Title: FiM Hits the Salvation Army
Post by: Al-1701 on October 20, 2012, 07:02:28 PM
I work at the Salvation (for only a week more) and my job is putting the little tags on the clothing.  This week one of the racks had a pair of little girl's panties with Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie on the front.  No pics.

Anyone else seen FiM stuff at thrift stores?

EDIT:  And ironically this post rids me of my ouchy roids.

I found Snowcatcher today!

My first G4 pony was a Cupcake that I found at Goodwill. I've also found regular brushable Pinkie Pie, TRU exclusive large Pinkie Pie plush, a Fashion Style Fluttershy, tons of McDonald's ponies & an activity book with stickers. There's more things too but they had problems so I didn't buy them.

I bought a 2011 Fashion Style Celestia in a thrift store (no accessories, just the pony), and I see McDonald's FiM ponies all the time.

I've found:

Applejack 2x
Pinkie Pie
Sweetie Swirl
Rarity

And Talking Celestia

And I've been present when my friend found Ploomette and Fluttershy

So, yup they're showing up.  I still find g3s more often, but the are appearing.  :)

Unbelievable...toys become more and more disposable junk these days....I think it is sad...
You know from G1 they where a girls precious friend for over some years until the grow out of them. But with the G4's i looks like the came of the box and fumbled around a little and then trow away...i do not want to know how many really end up in the trash bins!!!

Thrift shops are where I find most of my G4s nowadays.  I've found buckets of FiM McPonies, but also an Applejack with bangs (but no symbol ), Lulu Luck with her tail still done up in plastic and the plastic round her foreleg, light-up Rarity, and a Flitterheart with some very odd colouration issues.  None of them looked particularly played with, which is rather sad.

I don't really get the disposability of toys these days.  It seems vaguely troubling that we live in a society that throws away (or blithely repurposes, in the case of thrift shops) so many things so easily... or maybe I've just watched The Story of Stuff with my son once too often.

I like that ponies turn up in thrift shops - not only does it mean someone has taken the time to not simply throw a pony away but it means a good cause gets money from reselling!

I cant say I have spotted any FiM in charity shops over here yet - I am still enjoying finding G3s :)

Lots of G4 McDonalds Ponies.  I've passed up RD, Rarity and Fluttershy recently.

The other G4 I found was the basic size brushable Applejack with her little saddle.  That's it so far.

Since this is how I plan to get my FS ponies, I am happy to hear that they are starting to show up in thrift stores. Guess this means it's time to start hunting. lol

Off topic, but I think if you pm a mod, that can happen. ;)

On topic, I'm not surprised that so many are finding them. It's the same as finding them at garage sales and stuff.

I would love to find Fashion Style G4s!! You lucky duckies  That would be a DREAM  :lovey:

I saw FS Fluttershy's dress though in a bucket  :cloud:

I have found/seen:
   Lots of McD Ponies
   Twinkleshine with her saddle
Two blossomforths the same day at different stores o.O one still had plastic on leg holding the   hair.
Talking Celestia (Which I was thankful for, really didn't want to pay $20 for her <3 saved like 18 bucks) :shifty:

One of the Blossomforths was in a bag of stuff I didn't want but wasn't priced badly. Unfortunately a lot of stores round here sell em in large bags of phooey too :) I will buy...depending on the pony/price.

One time at Good Will I found FiM So Soft Newborn Sweetie Belle

Neato!

I did find a few McRaritys at a garage sale. They had a 8-year-old out playing in the yard and she gave me a death glare when I bought them. I think her parents forced her to sell something and that's what she chose. But since she was playing with probably $50 worth of LPS merch (IN THE GRASS? My LPS never left my room when I was a kid) I didn't feel too bad.

Unfortunately, those are the only ponies I've ever found at a garage sale. I have MUCH better luck at thrift stores. I envy those who've said they find tons of G3s because I primarily collect G3s and I find an average of one pony per store (it's usually more like I go to 5 stores and then the last one has 5 but it ultimately balances out).

