Title: It has finally happened! G4 Halloween costumes!
Post by: Dragonflitter on October 15, 2012, 11:46:09 AM
Okay firstly, sorry if this has been posted before. I did a check and didn't see any threads about this, but I could have missed it.

Near my town there's a store, Spirit Halloween, that only appears a couple of months a year, right before Halloween. For the past two years I've had a blast walking through their warehouse and looking at all the decorations and costumes! In the kids section I always keep an eye out for pony costumes, but always came away disappointed. (Seriously, why does Monster High get like a million costumes and there were even Littlest Pet Shop costumes! get on the ball, Hasbro.)

...Until this weekend, my disappointment ended! My first spotting of a G4 costume, Rainbow Dash! Link:

http://www.spirithalloween.com/product/di-rainbow-dash-tv-4-6t1/?w=my%20little%20pony&UTM_campaign=Search:SC:my%20little%20pony

...okay, I didn't say it was a good costume. :P But it is a costume nonetheless!

And it looks like they also have on their website a Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle in slightly different style (character is printed on the dress rather than on a headband you wear, and you get pony ears!)

http://www.spirithalloween.com/product/di-twilight-sparkle-child-md/?w=my%20little%20pony&UTM_campaign=Search:SC:my%20little%20pony

http://www.spirithalloween.com/product/di-pinkie-pie-child-md/?w=my%20little%20pony&UTM_campaign=Search:SC:my%20little%20pony

Anyway, even though they're not the best, they're comparable to other licensed girls costumes and they do have a cuteness to them. So I just wanted to share my find with the Arena! ^.^

I swear to the great beaver in the sky that rules over Canada if I see boy costumes that actually look like ponies for sale I'm going to make the world's biggest frowny face.

(not to rain on your parade, Dragonflitter. I just saw this post after viewing [censored]no sexist halloween costumes on tumblr that does a boy and girl costume comparison. SO BAD TIMING on my part I'm sorry)

I saw those online a while ago.  There is also this cute Cadance girl costume:
http://www.buycostumes.com/My-Little-Pony-Canterlot-Royal-Wedding-Dress-Child-Costume/802482/ProductDetail.aspx (http://www.buycostumes.com/My-Little-Pony-Canterlot-Royal-Wedding-Dress-Child-Costume/802482/ProductDetail.aspx)
SO ADORABLE!

Unfortunately I have seen skeezy adult costumes of the main 6 (including not-quite cutie marks), plus some generic skanky unicorn costumes... (not linking them all, just a few representative samples).
http://www.yandy.com/Rainbow-Pony-Costume.php (http://www.yandy.com/Rainbow-Pony-Costume.php)
http://www.yandy.com/Sexy-White-Unicorn-Costume-.php (http://www.yandy.com/Sexy-White-Unicorn-Costume-.php) - I think Rarity would be most offended out of all of the ponies.  "How dare they make it so.... cheap!"

I shouldn't be surprised - I mean, MLP is popular and they are skanky costumes of anything that's popular, but...

*Sigh*. Why does everything for grown up ladies have to be skanky?  That Cadence consume is super cute!!!

I won't lie.  If I weighed less, I would TOTALLY wear that "white unicorn" outfit!  That is GORGEOUS!

*eta*
OMG I just saw the Applejack costume as well.  Holy cow that is precious!

It would be nice if they made a pony costume that actually looked like a pony costume that is for sure.

I think I saw the rainbow dash little girls one come out at least last year, but I even have a feeling it may have been the year before, because I remember thinking that it was pretty impressive they'd released the costume so close to the show starting.  I do like the dresses for the little girls ones.  I would actually buy those for my daughter just as a dress.  :P

Cute, but totally impractical for the semi-frozen North that will be SD in a couple of weeks.  Just need a cutie mark on the sweat pants and Mouse Dash is ready for candy.  And, she can wear it to school without the tail/ears.  ;)

Not skanky in the least. I'm just going to add a tail, and there I go!

And the Cadance wedding costume is adorable!

I would too.  Perfect for Halloween in Australia.  :P  I don't think it would be bad here in San Diego either.  I don't really feel calling them trashing is fair.  People can wear what they want.  I just also wish they had stuff for people who wanted to look more like ponies.

That Cadence costume is so sweet! It feels really silly when some of the other costumes have the image of the characters on them, but this one is a lot like the human MLP cosplays people do.

I dunno when it comes to the interestingcostumes sometimes it does make me sigh, but I realize why they sell them. I think typically around here older adults do not dress up as much. Usually it's the kids of course and then older teens or college kids going to parties ect. Those costumes appeal to that age range typically? I know something I would like to wear that is a bit more covering my sister would never wear to the parties she attends.  They don't look terrible probably just need some changes...those hooves though make me giggle. I think someone would do better with some sort of knee high socks/leg warmers and gloves than that.

