Title: No green ponies???
Post by: Salli on October 08, 2012, 01:24:52 PM
I just organized my g4s on a shelf and while I don't have all of them I realized that there are no green ponies! This is why they NEED to make a brushable Tealove. Also more orange ponies please.

A shocking oversight! What colors do you want to see?

Lyra Heartstrings is green, more of a seafoam green but she is green. :)  I still want a Tea Love too because I love tea!

I feel like she is more aqua, but she is closer to green. I mean GREEN like g1 Minty, Mimic, Tootsie. I am amazed at how many green g1 Argie ponies there are!

I want to make a green Sour Applejack and a Key Lime pony just to make them have more of a presence XD

Do you guys think Sapphire Shores is green? Her blind bag looks VERY green, but her character on the show looks yellow.

That's true, and even if we do have Lyra, she alone is not enough. Green is my favorite color. I think they should make Golden Delicious into playful pony, her color combo is great.

I love green ponies! Though Lyra's shade of green isn't really my thing. I would love to see more ponies in shades like G2 Miss Painter or G1 Mimic, however. I would also like to see more blue G4s, like Star Swirl :)

I know pink and purple are the popular colors, but yeah, we totally need more green and blue ponies! Orange and yellow would be nice too. I mean, that's why I love G1 and G3 the best...there was so much variety! I want an entire rainbow of ponies!

Lyra to me is more blue than green.  She is seafoam colored, but if I had to place her in either green-blue or blue-green I would choose green-blue, meaning she is slightly more blue than green.  But really you could classify her as either.

I read somewhere that blue is one of those colors that some people do not always detect in certain shades.  I don't know if that is true, but there are a lot of things that I would call blue that some people see as green.  To me, Minty is green.  Lyra is blue.  And neither one is even close to looking like the other.

I think Lyra is one of those colors that is exactly between blue and green on the spectrum and so when people are forced to categorize it, about half will call it one and half will call it the other.

I'm with you guys, when I see Lyra I defiantly see blue-green. I wouldn't call her green, nor would I call her blue.
If you snag her HEX color (#93FFDB) and pop it into one of those color sliders it's almost directly between blue and green. So let's say both sides are right and she's Cyan! lol

Lyra aside I agree! more green, we also need oranges and a few more yellows. Maybe a nice red-ish like G3 applejack! or just less pink.
And I personally want to see some dark colors like Thunderlane's smokey grey, or some natural horse colors like cream and brown.

I did a group pic of the ponies by body color and yes ,very few bluish/greenish ones, only 3 oranges, and 4 yellows , and plenty of whites, pinks and purples :)

i really really REALLY want to see, Tea Love, lucky dream and sweet cream scoops (to me she green like tootsie and taf buttons but other peeps think she is yellow :P)

i dont have Golden Delicious yet but she would look awesome as a brushable too, also Sapphire Shores and Merry May and Peachy Sweet

also other colours i would like to see are a softer yellow, creams, peach and softer blue, im not a fan of the darker dull blues of RDash and Trixie

I wouldn't mind some more truly green ponies. I'm happy the G4 line has given us a plethora of blue ones.   But yes, green would be very nice. And even though orange is not my favorite color by any stretch, it would make a nice touch to have some more orange ponies on the shelf.

Green ponies have been underappreciated evens since the 80s it seems. I hope we get some green ponies soon.

Colour is so subjective in this in between shades. Personally I would say Heartstrings is green but I understand where people are getting blue from too.

Yes, a few more colours would be nice...green or orange :)

I can see that.  I categorize her as blue, but there is a lot of green in her blue.  It must be right in the middle!

I would like more orange ponies.  I love orange.  And brown would be nice too.  I don't love green ponies unless they are certain shades of green.  I'd love to see a pale spring green or lunamoth green. But I am tired of Minty green.  Maybe it is because the only green pony that comes to mind is Minty.  I know there are some others, but she is the one that stands out to me.

I must be blind cause I don't see any blue in Lyra at all  But I agree, seeing a few more green ponies of different shades would be lovely, same with blue. I'd also love a black pony that isn't Nightmare Moon or gray, but those don't seem too popular for ponies.