I have to agree with you on this one. I think kids are getting to many things and not enjoying what they have. Its sad :(

Ive not seen them in thrift stores but I have found them at car boot sales (similar to garage sales) I found 2 x mib easter fluttershy for £1 each and a mib sweetie belle set for £2.00, yet to see any brushables though......although recently im experiencing a 'pony drought!' last year at car boot sales I found g3's EVERYWHERE (hence why I have over 200 to sell at the pony meet), now the only things I tend to find are the large g3.5 baby plush thingies and loads of g3 playsets, when I ask the stall holders do they have any ponies they always say 'someone came first thing and bought them all'........i'm thinking there are more and more pony dealers out there  :(

Nope. Only G3.5s :C

Then again, the thrift stores here are weird. I found a vintage MLP lunchbox and a collection of 27 G1s at one thrift store in the same month, then there were no ponies there ever again.

I can kinda understand finding the mane 6 at thrift stores since the way Hasbro has been packing one of them with almost every playset and accessory. Really if a kid already has a Pinkie and wants the train they are going to end up with two Pinkies. Even if a kid loves Pinkie they might not want two of them so the dupe gets donated.

I saw a talking Pinkie Pie baby and some really weird looking fakies.

That's it so far. I'll be going around and having a look through all the op shops on friday though to find some and hopefully find G3's and maybe G1's. Still trying to obtain the mcdonalds ones :/

I would die if I found :muffin: Pony in an op shop.

I found a cancery Dewdrop dazzle the other day. A while before that I found McPonies and a pretty tinsel haired g3 Toola Roola. I wish I could find g4s like all of you guys haha.

Think of it this way if the ponies hadn't been tossed out they wouldn't had been fated to come to live with somebody who cares about them and you'r herd of new friends.

I am really jealous of that Toola Roola. I never find really many MLP things in thrifts here in Australia. Sigh America is lucky.

I found a McCheerilee on the first day that McDonald's had them. The person must have eaten their happy meal in the parking lot and dropped the toy off that morning! LOL!
I haven't found any brushables, but I haven't been finding many ponies at all lately. I also haven't been faithfully shopping the thrift stores, though I did go to lots of yard sales this summer. But it is nice to hear that they are showing up- not everyone is selling them on ebay!

today while scouring the thrift store toy section for ponies... my blood went chill when I hear a lady say-loudly to someone... "Let me go see if there are any ponies!" and head my way.

anyway she came over.  I had just found a fakie in my hand and gave to her.  she took it and seemed happy with it.   I said I was looking for them too, politely.

ok ok I guess I'm sorta greedy... this person might be online here for all I know!  but now I know I have competition in my town.  The Hunt is on!

I've only found G4 McPonies second-hand, the only exception being Pinkie Pie's Train Car, but I don't want it, I only wanted Pinkie and I didn't want to offend them by asking.

However, at my local Goodwill, I've had tons of luck finding G3's! I've found a semi-TAF tinsel-haired Toola Roola, and I also found a semi-TAF Pinkie Pie too. Today, I found an Easter G3 plush (that needs some cleaning, she has a funny smell), a yellow and orange G3, and a really pretty alicon fakie. Once, I had a whole bag of G3's, and we've never spent over 10 dollars for the lots. It's better than winning them on ebay, and cleaning them up gives me something to do while I wait to get a job and go to college :)

I still find G1s out here. Not even a McDs g4 to be had at thrfit! I think I'm in an eternal time warp where it's still 1992 every day.

Gabumon, you should have asked them! Of course I can't really talk- I was at a yard sale this summer, walking up the driveway and a lady was walking out with a whole box of ponies. I was so shocked I didn't even say anything, just panicked and ran in to see if there were more. THinking back, talking to her would have been a really good idea, to see if she was a collector, to volunteer my services to see if there were any rare ones that she shouldn't be letting her toddler chew on... but no. I panicked. That's so unlike me- usually I'll strike up a conversation with anyone! Goes to show what ponies can do to a person.

And Cherry Sunset, this is off-topic, but I was at Fleet Farm and saw ponies very similar to the ones in your signature. They were right next to the real ponies- might be worth taking a look!
