Title: Frankenstorm headed for the East Coast (USA)
Post by: ChipsteRJ on October 25, 2012, 08:57:36 PM
I have spent the last month fighting with my ISP to deliver reliable service. Found out that  the company got hacked and was successful in hacking my email (all fixed now).

Tonight it took me 3 hours to get online- I think this time it may have to do with a FRANKENSTORM- I don't want to get all psyched out, but it could be interesting/ exciting or even tragic...

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57540360/hurricane-sandy-may-slam-into-u.s-east-coast-as-halloween-week-frankenstorm/

There is a high possibility that my internet activity for the next couple of weeks could be very limited.

Also anyone ordering from e-Bay sellers in the NE/Mid Atlantic States (USA) may experience shipping delays if the storm hits...

.. as with anything it may veer off and not be a concern, but always prep for the worst!

Time to shop for propane, for my camping stove and water.

Yeeeaaah up here in Maine we've been hearing a lot about this Frankenstorm. "The perfect combining of several storm fronts coming together!" they say.

We get storm warnings every year that turn out to be nothing more than a bit of rain and minor flooding. I'm hoping this will be the same. But yeah, wouldn't be surprised if we get delays in shipping because of it.

Stay Safe Chip!

I'm in Ohio and there just calling for some really crappy weather here, not Frankenstorm.  I think your right Marigold  :P  I am not saying that it will not be bad but years from now they'll say "Oh god, remember that storm on Halloween in 2012?" Frankenstorm???

It really helps to have a generator.  I live in hurricane central and we have one.   Be safe.  I can't imagine dealing with a hurricane/snow combo.  Get food and water too....mail your packages before it hits. When IKE hit here we had no mail service for a while.  When it was up and running again it was in this little RV in the parking lot of the post office.   We were out of power for a month with a cat 1 storm.  We only had enough food for a week.  We were very well prepared, but in some ways under prepared for the length of time it would get back to normal and our house was damaged severely by falling trees and there wasn't a hotel or motel anywhere close that had a vacancy so we stayed here with no ceilings and massive holes in the roof.

9__9; In Ohio they were calling it the "perfect storm" on the radio (which would hit all of the east coast...). I hope it's not as bad as they expect... I feel like they hype up storms too much, I'm not sure what to believe and what not to believe.

It's going to be rainy and crappy here all weekend. Hope we don't get anymore than that.

We spent 6 days without power due to the crazy snowstorm that hit the east coast last October. I'm hoping that we won't have a repeat this year, but you never know what the weather will bring.
  :rain: :snow:

Be safe everyone!

Was there a big snowstorm last October?  Seems to be happening more often.  In 2006 we had a bad one in mid October.  Power down for a week!

We're going to get hammered too.  I spent a fortune today on batteries, candles, water and stuff.
It's pretty much guaranteed we are going to lose power, so I'll try to check in when I can:)

Stay safe everyone!!

Day by day we closer & closer to the end of the world... (Don't worry I won't start preaching). This is predicted to be worse than the storm of 1991.

Good luck to anyone who will be affected by this!! During Irene, we lost one of of long weight supporting foundation walls, the roof, the siding and all plumbing. I pray it will not hit us too bad, but we are prepared for the worst and for evacuation (again). Only time will tell with this storm, it is predicted to be worse than Irene was! I hope everyone has taken this seriously and prepares to the best of their ability.

Yep...............

Best response! XD

Up here on the northern tip of the east coast we're getting tons of wind but no rain yet. They say the brunt of the storm will hit is at 5 (which is 3 hours from now) but I'm stuck at work either way. :P

I heard millions are without electricity again. I'm sure this will effect sales big time and shipping, etc. Maybe some non-paying bidders from that area is due to the storm?

90,000 houses in my state alone don't have power at the moment... and I'm one of them. Thankfully I'm at my office in the city and we have power here, so I can check my messages on the Arena! :P

We just got about a foot or so of rain. Didn't lose electricity or flood. I live about 400 miles from the shore, so it was all a hype in upstate NY... but downstate and NJ- terrible- sad and no words to express it. Now to locate all my sales stuff (I had it in water tight containers, but completely unorganized). Anytime something like this happens I wonder how many ponies were destroyed in the fires and floods. Terrible to read of some one paying off their mortgage payment a week before their house was destroyed due to the storm... completely unfathomable....

Luckily I made it through.

Things are back to normal here in Maine, but I hear some places in New York will be without power for a week or more. :(
