Tis a confusing world
-
Hahaha, this is amazing!
I've changed my mind. I MUST have this shirt, for ironic purposes!! XD I'll wear it with a hipster scarf, and glasses, and super-tight jeans...
-
Augh. XD
Who cares. It's just a shirt. If you don't like it, don't buy it! I get that the stereotypical bronies don't like older gens, but I'm sure there is a niche market who the shirt appeals to.
Oh wait it's the internet.
Let's all freak out.
(I also laughed really hard at the "whoever designed this must be a hater" comment. What? )
-
I love how they post the whole quote from the guy that said "whoever designed this must be a hater" or whatever where after he says he was kidding but the news guy (and every other person that had a news story about this) doesn't say the guy was kidding.
Anthony Castro your making us look bad!! how much you wanna bet the person who designed these shirts is a hater lol. JK! I can never get into the old mlp, was missing something until friendship is magic came along :)
They make the guy sound like a hater himself
-
LOL
-
*Snickers* I thought the Y! ad was funny...
Hey, I'd buy the 80's ponies shirts! *Digs for money that doesn't exist*
-

Total mindsync; I was thinking of doing the same thing.
I love some of the brony communities to death but yeesh, it's a shirt. And if it weren't for G1, there wouldn't be a G4! Gotta honor your roots sometimes!
-
I like the shirt just because it has the 80s ponies on it...who cares what it says. I have been trying to find it but my stupid Walmart doesn't have it.
-

im with you there i am a bony and i still love all ponys i want that shirt!!!!!!
-
I have yet to watch a single episode of the new cartoo. I stuck in the 80's. That being said, when I find this shirt I will be buying ne if I can get a big enough size. I have nothing to say one way or antoher about bronies, or the term. I just love it that it has the G1 ponies on it! I have looked at a few of our Wally worlds, and no one has it yet. :( Has anyone found it in upsate NY yet? Or the shirt from Targets? (sorry to highjack this post)
-
I saw that too!!
-
I lol'd. But honestly, the LOTR story is twice as ridiculous and funny.
-
I really want that shirt, I love shirts with G1 ponies on them (I'm wearing one right now!) and this shirt is a little bit ironic/hipster and a lot cute! ^.^
Though they are hugely overpriced on eBay right now...
-
I assumed the shirt was for people who like the older gens and also love bronies? I guess I missed the point lol.
-
Well I know I won't be getting the shirt, not because of the ponies on it. I love the '80s ponies to pieces! But I simply don't like the word Bronies among other things
I assumed the shirt was for people who like the older gens and also love bronies? I guess I missed the point lol.
I have an idea of what it's getting at and apparently some Bronies are missing that point
-
Gosh that man's voice is annoying...and thats all I have to say lol :)

http://screen.yahoo.com/new-walmart-t-shirt-angers-bronies-30836004.html (http://screen.yahoo.com/new-walmart-t-shirt-angers-bronies-30836004.html)
Bronies, the niche adult male fans of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic", are mad at a t-shirt being sold at Walmart. The offending shirt says "I Heart Bronies" on it. However, the characters depicted on the shirt are from the 1980's My Little Pony cartoon, and not the newer show the Bronies are actual fans of. So yeah, the Bronies ain’t happy with Walmart. In our second story, New Zealand is putting Hobbits on their money. Just name Peter Jackson your Emperor already, New Zealand
Is this true?
-
That's extremely nerdy of them to actually complain over that shirt. It's not like welovefine or other outlets don't exist.
-
Is it bad that this makes me even more excited to wear this shirt just to be a troll? >_>
-
Sadly, bronies should take the hint that we have known for years. Hasbro doesn't care. They will throw you a bone here and there, but when it comes down to it. They don't care.
-
Is it bad that this makes me even more excited to wear this shirt just to be a troll? >_>
I felt the same way.... (don't tell)
-
Just caught this now on yahoo... old news yahoo, old news... LOL
-
Well it's new news to me and as for the shirt, I may not like it because I'm not a fan of the 80s but I see no reason to fight over it just because you don't like something. I'm a Brony that is open to letting others like whatever gen of MLP they want.
-