I would absolutely love more green ponies! (I may love green just a little :P )
I've been mainly collecting ponies that aren't pink/purple lately, unless they're some special sort of pony. I think Tea Love would make a great brushable, and some of the other green blind bags.

I desperately want Minty, but I'm just not that big a fan of lime green ponies (except for Granny Smith, I would buy a brushable of her immediately!)  Lyra reminds me of Medley's green - sort of an aqua green rather than Mimic green.  But isn't Mimic HTF because she wasn't popular back in the day?

I would love a straight up green pony- like Minty colored-

I read that at least for Strawberry SHortcake, they ditched green colors (for hair and dresses) because market studies show that little girls like the color green least of all (and pink best).  I expect the same studies influence MLP marketing.

I saw this article that talks about how women are "biologically programmed" to like pink:
http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1654371,00.html (http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1654371,00.html)
And this famous blogger granny talks about how the pink/blue thing is ridiculous.

Even if women are more drawn to pink- in a sea of pink toys- don't you think that little and big girls alike will be drawn to a bright green toy?  Just look at how fast the green colored monster high dolls are flying off the shelf...

My favorite color as a little girl was deep emerald green.  I was obsessed with green!!! I didn't like pink at all.  Green green green!!!  I think they market pink as a pretty girl/princess color and influence little girls to agree with them that pink is their favorite because they want to be girly/princesses/ballerinas/pretty. If left to their own, I wonder what colors kids would like best.  Blue used to be a girl's color and pink a boy's.  Maybe when that was the case every boy loved pink and every girl loved blue.

Even minty is not all that "green" to me because she's so light. They need to make more ponies in the color of some of the grene nirvanas - a nice rich dark true green!

interesting
my favorite colour has been pink since i was a little girl but i have always loved and wanted G1 minty and seashell, purple with green hair, since i was a kid too.
i never had any pink pony's as a child come to think to it, there were white with purple hair, purple with blue hair, salty, bouncy, moonstone. but i loved pink but wasnt after any, funny huh.

i think alot of people assume little girls want pink all the time, softer colours more like it, soft pale green not dark dull green, they will not sell.
you see rainbow dash is always left on the shelf everywhere i go cos her colours are non appealing to the little ones, they are quite hash.

Interesting.  At the Toys R Us and Walmarts near me, the pink ones are the only ones that are left.  Talking Pinkie Pies.  Pink Celestia.  Pinkie Pie.  Fluttershy.  All left over.
Hardly an Applejack or Rainbow Dash anywhere.  Even the FS Lunas are gone, just FS Pinklestias left. And when the toys were stocked, there was an equal number of Lunas and Celestias - but the Lunas have flown off the shelves leaving her pink sister behind.

Don't get me wrong, some gals LOVE their pink.  One of the bridesmaids at my wedding was a girly girl, pink everything, loved ballet, wore flowers and bows in her hair (in college).  But my favorite ponies as a child were Moonstone and Seashell.  I had some Barbies, but my favorites were my Cinderella, Jasmine, and Belle dolls.  I love the rainbow-ness of ponies - there is something for everyone's tastes!  A few male friends love Fluttershy.  My BFF (female) loves Nightmare Moon and Luna.  I love Twilight Sparkle.  A tomboyish friend loves Applejack.  My husband has a handmade Rainbow Dash plush and a McD's Dashie in his car.

Well first of all, that paper appears to have shown that women prefer red-blue (i.e. purple) and men prefer green-blue (i.e. teal ).  ;) But the paper can't really disentangle the social from biological effects either.

ehem  :nerdy:

There have been numerous studies showing no sex differences in colour preference of infants - most show that both boy and girl babies prefer primary colours, like blue or red, to colours like green, pink etc.

A paper published last year (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21848751) showed that infants under a year old showed no innate sex-based pink/blue preference, but that the tendency of boys to prefer blue and girls to prefer pink appears around 2/3 years (at the same time that children start to become aware of 'gender', suggesting the preference is social rather than biological).

Another paper suggests that girls' preference for pink is actually a knock-on effect of the fact that most of the toys that girls like are made pink by the producers (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20232129).  An innate sex difference in preference for toy type has been shown (infant girls do tend to prefer babies etc and boys prefer objects/ vehicles).

