Title: There hasn't been any leaked pony in a while ...
Post by: Malancaiwen on September 28, 2012, 12:48:55 AM
So I noticed we haven't seen pics of upcomming ponies for a while ... and except for a few trial ponies with tinsel and the crystal line, there's nothing other than the regular releases on taobao.

So it made me wonder: Did Hasbro got tired of all the leaked ponies and made stronger controls on pony espacing the factory? Is there nothing more than the crystal line comming up?

I can feel something is happenning (or maaybe I'm just hoping?), sometyhing that we'll love and they're just hidding it from us!

I'm torn between "I NEED to know" and "Let's keep the surprise"

How about you?

I wanna see new characters and new poses, especially new Fashion Styles, as the others are just too tiny. I want more boys so badly!

There are so many G4s I'm behind on as they weren't released over here, and I can't afford shipping from the States, so I am praying that they release everything over here before they even think of showing us anything new.

I'd rather not know about anything until it's officially announced and released... There's already so many things I've seen on Taobao that I really hope will be released but I wish I didn't know they even existed just in case they aren't! :P

I don't mind being surprised with something.  However, as someone else said, it makes me nervous that it means there simply aren't any new ponies planned.

I'm not sure. On the other hand it bothers me to know for example about Sweetie Blue when it seems she's never coming out, but I think it bothers me just as much when I have to worry if they are going to make any new ponies at all.

I used to like to know. Then I saw Minty.....and she never came about. I'm pretty torn. I like being able to add ponies to my wishlist to keep up on G4's, but there is something to mystery too. Plus......I don't like seeing ponies I can't get my hands on. lol

I think we are getting spoiled. :P I mean, how long have we known about the action figure ponies and they haven't even come out yet. We have known about them for so long by the time they come out they seem like old news sometimes. Unless they make Christmas ponies, I don't expect anything new for this year. Christmas is the big toy season so they probably already have all the ponies made for this year. I expect we will see new stuff next year.

I am kinda fantasizing that they are making boy pony brushables, but are like the mafia in keeping it quiet and making sure there are no leaks, and that is why we haven't seen any yet. ;)

I like to know, gives something to look forward to and get hype over.

I think they're just releasing crystal stuff now. Older ponies are still being put up on Taobao straight from the factory so it doesn't seem like there's tighter regulation/control...

Looks like there aren't many of us, but I agree! I don't mind seeing info about future releases if it comes from hasbro and we know the release is imminenet, but I prefer being surprised by new ponise than seeing leaks from taobao.

I wanna see new ponies! I have all the burshables but one or two that arent even in the US and some blind bags but yea.

Also I am ok with this because they are not my only collection and I do need other things from other sets so pony break is ok for now.

I hope Hasbro is getting better control over protection of their intellectual property!  Plus being surprised when you go to look on the shelves is so much nicer than checking and re-checking and re-checking for something you want and don't know if it's coming.

I feel like there is still a steady stream of leaked new items. There still are quite a few items on there that aren't in stores yet. So many blind bags/mini figures, more Crystal Empire stuff, signs of a Walmart exclusive line called Pony Power coming up...

It can be a little frustrating seeing things on there and not knowing if it will be released or when but I'd be lying if I said I don't enjoy seeing previews. :devious:

I like to know what's coming out and where so I don't miss any brushables. it would suck to miss something because I found out it existed too late or something. Though there are usually "look what i found at -inserttstorehere-!" threads, but still...

I have to say I like the leaks on sites like Entertainment Earth and BBTS better than Taobao. At least they give us some idea of when things will be released. It just sucks when it comes to store exclusives since they don't carry them but at least what is seen on the other sites will get a release.

I remember how sad I was when G3s started to dwindle and then they did the Bore 7. It got me out of collecting for years. Well, I don't want a hiatus again. I want years and years worth of MLP collecting to be ahead.

MLP cannot seem to be killed off. I mean, in the last several years we've had G1, G2, G3, G3.5, and now G4s. I bet there will be a G5 someday. :)

I really enjoy seeing prototypes or leaked pony toys. It helps to know what's coming so I can plan on how to spend my money accordingly.

would a scientist in the audience do some research and see how many months on average have been between recent "leaks" and "release"? in G4.   Do you think it's  as short as 6 months between leak and official release?
Title: Re: There hasn't been any leaked pony in a while ...
Post by: Iceglider on September 28, 2012, 05:34:05 PM
The factories are all probably busy making toys for Christmas non-stop right now, not working on new prototypes. I'm not worried about the line ending anytime soon. The show is so popular. MLP has not been this popular since the 80's. It would be really dumb to stop making the toys. Maybe in a couple of years if FIM finishes or loses some of its fan base... Now coming out with things we collectors really like might be another story, though they are really improving in that area too. They gave us a Nightmare Moon pony! No one would have guessed that last year. I'm looking forward to seeing new ponies next year. The next pony I want to see is a brushable Big Mac.