Well stated. :o)
(There's been a thread about this particular shirt on the arena since 10/3... LOL, we're so on top of things compared to yahoo...)
-
Is it bad that this makes me even more excited to wear this shirt just to be a troll? >_>
me too!!!
I want this shirt sooooo bad!!! Its only available at 1000 walmarts currently though :/
-
I love that shirt actually. I wonder if my Walmart has it^^
-
So dumb... I mean like the Bronies are the only ones with valid opinions. MLP has been around since before most of them were born, so they just need to get over themselves. *end rant*
I love G1, G3 and I like FiM (still on the fence on some of the toys) - but as a 30+ mom I'd feel funny wearing a shirt that said 'I love Bronies", it would make me feel like Mrs Robinson. ;D
-
This is all a bit of a storm in a teacup, it's a goof up but to be fair bronies are still a fairly 'new' internet fad despite being around for quite a while so the media hasn't quite worked out the fandom yet.
Can you imagine though if it had been a shirt with Boba Fett on it and said something like 'Live Long and Prosper' XD
-
Is it just me or does it seem kind of petty and childish to be mad at walmart over a shirt? A SHIRT!
Ya know, out of all the things we could choose to be mad at walmart about and it takes a t-shirt to make 'some' people want blood or go off and have a 5 year old tantrum online and at walmart?
I want a pony but not that pony waaawaaabooohoo. This is a fail...wawaboohoo.
The only thing fail about it is the attitude of intolerance. There is a huge amount of intolerance for anything other than G4 images coming from the new fandom. It's fine to not like other generations of MLP but the nasty attitude I see when something like this pops up, it's just really disappointing that people are so small minded and petty.
If people can't tolerant one 100% preshrunk cotton shirt with G1 images and the text Bronies on it then they certainly can't tolerate real life.
Those that are flipping out about this one shirt are really putting more negativity onto the whole MLP fandom. This kind of attitude only lends to further make the community look like a bunch of 5 year olds screaming because they don't get exactly what they want when they want it.
There is nothing wrong with this shirt. In fact it is the embodiment of LOVE and TOLERANCE.
-
guys. can we please not make this a brony-bashing thread? They are allowed to have opinions just like we are. They are just louder with voicing theirs.
-
I was going to post this too. Haha, this was hilarious :)
-
i will express again i want this shirt!!!!!!!
-

Yeah, people really need to sit back, and think that they're fighting over My Little Pony because they didn't use the right ponies. Come on, aren't there bigger things?
-

LOL! Seriously, this is news?
-
I love the '80s-esque font on it. :)
-
It's already been said, but this is your official warning. Keep it civil, no bashing, and be nice! If this strays off topic, or turns to bashing it will be locked. Thanks!
I am not sure what to think of it yet :)
-
who knew ponies would get so politically correct...well they seem to try to go with whatever is current...democrat or republican, next it will be red or blue pony...rolls eyes,so much drama and not enough rainbows in ponyland
-
Can you imagine though if it had been a shirt with Boba Fett on it and said something like 'Live Long and Prosper' XD
Oh man, this would be AWESOME. :o
-
I hope Walmart doesn't decide to stop selling it before everyone who wants one can get one.
-
Can you imagine though if it had been a shirt with Boba Fett on it and said something like 'Live Long and Prosper' XD
Oh man, this would be AWESOME. :o
I would so wear that
-
Now I want a Borg shirt that says, "Ex-term-in-ate!" XD
-
Digimon shirt that says 'gotta catch 'em all!'
-
Transformers shirt that says: Real American Heroes.
-
A Heath Ledger Joker shirt that says, "no soup for you!".
-
and I thought that shirts with 80's ponies that said I love bronies was for us old-school collectors who mainly collect G1's to show that we appreciate the brony's :P
-
WAHOOOOOOO New Zealand currency.......... :lookround: mayby i can trade it...i mean use it for pony buying :P
i love Jaime Pressly, she's so funny
AND i love john Carter , remember folks it was written a hundred years ago not yesterday.
sorry what was the main story about again?
-
Digimon shirt that says 'gotta catch 'em all!'
This is as close as it gets right now:
http://www.redbubble.com/people/strangetalk/works/7512177-pokemo-wait-what?body_color=creme&p=t-shirt&print_location=front&size=medium&style=mens
-
I once saw an image of this shirt that had Batman, Spiderman and in the center was a BIG pic of the main character from Avatar with a goofy grin. Printed across in bold letters - Avengers!
-
Oh oh! A shirt with those blue cat humanoid creatures from avatar on a shirt with the elements:
Earth Fire Water Air.
-
Transformers shirt that says: Real American Heroes.
Yes. But only if it has Firewall and Eject watching TV. INTENSE.
-
I was able to get this shirt tonight at one of my Walmarts. The biggest they had was an Xl, which I bought. They are 7.50$ plus tax. Its a really cute shirt! I cant wait to wear it
-
Whoot Woot!
Mine came in the mail today!
-
would anyone be willing to pick one of these up for me?
-
lol that video was pretty funy xD
-
NOW I WANT ONE JUST TO MAKE THEM MAD LOL.
-
I'm debating putting the troll face on the back of my shirt.... :devious:
-
The thing is, this isn't really like mixing star wars with star trek, It's My Little Pony mixed with a My Little Pony fan word.
-

True, but they all equally confuse and, apparently, anger people. Or make people laugh.

