Hey,
After a good cry (please no comments that it is just a piece of plastic, I know that but I am stressed to my breaking point, thanks) I wanted to get the word out. I doubt that he will ever surface but I just had Spanish Tex stolen from my mailbox. Now I asked the seller for tracking and insurance, but do I see it on the empty box or among the tissue litter on the ground where I found it in the neighbor's yard? No. I had been going to the mailbox everyday looking for the orange slip to pick it up at the post as I knew I would not be home to sign for it. Never got one. I just happened to see a little cardboard box, the one that would fit a pony laying in the wet grass. I pick it up and my name is on it and the package is from DHL. I have never had anyone steal mail in my neighborhood and my postman is awesome. I will never find him, I looked all over the bushes and drove around. I have a feeling some punk kids just did it for fun maybe he will be tossed in the trash. I can't believe it. I mean I guess I will open a claim because she did not send it the way I asked for. But the thought of him being discarded makes me sick. I hate people. It makes me want to sell my collection because you can't have anything... I know this is more like a topic for TS but I thought maybe some of you would cry with me at this loss and also know that if by some chance the person whole stole from me finds out he is valuable and tries to sell him we can be on the look out. I will be keeping the box and filing a police report. I just am reeling from disbelief and heartbreak. Thanks for listening and please let me know any suggestions you may have.

That's horrid!
I'd keep an eye out at yard sales/consignment shops/flea markets/Goodwill for him after you report him stolen. Have you contacted your post office about this?

I haven't had a chance yet, I just found it and they are already closed. I will never find him, it would be impossible. I can't believe this.

I am in Springfield, between Dayton and Columbus... I know there are a lot of collectors around and some that even live here too, I doubt that he will be found if a kid has it he won't show up on ebay. It was not money or a credit card or checks but a toy, why would you do that? Wouldn't you presume it would be a child's toy? Why would you open it and see it and still take it anyways?

When you do file a police report (and I think you should, even if just to strengthen your paypal case), be prepared to have some proof that he is monetarily valuable, because otherwise I don't think they will understand how he is different from a toy pony you can buy at Wal-Mart or something. Maybe e-bay auctions that have ended, something like that, so that they will be more inclined to take you seriously (really I don't hate cops, really, I've just been really disappointed in them in the past year, just sayin').
Also, please report this seller to the bad trader list, that is NOT COOL for him to not be shipped the way you asked!!

When talking to the police call it a rare vintage collectable worth $$$ amount so they take you seriously. Also stealing and opening other people's mail is a serious offense. Hope the seller works with you to get your money back at least.

Actually, mail tampering is a federal offense! Brilliant! I wonder if you can get the postal inspector involved. One of my friends worked at the post office when there was an embezzlement case. Postal inspectors do not mess around! They might be able to help you a lot more than local police.

I'm so, so sorry!! :hug: I do agree that you need to file a police report, contact the post office about mail theft, file a paypal claim, and report the seller for not shipping him properly. Best of luck in all of that. What a terrible thing to happen to you! :hug: :hug:

Oh man, this sucks AJG. Be sure to ask neighbors if they saw something, kids walking home from school even maybe would have seen something. I am sooooo sorry!!! Big time pony hugs!

OH NO!!!!!!! So sorry, sweetie!!! I'll definitely keep an eye out in case he pops up on Ebay.
Good advice from everyone. And I actually think going around to your neighbors is a good idea too and could be worthwhile. Maybe a responsible parent will spot Tex in their punk teen's room. If you do go around to your neighbors, bring a color Pic of Tex to show, and of course explain that he's a rare vintage collectible that you paid a lot for, and you're heartbroken and angry that he was stolen.
Might be a good idea to get a locked box for deliveries too. I've been thinking about doing that.

Maybe you could put some posters up? If it was kids, just ask for them to put him outside your door or something as he has a lot of sentimental value. I would only mention the monetary value to the police.

This. Stealing mail is a crime, especially despicable if it is a high dollar value item. Sometimes people gauge by the postage how much an item is worth. So if they see a package that cost a lot to ship or has insurance they steal it because they figure it is worth some serious money. Definitely report it to the police but don't expect them to do anything. A postal inspector would be more effective.

So sorry to hear that,I do hope it is found and I agree watch ebay and make sure to check local antique stores and such
I do know the mail is getting awful because I had stuff from Zumba sent to me with some jingle bracelets in my package ,they use ground fed ex if I remember right,needless to say my bracelets were stolen and the package was taped and then delivered to door given to my kids who would not steal from me because I share my belongings...they knew the package was from zumba and that the package had those braclets in it because they could hear the noise the bells make...they probably stole them for themself to wear,atleast zumba sent me more but still I pay for the shipping so dont steal from me before you give me my package!!
With economy tanking watch those packages,perhaps get stuff signed for is the best method sorry your seller didnt ship how you wanted

My neighbor installed cams around his place , he monitors his mail box and the driveway areas,I installed a locked mail box and fenced my property ,my post lady knows to leave my packages inside the privacy fence so there is no visual for anyone passing by
but ups sometimes leaves things outside the fence :( so far nothing has happened so far

Don't just go to local thrift and antique stores: go there and give them a picture of Tex, and your number, and let them know to contact you if they ever receive it (thrift store) or to take down the name and number of who sold it (antique stores, pawn, etc) and tell them whatever you need to tell them to prove it is urgent. Keep an eye on eBay and Craigslist, as others have said.
I stress this because my gut says it wasn't just teen vandalism/pranking. I don't know, of course. But I imagine you've purchased ponies before? Why would someone steal from you, of all times, the day you received such an expensive pony?
This is quite an odd crime. Does anyone around the area even know you collect them? Are there even any punks kids around who even know to prank the Pony Lady? Anyone who knows your mailing schedule to know you were getting a package? Have there been a rash of mail thieves in the neighborhood lately?
If it is a thief who is knowledgeable about MLP, at least we can take comfort that Tex won't be thrown away. I'm sorry this happened. It's offensive to humanity, not just to pony collectors.

:dropjaw: :sad: That is horrible....Ah and Spanish TEX!....I am so so sorry....THis sounds way out there but maybe if you talk to someone that has ins with the forensics department..you could lift fingerprints from the ripped box...I would go all out..sometimes they will do stuff like that pro bono (free)....seeing as you have the box...lol..... you never know.....I hope you find him....... :yikes:

Thanks all for the well wishes, this has been devistating for me. I put up posters all around the neighbowhood. There is goverment housing about a mile away and so it could be there, I put them up around there and everywhere in between yesterday. Some of the phone numbers have been pulled off. I am hoping that it is just a matter of time for the person to realize he is missed and do the right thing. I am probably a dreamer. I got the post inspector number and I printed everything out for the police, I just need to figure out where to go to make the report. Thanks again all, just popping on here to read your kind words has helped me. I have been on the verge of crying the last several days and you all have helped me so much. I will keep you updated.

That really stinks. :( I imagine you have some recourse in all of this. I would think that in addition to filing a police report, you can also contact paypal and the shipper. If some young prankster took your package I doubt that he/she would have any idea how much the pony is worth. Best of luck with this situation....

Have you tried checking with neighbors to see if they found one or saw anything? or and had anything taken? That is just horrible, I would be absolutely crushed and devastated, I am so sorry :( Why are people suck jerks! That is a federal offense tampering with someone's mail and mail box.

I live about 20 minutes away from Springfield. I'll keep my eye open for your pony (if I hadn't know this and I had seen him at Goodwill or something, I would have kept him for myself). If I find him, I'll let you know ASAP. I'm not familiar with this pony, what does he look like?
