have mattered so much. I am just so stressed out right now. This is really adding to it. I was hoping to be able to work on my owls over the Thanksgiving holiday while staying with my parents.

It's an unfortunate situation Tula.  I apologize.

But was there any sort of handling time listed in her description about when to expect your package to be shipped? Most sellers will state how long it will take, such as 3, 5, 10 days etc. She may have had a 3 day handling time and with the holiday on Monday it could have affected it.

And for the record the number that was provided for you will almost always track your package, even if it was just a delivery confirmation number. That number if anything else will tell you exactly when it was accepted at the PO.

If a seller says they ship with in 48 hours, then finally ships the item 5 days later, and also does not respond to emails or give any reason why it's being shipped late? well, that is what the star ratings are for, I guess.

If it arrives in good shape/as shown, and shipping looks about right, then I'd leave them a neutral; slow shipping isn't worth a negative to me, but slow shipping, seller not doing what they say they will(shipping within 48 hrs), *and* bad communication together don't get a positive from me!

Yea Ponylady, I updated my original post to state that she said she would ship within 48 hours.  But its like Lunar said. I have made two attempts within the last 48 hours to contact her through ebay and she just will not write me back with any information at all.  The tracking number so far does not track and has no information that my item has been dropped off at the post office.  So that tells me she has not dropped it off yet.  So even with the holiday and Sunday, she has not shipped my item in a timely fashion.  She created the label, but its not been mailed.  My guess is she will hold on to it for a couple of days.  Which makes it impossible for me to get it before Thanksgiving. ARGH

Sorry you must have updated as I was posting.  ;)

I am not sure there is much you can do except leave approriate feedback.  If she is unwilling to answer your questions then a low star is deserved for communication.  And if your package does not arrive within the time frame that ebay has estimated it at, then a low star rated is deserved in that category also.

It's very disappointing when sellers do not communicate.  But your only repercussion at this point is to leave accuarate and honest feedback once your item has arrived.

It is really sad, but this is exactly why eBay is so hard on sellers anymore.  It only takes one to give all of them a bad name.

Sorry for your troubles, Tula.  Hopefully you got a great enough deal that they will be worth the wait ;)

This is what i would say too ^^  it is annoying if a seller has stated they will send the parcel within a certain timeframe but then ships much later, and bad communication is definitely a no-no :( . If the seller couldnt ship on time they should at least have sent you a message letting you know

If it's a business they are running, I agree, but if it's a private seller? Maybe something RL came up and they couldn't ship/ communicate earlier. Who knows. Hope you get it soon!

Yea this is a private seller without a store that sells the same thing over and over which makes me think they have a business in their city.  Here is why I don't  think communication is a problem due to something coming up...the second time I sent them a question within a few hours of that message they didn't reply to, the tracking number that doesn't track showed up on my account.  So, I know they were on ebay that day and had enough time to create a label so they should have had enough time to address one of the two messages I sent them.

I don't know what kind of feedback I will leave.  I guess I just wanted to vent as this kind of thing really bothers me.  I am waiting for a package from China as well and that takes forever.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking as well. Sure real life happens, but if something hinders you from shipping or communicating then once you are back you should respond to the messages you missed.

There will be no mail on Thursday next week - federal holiday for Thanksgiving. Post offices will be closed and no mail will be delivered (I think the exception is express mail, but I'm not sure if that's still the case). There will be mail Friday.

My guess is if they are this slow to get around to getting their auctions out the door, you can expect to see your package the first week of December. :(

Aw I'm super sorry.
I tend to lean on the side that many sellers are just normal people, and they can get caught up with life. But when it's been this long, they really owe you some sort of explanation, and it's as simple as that.

I think the only safe thing to do is buy from sellers that have 1 day shipping, because that's what ebay pushes for. And if they claim for 1 day shipping, and don't do it, they get consequences from ebay. And even then it's still a gamble in my eyes.

Sometimes someone can print out a tracking thing, and the post office fails to scan it. TBH, it only happens in a blue moon for me... (it's kind of happening atm for me, I hope, since it's been 10 days since the label has been created -- and it doesn't have any indication of being accepted or being in transit. 9__9*).

But you still have sat, mon, tue, and wed. I cross my fingers it still might get to you in time. ):

Im not sure if this is relevant, but I tried out a tracking number yesterday and the website had no info. I tried to call the 800 number to ask someone about it, and I got an error message stating that they were having technical difficulties and to please call back. Then it hung up on me. Maybe there is something messed up on the USPS side of things? *shrug*

Glad you got your items!  In my experience, most sellers are not bad, they are just sporadic sellers.  When eBay is not your main focus, and you are a part time seller, it is hard to keep up with it...