LOL, that's awesome - I love crazy knock offs
-
I can understand them making a mistake and combining G1 characters with the word Brony because of the popularity of 80s nostalgia right now, but then one thing I don't understand is who this shirt is supposed to be for...it's in girl's sizes, is it not? Those of us who lived through the 80s and would presumably want this (mistake or not), are adults!
In general though, the G1 shirts bug me because they always get the colors/symbols wrong and/or it's a pony I don't like! This one's almost cute despite the confusion of generations, if only the ponies were colored accurately! Make some adult women's shirts with G1, and then I'd be happy, but I worry now they're only going to stick with G4 now that they've been informed of their mistake.
Also, the articles and stories I've seen about this seem to by hyping the "anger" reaction...I actually felt better about how fans are really responding to this when I read the comments about it on EqD.
-

Elisto, I remember them coloring ponies wrong back in the 80s too! There were merchandise things I found where they had some of the ponies colored funny or the symbols were wrong. And they often used ponies I was not a big fan of.
So maybe the mis-colored G1 ponies are an homage to the old mis-colored ponies back in the 80s. :D

True I have a G1 storybook where Medley is in it but she's come out as a blue colour rather than green.
-
I don't mind the colors so much as the art itself. It doesn't really feel "G1" to me. It feels like G3. Oh well, at least they tried . . .
-
I do have to agree, I find the "vintage/retro" stuff on juniors stuff odd sometimes, since that would be like me as a teenager buying a shirt that had something from my parents' childhood on it but not something I was ever into (like Benny & Cecil). Like a few years ago when I bought the original Rainbow Brite shirt at Walmart. I wondered how many teens really knew anything about her.
Granted some things that are retro will always be popular (Looney Toons, Mickey Mouse, Flintstones)
I get the girls clothing, because as a mother I'd buy it for my DD because she too young to have a say (lol).
------
I would love to see a G3 shirt in adult sizes :)
-
I guess the best answer is for the people who don't like the shirt to not buy it.
Did anyone watch the second half of the video? I want a pocketful of Benedict Cumberbatch coins!
-
I guess the best answer is for the people who don't like the shirt to not buy it.
And that is the best suggestion I have seen! Dont like it...ignore :) Like it...buy it!

LOL! I'd LOVE to wear that shirt, and if a Brony starts coughing his breath on me, I'll answer "I just like the picture, who cares what a Brony is."

A brony can be a woman - it's just someone who calls themself by that fandom term. I'm a dude who collects me and I'm def not one.
-
The girl I met drawing Twilight Sparkle in chalk at a market called herself a Pegasister.
-
yeah I thought the brony term was a play on the word 'Bro', if I'm gonna call myself anything, it'd be Pegasister like Marigold said. But. I just say I'm a mlp fan? I dunno, being called either is weird to me.
People have enough trouble pronouncing/comprehending my real name, so, I dunno. xD Pegasister is more of a mouthful. We should come up for a term to call all pony fans regardless of gender? Ponites?
-
I really want this shirt! XD I have to check for it next time I can bring myself to walk into Wal Mart.
-
Yes, what do we call someone who likes all the pony generations? Or what about just one of the other generations besides G4? Hmmmm.
When talking to my husband I just call everyone "the pony people",
-
When talking to my husband I just call everyone "the pony people",
I say "Pony Ladies N Gents". People is shorter, therefore better. I must steal it.
-
Lol, steal away.
-
I"ll take mine in an XXL. Especially WalMart sizes. Lol.
I like ponies. If it comes down to it, I identify as a Pegasister. My boyfriends says I could also identify as crazy. XD
If y'all haven't seen it, there is a zombie MLP FiM tshirt for sale on failblog.org's store.
I want. :D
I want all shirts!

I seriously just LMAO'D.
-
Yawn.
You know.
I bet these cheap "retro" G1 vectors are cheaper then FiM and that's why we see them more.
Besides WLF, and besides KIDS shirts, are there many FiM shirts with G4
-
Hey guys, let's make sure to keep this on the topic of the shirt, and not a definition of a brony, k? Thanks!
-
I want a Masquerade shirt. Donnez moi, shirt makers.
EDIT: Ooh. Neat results when you look up 'my little pony g1' on redbubble! (http://www.redbubble.com/explore/my+little+pony+g1)
-
*snickers* Don't worry, we don't like the shirt either, but for differen't easons. DX

Websites like welovefine.com have a plethora of FIM shirts available for purchase, LOTS of other stuff available with G4 artwork on it besides t-shirts as well from that site.
-
If it were just the ponies, I would buy that so fast!!!
In other news, I want to move to New Zealand. So much awesome.