The kids outfits are pretty cute. Were they up on Toys R Us? I thought i saw them around before.

That Cadence one is adorable! Have you all seen this one at Target and Kmart? They are calling it a costume but it is just an adorable dress with ears.

They really should make ears, horns, tails, and wings for you to wear! There's always custom stuff you can buy from etsy shops and whatnot.

That's a good find!

I hardly ever see an adult woman's costume that isn't all about playing peekaboo with your buttcheeks.

I was in Target earlier today, so I looked at their Halloween stuff because I always look at Halloween stuff. They had a Rainbow Dash costume...but it was G3.5. I was more than slightly displeased.

I find it weird that the official costumes all seem to be costumes of "person wearing a pony shirt" instead of "pony" or "pony as human." That Cadance one is almost there, though. But I still say Hasbro is definitely dropping the ball on this one. Those adult ripoff ones are absolutely ridiculous, and ridiculously expensive at that. Those hooves still crack me up.

I'm personally a HUGE fan of all the homemade cosplays. They put all of these mass-market ones to utter shame. I'm still in love with the Twilight costume I made for Halloween last year   Still debating whether or not I want to make another one for this year.

Is it wrong that I want this to wear as pajama's?

It looks all warm and cozy.  :inlove:

Seriously, I don't know if it's hasbro who are making these costumes or some other company but they need to be more creative.  Also, at least in Rhode Island it gets really cold by halloween time and the kids are stuck wearing heavy jackets along with their halloween costumes.  I can't see any child in this area wearing that dress, but who knows.

The one I saw of Princess Cadence, that someone posted was more closely related to a pony costume than the others.

Don't worry, they are technically pajamas. They are super warm and comfy!  I wear it around the house. It's just a pony kigurumi, really!

That's why I always end up making my own costumes.  Even if it weren't for the not-long-enough-to-cover-your-underwear skirts, it's too darn cold for something like that in Canada!  I honestly wonder if they are just trying to save on fabric, lol.

Yes it would be nice if the costumes look just like ponies, but honestly, that's what cosplay is for. It's common for little girl's Halloween costumes to be dresses. A lot of little girl's like getting dressed up! And kids like to see the character they are portraying, that's why the character often appears on the clothing.

Besides, for some characters it could work. I would totally not be surprised to see Rainbow Dash wearing a T-shirt with herself on it. :P

Those no-licnsed adult costumes are funny. If I had the figure I might wear one, 'skanky' or not. XD But I was specifically looking for licensed, official G4 costumes, so I was super pleased to find some, both in store and online.

I LOVE the Cadance one. Adorable dress AND little pony ears! How awesome is that? That's like the perfect G4 costume! I guess it's a good thing I didn't see that one in real life because I would have been tempted to buy it lol.

@Enolaalone: Oh man, you've given me a good idea for my next thread... >.>

I honestly like the adult ones. But then again, my style is kinda "daring" at times I suppose

I would LOVE the Pinkie Pie one :D If only I had the money hehe :P

All that shiny fabric..yuck.
And those adult costumes...just no. Even if you don't mind the whole "women must wear sexy halloween costumes", the whole thing still looks like a mess. I think one would be better off getting some random dress and buying a wig/horn/wings.

I like the children's Cadance Pony wedding costume! It's nice and sweet :)

I would buy the adult G1 Pony dress if it was on sale after Halloween. just cause it's cute ;-; and I'd prance around the house in it!~

I'm personally a HUGE fan of all the homemade cosplays. They put all of these mass-market ones to utter shame. I'm still in love with the Twilight costume I made for Halloween last year   Still debating whether or not I want to make another one for this year.

Me too! Homemade cosplays have so much originality and creative ideas. Some see Twilight in preppy school outfits --some see something else! being able to pick what you think they'd wear, or create a dress that suits their personality can just be fun!

And even with the mass-market costumes, they charge you $50-60 for the THINEST of thin fabrics, with sloppy stitching/serging, and loose threads everywhere ;(  It fits certain situations/households/budget/desires but often they are cheap/don't hold up in cold weather/super short dresses.

The less fabric, the more they charge  ;)

I love the little girls Rainbow Dash one! Very cute and appropriate. Its disappointing that everything made for us older girls has to be skanky and cheap looking..but then again, thats why I am making my own pony costume. I bought an old wedding gown from Goodwill that I'm going to use for Princess celestia after a few aesthetic tweaks. I still need to custom dye a wig for her to, and make the wings and gold accessories.

You can try ebay for the wig if you don't want to dye one yourself. There's several Chinese wig makers who are cashing in on the lucrative brony market and putting nice, very professional looking character wigs up for sale on ebay. :)

I'm a big fan of skanky halloween costumes anyway, so combined with ponies...  :lookround:  *dodges fakies*

Too bad halloween isn't such a big thing in Germany, and that I don't have 50 dollars to spare  ;)