So by making all the dolls etc pink and the trucks etc not-pink, the toy industry helps create the sex-biased pink/blue preferences we start to see as children get older! So maybe by slowly increasing the number of not-pink girl's toys, we could actually reverse the whole trend!  ;)

On that note, we want more NOT PINK ponies!!!  :newpony:

ps: Sorry for the long post. I'm a scientist so I get a bit overexcited about fact finding.

This talk about colors is kind of an amusing thing to me since I work with colors at my job. :)  We defiantly would consider Lyra to be green at my work... (In fact, we have a color very similar to her color that has the word "mint" in it).

But do remember, green is made up of blue and yellow. ... Green can either be more blue , or more green. Lyra is the greenest brushable we have.

Oh, and as a girl, I did not like the typical green color, nor blue. But I loved what I called "teal". O_o; lolz.

Ling speculates that the color preference and women's ability to better discriminate red from green could have evolved due to sex-specific divisions of labor: while men hunted, women gatherered, and they had to be able to spot ripe berries and fruits.

Honestly, this kind of argument has always struck me as rather silly.  "Women like pink, because they once gathered berries."  Well, what color is raw meat?  Pink!

In addition, many berries are white, black, blue . . . That researcher was painting her conclusions with too broad of strokes, IMO.

Plus if you are gathering your not just gathering berries.  Your looking for nuts, fruits, leafy edibles, mushrooms, and roots.  Most things are browns, whites, and greens.  Red is sometimes a sign that something is poisonous too.

I have my ponies organized in a rainbow/color fading scheme.  My boyfriend and his friend keep insisting lyra isn't green,   but a green/blue/light-aqua.  I call her "sea foam".
I too, wish there were more green ponies.  And orange, but at least I have honeybuzz!

I don't own Lyra but I thought she'd be more Snowcatcher's colour, now I can see how green she is, thanks for the comparison pic :D

A while ago (a few centuries or something) pink used to be a boy's colour, and blue was for girls, so it's interesting to see how the attribution of colours to each gender has changed. I know when I was little I loved purple, then green, then purple and green :P

As a child, I loved the color yellow and rainbows. I have no idea why I didn't have any Rainbow Ponies as a kid because I think Sunlight and Sky Dancer would have been right up my alley.

For the G4s, I probably would have liked Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Rainbow Flash, Celestia and maybe Ploomette. I liked pink but I wasn't obsessed with it the way Hasbro figures most little girls are. I wasn't as all about green and blue as I am today but I did love my Lime Chiffon and Blueberry Muffin dolls.

Hehe. My favourite colours are purple and teal, just look at my avatar.  ^.^

I wouldn't put it as never trust studies, just always be sceptical and gather as much other information as you can. If 50 studies all say there is no sex based difference in infant colour preference, then you can pretty much trust that as fact.  ;)

Also, I'd love a TAF buttons coloured pony - *looks on list of fim characters* - Peachy Sweet looks nice.

Blue is my favorite color, but overall my color choices are more about hue, I think.  I like DEEP purple, DEEP blue, DARK pink more than pastels of those same colors.   I love both emerald green and ice-green, though.

IMO Lyra is somewhere between green and cyan.  So pretty!

I actually love the color pink- but that doesn't mean I want (or have ever wanted) EVERYTHING to be pink-
Too much of anything is annoying.

Putting aside ridiculous market research-  I would think based on the popularity of Monster High and Bratz among the kids that some nice ponies with BLACK Green and Red would actually be wicked popular.  Actually, come to think of it-  Luna and Zecora are not pastel colored and the stores have had trouble just keeping them in stock...

But I think it depends on the nature of the line - black and deep greens and dark purples are popular in MH because the line is appealing to the current "twilight-vampire" thing which is going on - the line is dark in nature and in content with werewolves and monsters and vampires. MLP is different its supposed to be innocent and bright therefore light shades, particularly pinks and paler purples and whites, are where the focus is.

I love pink and personally while I can see the wish for other colours - variety is what made G1 great - I can live with and love the pink...

*cough* wasn't this conversation about green ponies lol! Apologies OP!