I guess I should of been more specific. O
I think WLF (welovefine) has a good contract with Hasbro to be the main producer of FiM shirts. I think that's why we don't see many other companies making FiM shirts (except for a couple kids shirts).
What other companies have produced a FiM shirt, in a jr or adult size... in a physical store? (The HT ones are WLF shirts). ? I can't think of any off the top of my head. There might be some... But if there are some, there aren't many.
-
My brother in law is a Brony, we got him the shirt from Hot Topic for his 30th birthday. I wonder if he's seen this one, and his opinions :)

We probably dont see them to any extent in national retailers because its not worth the risk - no matter what way we look at it and how big the brony fandom is, stocking shirts with MLP on the front for adult men is still going to be considered a risky proposition for many retail buyers.
WLF's advantage is that they print on request so they dont have to hold stock on lots of shirts and lots of designs hence why they have so many options.
-
I really disagree, I'm pretty sure WLF has a contract. It's a bigger risk to put a G1 Glory on a shirt that says "Ponies Forever" for men. ...For men? I know we have our men in the community here, but it's a safer bet to put a G4 pony on it, to ride along with the G4 brony wave. That shirt specifically got me thinking about it. Besides, the walmart shirt is making a reference to bronies. It's not really that big of a risk if they can call them out in name.
The fact of the matter is, at least in the US, WLF has a contract with Hasbro to make the FiM pony shirts. WLF has it's second line (MightyFine I believe) for retail. So while, the .com might do print on demand , they still have their retail outlet as well. At least, it really feels that way.
-
Oh I am not denying WLF are a licensed Hasbro merchandiser of course - I am just saying they manage to carry so many options because they have the facility to not carry everything in high stock quantity at the same time. You will only get that variety though someone on line retailer, any high street presence stores will not stock the sheer variety as seen on their websites.
The Glory shirt has clearly been an error, I am sure a buyer planned to stock one single pony shirt along with the other retro style t-shirts and picked what they thought would work best or perhaps all that they were offered by their supplier. Yes, they should have carried a FiM shirt but perhaps Walmarts suppliers in that department dont or cant buy a license for mens wear. Perhaps the blame for limitation lies with WLF themselves, its always possible they have an exclusive license for mens wear or even adults wear clothing and thats what is stopping anyone else carrying FiM shirts and therefore if a buyer wants MLP product they have to rely on the vintage vectors
-
(: Still misunderstood.
Of course WLF is a licensed Hasbro retailer. I'm saying that, it is my belief that they have a contract to produce most or all of the FiM T-Shirts. I'm not saying anything about the massive amount that they carry online, I am solely speaking of retail store stock (which is smaller). I'm saying it because there are no other companies that are producing JR-Adult FiM shirts for retail stores. I mean heck, I can't even think of any other online company that is selling /licensed/ FiM shirts, but I really bet that's just because I'm being forgetful. really forgetful.
Can anyone tell me where else there has been a licensed FiM shirt that was not made by WeLoveFine/MightyFine in a JR/Adult size? I can't think of one.
-

http://www.redbubble.com/people/strangetalk/works/7512177-pokemo-wait-what?body_color=creme&p=t-shirt&print_location=front&size=medium&style=mens
LOL That's hilarious. Do want.
-
I doubt WLF got an exclusive contract with Hasbro for FiM t-shirts. That would be a silly thing for Hasbro to do, to limit their T-shirt sales to one company. Plus we've seen companies like Macy's have kid-sized shirts. So would Hasbro tell WLF that they can have an exclusive contract just for adult sizes? That sounds silly and arbitrary. Doesn't make any sense to me.
Most likely, as hathorcat said, no one else is producing FiM t-shirts in adult sizes because it's such a niche market and they don't want to take the risk. They see a company like WLF is already covering the niche with a pretty wide spread, and don't want to bother getting into such a tight market with so little possible return.
-
Does it really make a difference If the FIM shirts are purchased online or in a store?
-
I too think it's unlikely that WLF has an exclusive contract. It should be pointed out that as far as Hasbro licensing is concerned, "My Little Pony" is probably "My Little Pony", regardless of generation.
-

If that is true then Hasbro and I have something in common.
-
@banditpony :( I think we might have been saying similar things but misunderstanding one another :) I didnt notice you mention exclusive contract in your initial post hence where the confusion may have stemmed from.
Truffleshuffle in the UK stock adult size FiM shirts and they do ship to the US but they are mainly a UK retailer and off the top of my head they are the only ones I can think of outside WLF. WLF have carved themselves a lovely niche in the market with a close relationship with the brony community from advertising on their websites, attending Cons, etc - its going to take a brave clothing manufacturer to go up against them right now and try and get their foot in the door. So perhaps less exclusive contract and more it being a market that no other on line retailer feels there is space for them in and one no high street retailer is willing to take the risk on.