I like to know and I like a surprise :P Lol!

There is no certainly on how long it is from seeing something on Taobao and it hitting shelves - if you do an average its 4 and a half months, but we have also had things show up and never hit shelves as well as show up and then be in stores within a month or so. I dont think there is any certainty to it.

There are multiple factories which are contracted to produce goods for Hasbro - multiple factories may have different patterns to unused/damaged product - hence why sometimes we see things on Taobao and other times we dont know anything about items until they hit shelves [the FS Cadance and Shining Armour turned up in stores before they showed up on Taobao after all].

As to why we havent seen much in the way of "new ponies and new characters" personally I think thats because Hasbro are concentrating on blind bags for new characters and more expensive box sets for the brushables with multiple of the same characters being constantly release.

The next wave looks to be the tinsel hair, block eyed mane 6 again in CE wrapping. Hopefully after that we will have another wave featuring at least a couple of new characters - one of which is probably Ploomette.

i think  Hathorcats right.. i think  all the new charecers are being released  as  BB figures.. and htey  are proably just goign to keep repackaging the mane  6. as reugalr brushables

I'm looking forward to the white Celestia brushable, Luna, and Ploomette, but yeah I seriously hope they make more characters! I'm happy they made a couple accessory sets too. If not this year, then possibly next Spring we'll see more brushables?

I also like to know so I know how much money to set aside for new releases, but I think the real issue is that Hasbro's PR team sucks because they're out of touch with their customers.

Every new bit of info you find is from some third party. I think shutting us out is a really crappy arrogant way to keep us interested in the line, it's like they won't admit to selling something unless there's evidence on store shelves.

Mattel's design teams go to certain forums and tell you in your post whether what you want is coming out this year or next, or whether it's unreasonable due to cost, or why they decided to do a running change or why they won't make a certain figure. It's not like they're going to grant your wish, but at least you get the feeling like you've been listened to by the right people.

I for one would really like to know why they got rid of the bangs in favor of mullets on the brushables, but there's no one to ask! The designers have to be out there, they're interested enough to make these toys but they don't want to express or discuss any of their decisions?

Go figure, Hasbro. I can never forget the time their laywers sent thugs to a nerf enthusiast blogger's home because he bought a nerf stuff on ebay and taobao before it's retail release; http://urbantaggers.blogspot.com/2012/04/free-stuff-from-hasbro-story-of-uts.html

I'm not sure.

One part of me loves getting sneakpeaks of what's to come, but the other side of me love the element of surprise :P If I stumble across pre-released info then that's awesome. If not I'm not gonna look it up ;)

Mattel did get down on anyone who posted the Scaris stuff. It seems most toy companies don't like to reveal stuff too soon.

I also agree with this. I like the anticipation.  Although now I know better than to buy prototypes of things that will be released.  Like I am sure the spa ponies will come out and I will not have to spend more than retail.

Do you mean the main 6 in bubble release rather than packets - tinsel in hair, CE packaging and a blocky eye? The Fluttershy version of this was posted on here several weeks ago - this is the Wave 9 which was referred to earlier :)

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, it's nice getting a sneak peek and having something to look forward to....but, likewise, sometimes it takes SO long for the ponies to actually get here from when we first see them that it's like waiting on pins and needles. Especially when some places get them waaaay sooner than others, and then it becomes even easier to get all paranoid that your area won't even get them at all! Also, I remember I wasn't even in the loop at all when Diamond Rose and Bumblesweet were released and I was so unbelievably shocked and excited when I found them in store and all I have planned on getting was a Twilight Sparkle (who I've actually yet to pick up). It was this totally epic moment of surprise and awesomeness, and I would really love to just be shopping unaware and have this gorgeous new pony unexpectedly pop up! So, I guess for now, I'm okay with no sneak peeks. While I'd still like to see them, maybe it'd be better if they were released a little bit closer to when the actually ponies will be in stores.
